With the draft starting tomorrow and a handful of Hokies having potential to hear their name called I thought I'd ask the question: Do you root for Virginia Tech players to get drafted to your favorite NFL team?
Being a Browns fan (yes, I know, I'm actually a fan of the Cleveland Browns), I was stoked to see Tyrod get picked up in the off season and I'm hoping Cleveland tries to grab either Facyson, Stroman, or Edmunds in a later round to help out the secondary depth. However, I have friends who simply want the best possible players going to their team and quite frankly don't care which school they hail from.

I follow Hokies in the NFL, not teams. I don't care where they go as long as they succeed and get that $$$.
I'm with you on everything except for the not caring where they go. I don't care where they go except for Buffalo. I think they did Tyrod wrong and I don't feel like any hokie should have to deal with that organization.
How can you say they did him wrong? They gave him no offensive line. They traded away/gave away their best WR after he took a pay cut to keep them there. They put in his back up that quickly threw 5 picks. In a half. And T-mobile almost saved that game. He lead them to the playoffs for the first time in 5ever despite all of that. /s
Fuck the bills and fuck bills mafia.
Because I do not look through the same goggles that they do, you know the one where jumping through a flaming table is a great time.

Jumping through flaming tables is legitimately a great time
QUICK! Put him out with beer!
bills organization can suck it but i've got no other option than to respect the hell out of their insane fanbase.
I like that I see them more when they play for my team (cough...redskins) but I also hate to see them go (cough, cough, K.Fuller).
I think there's a valid point to make, especially with the regional bs that NFL tv affiliates have, to say that having more NFL alums in a high volume recruiting region can make a difference.
I think high profile teams will get their exposure no matter what.
Same. I want to see Hokie players playing for the skins. But then fuckery like the Kendall Fuller trade happens and it breaks my heart. So I have mixed feeling about it.
Oh heck yeah! Get us some Big Tim Settle, and I'll be dancing like this...
Hokies getting drafted should result in better recruiting. So load them up. I don't have the bandwidth to watch the NFL anymore so I wish them the best of luck.
The 'Skins part of me would love to draft some Hokies, but the Hokies side of me doesn't want anymore Tech alum playing for Dan Snyder.
Normally, I would never wish the Browns on anyone. However, after seeing how Buffalo's front office/fans treated Tyrod, I just wanted him to go somewhere people appreciate his talent/effort. Clevelanders without a doubt love their athletes.
Yeah, they'll love him until tomorrow when the browns draft a QB first or fourth, then they'll pick apart every mistake and scream for the rookie. Hopefully, Tyrod can get out of Cleveland quickly and land with a team that's also a good organization. I give him six games as a starter for the Browns, with a 1-5 record (not his fault), before they pull him and hand the keys to the rookie.
your're probably right, which to me is insane; the browns have so many problems that drafting a QB in the top 5 isnt really going to help. fix your other holes with the first and second round picks, draft a QB 3rd-4th round to groom for next year or two... 45% of super bowl winning QBs were drafted second round or later
more teams need to #trusttheprocess
I think you are way off on this. Browns fans are not as delusional as you think. Tyrod will get a fair shot and the Browns have seen enough rookies fall on their face to start calling for the kid in the wings. There will always be the few folks in every fan base that cannot be appeased unless the team is winning every game by 30, but I think two decades of abysmal results have changed the perspective of the fanbase. Tyrod will get the whole season to show he can be the guy in Cleveland.
I am still hoping that the Browns due to the smart thing and take Barkley #1 and then trade #4 to Buffalo for their 2 first round picks and a third. Fix the other problems and take a QB in later rounds. Tyrod can win if they get him some help on the Oline and some weapons on offense. They have an okay defense now.
This is a deep "okay" QB class but I don't love Allen, Rosen, Mayfield, or Darnold. They all have some pretty serious flaws.
As a Browns fan I would be super pissed if they take Barkley #1. My best case scenario is Browns take thier QB at #1 and that Barkley is available at #4 and some other team is dumb enough to trade up for him in a deep RB draft. RB is the most overrated position in the current NFL. Browns also are already looking pretty good at DE. Chubb is going to be a good player, but Cleveland has too many holes to be spending top 5 picks on depth. Trade the 4th pick to Buffalo for their two first and a second round pick and grab some secondary help at 12 and maybe an interior lineman at the 22 (I think) spot. Grab the best RB on the board with the 33rd and then maybe a safety with Buffalo's other second round pick. That upgrades a lot more positions of need rather than loading up on two positions where they are sound already (RB and DE).
You and I agree about pick #4 just differ on #1. I think Barkley is that good a player and don't see a great QB available in the draft.
Need some Hokies in Duuuvvvvaaaaallllll
Well maybe London now.
They ain't moving. Khan is just buying a new (lucrative) toy.
Not anytime soon no, but in the next 50 years they are.
Of course! Rumors are Green Bay may look to trade up in the first round, but I think it's unlikely they're targeting a LB. I think Wyatt Teller in a later round could be a steal. I could also get on board with a Tim Settle/Mike Daniels DL pairing.
Saw a mock that had Wyatt going to the Seahawks who desperately need help protecting Wilson
They need a running back so Wilson isn't their leading rusher. But I'm okay with Wilson getting planted over and over again, so...
They picked a runningback, but still a weird choice
I'd love to see Tremaine as the next legendary Bears MLB.
He plays outside
Technically, Backer is an ILB position. The nice thing about 'Maine is he can also flex outside too.
The Bears switched to a 3-4 and now have 2 ILB. Most of the discussion about him amongst Bears fans has been about whether he could move to one of those spots and still fit the scheme.
I'm waiting for my next jersey purchase to be a contributing Hokie on the Cowboys, even if I have to get it custom made. So I guess, yes, i would like them on my team.
Dude.... I would LOOOVE to see a Hokie rocking the blue and silver!!!! That would be awesome. I am excited when they are in the NFL, but it pains me to see Hokies playing for the skins.
Eagles trade down slightly to get Timmy in the early second and another later pick. Please let that happen
My team is Tampa Bay, so no I don't want them to draft Hokies. Then I would become more emotionally invested in the Bucs than I need to be and that only ends in shame.
Holy shit, another one. How'd you become a bucs fan
I honestly have no idea. I've been a Bucs fan for as long as I can remember, since the late 90s. I've lived in Virginia for all my life, so I have no geographical connection. I think it was one of those things where when I watched football when I was a little, their colors and name just kind of stuck out so I started cheering for them.
Family legacy, here. (Though TBH I don't follow the NFL at all)
Is this a serious question? Would love the Raiders to grab a badass freak of nature LB in the 1st and his older brother at S in the 2nd if they are still avaliable since we need help at both positions...
Probably the only Tennessee Titans fan on here, saw Wyatt get mocked to the Titans in the 3rd and I got irrationally happy, would love to see that, he was one of my favorite Hokies to watch
Absolutely, love it when Hokies get decked out in Black n' Gold... wish Jason Worilds hadn't retired so soon he was having a nice career in the 'burgh
And I always root for the opposite. I like to think our Hokies are better than the cheap-shot dirty play of the Squeelers.
lol, hold the salt please. Everyone's gotta get so worked up when these NFL threads come around.
Jason Worilds saw the light and just retired early.
lol guess so, you're sharp dude.
When it comes to my relationship with the squeelers it's more like :

By "relationship", you almost certainly mean "opinion". Assuming that you have no regular direct or indirect contact with anyone employed by that organization. Also, the spelling would be "squealer"
Edit: How big is that salt pile today?
Squeelers is closer to Steelers than Squealers, its trash talk, not the third grade spelling bee.
Its rough, really like the Edmundses, hate seeing any Hokies play for Shittsburg.
I'm thinking we're gonna pick up Terrell. Would be super excited
Yeah, would love to see his flowing locks roaming in the defensive backfield.
Edit: Dude, you called it straight up... wish I could give you more legs!!
For the sake of my Hokies, I don't want them coming anywhere near the garbage fire in Washington. Somehow I'm still barely hanging in there as a fan. (Mostly by pulling up 80's and early 90's highlights on youtube)
I would actually really like the Browns to land Settle, Teller, Stroman, or Cam Phillips. All of which I think would help out with positions of need. Browns won't go after either of the Edmunds bros ( I would argue they need more help at safety, but Jabrill Peppers was just taken in the first round to fill the role that Terrelle would be best suited). I think Tech has a lot of players that are second round talents and will still be available at the end of Day 2.
Tim Settle getting drafted to the Eagles on a DL that rotates constantly would be an absolute ideal situation for him. With the sheer number of players they have on that line who need to be doubled on any given play he could put up big numbers in a short time.
The Broncos tweeted about Tremaine a few days ago. Pretty psyched that we might have a chance at him at pick 5.
Another Broncos fan around here? Finally!
Yep, started playing fantasy football back when Royal was a Bronco. So naturally that's how I picked my team.
As good a reason as any. I still have my #19 Orange Royal jersey. Still comes out for moderately big occasions from time to time.
Fucking. broke. my. heart. when he went to San Diego and fucking crybaby phillip rivers.
No... I wouldn't wish Dan Snyder on anyone...
I want the Falcons to draft literally every Hokie available. Tremaine won't make it to them, but they have holes at DT, Safety, CB, and Guard.
Soooooo Settle, Terrell, Facyson/Stroman, and Teller....
Seconded and +1.
Although I'm sure you're aware, the birds have quite a checkered history with drafting Hokies. Still, I'm all for it.
" the Cubs, Vikquweers, and Kittens "
I don't know which is worst, the fact that you think it is funny to drop a homophobic insult or the fact that you had to reach so hard to somehow make it fit with the word "Vikings".
Just kidding. The homophobia is definitely worse, by orders of magnitude. What are you, twelve years old?
Seems to be a common theme in these NFL-related threads that fans must come up with goofy ass names for teams that are their favorite team's division rivals. (See HomebrewHokie08 a few posts up)
Why have a QU and W?
vic-kwu-weers?
Typo tbh. Im gonna change it though because I forgot that ribbing isn't allowed on the internet
There's ribbing and there's being a dick. Referring to the Lions as "kittens" is ribbing. Venture in racist or homophobic territory and you're out there looking like the RISD hockey mascot
Apologies TKP, wont happen again.
If self-moderation to keep people (anyone, really) from crossing the line from harmless ribbing to being Scrotie makes me (or anyone, really) the PC police, I'll take that.
"If you run into an asshole in the morning, you ran into an asshole. If you run into assholes all day, you're the asshole." -Raylan Givens
If the "PC police" are truly inescapable for you, then maybe, just maybe, it is you that is the problem.
Look. I've been on this site since 2013. This is seriously the first time I've gotten into a dialogue like this. I have removed the post, apologized, and am moving on. We are now getting into the territory of attacking my character as a person following ONE word I posted in a single comment I made that was meant to talk a little trash in an NFL thread. This is demonstrating my point, and I'd appreciate it if y'all eased up
I legged you for the edit and believe you when you say it won't happen again, and I really do hope that's the case. I don't think comment above was directed at "your character" with respect to your first joke, but more so a commentary on the fact that your response to being called out on it was to say that we don't have a sense of humor (can't even joke on the internet!) and that we are policing for political correctness. There's plenty around here that isn't politically correct and there's plenty of good jokes around here too. but there is a line and we as a community do our best not to cross it and to point it out when others do, too.
agreed with Gobble, I also legged you for the quick response and take down, much quicker than many would have... the rest of the dialogue seemed to be that in your response you were also calling out folks for being too PC, which seemed a bit contradictory to the quick take-down... No harm man, everyone's fingers do shit without our mind's consent sometimes. Keeping everyone in-check doesn't make them too PC, it's just watching out for the FAM since we're quite the diverse bunch and none of us would want to be responsible for actually hurting another Hokie.
All is well, let's go watch Maine Savage rep VT in round 1!
I enjoy seeing Hokie players get drafted to the teams I like. As a Cowboys fan, I would like to see us get Terrell Edmunds or Stroman/Facyson or Timmy. We could also use Cam in a later round pick although I think he would do much better in a place with a better QB throwing to him like New Orleans, ATL, or NE that could utilize his ability to get out of cuts quickly.
That being said, I want them to go as early as possible so as long as they don't go to any of the NFC East teams outside Dallas, not getting them doesn't bother me at all.
I still want Sam Rogers to find his was into a Patriots uniform. That'd be a jersey I'd buy in an instance.
I would really appreciate having big Timmy Settle however. We still mix packages and run a 3-4 front at times. We haven't had a proficient, space eating DT since Vince Wilfork moved on.
There is nothing like watching an 330 pound lineman with the that kind of agility. Timmy was fun to watch!
Within the ACC, the one pick I am practically counting on to the Patriots is Braxton Berrios in the late rounds.
6th Round, 210 overall is where the Pats took Berrios.
Giants fan here - QB or trade down at #2. Not sure drafting Tremaine makes sense after getting Ogletree, especially with so many holes on the roster. Would love to see any Hokie drafted by the Giants, even if David Wilson and Jayron Hosley didn't pan out like I would have hoped
I'm a very part-time Eagles and Panthers fan (e.g. I've lived near both teams and I'll prefer to tune into their games on Sunday drives back from Blacksburg to Pennsylvania). I love it when either team has Hokies on them, because otherwise I have to tune into other games to hear Hokies playing.
As a DC sports fan, it just so happens that my favorite team is in need of LB, OG, DT, and DB help.
So Edmundses, Wyatt Teller, and Big Timmy....come on down!
(I also hate everything about my team and myself for loving them so please go elsewhere or we'll ruin your career)
