picking or announcing?
with less than a week of lead time gotta think he has his mind made up.
I saw a lot of Irish offensive lineman get drafted today, but all I remember is Tech running over that same team in their house on national tv. So I see who's trending where
I'd be shocked if he picks VT. Would be nice, though.
Not gonna happen folks. Simonds will likely close out this class on the OL.
I'm in love with this.
He's overrated anyways /s
If we got him our O Line class would be π©π©
Sure, but if we get Simonds this will still be our best OL class since... anyone? A long friggin' time, put it that way.
Not saying "who cares" about Carroll, but I am acutely aware of the crootin' uptick we're seeing from Double V
2008's class had a mean rating of .8963 with 3 players
If Simonds commits, this class' rating would be .8914 with 3 players
Following Colin's Twitter, the bulk of activity re: his little brother sure looks like a heavy ND lean. I expect this to unfold in a Shawn Witten-Jason Witten way for us.
Damn was hoping the change in offensive line coach at ND would help Tech.
Happy for him - sounds like he's happily heading to his dream school. I wish ND had a different coach, but I kind of do miss the days when they were legitimate title contenders, and I'd rather see them pushing for a playoff spot than FSU, OSU, Miami or Bama.
You say that now. A lot of fan bases change for the worse once they get successful.
and Notre Dame is one of the worst..
And there are so flippin' many of them. I swear ND has the largest, most dispersed fanbase in the country.
Ohio State hands down. ND has the most old people though
So which dwarf are ND fans again?
You say that until they get in over acc cjampion vt
The worst one..... Ginger Dwarf...
Ooooh, I can just hear it now. "Ahhhh, to be sure if I had me shillelagh, t'would be on yer head b'now." And then they'd be trotting out Rudy...
Just watching the draft today...we had two former three-star recruits become first-round draft picks. The same thing happens to Kyle Fuller. Andrew Brown, Quin Blanding, De'Shawn Hand, Josh Sweat etc. all dropped/dropping in the draft compared to initial expectations when they were freshmen.
Does it really matter if we don't get five-star guys on a consistent level? I'm more than comfortable being the "Oakland A's" of college football; unearthing diamonds in the rough and turning them into NFL players on a regular basis. We'll eventually win a natty if we keep recruiting the right kids.
Former walk-ons can be first round draft picks, and 5* recruits can go undrafted. But don't be fooled by an individual player's story. 5*s get drafted higher than 4*s on average, and so on. So yes, a team can get somewhat lucky getting kids who perform higher than their high school ranking, like VT did in the past, but it's very hard to do consistently.
The counterargument is that Bud has consistently gotten three-star recruits to play like five-star players. The keyword is consistent. Somebody like French could speak more intelligently about this but how much does our defense change if we had multiple five-star guys on the roster in lieu of the Kyle Fuller and Edmundi of the world?
I think our players are being developed by some of the best coaches out there. I think that getting more players he have better size, speed, strength, and skill from the get go will still benefit tremendously from our coaches.
As someone who can look at HS film all day and not be able to tell a 3* at a small school from a 5* at a big one, I believe Bud is best the talent evaluator of HS DB's out there. Its one thing to say he develops them, its another to see him trot out player after player who makes an impact after a very short time in the system. Not to say he does not development who we get, or that he gets everyone he wants, or that we would not be better if we got his first choice rather than his third, but I have more faith that a 3* BD Bud likes will be a good player than that a player we don't offer that has 4*s will be good. Its my opinion that part of why VT is DBU is that Bud is better at identifying which player has it without needing to see them play against top talent in college schemes.
In the middle you summed up what I was trying to. I think the Buds defense would be mighty frightening if he always had his first pick of player. Realistically he doesn't, nobody does, but he still transforms his players into men
Bud is a hell of a coach and our defenses would be flat out nasty if we had the talent of Clemson, Bama, Ohio St, etc
Draft position does not directly translate to impact on your college team winning.
Safe bet is ND.... not gonna be close.
What happened in the last 5 days?
I'd like to be surprised but it's hard to go against the favorite here. Nothing changed just to big of an obstacle to overcome.
5 days ago it was "ND isn't a sure bet". Now its "not even close". That seems like something changed.
I didn't think we'd get him. But those are very different.
2 ND offensive linemen got drafted in the first round
And their position coach is now in the NFL. Shouldn't have *that* much of an effect.
We have changed Defensive Backs Coach, but we are still DBU. I think the position coach leaving only has an impact if he is the main recruiter.
Not just first round, top 10
I am always optimistic and I heard good things after the visit. But I also became aware about some quotes he made and it definitely changed me mind. Nothing against Tech just made me think ND is gonna have a great player.
Btw I can't remember where I read it from if you're asking.
And it's ND.
Anyone that's surprised hasn't been on TKP lately. Best of luck to him.
Maybe something will change between now and NSD.
Well,
Now I can post this
