Hello fellow TKPers,
r/CFB has started a new, live game of risk based on the imperialism map. Every user can either defend their territory or attack an adjacent territory.
This link provides the overview of the game
The first move is obviously to take Charlottesville. Still looking for a place where Hokies are getting organized. Thought I'd post here for discussion and to draw some eyes to the event. (If this is too silly, oh great and powerful mods, feel free to remove this)
Go Hokies!

I personally do not use reddit, but would support a full fledged takeover of C-ville and Morganhole. One would think that WVU and Pitt would go straight for each others throats. VT best move may be to attack the smaller schools around us first to gather up some territory then mount the attack on C-ville. If the WAHoos even notice the game, my guess is they will be in a defensive mode to start.
Edit: Another strategy would be to abandon B-Burg initially and head up the coast to the state of NY and take the New England area all the way up to Maine. Not a lot of support for football up that way and then you would only have to concentrate defending and attacking forces at the NY border.

If you're not taking the kamchatka peninsula and all of south america, you're not even trying.
#teamAustralia #playingforsecond
Update: After day one of the war, the Hokies have defended Blacksburg and taken three territories: Charlottesville, Huntington, WV, and Winston-Salem, NC.
The Wahoos have survived by taking Lynchburg from the fightin' Fallwells. It is their only stronghold and they must be destroyed. The Buckeyes are advancing from the Northwest and the Tigers are advancing from the South. The Mountaineers are holding fast in Morgantown.
The Wahoos took Lynchburg you say?
I won't stand for it. I'm calling in reinforcements from Sweet Briar, Randolph and Lynchburg Colleges. They all have better teams than LOLUVA.
Don't forget Longwood!!! The Lancers are undefeated since 1839... We could also use the Hamsters from Hamster Land (aka Hampden-Sydney). They might be good for something.... They could be the decoy... LOLUVA comes out thinking they can beat the Hamsters. Then the Hamsters weaken their defenses. Oh wait LOLUVA's defense is already weak.
So we come in with the help of the Spiders and LOLUVA tries to run away from the terrifying Spiders and we conquer them.. Kinda like real life...
I cannot seem to find the map anywhere, is this something you have to be a reddit member to see?
Yeah, I think so.
Here's a screenshot:

This is the current leaderboard (hopefully this link works)
EDIT: Alaska and Hawai'i belong to "Team Chaos," which is a kind of zombie state in this game, where eliminated schools can still play. Right now Team Chaos seems overpowered. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
Fuente and Foster's March to the sea
burn it all to the ground
Let's start with ECU
My guess is LOTS of surrounding schools are going to hit Blacksburg this turn.
signed up for reddit just for this and they still haven't processed my signup yet so I can't partake. If we lose, I blame their antiquated sign up procedure.
Awesome! I would like to think a school that has a College of Engineering and a Corps of Cadets at the center of it's identity should do well at this.
Excellent. Once you're in, join r/VTfbRisk as well. I made it so we can discuss strategy because no one else was putting together any coordinated home base (I have no idea what I'm doing so I hope it works)
I think we need to send spies into the adjacent teams' subreddits.
Yes!
Tried to join and it's set to private
username = VT_R3TRIBUTION
You should have access now! I'm keeping out the spies!
Could you link it, can't find it.
Sure! Send me a message on Reddit (same username LargeFood) and I'll add you to the group. the link is reddit.com/r/VTfbRisk
Sent you a message on reddit as well I think
u/futurehokieDO
Could you add me? I'm HokieNerd.
ok, help me out here. joined reddit. Went to risk page. Tried to vote, but it has me on team chaos. How does one switch teams?
Have to get your VT flair.
Update on our status? I see we have 6 territories, but UVA still has one, I call this underperforming.
Day 2 Results:
Territories Added: 3
- Liberty (from UVA)
- ODU (from ECU)
- UNC (from UNC)
Territories Lost: 1
- Wake Forest (to UVA)
Current Map:

The major powers in our region of the map are:
Ohio State, Penn State, VT, Tennessee, Clemson
Based on this map, make an alliance with Ohio State! You can suffocate the northeast together. Tech can move South and OSU can work west/north.
LOLUVA took WF from us, so that's their only territory.
Strategizing for 5/2
please join and put in your vote in the poll so we can coordinate appropriately
We are up to number 3 on the leaderboard; Nebraska and Florida have a huge number of users; might be tough to compete with them, so we might want to march south a bit to get a buffer between us and Florida as they move north.
Hey, I know this is a silly game, but we can use more hands. We are in a decent position, tied for 3rd with land, but the more help we can get, the better we can win this glorified online poll!
Okay, I have a question. How do I get associated with Virginia Tech? I see the icons everybody has, just not how to set my own. I think they have me on team chaos right now.
You have to set your flair on reddit/com/r/cfb to VT
after you set your flair, go to the voting page and in the upper right, where it says team chaos, it will let you choose team chaos or VT.
It took a couple hours after setting my flair for it to change to this. That may be the case with you as well.
Got it working, and set my action for the day.
This is getting to be a rabbit hole. Gotta flair-up for this, so I'm posting comments as fast as the timer allows me to. I've gotta stop this and get some more work done.
This is awesome. I love games and cartography. Just joined.
I looked at the leaderboard and it looks like VT is definitely punching above its weight class! Keep it up! Also, anyone mind posting a copy of the map for those of us casually following along?
I can post it a little later. We've taken Maine! But we're very broken up in the middle.
Here's the map. (Link)

And a link to the leaderboard. (Link)
Looks like this map updated on its own. Must have directed this to the image source page and reddit has not changed the address as it updates. Awesome!
Also, looks like yesterday was a bad day. Lost a lot of territory and Penn St? swooped in to Maine.
I want to see the Crimson Tide sweep through the florida peninsula
Yep. Yesterday was really bad. RNG bent us over the table.
Some examples:
VT territory: 18 defenders (42 total stars after multiplier), 6 attackers (9 total stars), attacker wins
UMass territory: 19 defenders (43 stars), 4 attackers (11 stars), attacker wins
BC territory: 20 defenders (40 stars), 12 attackers (24 stars), attacker wins
There were some victories by VT yesterday, but they were mainly strong attacker vs weak defender, no real upsets, but one.
PSU territory: 6 CU defenders (13 stars), 78 attackers, which break down like this:
- 8 VT attackers (11 stars)
- 1 RU attacker (1 star)
- 4 AU attackers (7 stars)
- 22 PSU attackers (51 stars)
- 43 UM attackers (95 stars)
We should not have won that territory. RNG left us a mint on the pillow after boning us all night long.
I really hate RNG.
Don't casually follow along. Jump in the game and...

Am I inept, or can someone tell me exactly how the defending and attacking work?
add up the star ratings of the defenders, compare to overall stars of combatants and then a random number generator spits out a value. So, say you have 15 stars defending a non-home territory and 25 attacking. Total stars is 40, so any result less than 0.375 goes to the defending team all else goes to the attackers. Then a random number is spit out dictating which of the attacking teams gets the territory. In theory, you could have 1 of 100 stars be from Tech joining with 99 other attackers and still get the territory after the win. Totally stupid system, but that's how it is.
Defending home territories works the same except all defenders get double stars.
So what I am actually asking, is to attach or defend, what exactly do i need to do? I can click defend VT, but is there more to it than that? And for attacking, it gives me a list of schools with "attack" next to it. But what more do I need to do?
If you already answered this then I will just assume it is Monday that is making me thick headed.
No, there's not. It'll compile the list of all the people who are defending VT, and the list of all the players attacking VT, and do its magic behind the scenes.
Nothing. See above.
Word. I was clearly over thinking it.
Once you've selected your action, it'll say at the top of the screen what your current action is.
I was actually trying to attack, like it was a game. Thought I would get to do more. Find a school to go after and run in there and fuck shit up Leroy Jenkins style.
Just to clarify, you get one action per turn. You must choose if you are going to defend one of the territories or attack an adjacent territory. Make sure you're coordinating with us over on r/VTfbRisk !
I'm so lost on reddit.
How do you see the numbers for how we won/lost territories?
Go to the map. Click on a region. Then look at the history box in the lower left. Click on the previous day's owner and it will open a new window with voting tallies. Do not click on the mvp username or it will just go to that users voting history.
Ah. Wasn't aware that the icons were clickable.
Is the MVP the one that RNG selected as the winner?
Yes. Always displayed at the top of the voting list for the territory
We've been having some fun over in r/VTfbRisk with some counter-espionage. Basically, we had a Clemson guy request an invite to the private sub where we strategize and coordinate our actions. We realized it right away after vetting his reddit comment history, but instead of turning him away we decided to create a fake discord channel and give him fake orders, along with a group of our guys who were in on the whole thing. We strung him along for two days before he got pissed at our "incompetent leadership." He was a good sport though after we revealed to him that the whole thing was a setup and that he wasn't actually getting access to our real strategy discussions.
Full story (post made by the Clemson spy himself) here:
So I tried to be a spy and failed MISERABLY. This is what happens when one Clemson wiseass runs into a whole group of VT wiseasses.
See the background/summary posted by johnson5067 (me) in the comments before diving into the chat screenshots.
Broken link, I think. Or do you have to be signed in to Reddit to read it?
I just logged out of reddit and can still access it. (It just adds a banner to the top of the page encouraging you to create an account and join a community.) You trying to access from a work computer?
Well done. I don't reddit, but that's pretty good.
Just checked in to see how things are going. Looks like total stars are up, but territories is down. At least Tech is still alive!
The breaking news on r/CFBRisk today is that Florida was caught instructing users to make alt accounts to increase their voting several fold. And there are suspicions that other big teams (like Michigan) who have been increasing users by vast amounts every day are doing the same.
We tried to take the northeast corner of the map but it was a bit chaotic up there and we couldn't get it done. (One turn in particular really screwed us over with the RNG and prevented us from having a shot at securing the area.) We killed Boston College who was holding out in Maine, but Clemson arrived and interfered. They took the northeast corner, but by that time we saw the writing on the wall that the massive Michigan team was moving into the northeast corner, so we moved back out. (And now Clemson is pinned up there without anywhere to go.)
So VT (~230 voting power) looks like it will get crushed by Florida coming up from the south (~1120 voting power) and Michigan coming down from the north (~620 voting power). Again, those big numbers are suspected alt accounts or even bots, but the game mods basically said there's nothing they're going to do about it, so now it's an alt account race.
might want to edit the end of that post, this is public, afterall and the subreddit isn't.
loose lips sink ships
Doh! ộ_ộ
Good catch.
Dammit. What'd I miss?
We got some computer savvy people up here I'm sure we could find a way to up that voter count
