Game Times...

Will we realistically get a night game this year?? We may be lucky to get the 3:30 spot for the duke game, so that leaves Maryland as the last hope. Thoughts?

Miami could be 3:30 ABC or night on ESPN.
and I could see the BC game being either noon or 7:30 ESPN2, with Miami-F$U at 3:30 on ABC...

I think he was referring to home games.

Rip his freaking head off!

with only Duke and Maryland left, I would say no then...

If Miami and VT are both ranked, it will more than likely be prime time.

Sadly enough, I'm hoping that Duke will be a noon game as I don't want to not watch the last half of the game due to plans later in the evening.

EDIT: Whoospidoodles, your comment was older than I thought it was.

They didn't look good at all against FSU. Hell, they looked flat out terrible. But if you look at their schedule they shouldn't have more than 3 total losses by that game. So 6-3 is the worst case. 7-2 is best.

The other conference games that week are:
Syracuse @ FSU
Miam @ Duke
UNC @ Pitt
NC State @ BC
GT @ Clemson (Thursday)

I'd say based on that we're gonna get a 3:30 game that week.

Rip his freaking head off!

If FSU beats Miami, they will get that 3:30 game. They may not even need to beat Miami, it might be announced the week before.

Syracuse is a brand and the 3:30 slot usually goes to the best team.

With no Thursday night home game this year I thought a night game was a given. Thanks for nothing Weaver...

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but just thought I'd say it anyway; it's not Weaver's fault that we don't get the night kickoffs on Saturdays.

No, but it WAS Weaver who took away the home Thursday night game, which I'm sure he was referencing.

yeah I was haha but he really did screw us on no Thursday night game this year. but hey as long as we keep winning ill be ok with every game at noon.

I would play our Thursday night games at noon if you told me we'd win all of them.

valid point. Im just upset at the lack of attendance and the decline in environment at lane so far this season. Hopefully it will be wild for the big date with Pitt Saturday.

I agree about the decline in environment. I was saddened and upset to be asked to sit down by a cop while visiting Lane for the UNC game. Who the hell pays that kind of money to sit and watch the game? You don't become a loud, rough environment for opponents to play in if you're not standing and screaming at the top of your lungs.

Another thing I noticed...when I was attending VT, we actually screamed most of the time while the defense was on the field, including in-between plays because that was when the new play was being sent in and the QB was trying to tell the rest of their players what play to run. It leads to more false starts, more delays of game, and more busted plays because someone gets the play wrong. It should be even MORE prevalent for hurry up offenses because there is very little delay from the end of one play to the next. Of course, people wait until they line up and then start yelling now...so it minimizes the effect of the 12th man.

*rant off*

i have noticed this as well....i'll stand and scream between plays but nobody around me is on board. It's frustrating

Onward and upward

That's how it was in 2007 against BC. We gave Matt Ryan hell in that huddle. They must've had 15 false start penalties. But the dropoff in the yelling on between plays/during huddle is nationwide. Not just at VT. I guess people are just getting lazy.

I was at that game. I remember in the week leading up to it there was a "Make Jeff Deaf" campaign because he claimed that he wasn't worried about crowd noise and that playing in Lane was no different than playing anywhere else. What an arrogant guy...

Onward and upward

I was there too and I remember that. I left that game without a voice and I dont think I could speak for a week.

The Main reason why I love the Thursday night is because we are on PrimeTime TV at night and thats what recruits want to see.

Pour some Beer on it

The main reason I love Thursday night in Blacksburg:

Did my video just get reposted? My life is made, I can die now.

But really, it was unbelievably loud on the field that day. I couldn't hear the guy standing right next to me. I can only imagine how loud it would have been if we won.

Rip his freaking head off!

This never gets old! My favorite part is when the stadium goes nearly silent, and the announcer says "It's Thursday night in Blacksburg!" Wow. Just Wow.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I believe we have plans for a game on December 7 that should be at night and a game in Miami sometime around the beginning of the year that will likely be at night.

No, no I'm really enjoying waking up at 4:30am to get prepared to watch the games at 6:00am here in Hawaii. My dogs are also getting used to receiving "Touchdown cheese" early in the mornings too! (good thing they do not rely on TD cheese as their only source of food as they have been staring a me during games lately wondering when they would be getting some although last weeks first half they really enjoyed!)

"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works every time!"

I swear I am trying to feel bad for you but damn it, you live in Hawaii. But a turkey leg for dedication in getting up that early in the morning.

6-5, 10-1-1, 2-9, 3-8, 6-4-1, 6-5, 5-6, 2-8-1, 9-3, 8-4, 10-2, 10-2, 7-5, 9-3, 11-1, 11-1, 8-4, 10-4, 8-5, 10-3, 11-2, 10-3, 11-3, 10-4, 10-3, 11-3, 11-3, 7-6, 8-5, 7-6, 7-6, 10-4, 9-4, 6-7, 8-5..........

I know, I know but trust me it's not all it's cracked up to be. I much preferred the 8 years I lived in the Bahamas. (people were really feeling bad for me back in those days when they were making my house feel like a hotel every week for 8 years!) At least I could get to games from there!

"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works every time!"

8 years in the Bahamas, then on to Hawaii. What are you? A palm tree?

Leonard. Duh.

lol....I would have gone with coconut here...at least they can move around a little more easily than a tree can

have a leg anyway for the preposterous accusation

Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

nice way to get monty python on here...have a leg

Oh my God, #ALLTHETURKEYLEGS
I award you the internet, sir. Use it wisely.

Yeah, dude. I think we've been down this road before. Shutup.

If I lived in Hawaii, I'd get up at 4:30a every day anyway...just to get an early start on all of the Hawaiian activities that I would be participating in.

Leonard. Duh.

But dude I'm suffering have not been to Lane Stadium since I think 07 or 08 whichever year we had LOLUVA at home. Really need a tailgate, some Enter Sandman live w/ the new scoreboard and rails fix!!

"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works every time!"

duke may be a 3:30 game

md will probably be 3:30 game

I would be (pleasantly) surprised if we get a true night game, but I think we'll have at least one game played under the lights of Lane (for the second half at least)

is it sad that I'm settling for the potential for an afternoon game?

seriously, it almost feels like there is a conspiracy to try breaking down the spirit of Hokie Nation

Onward and upward

I don't want the Hokies to play a Saturday night game this year. I'd be cool with a 330p start, but the Hokies seem to fall short on Sat after 8. The U '05, Bama '09, Boise State '10, LSU '07, Clemson '11 come to mind...especially if Herbie and Musburger are commentating. I hate those guys...it seems the Hokies really screw up in games they are calling.

Leonard. Duh.

aside from Herbie being a big tOSU homer (which admittedly hasn't been as obvious lately) I don't really mind him too much.

I really do despise Musburger though...a lot!!!

I've said this before, but what self respecting grown man has frosted tips and fake tans? No turkey legs for Herbie!

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

FWIW, Boise was on a monday night (labor day 2010)

VT Class of 2017

Worth plenty to me. I stand corrected on Boise. However, Kirkstreit and Musburger were in the booth that night, so there's that.

Clemson '11 was at 5:30 in Lane. Are you talking about the ACCCG?

Driving in from out of town and tailgating for noon games is such a drag...#ACCproblems

As a grad student living in Philly I would love nothing more than a game 3:30 or later. I have to watch the game. Just have to and try to plan around it. But I hate waking up early on the weekends and usually don't. It would be great to be able to study from like 10:30-11 to like 3 before a game so I could not be buzzed and try to study after. It never really works out well.

The bye week will also begin at noon on October 19th.
