Virginia Tech announces CB Adonis Alexander is no longer on the football team and CB Jeremy Webb underwent surgery to repair left Achilles and is out for the year. A huge blow to the #Hokies' cornerback position, with two potential starters now out.— Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) June 1, 2018

Football program saw us enjoying the Denmark news
Well fuck.
Uh is... Is this bad? This seems bad...
(Statement is tongue-in-cheek)
BREAKING:
RocketHokie13 To Miss Entire 2018 Season (tongue, cheek)
Rip
If NCAA 18 were a thing, I'd move Hunter and Mook to CB, assuming Deablo is healthy enough to play FS. Floyd remains at SS. Behind that, no idea. Good lord we're thin.
I'd move Mook to cb and hunter to whip
No chance that Hunter plays CB.
Slam the under on 8.5 wins.
Gotta head to Delaware this week after this news
Yup, welcome back to late-Beamer-era territory. Will be a struggle to get to 7 wins this year.
I. love. this. gif.
Is this a metaphor for how this season looks like it is going to be a train wreck, but we actually come out unscathed for the most part? Because that's what I'm going with.
The forward pass is illegal this year, right!
it's moved from sad to funny at this point
nope, I lied. Still sad.
Son. Of. A. Bitch.
I am not happy about the Adonis Alexander news in the slightest bit. I really liked him, and we desperately needed him at corner.
I said this the wrong way and I apologize:
Seems like he is a shitty human, who has had multiple chances to straighten himself out.He has had 2 suspensions, previous to being kicked off the team for academic purposes. I can tell you from my own personal experience working for the football team as an undergrad, the football players get all the chances in the world. I certainly know my fair share of players that have smoked weed all the damn, time or had alcohol issues. I also know that, if they have academic struggles, they have every resource at their disposal, including tutors and study halls.
So, when someone is released from the team, he has been given a ton of chances to do the right thing, and it is not something that is taken lightly.
He didn't take responsibility for his end of the deal and he let the coaches, players, and fans down. That's why I chose that gif down there. Literally the team coaches and probably some players have spoken.
I hope he get's his shit together, he certainly has talent.
As far as being on the team goes:
Smoking weed and struggling with college academics don't make you a shitty human. Let's not make character judgements about people we don't know personally. Sure there is a chance his academic struggles came from a lack of effort, but it's also possible that he needed more help than he received (or was willing to ask for), or that he was struggling with depression (which I've seen sink some really brilliant students). I am certain that almost nobody here actually knows the truth unless they are close to AA.
I'd like to move a little towards the middle here. He was suspended twice already, so lets look at it a little differently:
1. He let the team down
2. He made a commitment and failed to live up to it and used scholarship money to do so. Athletes have a ton of academic, physical, and counseling services available to them.
I refuse to jump to "well, he could have clinical depression" just to shield him from criticism.
He may not be a crappy "human", but I think the fanbase being critical isn't out of line.
Calling him a shitty human without knowing him is out of line. Criticism is fair, calling someone a shitty human based on what we know is not fair.
...And if he did have clinical depression the university has mental health resources.
So let's just say he did have clinical depression. Seeking help would be part of a commitment to be the best AA he could be. If he's the best AA he could be then he'd also be a better team mate.
He's definitely not a crappy "human" but he is young and has a lot to learn and probably isn't ready for the kind of commitment being an FBS athlete requires.
Football isn't only played between the end zones and sidelines it's also played between the ears.
The beauty of sport is that kids and young adults have an opportunity to learn life lessons in an environment that is safe. No one was hurt, no home was foreclosed, no permanent damage done. This is an opportunity for a young adult to learn a valuable life lesson....or could be the impetus necessary for a young man in crisis to get the professional help he/she needs. Not making any assumptions about the kid...my only observation is that consequences given are opportunities for change, learning and growth. The adults did this kid a favor. Good luck AA - keep growing and keep learning. Shake it off and step up.
The point is criticism at all is unfounded. He's a kid, we are adults, and none of us know him personally. At the end of the day his life is the one that is being affected, so let him and his handle it. Calling someone a "shitty human" or any kind of judgement is out of line. He's not on the team anymore, move on and focus on the football side, not speculation on people's personal lives.
He's 21 and hes about to make a lot more money than most of us if he gets picked up in the supplemental. I don't think we should attack him, but I strongly disagree with the "they're just kids" excuse that gets thrown around a lot. 21 is plenty old to understand consequences and be expected to make the right decisions.
Ok, fine, he's an adult you don't know with his own personal issues. Criticism and judgments are counter-productive and a little petty. Lamenting CB depth is fine, calling names and making judgments is not.
Why is it taboo to call a spade a spade and say he let the team down? He's not a terrible human being. But he didn't keep up his end of the bargain
Ok well this 21 year old "kid"had significant privileges that most "kids" would love to have. He consumed quite a bit of resources that could have gone elsewhere to someone that may not have let the team down. Glad the team moved on from his nonsense.
But its not just him being affected. Im pretty sure the coaching staff and teammates were counting on him a whole lot. To a lesser degree the fanbase. And his family Im sure is affected. He was a sure draft pick, now I doubt anybody will fool with him.
Let's stop short of insulting him. One of my best friends from high school flunked out of Tech after one year and I don't call him a shitty human.

Oh, the irony of the internet.
damn, dude...

When are we gonna host some open try outs for DBs?
Eh, we still have Bud. They'll figure something out.
No matter how much lipstick you put on a pig its still a pig, least thats how my dad used to describe UVA football now I feel our backfield this year may be a bit scary. Man I wish we still had either edmunds or settle to help pressure qbs otherwise we may get torched this year alot
{..........Back in my day.........}
Bud had a bunch of CB injuries preseason, 1995 maybe?....and some little true freshman named Anthony Midget was forced into duty. Dude looked 165 lbs sopping wet. I think he wore like #38 or something. But he could play.
Bud figures it out.
Kendall Fuller and Facyson started and played very well as true freshman too. The situation isn't ideal but the coaches have time to prepare the young guys and field a competitive unit.
Looks like Bud is gonna have to break out the bear claw 3-6-3 defense
Uhhh, that's definitely a paddlin'.
Only if he's coaching in Canada, eh?!
The off-season of misery continues...
[insert audibly loud fart noise]
Alexander is a story in NFL what if. That kid had size and athleticism.
Any idea why hes been booted?
Academics
He means besides a certain player that wore the #5 jersey & wasn't named Mike Vick??
And another player that wore 28 whose name started with a B and ended with randon Ore.
And another player that was (somewhat) featured on Last Chance U, and is now in the NFL.
I was sad to see him leave VT, especially after that Spring Game in 2015, but watching him choose Marshall over WVU and lead the secondary of the best defense in CUSA last season was a lot of fun.
CJ being dismissed from VT was in the hands of the student conduct council and not the athletic dept. The student conduct council has the "stain" of that decision forever in their hands.
CJ will always be a Hokie first!
That was over 15 years ago. Hate to make you feel old, but he doesn't qualify as recent.
It wasn't 15 years ago. It was 12. Don't age me lol.
Academic
Academic(s)
From what I understand the academics were poor and he was likely facing some trouble there but additionally, according to my highly limited sources, he was also pulled over in Radford two weeks ago with 4 squad cars on the scene. Unsure why he was pulled over but he does have some history. That was likely the final straw.
When was the last time our secondary was below average? These losses hurt but if there is one group that always seems to perform, regardless of "recruiting talent" on the roster, it's the secondary. I trust Bud will be able to compensate for these losses.
This. Highly ranked high school CBs can play as true freshman without any glaring issues. In our defense I am more concerned about a green Mike than a green CB.
Thats a bummer. Hopefully Farley, Watts, and Waller are gonna be able to be ready for the bright lights!
This is not the end of the world. It's not like we were all tooled up for a natty run and now the rug has been pulled out from under us. Bud will adjust. Youth and inexperience will cost us this season as it was always going to.
I'm nursing the thought that our offense will take a noticeable step forward and make up for some shortcomings on D thereby evening out these recent losses.
How I feel:

I shouldn't be laughing...I shouldn't...
Yeah, why not just beat us over the head with a tuba?
Because this feels like what I'd imagine that feels like.
tbh, I'd take a blow to the head with a tuba if it meant not losing 2 starting CB prospects...
Going into this fall, a successful season to me is keeping the bowl streak alive and beating LOLUVA. This season is going to be rough.
I don't think you need to go that far. It's not like the ACC is loaded this year (we dont play Clemson, FSU is rebuilding, Notre Dame and Miami will be tough tests but are at home). Even with the lack of experience, it's still realistic to see another 9-3 campaign.
Yeah, this blows. But we already pretty much knew bad shit was coming down the pipe with these two. No sense in flipping out over it twice.
Hope the offense can win some shootouts this year
Good thing we have these blue chip recruits right behind them......
Let's get Sam Denmark into that corner spot. Speed!!! It'll all work out.
I hope "a cardboard cutout of Kyle Fuller" still has some eligibility so we can fill some space and scare opposing offenses.
At the very least it would help get in CPJ's head during the GT game.
Just get one of the linemen or linebackers to chuck it as hard as they could across the line at the snap. Would pretty much describe his role in that 2013 game.
Seriously though, why couldn't we (Hokie Nation) have been informed of this before the Denmark news. I prefer my bad news 1st (if there's no option) so as to conclude w/ something positive/good.
I swear to God, I legitmately logged in today with the thought, "maybe I'll see some good news on TKP, its been kind of dry lately." ...instead I got...this. Fuck man.
So like is Bryce Watts good
Watts looked ok when challenged in the spring game, but he wasn't targeted much and Bud removed him from the scrimmage at the same time he pulled Ricky Walker.
Let's hope that Farley can be the player at corner they think he can be. Waller has a lot of promise, but throwing him right into the fray will produce some growing pains. Quillen looked better than Rodgers in the spring game, but... yeah.
I assume that Nadir Thompson will be at corner, and I wouldn't be shocked if Dejuan Ellis got a sniff there. Things just got dire.
I'm still much more worried about DT depth than CB.
Concerns:
1. DT Depth
2. LB Inexperience
3. CB
4. RB talent
my thoughts exactly. as much as I want him on O, this might be enough to lure Ellis to D
I just want to beat FSU.
Is that so much to ask?
Sure seems that way.
*sigh*
Edit: And after today, it really really seems that way.
FSU lost their starting left tackle too.
http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/23663616/florida-state-seminoles-offensive-lineman-josh-ball-no-longer-roster
So a veteran LPD defensive end is going up against a first time left tackle, with a new head coach, and a QB coming back off injury?
Pretty good chance we face more Blackmon than Francois
Hopefully, whoever their QB is will be seeing more black, mon.
leg, but:

Like he said, a QB coming back off injury. There were times I thought Blackmon was going to get snapped in half. It's one thing to be a 185 lb Fr. CB, but 6'5" 185 lb Fr. QB? There's no way he wasn't hurt by the end of the year. (Just not as badly as Francois.)
All this means is that JJ is going to pass for 40 TDs and we're going to average 45 ppg this year....right?
Right?
I would guess 30TD's and 38ppg
This subthread aged well.
Can anyone name a 2 year span where we've lost more NFL level talent? Basically our entire offense 2 years ago and now almost our entire D this past off-season.
I'd say move Mook to Corner along with Kalil Ladler and Farley, have that as the trio with Rodgers, Quillen or waller as the 4th guy
Any chance Mook moves to CB and Hunter starts at Whip? If they are going to get best 11 on field, seems like the best bet, I think Hunter is more ready to play than any of the other corners.
This is almost for sure what's going to happen.
Yes.
My guess is
Mook and Farley/Watts/Ladler/Quillen/Others at Corner
Deablo and Floyd at the safety spots
Hunter at the whip/nickel
If we weren't breaking in new LBs i wouldn't be as worried but shit. Be ready for and pray for some high scoring games this year dudes and dude-ettes.
Ladler will be 2nd safety not cb
so whats the supplemental draft?
The pro equivalent of whatever it is we're doing at RB recruiting right now.
well goodluck to him. hope a team takes a chance on him in the league
Savage.
Peterman.
"J. Crewe."

Some decent players in the past decade or so: Josh Gordon, Terrelle Pryor, Ahmad Brooks.
"but high upside"...I'm sure it was unintentional, but I chuckled
So I still have eligibility left. When's open DB try outs?
Edit:. I am 37 years old and this is a bad, bad idea.
Yeah, you about died last week after a long night of drinking and a concert the next day.
I have eligibility left. I am an excellent tackler... Those poor "little boys" would be terrified of me. I mean seriously I fixed somebody's bum hip when I tackled him... He did get up limping but didn't need the chiropractor anymore. And I may have chased a certain someone (D C I M S A) through Lot 18 ready to tackle him...
Besides who would expect a 37 year old Mom/Kindergarten teacher to channel her inner Edmundi /Motuapoaka/Fuller?
I vote against this. I saw you after your show, Hilgart would have to do work to get you up to speed. And you might run out of eligibility before that happens. Just saying.
I add my overreaction
EDIT: and add in a feel good rebuttal:

Based on the other thread my reaction to the official announcement is some combination of:
and
I'm really not that upset by the Adonis loss. He had some good moments his freshman year, but since then he has been a liability on the field and off. He was the third CB behind Facyson and Stroman last season after starting the season ahead of Facyson. If I'm the coaches and I have a younger guy with good upside who can be counted on to stay out of trouble off the field and makes the same mistakes as a freshman that Adonis made as a junior, I'd roll with that anyway. I know he had tremendous upside with his size and athleticism, but usually if a guy doesn't put it together by his senior year, he never will.
Webb on the other hand, that sucks. He really did remind me a lot of Jimmy Williams, and the coaches don't typically go after JUCO guys unless they're a) completely necessary and b) really talented. I hope he can take a medical redshirt so he has two years of eligibility once he heals up.
I'm assuming that Mook is good to go? Between that forum the other day and the fact that his name wasn't in this press release despite the rumors about him circulating at the same time as Adonis and Webb seems to be a good sign.
Given the last few years i didn't have much hope Alexander would be playing, always felt like he was in the doghouse.
Meanwhile, the talk has been that Webb could contribute immediately/start. How often does the JuCo transfer seem like a bigger loss than an NFL prospect?
*edit: added the s for everyone that can't take a joke
Bowl streak had to come to an end at some point, it was a good run/s...
Carlin always gets a leg
Gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you left off the /s?
AA didn't come here to
This news sucks but was long time rumored. I hope he finds a path in life, remember he is still a hokie.
More like...
So I'm guessing Bud gets a pass this year as well.....
(\s)
My guess would be that most teams will now be wanting to pass on Bud this year
If only AA could have...
Nice
That took me three days before I understood it
I'm excited for the season. So many names I will have no recognition of!
Imagine all of the quick roster scanning we'll get to do between plays. Constant thrill ride!
Those poor, poor ACC network extra commentators. It's a hard enough job as it is.
I think their job got easy enough between last year and this year that it'll be a wash, at worst.
Andrew....Mow-tah-poo-kah on the tackle
I swear Mack Brown once called him Mo-too-puh-woo-shoo.
Lmao, that 2015 NC State game he called. I swear he pronounces Motu's name 5 different ways. It was almost like he would start to pronounce it, look at the entire word and hesitate a bit, then just say ah eff it and whatever came out of his mouth came out.
He did say Mo-too-poo-koo once.
Yeah but I'm still curious about this "one player got into an argument with another and broke a bottle over his head" rumor that was posted a couple weeks ago.
One thing I don't worry about at VT: Defensive Backs. We always figure it out. We got plenty of bodies.
{Although I'm freaking out about out DT's, current and recruiting.}
One thing I'm not going to worry about anymore at VT: Quarterbacks. Fuente knows what he's doing.
{But, on the other hand, running backs.....}
I'm not so sure its the "bodies" (or the talent of said bodies at that), that should concern anyone... I think its all scheme related. Whenever we see busted coverages in the secondary its almost always related to players not doing their job rather than the talent that is on the field.
ITT: people being reasonable and realistic about how this turn of events will hamper our potential for success this upcoming season, some of whom will then proceed to lose their goddam minds in the live game threads when we actually lose because of shortcomings in the defensive secondary.
Especially if it's GagTech.
Meanwhile, some underclassman on the roster is about to be all like:
Is that fuckin Jesse Pinkman?
It is, and that guy does fuck.
The bad news is this is obviously one of our most thin spots.
The good news is the AA problem is solved now instead of having to deal with it in the middle of the season when something was bound to come up. Also, we have had some good luck with true freshman at the CB spot over the years. Chancellor sticks out. Of course he ended up being an all time great but he was a two star QB prospect that ended up playing safety but he played very well at corner his freshman year. Kendall played well and he was obviously highly touted, but Kyle played well as a tr Freshman too and he was just a three star.
This is definitely no guarantee that we will find somebody but there is precedence for us getting lucky and being able to deal with this. Not to mention we can move some guys around etc.
Kyle Fuller had some growing pains during his freshman year, actually. 2010 ACC Championship game comes to mind...
He did, no doubt, but he didn't play bad throughout the year. We won the ACC was really my point.
This is honestly kind of how I feel about it. With AA's past, it always felt like we were waiting to see if/when he was going to be hitting the road.
For those of you who don't Twitter...looks like the below statement was tweeted out by his now agent.
I love how truth is downvoted.
Take out the "cures cancer" and it's a great post. There hasn't been enough research to make that claim.
Nothing to see here.
Can you post some references?
Very mature statement
Yes, his agent puts together good copy.
So now Mook and Devon can start. I'd like to see Devon Hunter at whip, Mook and Farley at CB, Floyd and Deablo at safety. Crossen backs up Hunter, Waller/Watts is the 3rd CB, and Ladler is the 3rd safety. We can start with that and develop depth from there. =)
I know Mook started before but now he and Hunter can be on the field at the same time because both are beasts.
I think you are pretty spot on. I'm thinking during the spring when they moved Hunter to whip that they were already putting plans in place in case AA wasn't on the team. I said from the beginning that I thought Farley could be a lock down corner with how fluid his hips are, I know he is young but the potential is there.
And the hips don't lie...
Is this the thread where i argue how bud should be the head coach?
Careful....I got the smackdown when I got into this subject....TKP is full on Fuente
We're full on not posting "Bud for head coach" in random threads.
Especially threads with a recruit's name, that might be read by said recruit.
i'm totally calm /S
How do we feel about Crossen, Waller, and Connor?
Crossen and Waller enrolled early. Can any of them start as true freshman?
Diablo, Hunter, Reynolds, and Floyd are also all still there in the secondary. We just will be super thin at DB.
Logged in for the first time in a couple days to catch up.
At least I learned something today.
Official cause of death: asphyxiation.
Somehow I don't think my wife will buy this argument.
Or worse, she'll want to test the claim.
At first I read that as "giving birth to a 160 lb kid" and just curled up in the fetal position.
Are there any transfers, Juco or Prep corners left? I was looking at 247 and nothing seems available this late. We do have a lot of guys on our roster who are DBs but are any of them capable of playing corner outside of Mook?
I saw something earlier about a Notre Dame graduate transfer, but you had to pay to see it. So I googled grad transfers from ND and there was a Cornerback that had gotten interest from nebraska. But in the title of the article it said Virginia tech has mutual interest with notre Dame transfer.
Remember in 2013 when Kyle Fuller and Antoine Exum both got hurt at some point during the year and we relied on 2 freshman CB's to start in their place? Yes one was a 5* in Kendal Fuller but the other was a 3* in Brandon Facyson. Facyson had the better year statistically. Bud has been down a similar path before and in Bud I trust.
This ^ let's not freak out before we need to. Let's just enjoy some Hokie football. In Bud I always trust.
Yeah, no need to go into complete panic mode here. Bud has seen it all before, and has figured out how to right the ship. We have a lot of young talent in the defensive backfield, and this will be a way to get them on the field sooner vs. later, thus setting us up to be a better overall defense down the road.
Bud may get a pass, but I don't think he'll need one. I'm a little more worried about the Galen Scott departure and that effect on our defense. Bud and his assistants will find a way to make our secondary respectable, if not outstanding. IN BUD I TRUST!
Is anyone else hearing a big rumor about another player being dismissed from team? Yikes.
Source?
I received a text from a friend that was told by a player.
Also,
https://twitter.com/AndyBitterVT/status/1004519786976546816?s=19
I don't understand Randy, why you would put that up on Twitter and in here if you
By posting this in both places, you have caused more concern. Why not let it play out and we would all know in due time.
I am curious if anyone with connections has heard of it to substantiate it. I asked Bitter on twitter to pick his brain.
Ok this rumor is blowing up right now and it's scary. I'm hearing a lot of "JJ", "plagerism", and "kicked out." I really hope this is just some internet BS but supposedly there is supposed to be some kind of announcement tomorrow.
Edit: Some are pushing back and saying it's not JJ though so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I woke up to too much chatter going on for it not to be about Jackson. But like you said, we'll wait to see what facts come out.
Ya know, you started some of the chatter.
The first I saw of this were your tweets and mention here and someone on the Sabre site, and one person on TSL.
All unconfirmed and possibly the same source. I'm not saying it's not true, but I don't like how it came out without confirmation.
Can we get a link to the blow up. All I see is the Bitter discussion above.
On TSL people are grasping at straws "maybe somone heard TJ Jackson and misreported it as Josh Jackson" "Maybe it's another QB, not JJ" "maybe you shouldn't spread rumors like this even if you think you know them to be true."
Maybe everyone should calm the hell down and wait for an official announcement? You're not off the team til you're off officially anyway, so what do you get by "knowing" it first? Get another hobby for the off season and read the news to get your news, not message boards.
yeah I agree. there is SOMETHING big going down but only people that know at this point are the people it is directly effecting. I think with all the bad news a lot of us are grasping at those straws being thrown in like geeeezzzzzeeeeeee what not and just expecting the worse. I expect an official word later today. I know someone is being dismissed but i cant confirm who and honestly i don't want to going poking around with my people to try and do so, im not a report so i just look like a D-Bag asking "hey did so and so get kicked off the team" even if it is true.
after I heard the rumor I checked on here all night and first thing this am to see if anyone had posted anything more than just that its a rumor about JJ and as of yet NOTHING but the samething I already know. hoping it stays that way. but looks like if that's the case a lot of folks will get their wish and have a new starting QB to blame everything on next season.
Well, crap. I hope this isn't true. I was really hoping that JJ would hold down that spot and Hooker or Patterson could take over next year. I don't think I want either of them taking starting snaps against FSU.
A rumor about JJ getting dismissed from school for plagiarism sounds like some bullshit dreamt up by a dickhead on Twitter.
Edit: Guess I'll walk this back pending an official announcement.
CC on TSL has sauces saying it's not JJ. There may be some academic issues with one or two other players, but somebody got mixed up and thought it was JJ. It's not.
I guess at this point we should just be happy we're not MSU, amirite?
I guess at this point
weHank Beamer should just be happy we're not MSU, amirite?I can promise you all that the JJ thing is not just a cooked up rumor... whatever happens, who knows... but this is not just something made up, I've been waiting for a couple weeks to see when it would hit the boards...
This offseason:
ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY ITS COLEMAN FOX?!!!
C'MON!! #LetTheFoxRun
/s/s/s/s/s/s/s
urughh we need some good news this offseason.
I thought he was saying that in this off-season, Delaware even stole our motto.
or... that's where whoever did whatever they did will end up playing after kicked from the team THUS being a totally accurate appropriation
genius
