Tayvion Robinson spoke with reporters after he made his announcement in favor of Virginia Tech on Sunday.
Tayvion Robinson Reveals He's A Hokie
Cox standout Tayvion Robinson commits to Virginia Tech
Indeed, he was a silent commitment, and for quite some time actually.
"I've actually been silently committed for a while. So it may seem like they committed before me, but really I committed before them," Robinson also revealed. "I talked to Coach Fuente and told him that it's where I want to be and it's a place I want to come to, but that I would keep it silent until I made it public."
Slot receiver is his initial role, but that could grow in scope throughout his career.
"With them it's receiver, specifically slot right now, but eventually I think I'm going to have to learn every spot at wide receiver – outside, inside, left, right. There's talk about me playing defense, but I'm not sure how serious that's going to be," stated Robinson, eager to prove his worth.
"I feel that I'm just a playmaker. I've got the big-play ability, can get the ball in open space, make moves and be dynamic. That's what I'm planning to bring to Virginia Tech."
Robinson provided insight on his decision to pick the Hokies over his finalists.
"They've been my choice for awhile ... They had everything that I was looking for fan base, coaches, stadium," said Robinson, who chose the Hokies over Maryland, Nebraska, Ohio State, South Carolina and Virginia. "It felt like the perfect place."

So was he one of the silent commitments?
lol
Sounds like a great kid who could fit in at any number of positions of need for us. Glad he is a Hokie!
Please tell me that weird superfan guy didn't show up to his announcement on his front porch...
Must have run out of hair space or was just hanging out in the backyard.
I'll bet one of our resident techno-geeks could photoshop him in if it would make you feel better
It would not.
I tee 'em up....
He was in their living room with his feet up on the couch helping himself to a commitment beer
Why else do you think he delayed his announcement?
All these kids saying "my next 3-4 years" these boys ambitious I like it
We are lowkey loading up on excellent players. The kind of depth we are developing should really start paying off in a year or two. Offensively, we look to be creating a bit of a monster.
Nobody wants to Marshall no more, they want Shady, I'm chopped liver.
I remember wondering what the hell he was trippin' on for that game. Even his responses to questions were barely coherent.
2018: Tre Turner, James Mitchell, Darryle Simmons, DeJuan Ellis (qb? or cb?)
2019: Jaden Payoute, Tayvion Robinson, Elijah Bowick
I would love to add Jacoby Pinckney, his tape looks incredible to me... Regardless of whether or not we get him we have definitely landed a lot of talent at wr in the last two classes.
The potential is sky high for this offense in 2-3 years. If an elite RB wants the chance to put up massive numbers as part of an explosive offense, the pieces are in place.
Hmmm...if only there were an elite RB out there. We are definitely afFORDing them a chance at being a star.
This is cool & everything. One caveat, I feel like this is phrased almost EVERY season & bad shit happens to off-set it. So please forgive me for instinctively rolling my eyes everytime I read or hear a phrase along these lines. To conclude, it's absolutely kick-ass Tayvion is staying home (gotta end with something positive).
While I sort of agree, I'm a little more optimistic with the last two cycles (18, 19). We're seemingly doing more than getting a few good guys and putting bodies in the rest of the depth chart. This allows for the inevitable things to go wrong and have less of an overall impact
Exactly. The last few cycles were "wow wait til CJF gets his guys into this system". Then you hear about how FuCorn would like to roll 8 deep at WR and you can only name 6 WRs off the top of your head, and two are redshirting. With the most recent and this upcoming class, it's becoming clear that not only are we getting bringing in better players at the skill positions, we're bringing in enough so that the attrition that inevitably happens for whatever reason is less damaging to the depth as a whole.
I legged all the comments in reply, but I'll reply to this one because its so spot on. In the past, recruiting was all about getting players at locations of need. We would get a great guy in a location and mentally figured we had that position sewn up for at least 2-3 years. This led to us having pretty good talent across the board, but we were so thin that one injury fuxed us good.
But now, it just feels different. Its not that we're just bringing in better players, but we're double and triple dipping in certain areas with legitimate high talent that we're quietly growing a deep core of players that should allow us to weather injury bugs down the line.
Well, here's hoping.
I agree with you but I think we are now hitting the tipping point where we will legit be 8 deep at WR, 5 deep at TE, 3 deep at QB/LB/S. If we can shore up the quality RB and DT depth, we are approaching the point where that "bad shit" you refer to will still allow us to put a quality team on the field. The past 5-6 years, we have had sporadic depth at some positions, but even that depth was only like like 2 deep.
All that depth...
This is both funny & disgusting
...so now we can run the table and win a championship with our 3rd string QB at the helm with all these playmakers!
I like it
Wait. Does this mean we're 8 deep at QB/TE?
Anyone else concerned he hinted that he wouldn't put pen to paper until February?
I would suspect that Coach will have a discussion with all the recruits about the importance of the December signing date just like last year.
Love this kid! Reminds me a lot of Greg Stroman, but with even more enchanced cutting capability! Awesome addition to the good guys!!!
