Kam Chancellor has announced his retirement via Twitter. Sorry guys not sure how to embed tweet but thought this was important enough for its own thread since Bam Bam was one of our favorites.
He has cited his recent season ending neck injury as the primary reason for his retirement.

Damn shame the injury cut his career short. I don't care if Hokie blood makes me biased, he was the best damn safety in the game. Good luck, Kam. Shine that SB Ring up and enjoy life.

He came a long way. He started camp out as a Scout Team QB and looked like a deer in headlights against the first team defense. Got moved to corner his second day in camp and the rest is history. He definitely earned everything he has.
This ^. Kam was/is the type of football player you love to root for because he was willing to play almost anywhere bc he loved the game. Too many players today get worked up if they can't play their position of choice when they transition to college or even to the pros. Kam just wanted to play where he was best and most effective.
Probably one of the last true diamonds in the rough that we may ever see now that recruiting has evolved to the point where there really isn't anywhere for a recruit to hide.

Technically he is not retiring, he is just never going to be medically cleared to play again. He is still going to get paid, but he can't officially retire.

I was thinking about this as well. He was the highest paid safety for a few years, he was a game changer and truly did some incredible things, but I don't think the numbers are going to be there
Kam is another great example of the opportunity that VT provides players/prospects. Despite his physical gifts, he came to VT as a 3-star recruit with no true position, and he shaped his body and his game to become a top 50 NFL player over the past 6-7 years. 4 Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl ring, not bad.
And it would have been two super bowl rings if Pete Carroll would have trusted Marshawn Lynch from the two yard line.
