OT: Hokies Have a Good night in NFL Pre-season

Check out the Link here

This is a picture article from last night so not much information to share. But among the highlights:

Washington Redskins defensive lineman Tim Settle dives on a fumble against the New England Patriots.

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Isaiah Ford reacts to scoring his first professional touchdown.

I saw Tyrod's touchdown for Cleveland, pretty good night I would say

The Browns wasted the 1st overall pick. Why draft a QB 1st when you have a quality starter in Tyrod already on your roster??

I'm just pissed at the Browns for not taking Barkley. They could've played it to where they got both Barkley and Baker.

Now the NFC East has to deal with that kid year in and year out. Fucking Browns, man.

I think they just picked up Tyrod's last year. I'm certain they want to press forward with Baker, but want him to sit under Tyrod for a year. This is definitely Tyrod's year to shine though. Wonder where he'll end up next year.

As a Giants fan, I'm extremely happy that the Browns passed on Barkley.

Because Tyrod is not the answer for Cleveland over then next 10 years and there is no guarantee Tyrod re-signs with the team after the one year left on his contract is up. So the Browns had to move on an option for the long term and this was a QB heavy draft. As a Browns fan, I would have rather seen them plan on Tyrod for at least 3 years, and build up the rest of the team and draft the QB of the future (looking at Jake Fromm) in two years so he could sit one behind 32 year old Tyrod. The problem with this strategy is that if Tyrod turns the Browns around, they won't be in a position to draft the QB of the future when they need to.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

...if Tyrod turns the Browns around, they won't be in a position to draft the QB of the future...

This.

Also (taking off the orange and maroon glasses), Mayfield is seen as having a higher ceiling than Tyrod. Tyrod is seen as more of a game manager that takes care of the ball, but not the dynamic passer that most teams are looking for. If anything, he's a bit conservative, as I've seen articles about completions being left on the table, given that there were open shots that most QBs would be able to hit. That may be exactly what the Browns need right now (they were worst in the league in turnovers last year), but it's not necessarily what they will need a few years from now.

Given Tyrod's leadership abilities (first-in, last-out, hard-working lead by example type), it wouldn't surprise me if next year, Tyrod is signed by another team looking to draft a QB. If he's able to play well enough to keep Mayfield on the bench most of the year, there will be teams looking for that ability to help groom a quarterback of the future by setting the example of what a QB needs to do off the field, while playing well enough to keep a team winning. It may not be the long-term starting deal that Tyrod wants, but at $15 million a year, it's not really a bad gig.

Tyrod=good luck chuck?

Hah, yeah... about that

Listening to Golic & Wingo on the way to work today, they had a beat writer for the Browns on, and... While they were saying it was nice to see Tyrod play well, the overall message was "at least this shows that, if Tyrod has a good year, they can wait a few games before they make Mayfield the starter"

It really doesn't matter how well Tyrod plays, the plan in Cleveland doesn't include him beyond the first couple games this year.

And they made no mention of Tyrod in the game recap, all about Barkley and that Mayfield threw 2 touchdowns.

Seeing Tremaine still wearing 49, and Settle rocking the 97, and especially Stro repping the 25? Pretty special if you're a Hokie fan.

I also noticed that Wyatt is wearing 75 (his old 57, reversed) and Motu is wearing 45 (his old 54, also reversed).

I see you, Techmen.

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

Also, Terrell is repping the state by wearing 34 for his hometown area code 434.

Stroman looked good, and was the first punt returner. Hope he sticks to the roster alongside AA.

Chick Patty w/ Cheese

Annnnnnddd that would be a very "Browns" thing to do...screw whatever good they have going on.

I see Terrelle Edmunds had 3 tackles last night, but otherwise I haven't seen any news about him. May be a good thing? Anyone catch the Squeelers game and can give their two cents?

When did chuck Clark change his last name to Canady?

CHUCK CLARK - BALTIMORE RAVENS

Baltimore Ravens defensive back Chuck Clark celebrates after recording an interception.

Ha I thought the same thing

Is it really that hard to confirm it's the right guy? Sadly Espn has Canady getting the INT on their website.

CJ Reavis had a solid game as well. He's always a Hokie in my mind.

I'm confused by the Redskins Box Score, I thought they drafted Big Tim as a punt return specialist, not Stro. They must not want to risk injury in preseason and will let him loose Game 1.
