These polls have just gotten so biased it is ridiculous. I have zero issue with VT at 19. But to have A&M jump Louisville after almost losing to Ole Miss? Georgia still in the top 15 with TWO losses, and the overtime win over Tennessee? LSU at #6 with a loss to Georgia, when their signature win is over the same team that Miami also beat, yet is only at #10? No doubt the loser of Clemson vs Florida State will drop out of the top 10, because obviously any one loss SEC team is better than an ACC team with a loss to a top 5 undefeated ACC team. The polls are just comical these days.

The bias will be there but the ACC is doing their part. 3 teams in the top 10 now and we are climbing. Until the SEC gets stomped out of conference they will stay there. Unfortunately they only schools they play out of conference are ACC teams so we have to turn up the heat on them. Clemson could beat 2 SEC teams and UF could lose to 2 different ACC teams this year.

You are correct, the polls are so stinking $EC-biased that you can only shake your head. Missouri should be ranked ahead of the one-loss teams, but they get no respect as an "establishment team" even though they are in the $EC. aTm is way over-rated for their body of work, Georgia should be down in the 20's after losing at home, and I could go on, but it is what it is. Until another conference rises up and knocks the $EC off their perch as the darlings of E$ECPN, nothing is going to change.

I don't see how aTm is overrated. They are a power conference team who's only loss is to the no. 1 team in the country. Sure they have struggled against some inferior competition but they keep winning. Can't think of another team in the country you could say that about.
Sarcasm.

I think VT matches up much better with Alabama than with aTm. Freakishly athletic quarterbacks are the kryptonite of Foster's D. Furthermore, average defenses are holding VT to ~22 points at Lane stadium, ~16 on the road. If you think Foster's D can hold aTm to less than 3 TDs, I applaud your belief in Fosterball. However, I just don't see that happening. aTm scored 6 TDs on Alabama. Do you really think VT can hold them to 3 TDs?

Johnny football is the best in the game at buying his receivers more time. Foster's high pressure coverages would be more likely to break down against AandM. Probably see more big plays.

VT vs aTm would be a good game. Strength against strength. And after seeing aTm underwhelm against Arkansas and Ole Miss, I think we would have a decent shot of pulling the "upset". Regardless, it's a given that any team in the $EC is going to get more style points for a win in conference, even a close one against $EC bottom-dwellers, than teams in other conferences will earn for beating their conference foes. Thus 2-loss Georgia with all their injuries is still #15, and 1-loss aTm is ahead of other teams without losses. Yes, I know, Alabama, but aTm has no wins against ranked teams, unlike Missouri, Miami, UCLA and Texas Tech. Polls make no sense, it's all a beauty contest, that's why I have always wanted an 8 or 16 team playoff for the FBS. 4 > 2 for now, I suppose.

I think we have the defense to deal with everyone on that roster except the receiver. Kyle at whip to deal with the running QB threat. But that real big receiver would be a problem. I think, though, that with their defense, we could hold onto the ball.

UGA has lost to two undefeated teams, so they're fine where they are. However, I do think UGA and Mizzou will fall as they will not be able to keep winning with their injuries. LSU's only loss is to a good UGA team, so that's fine to stay where they are.
I will not claim SEC bias until I see what happens with the FSU and Clemson game. If the loser falls out of the top 10, and/or behind USC, then I will proclaim S-E-C-nanigans.

Man I don't know how you can call this a down year for college football. I am seeing incredible QB play all over the place, tightly contested games, and flummoxed coaches going ape-shit at press conferences (see the Mad Hatter) - I am loving this season. Besides we finally have some poll love for the ACC. The SEC will work itself out - it always does. Those guys will beat each other up. There's quite a bit of football left to play.

Without a doubt. Not to mention PLENTY of teams play each other in the next few weeks. There is gonna be a lot of movement soon. I could even easily see us ranked maybe 15 when we come off our bye and play duke.

I don't see how we jump 4 spots by not playing, unless everyone else decided to simultaneously implode. I suspect we only crack the top-15 if we win out through Miami. Finish the season undefeated in the ACC and maybe we're talking top-10, but there's a lot that has to happen for all that to come true.

Every year it seems we have the same debates over our own ranking. We're our own worst critics. If we watched half of the other top-25 teams and painstakingly obsessed over them like we do our own, I am sure we all would feel better about our "deserved" spot in the polls no matter how potent our offense is.
Michigan anyone?

Looking at the ACC Facebook page, it's nice to see all the Noles, Canes, and Tigers patting themselves and each other on the back for being in the Top-10. In a few weeks, we'll shake things up on our mission to reclaim the ACC.
Interesting that the Colley Matrix has FSU and Clemson at #1 and #2. Most of the computers have Oregon relatively low, but I imagine that will change as the season progresses and competition gets better.

I love the Colley Matrix, it's just based off of if you win and there's no preseason bias. If you play 3 shitty teams that win 2 games and you win out it really hurts you unless you beat a bunch of teams that beat a lot of teams.

On the Harris poll, our win/loss info is wrong. Swapped with OSU?
Virginia Tech Hokies
Overall: (6-1)

10/05 lost to Stanford 28-31
10/12 lost to Oregon 24-45

I was referring to Oregon. They still have to play UCLA and Stanford, who are still top-15 teams at the moment. Thus far, Oregon really hasn't played anyone except Washington, who has lost a couple in a row now. FSU and Clemson have tough schedules with a couple ranked teams (including each other), but it will be interesting to see if Oregon can really continue the tear they're on against better competition.

With this big game Saturday, I can't help but think of 2005; #5 Miami @ #3 VT... RIP Clemson. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that's the last time the ACC had two Top-5 teams square-off.

The complete poll is here for anyone who is interested: http://collegefootball.ap.org/poll.
I can deal with that
thats pretty awesome but i'm not sure we're the 19th best team in the nation. if we played florida it might be a 6-4 grinder.
Maybe, but a 6-4 grinder in which UF will be using their 3rd/4th string QB by the end.
Don't care about no rankings. Just Ws. Just f*kin win, baby!

You could say that about Virginia Tech.
You could but i think we can all agree Tech playing aTm wouldnt be a good time
Dunno about that. Their defense is average at best (and I'm being kind here) and I would love to see their receivers lined up against our secondary.
Yeah, they would probably be favored, but I can't see us getting colonoscopied like we did against Bama.

Seems about right. 7 straight games, including one on a short week, 6 wins against a myriad of offenses.
I have a sneaky suspicion that there's gonna be another elimination week, so to speak, before the season ends.
Just hoping we can weather that storm when it comes.
Without a doubt. Not to mention PLENTY of teams play each other in the next few weeks. There is gonna be a lot of movement soon. I could even easily see us ranked maybe 15 when we come off our bye and play duke.

A lot of the teams ahead of us play one another. I'm not saying it's a definite, but we will at least jump a spot or two.

For those interested, the current projected BCS has us at #18. Apparently several of the computers are giving us some love:

Not even. Pretty much everything on CBS' Harris site is totally screwed.
Is Oregon's competition going to get better? Or are you referring to FSU & Clemson?

why you got to say things like that?
It was the last time from my understanding (per Teel). The only other top 5 matchup in the post-expansion era (2004) was #5 Miami vs #4 FSU in 2004.
because Clemson can go F(&* itself, that's why!
I could care less about polls. they don't mean diddly right now. At the end of the year, maybe. Not now.
What makes me happy is that I think the team could care less about our ranking this year. They are out to prove something. You can't teach that.
