Virginia Tech nabbed its first verbal commitment of the 2020 cycle Friday afternoon. Atlee HS quarterback Tyler Warren committed to the Hokies per the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
[Warren] also had offers from Syracuse and Virginia. Because of his size and athleticism, some colleges liked him better at other positions. While Virginia Tech and Syracuse offered him as a quarterback, Virginia offered him as a tight end or defensive player, Warren said.
Tech offered last October and Justin Fuente had the opportunity to evaluate Warren in person at the Randolph-Macon College camp.
The 6-5, 210 pound southpaw's numbers represent those of an unpolished dual-threat signal caller.
Warren threw for 891 yards in nine games last year. He completed 79 of 166 passes for 7 touchdowns and 9 interceptions.
He also rushed for 80 yards per game.
As of now, Warren is unranked by the major recruiting services. Then again, the Hokies extended the offer early and watched him workout in person.

So he's "offered" 🤞🏼 as QB? But recruited by others schools as a TE?
Bucky Hodges and Chris Durkin are on line 1.
I guess you're telling me he's gonna play TE.
I have Greg Booooone, Kam Chancellor, Travon McMillian and Carliss Parker one lines 1, 2, 3 and 4.
They need some help on Defense.
Now that is what I call finding the positive! Oh wait...
There is a long way to go. He is just the first guy.
Well he goes to Atlee and you can spit on Hanover HS from there. And we all know who came from Hanover.
I DARE YOU TO SPIT

That kid looks better built for the wrestling mat than he does the basketball court.
That kid was a pretty darn good fullback.
"That kid"?!? You go to be kidding!
You must be reaaaaalllllly new around here.
That kid?
Wonder what ever happened to the Atlee kid?
He apparently was reported dead shortly after this picture was taken. He was described as "delicious" by the last person who saw him.
Have we ever had any football players from Patrick Henry?
There's probably more than one Patrick Henry High School in Virginia. If you're asking about PH in Roanoke, David Prince is the only player to come to my mind. He was on the team not too long ago.
I'm guessing he was referring to PH in Ashland (just up the road from Hanover and Atlee).
Yup
My alma mater! Kaleb Smith is a current WR and went to PH
Gotcha, thanks . I was shocked to see some Freeman products on the roster, recently. For the longest time, DSF was a 6-4 Team, at best
Yeah Godwin had some D1 products for awhile and I know we've had lot from Hermitage come through but Freeman has been mediocre unfortunately
The great Keith Short.
For anybody worried about those passing numbers, he was injured for a large part of last season
I'll be watching this guy play with special interest since we just arrived in the area and my oldest daughter will be attending Atlee. Will give some follow up on how this young man runs and spins the rock once we have seen a few games.
Welcome back sir!
Thank you FB, just here for a season, back to Peru in February. At least we don't have to use a VPN to fool E$PN into thinking we are living in the States this year. Might even make it to a Hokie game if we can find some tix. Just visited campus last week and loved all the new buildings, especially the replacements for the ancient cadet dorms where the wife and I first met long ago. Felt very proud to show off the campus to our kiddos.
Sure hope this football season is special and we shock the world by winning the ACC and making the playoffs for the first time. Anything can happen, right? Just ask UMBC and loluva.
I'm in Japan and I know all about the VPN life. At least you don't have to wake up in the middle of the night to watch the Hokies!
I feel your pain!
Where in Japan you at? I was just in Kobe and Osaka.
I've been in Okinawa for about 3 years now. Came here as a contractor doing real property management and decided to stay here and teach English once that contract expired.
I just moved to Africa a couple weeks ago... what is the best way to watch the games? Buy a VPN and stream ESPN?
ESPN ?? hahahaha.... oh you're serious. Well, I heard from a friend that there are lots of online streaming sites that have live sports. And that some people on here will help out in gameday threads if people can't find a game. But that you can just google or duckduckgo search for those sites. You could probably search for some now to try to find nfl preseason games to practice on some of the sites. or at least, that's what I heard... from a friend. *wink * wink*
You're issue, depending on where in Africa you are, is gonna be spe...eee....eee....eee.....ddd. Many places in Africa have spotty at best connection rates.
I follow a guy on Instagram who livestreams all of the redskins games. If anyone wants to volunteer this great service to the Virginia Tech football fan community, I'm sure it would be greatly appreciated...
If you have internet service with speed, then I have found StrongVPN to be a satisfactory VPN provider. I have also used some of the European websites that Fernley alludes to which are free but very buggy so you need good antivirus software.
I pay about $5.00 a month for unblock-us.com's VPN service and I watch the games via watchespn after they've finished and have been posted for replay view. This isn't a big deal since the noon/mid-afternoon games air while I'm asleep, and I can wake up Sunday morning and watch the replay to start my day. The FSU game will start at 9:00am Sunday morning local time, so I'm planning to go fishing to distract myself until early afternoon when the game should be concluded. Games that ESPN don't post are another story. I won't trust most streaming websites, and in the past I've had to wait a couple of days until "hokietapes" posts the entire game on YouTube.
Who?
