Just moved to Morgantown...

My wife and I just moved to Morgantown from Blacksburg (I know, I know, why?). We were wondering if there was a contingent of hokies getting together for the game this Monday night?

my exact comment when I read the title: "Oh my god, I'm so sorry"

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

If you want to make the 3 hour trek to Huntington on a Monday night, I'm having a little house party for the game.

No game day info, but ....
The apothecary has a good selection of craft beers, the owners are really nice and don't really care for wvu. It's a townie bar so no students. Oliverio's is a really good Italian restuarant, however the original in Bridgeport is better if you can tolerate the 40 minute drive down I79. That area of WV has a ton of Italians and a lot of the restaurants have recipes pasted down for 80+ years. If you dont know what pepperoni rolls are then imagine pepperoni in a roll and it's delicious. you can but them in the stores, they were the uncrustables of my childhood. Again 40 minute drive, you can get them fresh off the line I Clarksburg.

Sorry about the traffic, it sucks and I now live in NoVa

This is how my wife described them when I introduced her to them.

Can confirm: The apothecary is great! We will definitely be eating plenty of italian food as well. My wife is italian so maybe there's some sort of calling to this part of WV?

Thanks for the tip!

Let's GO!!!!!!!...

The Italian heritage festival is this weekend in Clarksburg (30-40 min. south on I79). The block off main street so you can eat and drink in the streets. The entertainment is free. I'm not Italian so I never really cared about the heritage and was too young to drink.

Leg for Oliverio's and pepperoni rolls!

I'm from WV. No love for Morgantown here but overall it's not so bad.

EDIT: oh and kinda related (though I don't think it's the same "Oliverio"), get yourself a jar of this stuff https://www.oliveriopeppers.us/, put it on your cheesesteaks next time you make them (or anything else that would be tasty with peppers in sauce). I almost guarantee you'll love it.

Sounds like you grew up near me if you know Oliverio's. I didn't grow up in Morgantown but there are some nice things about Morgantown, though city design is not one of them. However, Morgantown is bigger than just WVU. There are a lot of jobs that don't have anything to do with WVU or the students. They have some fancier restaurants like Stefano's or Table 9 that Blacksburg lacked when I was in school. Not an issue when in school, however post college these are nice places to have for dating or anniversaries. There are more townie bars, the apothecary is just one of them.

Yeah I grew up in Barbour County, so I got most of your references. My older brother did go to WVU, but that was a while ago and I haven't spent any major amount of time in Morgantown since then.

Yup, next county over (harrison). I used to swim against Phillippi in the summer's. I have two good friends living in Morgantown so I know just enough to be dangerous.

It's the same oliverio's for the peppers. Also you can buy Minards meatballs and sauce in the stores too.

I'd play it safe and head to Pittsburgh. It's worth the 1.5 hour drive.

One of my best friends and his wife live there. He spent one summer semester at Tech, so claims to be a Hokie despite graduating from Wooster. He rocks a VT sweatshirt on occasion around town. Doubt he will be watching the game anywhere other than his couch. If you see anyone wearing the maroon sweatshirt though, be sure to ask if they drank any rails and decided to tackle trash cans in Blacksburg.

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

On second thought, I may have been wrong. Not everyone tackles trashcans. I had a friend fight a bush once because "it was talking shit about his mother" after a few rails.

I tackled a small tree after a rail. It...did not go well.

Here's another survival tip:
Buy one of these shirts. You'll get to make fun of them without them truly realizing. This will give a warm sense of being on the inside, and a good chuckle.

It's actually not so bad....The city council is great entertainment (as long as you don't live in town), and we have a long-term lease on Lane Stadium North.

Speaking of enemy territory, I was at LOLUVA for a GIS workshop today. I had to deal with getting roasted because someone from VT was responsible for a cartographic monstrosity on the DMV website that was used during the presentation.

I'm so sorry you got roasted. I'm embarrassed for all involved. I'm curious though. I'd like to see the website.

I'll email you.

Tell em it was a Hokie that designed the road that leads to that gawd-awful place where smuttiness exudes.

I'd actually probably flip UVA to bad (they are) and WVU to ugly (meth and benzos are a hell of a combination).

"My advice to you... is to start drinking heavily."-John Blutarsky

Survived three years of high school there. Cant say there is a good Hokie home there but if you are looking for a fun environment to watch in The Varsity is a good one. Food at Keglers is pretty good, atmosphere a bit cheesy but its attached to a bowling alley so you can double down. Primanti Brothers is another good one for food. Roosters is another good spot to watch a game.
