itll actually give you a full day of good TV watching start your day with hokies hoops and bourbon, Washington and UCF sugar bowl, and by 8 oclock youll be gearing up for Clemson vs uga rose bowl!

Sugar also can't take an at-large ACC team, it's SEC vs. Big 12 unless it's a semifinal. Just like how (unless it's a semifinal) the Orange Bowl always takes an ACC team (even if the champion is in a semifinal) and pits them against the best available team from the SEC, Big Ten, on Notre Dame after the CFP, Rose, Sugar, and respective conference champions have been placed.
Side note, I think even in a case where the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl are the semifinals, and the Big Ten and SEC champions miss the playoff, the Big Ten and SEC champions will be slotted in one or two of the Fiesta, Cotton, and Peach Bowls, before the Orange Bowl gets to make their selection.

For the first time Buzz's tenure, he gets a very favorable ACC schedule.
There's no marquee home game over winter break (2016: UVA, 2017: Duke, 2018: UVA).
Notre Dame, Miami, UVA, and Georgia Tech aren't a bad group of home-and-homes, considering the rest of the conference.
UNC's on the road, but they get Duke, Louisville, and Syracuse as one offs in Blacksburg.
With the only real non-conference tests being Penn State, Washington, and whoever they get in Charleston (probably Alabama and either Purdue or Wichita State), things could play out very well for the Hokies this season.

Considering that last year's rotating home-and-home slots were Duke and Louisville, Notre Dame and Georgia Tech feels like a breeze. (Miami and UVA are our "permanent home-and-homes")
And besides Syracuse being our only good home game ona Saturday, I gotta say the scene schedule feels pretty good overall.

Every year I look for their name on the schedule and I just don't understand why we don't schedule them. It's not just VCU too, I wish we played some of the better RPI state schools too... Richmond, ODU, and Mason have a much greater chance of helping our RPI than NC A&T, SC State, UMES, Central Connecticut, etc.

Wow, I wasn't sure that Buzz could take a step even farther back with the non-schedule home slate but he managed to do so. Only 1 in the top 200 of the RPI last season.
Central Connecticut(263), Gardner Webb(244), VMI(313), St Francis (PA) (178), South Carolina State(331), NC A&T(238), Maryland Eastern Shore(346)
Those schools final RPI last season in brackets
Holiday Tournament game with Ball State(126)
Penn State (71) and Washington (77)
So essentially outside of the possible opponents in the holiday tournament, every non-schedule game is against opponents that finished after the Hokies in the season ending RPI.

Also, didn't he go on a rant last year about how it's pointless to play VMI and other ultra-high-octane teams? Why are they still on our schedule? Does Buzz make the schedule, or is that something Whit does with little input from Buzz?

I think that specific complaint was in regards to the Citadel, but yes you are right. I think Buzz is friendly with Duggar Baucom, he just hates playing his teams and their style of play. Baucom came from VMI and is now at the Citadel.

That is an awful non-con schedule, got to be among the weakest of the p5 programs.
Seems like a lot riding on the Hokies advancing in the Charleston classic, enough to get some better opponents on the schedule. Potentially could play Alabama if both teams survive their first game, any one of Wichita St/Purdue/Davidson in the final. Could be two more top 50 RPI games if all goes to plan.

Only three Saturday home games, two of which are against Boston College and Wake Forest. Meh.
Conference game on New Year's day? I want to watch the NY6 dammit.
itll actually give you a full day of good TV watching start your day with hokies hoops and bourbon, Washington and UCF sugar bowl, and by 8 oclock youll be gearing up for Clemson vs uga rose bowl!
How is Clemson gonna be in the Rose Bowl when we beat them in the ACC Championship?
that's exactly how. a one loss Clemson team makes the new years 6.
College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic
4 p.m. or 8 p.m. ET on ESPN
AT&T Stadium
Arlington, Texas
College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Capital One Orange Bowl
4 p.m. or 8 p.m. ET on ESPN
Hard Rock Stadium
Miami Gardens, Florida
Ohhhh my joke backfired on me, my bad. I can't keep track of them changing each year.
The Rose Bowl is contractually obligated to take a B1G team and a P12 team in years where it is not a semifinal. Clemson will not play in that game.
For that matter, neither will Georgia.
yeah I had sugar and rose backwards.

I got a headache
I don't think the Rose Bowl can pick an ACC team at large. ACC would go to Fiesta or Chick Fil A.
Edit it's 8:23AM here but sign i'll drink.
You're in my time zone!
Also, add the Cotton Bowl to the list of possible NY6 at-large destinations for the ACC.
Pretty cool announcement video
Points to link that does not lead to schedule. Well done @HokiesMBB.
It's in the scroll at the top of the page.
Oh I know how to navigate the HokieSports site. It's just slightly misleading that it takes me to the press release instead of the schedule page.

No home weekend home games after January 26? That sucks.

I want revenge on Alabama....
It's an atrocious home non conference schedule though. The best home game might be Gardner Webb or VMI
Why are we not scheduling VCU!?!
Every year I look for their name on the schedule and I just don't understand why we don't schedule them. It's not just VCU too, I wish we played some of the better RPI state schools too... That was two seasons ago about Citadel, but you're right.
Edit: Looks like I get to take a trip to the fridge.
Cheers from Sam

VMI is no longer like that.
The schedule is fine. I don't expect to be anywhere near the bubble for it to affect us.

Justin Robinson has a good graphics person
This was possibly the lamest announcement ever
