Tech will be wearing their orange jerseys for the first time this season. White matte helmets and white pants to complete the ensemble.

Thoughts? I'm personally excited to see the orange ones in action. I've been pleasantly surprised with the new jersey's so far this year.

Wouldn't mind the matte finish becoming our normal helmets. I loved the shiny ones with the light sparkle to them back in the day, but these are just badass.
Agreed. They used to just be shiny, then the sparkle crept in...and it was nice at times. But the matte doe...

I approve this uniform combination.
I don't know. hopefully people don't get Tech confused with Cuse or Clemson with the orange jerseys...
/s
I know you're joking, but nobody will be watching anyway, we're playing on CBS Sports Network.
Fresh.
So you don't like orange and just saw the reveal....
He's sitting informally like us! Let's hear what he has to say!
Ugggghhhh!!! Orange!!! Blech!
via GIPHY
From what little I can see these are fucking horrible. We need to just go back to regular old jerseys without all the crap on them. Also get off of my lawn
Um... this is the same style jersey we've worn for every game this season, and will continue to wear for at least a few years.
One step closer to All Orange Everything

I like the ODU game uniforms. But all-orange everything?
via GIPHY
I respect you but I will down vote you for that!
Edit: /s in case it's needed even if AOE makes me wanna say "why bother playing? We just lost."
I used to be with you on the all orange everything, but then we came out wearing it against Duke at home and I got all excited. You could say I had a giant orange boner. But then we lost and I never want us to look like road barrels playing football ever again.
That wasn't AOE
We still had maroon helmets that day, my friend.
Well shit. You're right. Have we ever worn AOE?
Top to bottom orange? Not that I can find, but both the 2013 Duke game and the 1994 UVA game we came out wearing maroon lids, orange tops and bottoms and we lost both games. Badly in the case of the UVA game. At the time of the 1994 UVA game, the only helmet Tech had was maroon with the orange and white stripe so this is officially "all orange".
After the UVA game, Beamer swore then we'd never wear all-orange again.
#NoOrangeAnything
Never go Full Orange.
Since this is highlighted as game 3...I can only assume that game 12 will be the ACCCG!!!!
Attention to detail. nice catch.
Y'all downvote this, but I'm about to speak that dam truth...
#ALLMAROONEVERYTHING is the best uniform combo.
via GIPHY
While I like the AME uniform best, there is room for variation, and as orange is a school color they chose for us to wear it at a game that nobody will be able to watch.

Leg for 'Clockwork Orange'.
I'm glad someone got it, I know I'm showing my age too!
And I am as well.
"I'm singing in the rain (Whack!), I'm singing in the rain (Whack, whack)".
Um shouldn't we look at clockwork orange as something we shouldn't aspire to? Last time I checked things did not pan out for that fella
I love the Orange and white combo. Fresh. Le'ts keep it going.
Mixed feelings.
There are lots of orange teams. Not lots of orange AND maroon teams. Why go out of our way to look like everyone else?
I respect these uniforms, but I will downvote them.
I love a white helmet.
This is THE ONLY WAY WE CAN WEAR ORANGE.
Wait - why aren't we wearing white?
Whiteout for ODU fans. The team will be wearing white.
ODU is doing a White Out for the game, so they'll probably be wearing white jerseys to go along with it.
Yall know why we wear Maroon right? It hides the bloodstains on Bud after he gets on a real warpath and brutalizes his enemies. We wear AME during games where he absolutely shows no mercy.
I don't think ODU has brown pants
I appreciate the WOW (white-orange-white) combo, but I think we could all get behind a MOM combo.
aka the Hokie Rainbow.
Maybe for the ND game. They're striping the stadium for hokie effect as well. Although I'd prefer AME
This is the uniform combo I've been most interested in seeing for years now.
It looked nice in 2009, but I feel like that heartbreaking FG as time expired for a 20-17 loss to UNC ruined the maroon/orange/maroon appeal for a lot of our fans.
It was an Orange Effect Thursday night game just before Halloween (and freezing).
However, I think that specific maroon/orange/maroon combo looked really sharp because those orange jerseys had maroon numbers rather than white numbers like the last 3 orange jerseys have had.
Ah those jerseys (all 3 variants) were so great. Far superior to anything we've worn since, and in my opinion the best VT has ever worn.
They were ok jerseys, better than a lot we've had in the past 5 years, but the fan jersey version of those sucked.
Huh. I have a maroon 34 from those years and it's held up really well. It's the only VT jersey I own so I have nothing to compare it to, but I think it's fine.
I can't find a good image to link to, the best* one I found is NSFW. but the arms on the fan version make it look nothing like what was on the field. It was odd looking.
*Best for multiple reasons
Lol got a link?
(NSFW) Tyrod Jersey
I may have talked it up a bit.
Hahaha, what is it with these things? We were laughing about this (at work) the other day because my co-worker was looking for a car part online and there was a picture of a scantily clad female holding up the part. I mean, that's cool, but it's not going to push me over the hump to purchase a highly specialized auto part for my Ford Pinto.
Damn, forgot about that game. Though I still think that combo looks pretty sharp.
Just for comparison, I wanted to see what maroon/maroon/orange would look like, and, well, I still don't really know. Here's the unibuilder screenshot:
And here's video from the last time we've worn the combo:
I'm down with these, let's make it a thing sometime
YES!
I've been asking for Maroon, Maroon, Orange for a while. I think it'd look sharp.
I need to see these two uni combos this season:

Pretty sure the bottom one would have been last weekend.
I was carving my pumpkin during that game and then kind of wanted to smash it.

I hadn't made that connection but I think you're onto something. I've felt like whether you like the orange or not, the combinations we've been putting out have looked better lately because there's always been plenty of white involved, white pants, helmets, white jersey separating orange pants and maroon helmets, but I see what you're saying with the maroon numbers, that all does go together better.
Leg for being "artisanal" n' shit with your pumpkin...
People that care if we won or lost in a certain color way should take their superstitions and watch baseball instead
I agree.
I mean, OBVIOUSLY what really has an affect on if we win or lose is whether I'm wearing my lucky socks and jersey and if i'm drinking the correct beer that day out of my VT cup.
I'm not superstitious about anything, but football. For instance, when I got home from the FSU game I found a penny in my pocket. Mind you I never carry cash.
You better bet that penny will be with me the rest of the season.Edit: I'M MELTING THE GODDAMNED PENNY!!!
Yeah, football is the only thing I am superstitious about too. When I am watching at home, and either the Hokies or my Boys are playing, I get very antsy. I may or may not watch the game with a pillow on my head if things are getting crazy and the game is not at a comfortable winning spot...
Pics
love the edit
I was there too. At first I didnt remember it being cold, but then I remembered (sort of...) that I definitely do not remember feeling much of anything (especially my face) except heartache....
That game hurt.
I was also there. It sucked. Though, my dad invited our pastor to go to the game with us, and I was shocked when he joined in on one of the "BULLSHIT" chants.
These orange jerseys should have maroon shoulder stripes
*ducks*
Lol
Way ahead of you:
Actually, it doesn't look as bad as I was visualizing it to be
Honestly, I like both the actual orange jersey and the mock-up with maroon stripes equally.
The maroon jersey, though, looks much better to me with orange stripes instead of white.
One step closer to the Holy Grail of Hokieness
Should we play Rockytop too? Seems to go with the uniforms.
trash
That's the B-4 space
It's been scientifically proven that we generally play worse in orange, UNC last year notwithstanding. But whatever the kids like to wear I guess
Don't have time right now but when I get a chance I'll do a breakdown showing the result of each game where we wore (primary) orange jerseys, orange pants, orange helmets or a combination of the three. For the record, primary orange means the item in question was mostly orange. The orange camo jerseys from a few years ago that were mostly white with orange shoulders go in the white column.
First appearance of orange as a primary color for any part of the uniform under Frank Beamer:
1993 vs Rutgers

I think that average will be a little different after Saturday
Only a little.
We'd have to score 59 points to increase our side by a full point (57 rounding to one sig fig), while being shutout wouldn't even lower the average by a full point. Conversely, ODU would have to score 55 points to increase the average for the opposing team by a full point while being shutout also doesn't lower the average by even a full point.
Also, I'd managed to skip the ECU and Miami scores from 1994 (both orange pants only games) despite putting them in the overall record. The new averages have been updated in my post.
I mean, Liberty put up 52 on them...
You're doing the Lord's work here. Leg for you.
What about White Orange Maroon?
Aka WOMp-womp?
Exactly!
Whatever happened to the 'burnt' in 'burnt orange'?
The Athletic Dept colors are a bit different than the University colors. Chicago Maroon is nearly a purple and not what you see on our uniforms.
To be fair, wouldn't you want to distance yourself from this?
The wordmark is so close to the Athletic wordmark... why did they even bother creating that
Because that was back when we invented the future and we had sharp corners.
It honestly makes no sense when nearly almost every other university is going for "one brand" - especially when Athletics rebranded in 2016 and the University rebranded in 2017.
Tennessee, Texas A&M, LSU, Kentucky, Indiana, Oregon, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Washington, Auburn etc. all come to mind that have recently done the switch to "one brand".
Athletics went with the bright orange nearly 20-30 years ago, made the official brand shift with the rebranding after Whit was hired, and academics made it official on their side with their recent rebranding.
It's gross
I would recommend you come to terms with it because it's here to stay.
I've accepted and come to terms with the fact that they made an awful choice
Maybe you just have awful taste in shades of orange.
We've slowly been moving from maroon and burnt orange to purple and saftey-vest orange. Most of the teams are now using the same colors.
I like the consistency, I dislike the shift in colors themselves.
I still cant believe we changed our school colors
I know, I loved black and gray.
I am not a fan of orange unless it is the juice in my glass.
What I do like is the subtle Hokie Stone of the numbers. I don't remember seeing that before. We are not going to be able to the see that from the stands, but it is a nice touch.
I still think that the orange jerseys from last year should be our orange jerseys, no stripes
Those were amazing. Such a clean look. Loved em!
Hokies vs. ODU

LOLUVA vs. Louisville

Mood this weekend in Virginia:

5045 days. #OurState
Further affirming their role as the younger sibling trying to copy their big brother.
5045 days = 13 years, 9 months, 3 weeks, and 5 days.
Not that we're counting or anything..
Although primary colors similar in this combo, I think we easily win the accent battle.
I dislike the mosaic looking hokie Stone. I think it would look better if it was always oriented North/south instead of curving with the numbers
Because it's slow and I'm exceptionally bored...

* Black Hokie Stone uniform (Battle at Bristol): 0-1
* White Hokie Stone uniform (Delaware 2017): 1-0
Threw the tricolor helmets into the "white" category. I can do a separate list with the tricolor helmets bit it'll take a while.
Wow, well done!
May be 5-0, but they were all close games...
Considering we pretty much only whip it out for big games, that's not too bad...
Which game was the win?
What was the non-FedEx game?
Frank's last home game, against UNC, was also all black everything.
The other Orange Maroon Maroon combo was 2016 vs ECU.
Also looks like I recorded the game against Tulsa (MWO) as one of the five games we won as MOW because I can't find the fifth game now and the remaining four games + Tulsa = exactly what I need for the average to come out. The corrected info is below along with every AME game we've ever played.
Maroon Orange White games:
2008 GT (20-17)
2008 Western Kentucky (27-13)
2011 UNC (24-21)
2012 GT (20-17 OT)
New average: 22.75-17.5
All Maroon Everything games from 2008-2017: 6-4
2008 Maryland (win)
2008 Duke (win)
2008 UVA (win)
2009 Miami (win)
2014 Miami (loss)
2015 Duke (loss 4OT)
2016 Miami (win)
2016 Clemson (loss, ACCCG)
2017 WVU (win)
2017 Clemson (loss)
AME games from 1993-2007: 6-3
1996 WVU (win)
1998 UVA (loss)
2003 Texas A&M (win)
2003 BC (win)
2003 California (loss)
2006 Clemson (win)
2006 UVA (win)
2007 BC (Fuck Matt Ryan)
2007 FSU (win)
AME when we were bad (1987-1992): 1-2
1990 WVU (win)
1991 ECU (loss)
1992 WVU (loss)
I take back what I said about "big games", yikes. Duke, UVA, and Maryland inflated those numbers from 3-3. Still decent, but not as good as I thought.
The list from the 15 years prior is a little more in line with what I was thinking.
Oops, misplaced reply.
In any case, looking forward to seeing these on TV tomorrow!
Let's Go!
Those matte helmets are so sexy
This is why you don't wear orange!
