Is anyone interested in doing a community tailgate before the Maryland game?
I'll say beforehand:
- I don't have a parking spot or spots. That needs to figured out.
- I have a small amount of tailgating supplies (basically 2 folding chairs and a couple of coolers). We'll need grills, tents, chairs, and coolers.
- I can't afford food or booze for everyone, people will have to BYOB and make food to share. (I will buy a good amount of burgers and cases of PBR).
- Need bourbon.
- swanny26 is a competition BBQer, what can you do for us Sir?
- This must be a charitable endeavor. I liked the idea of donations for a local food bank. Everyone needs to bring $5 of canned goods, or make a donation at the tailgate.
What do you think?
11/5/13: Does anyone have a parking pass they can donate to the cause? Are people still interested in coming?

I like it. I'm planning on going to that game, but not 100% sure that I can make it just yet though
I'm all for a charitable tailgate with fellow TKP'ers. I think that would be really cool. Not sure where we could do it though unless somebody can get there early and get set up in the Prices Fork lot
I'm in. I'm local to the NRV so no parking spots here either. But I can bring chairs and other tailgating supplies. I will also contribute a bottle of fine bourbon. I'd also be willing to help snag spots in the Prices Fork lot or somewhere else.
I can bring food/beer, a few chairs, and possibly a cooler. I don't know the tailgate/gameday parking rules but I'm assuming you need parking permits for most lots? I can't help with that, but I could also be available to come early and snag a spot in a lot that doesn't require a permit.
Price's fork is just pay to park I believe.
I am planning to go to that game with some friends so I don't see why we couldn't come by for a while.
But can you bring Daniel L. Crandall?
I probably can, he does make house calls.
But last time I tailgated with Big Dan, he brought a bowling ball and pins (only 8 of them) and tried to bowl in the parking lot. He was sipping what he called "polyjuice potion" out of a flask (we later found out it was absinthe and MDMA) and he disappeared into Stadium Woods before the game. Showed up in the stands about midway through the third quarter with blood all over him and when I asked him what happened, he just gave me dirty look and said "Attorney-Client privilege, bro." So, just be warned, he goes hard in the paint.
Only one question remains... is he single?
Someone needs to photoshop Crandell on Saul Goodman to complete the Breaking Bud photoshop
The Price's Fork / Commuter lot is open to whoever shows up first. Costs $20 per car.
We tailgated there for the Pitt game and there were plenty of open spots, even nearer kickoff.
I could bring some homebrew. Not sure how much. All depends on how much my roommates drink the next few weeks and how much beer I make.
I was about to say 'fuck it' and buy a plane ticket. then I saw that tickets a $450 and said 'fuck it.'
I'll bring bourbon for the tailgate and the food bank
Tentatively penciled in to attend the game. My in-laws have a spot in the Cage along with some friends of theirs; more than likely will be spending a good amount of time there to catch up, but if TKP tailgate is in range you can bet your tuckus I'll be dropping by. And seeing as I've never met any of you, that ought to be interesting.
Joe maybe you should add "Hello my name is @______" nametags to your list.
If I end up going to the Maryland game, which I'm trying to make work, then I would definitely be down for this.
I haven't decided between Duke and Maryland yet. But if I decide on Maryland I am def down for tailgating.
I can bring my famous cheese ball and bourbon of course. :)
I'll be going to the Md game tickets in section 13, I have a space in lot 16.
I could bring beer, tables, tent, a 2-burner Coleman (because the game will probably be at 12:00), Pork chops.
Going to try to bring some of my BBQ team's award winning pork. Just need a way to heat it up!
My fam is located at Lot 8, and there's usually plenty of room for people to come hang out. Plus, there's a huge tent down the street that blasts music.
Also, important to note that there are 10 port-o-potties right beside us.
Clutch.
So what you're saying is, you have crappy neighbors?
+1 for the witty pun. Whatever happened to having an empty 3 liter bottle of Super K cola as your portable port-o-potty?
opening to a 3 liter bottle is too small...get one of these guys

Not the Super K from Kroger. The opening might not be the biggest but its enough to stay spill free. Plus I don't like OJ and feel bad dumping it out.
that's what I bought this bad boy for

Or go with one of these to make even more of a statement (courtesy of Top Gear:
Center street parking is $25 dollars in my backyard, first come first serve
In preparation for Bristol 2016 can't someone just take one for the team and buy an RV and we can throw down at the airport?
As pleanty of people have mentioned, the Prices Fork lot is open to anyone. It's $15 to park there, but if you have a valid commuter parking pass it's free.
It's first come first serve so if we get there early, we should be able to find a spot in the grass, either by the parking deck or Prices Fork, to set up tents, grills, chairs etc. I think this is our best bet in finding a spot, we just need to be there early.
I don't particularly want to volunteer for this just because I know it's going to take a decent bit of effort, but if somebody could maybe start a list of who is bringing what that would be great. Just so we know what we already have and what we may need. If nobody else steps up, I'd be glad to do it.
I like what Joe is saying, either bring food for the entire tailgate, or a canned donation if you want in on this fun. Just spitballing I think we're going to need the following things:
The Essentials:
Food
Beer
Bourbon
Important:
Grill
Cornhole (other games)
Other drinks (soda & water)
Chairs
Tent
Other:
Speakers and Music
Beer Bongs
Somebody is going to need to get there really early to reserve the spot for us (Joe, I'm kind of assuming this may be you). For this to work, and I think most people on here want this to happen, we need everyone to chip in something. If you can't cook, go pick up something pre-made from the store or contribute some other way.
Just my thoughts.
My girlfriend and I are in Prices Fork by at least 7am pretty much every game (parking is free before 7am as the parking ticket people aren't out yet.) I also tailgate with the four wheel drive club sometimes, so they all park their jeeps out the night before and save spaces. With the help of students on here we could theoretically have enough people park the night before to reserve a large enough space.
Like you say above, the essentials are alcohol and food (mainly alcohol.) Besides that all you need are people for a successful tailgate. It also would be cool to have a Key Play sign or something so everyone knows exactly where to go.
Might I suggest this as the sign:
I can't go. This living in East Alabama and no real projection of future schedules in my work really puts a damper on my traveling. However, if Joe sets up a paypal donation thingy I'll gladly contribute $5 for the cause.
Me too. I'll support any TKP function.
I won't be able to make it, but I do have a suggestion for some of the donations - the NRV Women's Resource Center. My girlfriend did a lot of work with them when we were at Tech and said that they always are running low on supplies. They provide services (including feeding and temporarily housing) women and children who are victims of domestic or sexual violence. It's currently Domestic Violence Awareness Month and in the light of the Adrian Peterson tragedy, I think it's important to take a look at helping a place like this. I know all charities and food banks need donations too, just wanted to throw out the idea.

Major items they need: canned/non-perishable food, 13 gallon trash bags, toilet paper, batteries, flashlights, etc.
I can also get ya'll set up with someone to pick stuff up and take it to the WRC in Radford if needed so nobody has to make the trip.
I will contribute in any way that does not require me to spend a bunch of money.
ILL BE THERE! A Genesee for you, and another for you, Genesee FOR EVERYONE YAY CHEAP CRAPPY COLLEGE BEER
I wish I could be there, but if I continue on my work stuff, I would be on my 2nd rotation, so I don't think I'll be able to make it.
Maybe someone can bring a stump and some nails/hammer for the game of "Stump?"
This seems like an awesome idea, and I wish I could be there, but life takes precedence.
Based on early results it is safe to say that we will have more people at TKP tailgate than UVA had fans at their Spring Game.
That'll be true if only Joe shows up.
I've been down the last 2 weeks and a little burnt out at the moment (81 was hell on Saturday), but come November we'll see. Put me down as a maybe. But as some have said, I think to make this happen we need to start a list of who's coming and more importantly a spot. Prices Fork has sounded like the best place. I park at my brother's place, but if we get a few other cars to claim a few spots together I will steal his commuter badge and claim a spot Friday night.
81 is hell everyday
I would, but my whole family is coming down since my brother is a UMD alum and some of my friends that go to UMD are coming. So I'll probably be having my own tailgate that weekend.
man, i got a tent, grill, tables, etc, etc, but maryland is gonna be the toughest one for me to get to. i'm likely going to duke and definitely going to uva, but my work will be crazy in mid-november.
I know I'll be at the game since there is also a wrestling match either before or after the game depending on when kickoff is which I'll have to work. I get to park in the media lot, but I don't think drinking is permitted in that lot. I usually go down to other lots to tailgate. Prices Fork is where I tailgated my extra semester and is a perfect distance that you can usually finish two walking beers on the way from the lot to the stadium and plenty of restrooms along the way since you can get into most of the buildings.
HALP: We need a parking pass. Please let me know if you can help.
Commuter pass? and do we know kickoff time yet?
It's a 12:30 kickoff, and I want a legit tailgating pass. I went to tell people we will be at SPOT X in LOT Y, not "come look around for us."
I saw a lot 9 pass (over by the Duck Pond) for sale at a reasonable price, probably $30 after fees (VividSeats). While this is not a numbered lot, it is a smaller lot and therefore it would be easier for everyone to find your spot. If you get there early and park in one of the spaces along Duckpond Rd, it would be very easy to locate. It is also near some of the larger donor lots (8 + 16), so folks could more easily stop by.
If you decide to go this route, I will gladly split the price with another TKPer who is feeling generous. Just pass along the PayPal info via email.
did you ask on twitter?
I'd donate my Lot 15 pass to help out some fellow Hokies.
