Just browsing the Sabre, and someone on there was trying to tout LOLUVa as one of 2 schools that have been ranked #1 in both football and basketball. Since 1980!!! Yes, going back that far...you know, stretching it out.
Well, he brilliantly came up with UVA and Florida. That's it. Thinking they were in some sort of elite company.
I can think of quite a few others, recently....
Texas, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, Syracuse, Bama
A few others not quite sure about...Michigan State, Stanford, F$U, Clemson, UCLA, Notre Dame?
Anyone confirm/deny these or think of anyone else?

Definitely not Clemson, Bama, FSU, Syracuse, Stanford, UCLA, Notre Dame, and Michigan State...possible on Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, and Oklahoma
Just talking about being ranked #1 at some point in the year...
I know Ohios State, Texas, OK and Michigan are a yes since 1980. So are UCLA and Bama (ranked #1 for 1 week in the late 80's I believe in basketball.)
We be inclined to believe ND is a yes. The others not sure...along with WVU?
Texas won the NCAAs in Baseball Basketball and football in a years span. they're definitely part of that company.
Ok, so I finally found some info...http://www.collegepollarchive.com/index.cfm
the list includes (alphabetically)
Alabama, Florida, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA, LOLUVa

Since 1980? Add Missouri and Pitt. Also, I don't see GT for football (though they won the Coaches' championship in '90).
Good catch on Mizzu and aPm. Thought I had them on the list...
And I included the co-champ year for GT. Hey, that counts for something!
Is this what UVA is going to now?
"We were #1 in football and basketball, at one point, back in the 80's, and not even at the same time, but then Chaminade beat us in basketball."
Yes, yes it is. That and chortling over the UT game at Bristol.
Good news is they are 4-2 in moral victories this year!
It's funny to think that UVA's 1990 football team (which was ranked #1 in the country at one time) lost to the Hokies! After a 7-0 start and a #1 national ranking, the Wahoos lost four of their last five games to finish 8-4; one of those losses was a 38-13 beatdown in Blacksburg.
Wahoos still love to talk about that one time when they were ranked #1 in the country, and I love to tell them that that same team was defeated by the Hokies. In fact, I saw a newspaper article a few years ago that ranked the Top 5 UVA football teams of all time. #1 on the list was the 1990 squad and #2 was the 1995 team. So UVAs two greatest football teams of all time were BOTH beaten by the Hokies!
