Fans and members of the public are encouraged to attend. Unlike other monuments honoring iconic figures, this tribute to Beamer will be devoid of any pedestal and will be very approachable just like the man who was taught the values of hard work and loyalty on his family's farm in rural Fancy Gap, Virginia.
Beamer's coaching likeness will be accompanied by a bench where admirers can easily take a photo or spend a moment reflecting on their favorite Virginia Tech moment. Moody Plaza is already a popular gathering spot on campus and will provide additional reason for Hokies of all ages to congregate here. "We are all in this together," has always been a favorite mantra of Beamer, and no doubt he will be pleased that this location will continue to bring the Virginia Tech family together.
Thanks to Virginia Tech partner Coca-Cola, miniature replicas of the monument will be available to the first 5,000 fans who enter the gates for the Notre Dame game. Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, with one replica per person. Gates open two hours prior to kickoff
This is huge news and well deserves. I'm jealousy of the people who get the miniature version.

well deserved it was only a matter of time!
Love how this was thought out. Great honor for a great guy and can't wait to get a selfie beside it.
Not sure what the official pose will be, but guessing this had to make it into the conversation.

I was just about to type out that this is the perfect pose but an awful occasion.
Please let the statue be Frank on the bench drinking a milkshake.
Always figured that little plaza was there to accommodate a future statue for Beamer.
With that said.... now thinking about it, it is a little derivative.....
Nice bit of research.
It's kind of eerie how similar the settings are. Which was constructed first? Who's the copycat?
I remember what happened here....I was in a tree taking pictures when this went
I think someone has to ask the important question, will Frank's statue be accompanied by a statue of Hank?
This is great! Also, that plaza is a perfect location for it as you drive by it every time you enter campus from that side. Can't wait to see it.
It'd be nice if the statue was a animatronic of Coach Beamer holding the Black diamond trophy
Oh and because of the Black diamond trophy reference:
Today marks 5112 days.
This hits me in the feels, like all beamer related things. I'm almost 30 and I didn't really have a grandfather figure either by death while I was a toddler or not in the picture. So I've always considered Beamer my unofficial "pop" and always watching him from a young age on the tv knowing that's the kinda of man I want to grow up into (along with my Bud Foster doppelgänger father). I hope that if I have kids, I can share what a great man he is and I'm definitely convincing my child that Beamer is his great granddad
leg for you, you heart-tugging son-of-a-bitch...
Anything short of this will be a disappointment.
FLOATING FRANK BEAMER JOR-EL HEAD
I can see that more as a hologram.
Could randomly move it around the campus.
This would work:

Or this:
I really hope they leave a spot next to him to put a statue of Bud....
To a lesser recognized degree, Billy Hite deserves something too.
And Coach Wiles.
And Hank.
.

I'm sure someone from our Engineering School made this into a robot where Frank continuously dabs on gamedays or after victories.
I don't love this. I think Frank should be off center so that Bud can be installed eventually too.
Or maybe this is all a ruse and Bud will be installed this weekend too.
Yep. It's made. I was able to get a picture of it.

I am very glad that WE ARE NOT PENN STATE. The whole legend of Paterno is essentially gone and erased from that stadium. Beamer always did it the right way. We do not have to worry about some crazy scandal coming out and tarnishing his name and legacy. Thank you Beamer for everything!
I do not like the amount of fate tempting that is going on here. We like to believe the program is clean in this regard, but you really have no idea. Before 2010 everyone knew Penn State was the cleanest program in the country. Now?
I refuse to believe that Paterno has anything do with that. I think they were looking for a reason to move on from him and they found their scapegoat. I mean they literally killed the man.
Godspeed my friend.
"I refuse to believe [thoroughly documented and investigated facts that show Paterno was grossly negligent at best and complicit at worst]"
wat
I've never seen this version before. It might supersede my previous favorite.

The iconic image of Beamer for me is him being carried on the shoulders of his players after the '99 BC game when we were heading to the national championship. That's a great pose I'll always remember, and then him addressing the crowd from the field.
Or the upraised arm from his farewell (or was it 25th?) emblem.
That and the image of him being carried off by the team after his last game in Lane. To me that embodied the honor the players and fans felt - even in defeat, Beamer earned the respect and love of the Hokie family.
Not a fan of having a statue of a living person (after what happened with Paterno), but other than that, so exciting!
Yea I agree with this, always makes me nervous. Also, I think there are ways to honor Frank that are less creepy than a statue.
works for Rocky, I'm good with it.
Hoping it really is as they say and approachable. Something like this would be ideal imo

yeah I am not sold on the feature wall behind it. If it was designed as an actual feature then sure, but it's just a glorified name plate for the donor which is dumb. Either no wall or design the wall.
Live view of ceremony.
And the feed is dead lol.
Imagine if they actually did try to live-stream Metallica tonight, these guys can't handle a statue unveiling with 200 people watching
That was ducking embarrassing. I sent out this happeneing to everyone on our list here in Jacksonville along with a subtle Hokie Club notice. The feed going down makes this so much harder because it's not an isolated incident. This kind of crap happens way too much.
Looks like a statue of Beamer on the players' shoulders.
Love Buzz being in the same pic!
Plenty of room left to accomodate Bud and co.
Ah, so they decided to go with the Captain Riker kneel. VERY excellent.

I see Frank's got a little captain in him...
