The Giga Pixel for the Notre Dame game has been posted. Despite your feelings of the outcome of the game, this is really great. We have done these before, but the striping effect (which we actually pulled off with striping colors) looks great with this.
I also have to say, that I know we didn't contend the way we all hoped, but damned if the crowd didn't show up in force in a way that hasn't been see in at least ten years. We were right behind them at half time and I don't think it looked any different at the start of the half. We have the best fans, yall!
🙌 #HokieNation, thank you for being a part of the first Hokie Effect game in school history! 👀 Can you spot yourself in Lane Stadium in this gigapixel, presented by Smithfield?! ⤵️📸 https://t.co/8oezKoWyZk pic.twitter.com/V8HBLeN0hk— HokieSports (@hokiesports) October 7, 2018

Lane looked freaking awesome. Kudos to everyone involved in making this happen.
First of all, Smithfield hams are a part of my upbringing and I'm a thousand percent saddened to hear how they got bought out and the whole shit is going to shit.
Second of all, the stripes looked really good and I'm proud of you guys for pulling it off.
The atmosphere in Lane was awesome! It was packed and you felt the energy. The stripe looked really good. The skydivers were cool. And the Metallica intro was AMAZING!!!!! Our fans are pretty special.
(Yes, I found HokieEnginerd and myself)
There is no hiding those that didn't stripe lane now.
Lol. I came here to say this. You said it nicer so I'm glad you beat me to the punch
Found us 😂 pretty sure I'm the only person in our section that reacted to what was going on at the time.
when did they take the photo?
At the end of the 1st quarter.
This is pretty awesome! Does Hilgart ever look happy?
Now it all makes sense. We've lost every game that they've done this at (OSU, Bristol). This is obviously why we lost this game. /s
Nope. They did this for the FSU game this year as well.
That I did not know. Thanks for the info.
Sucks that we can never fill in the stadium completely anymore. the top left of the east stands and south endzone are always lacking.
only way that's going to change is if they find a way to enforce seating better. Problem is people move to better seats if they can. 85% full with lots of empty seats scattered throughout looks 100% full. If all that 85% packs it in, it looks empty in the corners. The reality is that even with 100% capacity, the NEZ is still at 130% capacity and all those tickets had to come from somewhere, thus empty corners.
I hear this explanation quite often but am not sure I buy it. Maybe somewhat, but looking back at when I attended games regularly there (~10 years) I've got pictures of packed noon games against the furmans of the world. Other stadiums dont seem to have this issue either. I was at the WVU Kansas state game (330 kickoff) a couple weeks ago (dont ask) and their stadium looked like it was more completely filled in than lane did sat night to me.
I dunno, man. Looking at the gigapixel, I'm seeing all but the very top corners of the NE and SW seats full. And looking at the density in the north end zone, it's clear they have more people packed in there per row than the packed sections of the east stands. I can easily see that accounting for the (relatively) few empty seats. If they were to put gates on just the NEZ, add turnstiles, and strictly limit entrance to capacity, I can practically guarantee we'd see those corners fill up every game.
in this vein of thought, I haven't attended a game in the last 4 years and not gotten into NEZ, regardless of the location of my ticketed seat.
There were also still people filtering in when they took this, so possibly not everyone was seated yet. Just a thought.
That south endzone (south is opposite the student bleachers right?) is actually pretty dang full. I was going by more what was on TV but see now it's just kinda dark up there and couldnt see people as well. That top left of east was pretty bald tho on tv. The angle of this photo definitely makes it more favorable. Guess I just figured for a night game that's nearly as big as it can get it would be more packed. But maybe you're right. Maybe things have changed seating wise over the last ten years as well. Doesnt look great on tv tho.
