Night games in blacksburg

An idea for night games in blacksburg:

I have neither the technical savvy to make this happen, nor the copyright knowledge to even know if its possible, but I had an idea for an altered hokies entrance in the event of a home night game.

First, the opposing team would enter first. I know generally you want your team to enter to the thunder and applause, while the opponents saunter on meekly, but there is method to my madness. As they enter, all lights in the stadium cut, except for a spotlight on their team leading them to their bench. Enter sandman starts softly at the prayer part. "Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep..." After "in your closet in your head," there are a few added measures of build before the music and the lights cut simultaneously. The whole stadium screams along with the music "exit light." The music and the lights come back strong as the hokies run out of the smoke filled tunnel during "enter night." After the chorus there's like a minute out guitar solo or so. Everyone loses their minds.

Not sure if that's even possible, but in my head its a pretty awesome entrance that isn't too far out of bounds for our current tradition.

I like the idea but the stadium lights take about 10 mins to power up to full strength.

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

don't give up so easily man. Stadium floodlights can have mechanical louvers attached to them that can reduce light by up to 85%, more if they have a surrounding blinder. How do you think they turn lights on and off during games for half time shows and those kind of things. Your idea could easily be a reality. And it's a good one. Have another turkey leg good sir.

Good idea but I think fan and player safety would factor in..

I mean it's a nice idea but I'm not sure how well it would work in practice

I've always kinda wished they let the song go a little before they run in and the band plays the fight song. Imagine 66,000 singing "sleep with one eye open..."ect. Its happened once or twice at bball games when they start the song before the tip and the refs messed up and so it takes a while for the tip to happen and people are singing along with the song. It's really cool.

it's like one big ass church choir

Party Positive.

The band doesn't pay the fight song during the entrance anymore. I'm guessing it's because the new scoreboard is so much louder than the old one.

You sure? I was right next to the tunnel for the UNC game and the Highty-Tighties we playing their instruments right after the team came through the tunnel and enter sandman stopped like always. Not that you can every really hear them that well because the crowd is still going crazy

Here is the entrance for WCU:

and against Marshall:

I was also at the Marshall game and played the same clip. Figured that would be the way going forward. It'd be a shame if it isn't.

Edit: embedded the videos.

As an HT who is actually down on the field I can confirm that we do play tech triumph. Sorry that with only 1/3 the numbers we dont get as loud as the MV's...

Oh snap, I just re-watched the video and noticed that they are actually playing Sandman OVER the HT's playing "Tech Triumph"

I didn't even notice the first few times...

They've been playing Enter Sandman over the HT's for years. Doesn't really matter if the whole stadium can hear us at the time or not, IMO. It gives the entire team time to get through the tunnel, and gives the Band a definite mark of when it's time to break and start making their way over to the SEZ.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Yeah, it's kind of like how you don't notice the HT's playing during the timeouts. I always wondered when I was a cadet why people looked at us funny for dancing. After sitting in the West side and North endzone for the last three years, I now know why.

Well, the only way to get louder is to recruit more HT's! I know they have gotten big enough for the Corps to split them into two companies this year (man, Eager Squad gonna be AWESOME if 2 Band Co. Squads get to compete!)

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

As far as I know we will still be putting up one combined squad from both sections, like we did last year when we introduced the sections. Also we are on a 3 year win streak fir the Squad and at least one Eager I each year, and our candidate won the individual Iron Man competition for the Corps this week.

Doin Good Things Since 1892

There was one basketball game, I think last year, where there was some delay just before tipoff (I think the ceiling had a small leak or something, and they dried the court), and it got all the way through the first verse and chorus, and the ref tossed the ball up right after the line "off to never never land" finished. It was perfect.

That was the Miami game. It was awesome. They have actually done a good job this year of letting the song play a little bit in, but it doesn't get to the chorus so I'm always the only one singing.

Step 1: Get a night game.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

What is this night of which you speak?

Move to alaska. Noon games can be played in the dark. Problem solved.

If you can't handle my shit posts, you don't deserve my memes

That Aurora Borealis, it's a tough opponent, it'll get after ya!

Turkey leg for you sir. Definitely one of the coolest things to see in person, next to the grand canyon of course.

Now that's thinking outside the box.

What? No Hokie Bird coming in on a Zipline or parachute to deliver the game ball while confetti streams down?

VT has one of the best entrances in all of sports. When we do have night games (is there still time for UMD?) the place is rocking and rolling, doesn't need to be enhanced by a sing-a-long, just pump the first few bars, let the crowd go nuts and the rest handles itself.

Launching turkeys.. sounds like when a frozen turkey meets grease lol

What? No Hokie Bird coming in on a Zipline or parachute to deliver the game ball while confetti streams down?

I say the hokie bird flies the plan during the fly over, ejects, and parachutes into the stadium. While Enter Sandman is playing. Hopefully the plane eventually crashes somewhere in Charlottesville.

PS the Ron Mexico jersey in your avi is hilarious.

Thanks, been rocking it since 2005, as long as Vick is still in the NFL I will keep his memory alive in Blacksburg.

Anyone know when we will hear about the game time for MD??

@AMB4VT

This is typically announced the Monday prior to the week of the game (basically, 12 days before the game). So, in this case, 11/4.

Thanks! Have a turkey leg. :)

@AMB4VT

I predict noon

Pessimist, or perhaps realist? With the way the ACC and E$PN dump on VT, you're prob'ly right.

I will be back in Virginia for that game and would really love to go as Mrs. Chachi and I have been out of the country for 5 years, but a nooner would be less satisfying. Might be easier to get tix though. Decisions, decisions... OK, we're going if we can find tix from somebody.

This philly really needs it to be at 3:30 or later.

I've always wanted Metallica to preform enter sandman live. This could probably happen during halftime..now how cool would that be at night..

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

I have my eye on Bristol 2016 for Metallica to open up the festivities right.
That would take me one more step towards realizing Hokie perfection.

Jesus H. Christ. It's too good to believe.
