UNC looked terrible against ECU, but I wonder if they have improved significantly over the last three weeks.
Three weeks ago UNC beat a Pitt. team that has beaten Syracuse and Georgia Tech.
Two weeks ago UNC got crushed by Miami, but that game may have gone very differently if they hadn't turn the ball over six times. UNC actually drove the ball 70 yards for a field goal, and 78 yards for a touchdown on their first 2 real offensive possessions (against one of the best defenses in the country?), before the game got out of hand because of turnovers.
Last week UNC had a bye to get ready for us.
I know we are better than UNC, but is anybody else worried that UNC might be flying under the radar and have turned into a team that is actually not horrible?

I hope after the ODU debacle, we keep all our opponents on our radar.
You'd think we wouldn't need an ODU to happen once every 3 years in order for us to keep every opponent on our radar
you mean every year?
We don't have an ODU or JMU type loss every year. The Georgia Tech and Pitt games don't count as that.
That is true, after ODU we really can't use the "they snuck up on us" excuse anymore.
If we lose any more games we will have to stick with:
We are young on defense
Or
4 mistakes at crucial times changed the course of the game
The only team left on our schedule where "4 mistakes" would cost us the game is Miami, every other game we should be the better team by far.
If we lose to GT or BC it's because of our young team. If we lose to anyone else the sky is falling and we should for everyone and rebuild from the ground up.
Na, if we lose to Pitt it's because of VTs inability to win in Pittsburgh. Our record is not great for that city.
Fuente is 1-0 at Heinz field.
We not a better team than ANYONE. WE LOST TO ODU. Time to reset. We are capable of losing to everyone left on our schedule
Except UVA.
And now we are....
Holy shit, now UVA is better than us? I need to take a break from this website... the world does not end because we lost to a Notre Dame team that will more than likely be in the playoffs. We are leading the ACC Coastal Division... remember?
Folks are paranoid about overlooking opponents after ODU, rightfully so.
I made a joke about UVA sucking. This would not have been the reaction last week after the Duke win.
We went on the road and dominated Duke, one of the best teams in the division. Until further notice, the ODU game was a wake-up call when we got caught sleeping, and we are at worst the 2nd-best team in the Coastal. Capable of losing any game, yes, but better than almost everyone else left on the schedule.
Y'all need to calm down.
Well I'm sure they are not playing to lose!
At this point, I'm more worried about VT beating VT.
VT isn't nearly consistent or disciplined as I'd like them to be, so they need to be working hard, and they still have a lot of adjustments to make on both offense and defense.
This game won't be as much about UNC as it will be about VT.
As long as water is wet and it's raining in Chapel Hill at game time, I love the Hokies chances.
They have one receiver and no QBs. Stop the run game and you stop UNC.
Exactly. Back them up within their own 5 and make them run the ball.
Are we sure we want people running against us inside their own 5? /s
No and no.
No, I think this is the one team Fuente wants to blowout every year. You can see the enjoyment he has gotten the last two years beating them.
I agree. Fuente really has some hatred for UNC. Idk if it's cuz of the cheating, NC2VT campaign or something else but as long as he keeps hating them and blowing their doors off I'm fine with it
It's because Larry Fedora is a dickbag who is rumored to have used some less than classy recruiting pitches against us.
I've heard similar things.
I always heard he was more of an asshat
Not mutually exclusive. I'd argue you could also throw fuckstick in there.
I've always been partial to cum-dumpster
I've heard that, too!!
I have no doubt that the staff is approaching every single game with care now. UNC is a talented team. They can steal a win if we are unprepared.
Not a chance. Fu will have them dialed in, he seems to enjoy embarrassing UNC as much as possible.
I also enjoy this.
Nope
AB quoted Fuente as saying this in a recent article on the Athletic. Basically saying the running game is scary, a couple good WRs, QB is improving, and a good DL. While I'm sure this is a bit of coach speak, it's reassuring to know that staff isn't taking this game for granted.
And I'm sure they noticed ND's success in using their WR's to crack block our safeties and force our inexperienced corners to be the free hitters.
Yikes!
I don't think the staff took ODU for granted. I firmly believe, however, our football players did.
no- see weather report.
Sunny and 60 degrees?
We are 120th in pass defense and inconsistent and commit turnovers a bunch on offense. Anybody in the ACC can "sneak up" on us a beat us. No question about it.
I would agree that we are inconsistent but we don't turn the ball over "a bunch" on offense. 4 turnovers in 5 games is not a bunch
I agree with you that we don't turn it over a bunch, but we do seem to put the ball on the ground quite a bit. We just don't notice because we've been very lucky with fumble recoveries this year. We need to either bring back the boxing glove on a stick, or pray that our good fortune in this area continues.
We are definitely inconsistent. A large part of why our pass defense rates so badly is because of the game that shall not be mentioned. We've actually held all of our P5 Opponents under 280 yards passing, and gotten five interceptions in three games. Our pass defense isn't good, but maybe average and inconsistent? And the inconsistency shows up mainly when we have one too many people injured in the defensive back field.
Take out ODU? That was a game we played. If you look at last week, Book missed several wide open throws. There were breakdowns against W&M.
Deablo for whatever reason is one hell of a calming force. Sucks he's dealing with injuries.
You can play the missed wide open throws both ways tho. There was a slant that Willis threw behind our guy that would have gone for a TD if thrown in front. Each game QBs are gonna miss some throws (except Tua apparently)
Tua did miss 3 last game. But that may be the highest passer rating in a single game ever.
After 4 games, our pass defense is 120th out of 129 teams. That is enough of a sample size to fairly say- not good, IMO.
Coastal Division opponents should not be sneaking up on VT if their preached goal now is an ACC title game appearance.
This VT team has shown its youth and inexperience. UNC can win, but that would mean that VT would need to fight and scrap for bowl eligibility, and I think we are slightly above that this year.
This team isn't good enough for anybody to "sneak up on."
Fuente has only lost back to back games once in his tenure here. If we had beat ND I would be more worried about them sneaking up on us. But after that loss with plenty of execution errors, I'm betting (literally) we blow them out. He blows out teams after every loss and especially against a coach I don't think he likes he is gonna try and run up the score.
Can't wait!!!!!!
Maintaining a positive mental perspective is always important when faced with adversity. At the same time

Problem solved! Our laurels got tossed on the ODU dumpster fire last week.
Kelly Bryant will visit UNC this weekend.
Just saw that. What a shame. Fuck Fedora.
I wonder how many total threads this will go up in? /s
Clearly we were looking past ND because only conference games matter....../s
This was loluva's mantra for years when it came to the Hokies. It was a bonus to ACC membership to have that sorry ass lie put to its final rest.
I think this game is going to be a shootout. We can certainly put up points on offense against UNC. The question is can our defense stop bigs plays? My prediction is no and the game will be closer than we think with the Hokies pulling it off in a high scoring game. 38-35 Hokies.
