Now's Our Chance to Bring Back Stick It In!!!

Looks like the great one is pandering to his student section.

Saban and Alabama to bring back 'Dixieland Delight'

The profanity outraged some family-first Alabama season ticket holders, while the Alabama poultry lobby took issue with the anti-chicken sentiments. After the 2014 Iron Bowl, the use of the song was discontinued.

Why now? Probably as one more enticement to keep Alabama students in the stands for the entire game. Nick Saban has complained about it enough, at least, to get the administration to get on board with trying something to get students to stay for a whole fifty point blowout of literally anyone on Alabama's schedule.

Great idea! Not to be the get off my lawn guy, but some of the piped in music is loud and obnoxious......it could be any stadium anywhere. The MVs have done a good job when given the chance to bring a little "natural" spirit to the stadium. Stick it in would be fantastic. Bring it back.

Agreed on piped in music. I live within hearing distance of Beaver Stadium and if I have to hear Sandstorm one more time...

Let the bands do the work, this is college ball not pro ball

"WE'RE NOT PENN STATE"

Clever. +1

Apparently the MVs chant that whenever it's played in Lane. Which I learned from a friend in the band, and have since spread to my friends and family. We switch it up for away games, saying "YOU'RE NOT PENN STATE".

Twice (once in Lane and once in Lane-North) I've had a nearby Penn State fan comment about it, which has only encouraged the behavior.

"MAKE SOME NOIOOIOISE"
- every beaver stadium song

only Horseonatreadmill will get this

You put those words together, those are my favorite words, Popeyes and bahama

DJ KHALED. +1

I have often stated (perhaps not here, but in daily life) the banning of "stick it in" is when our running game of old began to make its way out the door. I'm dead certain that stats in no way back up this claim, but whenever everyone's been drinking at tailgates and bars it gains legs (not our kinda legs, but "wait...maybe...hell yeah." kind legs).
I'm all for it...but I am not gonna hold my breath.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Bring back Stick It In and let LSU play neck

I hated "stick it in." Seemed to me like it tended to stiffen (pun intended) the resolve of the defense...

Stick It In was banned prior to the 2007 season.

That was the year Tyrod and Darren Evans arrived on campus. He next year saw RMFW arrive, followed by DMFW the year after that. 2011 brought in highly touted Michael Holmes.

Things fell apart after that.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

Don't know if that's sarcasm with Michael Holmes being highly touted

Maybe highly "bouted"?

Sorry. Trying to make a play on words referencing his arrest for fighting. Too soon?

He was a 4 star guy but folded when he got kicked off the team before his second season

I voted for stick it in. I miss it. I think having anything over the speakers but an announcer during the game is a travesty. But I'm old and set in my ways. Bring back the bands!

Me too.

Me too.

Still trying to figure out if this is a #metoo joke. Could be, given that we're talking about Stick It In.

"Yes I am going to have favorites. My favorites are high production and low maintenance players, coaches, and staff." - JMFF

Holy crap. Read the article, that's some pretty strong (added) lyrics:

Why did they stop playing it at Alabama games? Mostly because the student section made up their own call-and-response to one verse.

Spend my dollar (ON HAM)

Parked in a holler 'neath the mountain moonlight (ROLL HAM)

Hold her up tight (JUST LIKE HAM)

Make a little lovin' (HAM LOVE)

A little turtle dovin' on a Mason Dixon night (FUCK BEEF)

Fits my life (AND CHICKEN TOO)

Oh so right (DELICIOUS HAM!)

My Dixieland Delight

ROLL HAM!

wut?

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

Anyone got a video to hear how this goes live? Because this reads a the stupidest football call-and-response ever.

Pro bringing back stick it in. Nothing wrong with a little sexual innuendo on a college campus

I happen to agree with these lyrics

West Virginian by birth, Hokie by choice

Still one of the funnist things I have ever seen on Youtube!!

I lovw how you can see Corso is totally into it.

Right up there with his 'Awe Fuck it' clip at Houston.

Pitt and WVU need to play more often

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

So... It was more the repetitive "FUCK AUBURN" than all the random bullshit about ham.

Still doesn't make any sense to me.

I thought it was pretty cool. Stadium was rocking, the course part is fine but like you said the constant "FUCK AUBURN" during the verses definitely was the demise.

Can't spell DBU without Bud

That was actually kind of awesome

By stupidest you probably mean 'most likely to be invented at a crowd at an SEC football game', which sounds like s synonym to me and therefore I support it wholeheartedly. Let people be idiots and let me join them in laughing at ourselves!

I'm glad they like it. Crowd's into it so I approve. Still reads as the stupidest chant. absolutely no idea where Ham fits in and all I can really here is Fuck Auburn which I agree with so can't fault them there.

It has come to light that the article (post? blog?) pulled a fast one on us. The chant was never about ham and/or bacon, it was about Auburn, Tennessee, sex, and alcohol the whole time.

Since people are taking this literally, I'll point out the actual lyrics are about drinking beer, making love, and cursing Auburn and Tennessee. Paraphrasing a comment on the article, "Messing with outsiders who will believe almost anything they hear about us is an old southern tradition that Spencer [the author] takes very seriously".

I wanted to believe in the ham, but something that irreverent and fun would never fly in Alabama.

-Semper Primus

It took me a second to figure out you were referring to Alabama. That is literally the only place something like this might work

Onward and upward

Yes! Bring it back! Two years ago during the Hokies for the Hungry game tailgate, I tried so hard to get the band to play Stick it In. They were walking around tailgates and taking song requests for donations. I offered $100 for them to play Stick it In. The leader wanted to do it so bad, but said they would get in trouble. We settled at $50 for Tech Triumph.

Here's the reason it went away...

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

I know it isn't "family friendly", but its pretty darn funny.

Is coronavirus over yet?

Bama is high on my cfb bucket list just so I can be a part of this song. I love it.

Always loved "Stick it in". No idea what you folks mean when you refer to a "sexual innuendo". It clearly means for our offense to stick the ball in the end zone which is obviously something we have an issue with from the 1 yard line... (if you really need me to put /s, you have bigger problems.)

Regardless of the cheer that went with it, "Stick It In" my favorite part is the absolutely infectious build up and drumline. Honestly, I'd be fine with altering the cheer to keep the wet blanket types happy if it meant we could bring back that drumline.

You'll never be able to force the student section to do anything different to the same cadence (which is the word you were looking for instead of "drumline", which refers to the drummers themselves).

It's been gone for what, 11 years? Why couldn't the student section do something different with it now? How many of them would know the original "Stick it in" cadence to begin with?

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Some will remember from going to games as a child. Some have seen the t-shirts and asked about it, or maybe saw a video on Youtube. Others will be informed by older friends or family. The rest will learn on game day.

Graduated in '17. I remember the chant and cadence from going to games when I was younger. The majority know the phrase but don't know the cadence at all which is the bigger problem. There would be occasional chants of Stick it in! Around me in North End Zone but not anywhere close to the real chant. I agree people would figure it out but it definitely would require a reeducation since it's been too long since we stopped doing it.

Can't spell DBU without Bud

I remember screaming the chant at the top of my lungs when I was around 9 years old. One of my favorite parts of the game and I had no clue what it could have meant. So stupid it got canned.

For sure, I have similar memories of stick it in. Also fond and not so fond memories were '05 Miami game first time I saw somebody flip the bird. '07 FSU doing the Chop to taunt them along with the famous 3rd and 31. '09 Nebraska was memorable for the last 2 minutes.

Can't spell DBU without Bud

I mean you're trying to be sarcastic but there's a huge difference between "stick it in" and "Fuck Auburn" or "suck that tiger dick, bitch". There is 0 reason stick it in can't be played

Free Hugh

I find it absolutely friggin' hilarious that as much as Alabama and Tennessee hate each other that Bama sings a song about Tennessee at their games. Yeah, I know the band name is Alabama, but the song is about Tennessee.

Rolling down a backwoods Tennessee byway...

On a Tennessee Saturday night

And before anyone argues that it's about the Tennessee River that runs through parts of Alabama, just know that they were inspired to write the song driving on Route 11 in TN.

And, as always, Make Stick It In Great Again!!!

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

Yup. Kind of like how WVU sings a song written about West-ern Virginia.

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

I love that Bama staff thinks that this has any chance of going any different than how the song used be.

(add if applicable) /s

Oh yea this will be the loudest Fuck Auburn they have ever heard. Too bad it's during our game

Ask me no questions, and I'll tell you no lies

Maybe we will catch it on a commercial break. I'm sure I'll be flipping between these games at least early on during commercials because I'm here for the Tua show.

Unpopular opinion time.... Dixieland Delight is a terribly overrated and overplayed song that makes me want to throw something at the radio every time it comes on.

this was my thought too. Seems like a pretty easy song to avoid

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

I find this hilarious.

I'm really glad to see this. I think it's hilarious and actually flows great.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

I really couldn't care any less about stick it in.

Couldn't care any less means you care the most, no?

uva - the taint of the ACC
Callused perineum is a symptom of being a uva fan

Nah that's 'I could care less' = 'I care a lot and caring less is possible'

Whereas for me, I do not care about it at all, therefore I cannot care less. I am careless. I lack caring about this. I am full of not caring. I contain apathy.

I don't care about stick it in, but I do care about crowd participation. Stick it in, singing enter sandman, doing the Hokie polite, doing let's go Hokies, these are all things that make the Gameday experience awesome in my opinion. We need more of that and less canned music. I want Lane rocking like a European soccer stadium with the crowd shanting/singing/dancing in unison.*

*not all traditions like this are equal. LOLUVa singing the good olde song sucks, let there be no mistake.

66,000 people shanting in unison would be a disgusting mess

Haha nice catch. Chanting, not shanting. I don't even know what shanting would be.

Fixed it for you.

Stick it in was stupid

"Look at this... This is just spectacular.... These people are losing their minds"

That is only because you can't appropriately participate with the need to stand on all fours and all.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

As a student, I loved the stick it in chant...now I kind of understand where Weaver was coming from. If it was a cute innuendo, I would be all for it. But when you see dudes literally bending over coeds and air humping them, it's not something I want to be associated with.

Obviously, this is "a few rotten apples spoil the bunch" situation but trying to tell drunken 19-year-old bros to behave during a football game is a losing battle.

But when you see dudes literally bending over coeds and air humping them, it's not something I want to be associated with.

Maybe the problem isn't the song. Maybe the problem is that we're too concerned with hiding the ultra-macho bend a coed over and hump her culture than actually addressing the behavior itself.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

You're not wrong.

I can't say that I ever saw anyone bending another student over and humping them as part of stick it in. Who are these animals? That to me would be lewd enough for dismissal from the game. 99% is just a few hip thrusts and pumps of the arms.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

99% is just a few hip thrusts and pumps of the arms.

If it was 100%, I would be all for it. Unfortunately, it's 99.9%. With social media, that .1% can easily turn into problems that administration doesn't want to deal with (especially in the hypersensitive environment we live in)...I could easily envision a headline from a Jezebel-type website that tries to tie "Stick it In" to college rape culture with a picture of a .1% bro.

As a rational human being, this is a stupid reason to get rid of a chant. If I was an administrator, that's the type of shit I'm worried about (outside of the obvious/important things administrators worry about).

So attack that culture head on. Let those articles come out, let those people embarrass themselves and be prepared to deal with anyone caught doing it. Dont hide that behavior, weed it out and shame it out of existence.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Let those articles come out, let those people embarrass themselves and be prepared to deal with anyone caught doing it.

That would work if the article states that "Bro McBro" was the one embarrassing themselves. What the article is probably going to say is "Virginia Tech student Bro McBro" or "Virginia Tech students" are embarrassing themselves.

I'm not saying the image isn't more important than the root problem. What I'm saying is that VT's admin primarily doesn't want a Baylor situation and secondarily doesn't want the illusion of a Baylor situation. Obviously, Stick It In ≠ Baylor but you can see how someone with an agenda can manipulate the facts.

It's 2018, everyone with an image to protect is afriad of the SJW boogyman even if there's nothing to hide.

You know how you don't turn into a Baylor situation? Actually punishing those caught in the act, and possibly weeding a few bad apples out on your own.

In fact, trying to deny that you have a problem and doing what you can to prevent the world from seeing that you have that problem is how you have a Baylor situation happen.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Trying to lasso the conversation back to its starting point...if you were an administrator, would you keep the chant with the risk of blowback or just get rid of it as it's not an integral part of the gameday experience?

Get rid of it. But not because I'm trying to hide behavior. It just ain't worth the endless calls from certain alumni who melt down over seeing the MVs (men and women) pelvic thrust on broadcasts. Which happens to be the reason we eliminated it in the first place.

But if we did bring it back, do so with the explicit understanding that any student caught going over the line will be dealt with harshly. And then follow through with it.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

All this reminds me of the old South Carolina bumper stickers I used to see when I visited my mom. "You can't beat our Cocks" and "Our Cocks are up and Coming" are the ones I remember. I think stick it in was definitely suggestive, but those bumper stickers were downright embarrassing.
