I remember Joe Thiesman doing that once with Washington. I don't remember the exact scenario but there were a few too many seconds left on the clock, it was 4th down, and the opponent still had a time-out. So the question was, how do you burn the clock with zero risk of a turnover? Thiesman took the snap and zig-zagged backward to the end zone. Time expired, the other team got two points, and Washington got the win.
Suffice to say, this was not that scenario.

Meh. They had 3 straight penalties that backed them up...that without being tight to the goal line to begin with would have cost them 30 yards. They were out of sync. And given the real chance of Beamerball popping it's head up, and a punter having less than 15 yards, a safety was a real option to save them from giving up 7 points.

It also didn't help that the main camera had some sort of issue going on. I don't know if they had to pull out some old equipment and we got a SD camera or what. The image looked like it was put through the watercolor filter on Photoshop. Yet, all of the cutaway shots and alternate angles had decent pictures.

Still wasn't as frustrating as hearing Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson call the Sun Bowl against UCLA. They talked up that guy from Hampden Sydney for like 10 minutes and then how much fun it was to call the "Kick Six" Iron Bowl. It felt like watching a football game while they were just talking.
SEC commentators can't call games outside of their conference. ACC commentators can't call games within their conference.

Those two were awful, but the game on Saturday was worse. Beyond their complete lack of prep I've never heard one guy ask the other a question only for the second guy to answer a completely difference question or not even acknowledge that one was asked.

I agree ODU is the worst broadcast but disagree on the reasoning. They had the obvious wrong names and generally didn't know much about the team, but they had the biggest fucking boner for ODU to pull off the upset. All game that shit was annoying and at the time I didn't have the slightest thought that we would lose to ODU. I thought surely that our coaching staff would be capable of winning with our better talent

The only time I've been able to get that to work was the Pitt game last year. It was in perfect sync.
I tried it during the ODU game, but the delay on the TV was too much. In the time it took the TV to come back from commercial and set the play up, I had already heard the play on the radio and had time to repeat it to my buddy.

if you use the tune-in radio app on your phone instead of the actual radio you can pause the radio broadcast to line up with the TV broadcast. This works most of the time and is my go-to for games with crappy announcers.

They are all insanely bad. I can't stand announcers, wtf are they doing during the week, not studying film from the teams. They practice the players names for an hour and then they call the game for 4 hours.
The last good announcer we had for one of our games was years ago when David Pollack called a game. He was talented and did his homework. It was refreshing, but then espn moved him off of calling games because he was too much better than everyone else.

That reminds me of a time when I was trying to install magnetic locks on the cabinets under the kitchen sink. I had to be careful about how I was drilling the holes for the magnets to insert into, because I didn't want them to go all the way through the cabinet, but I kept having problems with the holes being wide enough. So I'm getting frustrated with that, and it was on a fall Sunday afternoon when the Redskins were playing the 4 PM game. I have the TV on in the background to see the local Fox station having difficulty with relaying the feed from Fox for the early game, so that's adding to the frustration because I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to see the game.
Then I ended up drilling a hole all the way through the cabinet door anyway. (It's been four or five years, and I still haven't gotten around to actually fixing that hole.)

I run the Tune In through my phone (or iPad) through the sound bar - the TuneIn App will let you 'pause' to sync if the radio is ahead of the TV. From my experience, the TV is always ahead of the TuneIn App broadcast, so I pause the TV and let the app catch up. Xfinity let's you pause Live TV - unsure about other setups though.

Only away game I've been able to successfully stream through my Google Home Assistant is the FSU game. For ODU, Duke and UNC I've had to rely on my 30-year old alarm clock, whose speaker is hit or miss at times.

They all suck. However, I will contend that the ODU commentating from Carter "pre-pubescent" Blackburn and Aaron "Ex-Football Moron" Taylor was the pinnacle of suck.
[ASIDE] I have said it before on these boards and will say it again now: I watched the National Championship game on ESPN3 using the "Sound of the Game" viewer where ESPN offers you the option of no commentators whatsoever. This experience was akin to flying cross-country in first class because it has ruined me for every game henceforth. Thus, if ESPN allowed me to pay an annual subscription fee to only have the sounds of the game for all sporting events, I would pay it gladly. I can't even begin to tell you what my price sensitivity would be for this "service," but it's easily a couple hundred dollars per year if it included all sporting events.
The paid professional "announcers" like the aforementioned Carter "pre-pubescent" Blackburn are bad enough [ANOTHER ASIDE: Did anyone notice that Blackburn kept calling us the "Hoagies" during that shitsuck game?], but then you throw on top of that the quentisential ex-football moron who thinks we tune in to the game just listen to them talk, or think we absolutely need/crave/want their "expert insight." Bullshit. Nobody cares about how rock-hard your veiny football-boner got watching dudes knocking heads "like a couple of rams" on a goal-line stand back in 1993, Mr. Commentator. We all have our own massive football boners to deal with week-in and week-out, and we certainly don't need you yucking it up about your days in the sun when your football boner was the biggest it's ever been.
Now if anybody needs me, I'll be over here handling my bye-week football boner.

I will admit, I was at Busch Gardens for my annual trip to Howl-O-Scream, drunk, riding roller coasters and was simply updating the Game Tracker.
When it hit 2 minutes left in the 4th and the ball showed in UNCs hands on our 2 yard line, I decided I wouldn't look at it again so I wouldn't kill my vibe.
Booted my phone up at 12am on the car ride back home and about woke everyone up.
I can't attest to the commentating, but from the sounds of it I'm glad I wasn't tuned in.

We go every year so there's not much change from year to year, but it's always pretty good.
I mainly enjoy the "pomp and circumstance" of Halloween and admiring the decorations, time/effort, and costumes that they put into it.
Typically, you can only get through 2 haunted houses because lines are so long, so after 5ish years of going and considering we might have to end the tradition because we're expecting, our friends and I went all out and got the unlimited quick queue passes this year.
That's a game changer. If you can afford it, it's amazing. Every roller coaster and haunted house all day long we would just walk by about 2,000 people and get right on. I think we saved about 12-15 hours per person of line standing total throughout the day, and we honestly didn't ride as many coasters as we could have.
If you go, I have a few tips... We typically will split preferred parking amongst people, we bring a cooler of beer and liquor with lunch. It's super easy to walk in/out of the park, pound drinks in the parking lot and eat without having to spend $30 per person on lunch and/or $10 per beer.

I didn't think they were biased actually. FSU has the better athletes and hype with a new coach. We didn't have anything but poor news coming out of the off-season. Near the end of the game it was all praise for our D (which we all know was premature).

Honestly, I thought Flutie and the other guy did a pretty good job with the 2016 Notre Dame broadcast. They were obviously homering for ND, but the reason why is obvious. Other than that, both guys had done their homework, had smart things to say, and the camera crew was top notch.

I almost never criticize announcers, they are usually decent to good and can be forgiven for making mistakes about a team they don't follow every day or being semi-biased for a top team or during a big upset. However, these announcers were so terrible right from the get go. They not only got names and facts wrong throughout, but they also made nonsensical, inane, and sometimes weirdly sexual comments. For me it was exemplified when the play-by-play announcer said "When I talked to Ricky Walker, he told me something that will stick with me all year. He said that he's been here for 5 years so he understands how to work hard."
Really? That statement of mundane fact was so profound to you it will stick with you all year?

Alright the Sun Bowl with Verne was pretty bad. He was brilliant at SEC games but clearly didn't give a damn about our game.
Now, onto the important story:
I was watching some bullshit BC game a few years back that Matt Millen and Sean McDonough were calling. The game was nearly over I think, and the stands were pretty sparse. Since it's so quiet, I can hear a student in the background somewhere yell, 'MATT MILLEN! YOU STINK!'. It was clear as day. McDonough chuckled for a minute and Millen...sounded like he was smiling. Funniest moment I've ever heard on a football broadcast. I laughed for a good five minutes.

I don't pay a lot of attention to commentary, but I remember watching a football game in the late 80's / early 90's and the commentator said "The defense is swarming in like SURREALISTIC BATS!"
Also, here's a best / worst. It was a Rose Bowl when they started using sideline reporters, and the lead commentator didn't seem to like the idea. One team kept having players go out due to cramping, and they kept cutting down to Holly Rowe and she was saying how cramping was a major issue. The head commentator responded "Well, Holly, you should know a little something about that".....I almost died laughing.

I have the TV on in the background to see the local Fox station having difficulty with relaying the feed from Fox for the early game, so that's adding to the frustration because I'm not sure if I'll actually be able to see the game.
Then I ended up drilling a hole all the way through the cabinet door anyway. (It's been four or five years, and I still haven't gotten around to actually fixing that hole.)
Unless Fowler and Herbstreit are calling our game, I put Laaser and Burnop on TuneIn and sync their broadcast with the TV and mute the TV.
How do you sync the TuneIn broadcast? or are you doing on your TV instead?
The delay in WatchESPN usually makes this impossible for me
I run the Tune In through my phone (or iPad) through the sound bar - the TuneIn App will let you 'pause' to sync if the radio is ahead of the TV. From my experience, the TV is always ahead of the TuneIn App broadcast, so I pause the TV and let the app catch up. Xfinity let's you pause Live TV - unsure about other setups though.
Only away game I've been able to successfully stream through my Google Home Assistant is the FSU game. For ODU, Duke and UNC I've had to rely on my 30-year old alarm clock, whose speaker is hit or miss at times.
Any ideas? Or is it possible I'm getting blacked out since I'm in Christiansburg?
They all suck. However, I will contend that the ODU commentating from Carter "pre-pubescent" Blackburn and Aaron "Ex-Football Moron" Taylor was the pinnacle of suck.
[ASIDE] I have said it before on these boards and will say it again now: I watched the National Championship game on ESPN3 using the "Sound of the Game" viewer where ESPN offers you the option of no commentators whatsoever. This experience was akin to flying cross-country in first class because it has ruined me for every game henceforth. Thus, if ESPN allowed me to pay an annual subscription fee to only have the sounds of the game for all sporting events, I would pay it gladly. I can't even begin to tell you what my price sensitivity would be for this "service," but it's easily a couple hundred dollars per year if it included all sporting events.
The paid professional "announcers" like the aforementioned Carter "pre-pubescent" Blackburn are bad enough [ANOTHER ASIDE: Did anyone notice that Blackburn kept calling us the "Hoagies" during that shitsuck game?], but then you throw on top of that the quentisential ex-football moron who thinks we tune in to the game just listen to them talk, or think we absolutely need/crave/want their "expert insight." Bullshit. Nobody cares about how rock-hard your veiny football-boner got watching dudes knocking heads "like a couple of rams" on a goal-line stand back in 1993, Mr. Commentator. We all have our own massive football boners to deal with week-in and week-out, and we certainly don't need you yucking it up about your days in the sun when your football boner was the biggest it's ever been.

I will admit, I was at Busch Gardens for my annual trip to Howl-O-Scream, drunk, riding roller coasters and was simply updating the Game Tracker.
When it hit 2 minutes left in the 4th and the ball showed in UNCs hands on our 2 yard line, I decided I wouldn't look at it again so I wouldn't kill my vibe.
Booted my phone up at 12am on the car ride back home and about woke everyone up.
I can't attest to the commentating, but from the sounds of it I'm glad I wasn't tuned in.
...but it was the perfect way to get through this game.
How was it this year?
We go every year so there's not much change from year to year, but it's always pretty good.
I mainly enjoy the "pomp and circumstance" of Halloween and admiring the decorations, time/effort, and costumes that they put into it.
Typically, you can only get through 2 haunted houses because lines are so long, so after 5ish years of going and considering we might have to end the tradition because we're expecting, our friends and I went all out and got the unlimited quick queue passes this year.
That's a game changer. If you can afford it, it's amazing. Every roller coaster and haunted house all day long we would just walk by about 2,000 people and get right on. I think we saved about 12-15 hours per person of line standing total throughout the day, and we honestly didn't ride as many coasters as we could have.
If you go, I have a few tips... We typically will split preferred parking amongst people, we bring a cooler of beer and liquor with lunch. It's super easy to walk in/out of the park, pound drinks in the parking lot and eat without having to spend $30 per person on lunch and/or $10 per beer.

My all time favorite commentating line is mentioning Logan Thomas' size and TE background at least 3 times before halftime. Never gets old.
Any game that isn't commentated by Herbie and Fowler IMO is just the worst. Those two do a great job of giving quality commentary. Anyone else I might as well burst my own ear drum.

I didn't think they were biased actually. FSU has the better athletes and hype with a new coach. We didn't have anything but poor news coming out of the off-season. Near the end of the game it was all praise for our D (which we all know was premature).
Honestly, I thought Flutie and the other guy did a pretty good job with the 2016 Notre Dame broadcast. They were obviously homering for ND, but the reason why is obvious. Other than that, both guys had done their homework, had smart things to say, and the camera crew was top notch.
I almost never criticize announcers, they are usually decent to good and can be forgiven for making mistakes about a team they don't follow every day or being semi-biased for a top team or during a big upset. However, these announcers were so terrible right from the get go. They not only got names and facts wrong throughout, but they also made nonsensical, inane, and sometimes weirdly sexual comments. For me it was exemplified when the play-by-play announcer said "When I talked to Ricky Walker, he told me something that will stick with me all year. He said that he's been here for 5 years so he understands how to work hard."
Really? That statement of mundane fact was so profound to you it will stick with you all year?

Alright the Sun Bowl with Verne was pretty bad. He was brilliant at SEC games but clearly didn't give a damn about our game.
Now, onto the important story:
I was watching some bullshit BC game a few years back that Matt Millen and Sean McDonough were calling. The game was nearly over I think, and the stands were pretty sparse. Since it's so quiet, I can hear a student in the background somewhere yell, 'MATT MILLEN! YOU STINK!'. It was clear as day. McDonough chuckled for a minute and Millen...sounded like he was smiling. Funniest moment I've ever heard on a football broadcast. I laughed for a good five minutes.
I don't pay a lot of attention to commentary, but I remember watching a football game in the late 80's / early 90's and the commentator said "The defense is swarming in like SURREALISTIC BATS!"
Also, here's a best / worst. It was a Rose Bowl when they started using sideline reporters, and the lead commentator didn't seem to like the idea. One team kept having players go out due to cramping, and they kept cutting down to Holly Rowe and she was saying how cramping was a major issue. The head commentator responded "Well, Holly, you should know a little something about that".....I almost died laughing.
The announcers for the Duke game were worse.

If we're veering off to worst commentators ever, I always hated Pat Haden. He was on TNT (Yes, youngins... TNT had the Sunday game for a few seasons.) for awhile, and he was just so fucking smarmy. I just know the guy he worked with punched him in the face at some point off duty.
I know it wasn't our game, but if anyone else caught Lou Holtz and Mark May call the Bahama Bowl in like 2013, it was hilariously bad. Pretty sure it ended on a wild last second touchdown and Lou had zero clue what was going on the whole time.
