I'm a little surprised at how we're ranked too. I think the 16/19 rank is fitting, but I would have expected 16 in the Coaches' and 19 in the AP. I would expect the coaches to appreciate the hard-nosed style we have with the D dominating, and the media to hold us back a bit based on the lack of "style" in the wins.

It seems they prefer to give teams, such as Duke, a 4th chance at each conversion. Seriously, though this is not Frank Beamer's style, we might want to just go for it on every drive against them! Give A. J. Hughes a well-deserved break, hahaha!

I was checking out cfbstats, and another pretty sweet stat about our defense is that we are currently tied at #1 in the nation with Alabama for redzone attempts at 11. The fact that opponents have only been inside our 25 yard line 11 times in 7 games is simply ridiculous. If you add to that, it would actually be 1 less due to the fact that we have turned the ball over inside our 25 at least once this year(could be more, I only remember the muffed punt vs WCU).

There are big discrepancies in the AP and coaches poll this week. Oklahoma is 17 in AP and 12 in Coaches. Auburn is 11 in AP and 17 in coaches. Okie State is 19 in AP and 13 in Coaches. Seems like a much bigger gap for schools that usual.

That being said. Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Baylor all still have to play one another this season. Those schools will be shuffling a lot. Mizzou still has USCe and A&M. A&M still has LSU, LSU still has Bama.
If we keep winning and beat a highly ranked Miami team, we will climb into the top 10 mighty quickly

Until Virginia Tech puts together a game where the defense, offense, and special teams show up and make great plays, this team probably won't get a ton of national love. If you aren't putting the ball in the endzone with more frequency then the Hokies are, it's hard to get notice.
Margin of Victory matters.

Agreed, it's easier to get ranked high if you put up half a hundred and win by a touchdown than it is to hold your opponent to 16 and win by a field goal.

I personally don't care if we win the rest of our games by 1 point each, if we're fortunate, including the ACCCG (if we end up winning out). We'll still end up in a big bowl game.

I want to beat Duke 1st, then BC. Then I want Miami to pull out a miracle win against FSU....be somewhere around #5 or better, then lose to us. Also some wings and some beer and a Sam Rogers touchdown. Oh, and another two UVA losses while we are at it. That will due.....for now. Thanks.

Up one spot on a bye week with all the chaos sounds about right. Clemson staying in the top 10 is a bit surprising.
Do I get credit for accidentally calling it?
Ha, sure. Have a turkey leg. Clemson is at #9 in the AP, too.
There's a middle chunk of SEC teams right above us that are going to fall at some point. Auburn, A&M, LSU... No way those three teams keep winning.
LSU plays A&M pretty soon, I think. So there's at least one 3-loss team in there.
I may have given them more than a one spot bump, but not much more. All that matters is they keep winning
AP should move us up more right? We were already 19th in AP.
I'm more than happy with 16th & 19th this week. Now let's show d00k how WE play football!
Hmm do the coaches even watch football?

Yup, I'm surprised by that too. The writers normally don't give us much credit..it's the coaches this time that are jealous of our defense :)
To be fair he only looks at the Third down Defense numbers before voting.

I thought the red zone was the 20, no?
I am not willing to go to wikipedia to back you up, but will instead just assume that as a 21 year old I am infallible. It is the 20 yard line.
Yeah I have no idea these days. It probably is. Still pretty impressive though.
They obviously didn't watch Miami play
16th in the AP. Solid week for not even playing.
Edit: Speaking of moving up without playing, cbssports has us at #9 in their power poll.

Would say 19th is fairly realistic right now. Our O has to keep showing improvement.

The coaches were too busy drowning their sorrows after being upset this week to pay enough attention to their votes.

yeah I think we're ranked abt right. noone is going to give us love except from our d until we do a little more on offense

Yup, that is the perception of greatest in box score rankings.

Meh.
Also 19 in Harris Poll too.

Nahhhh... I'd rather beat an undefeated FSU and ruin their chances at a national championship.
2000, never forgive.
This but not for the vikings.
Done, but I get everything else - and no cheap beer! Gimme the good stuff.
We're 14th in the BCS standings
