Does anyone else have the "Rack City" song stuck in their head?
Yes, unfortunately.
sack city, sack sack city b*tch
10, 20, 50 yards lost on those tackles bitch
Accidentally hit the down vote button on my phone! Someone pick him up? So sorry!
my first downvote. oh no!!
Our D-Line's in your backfield, no guest list
Brilliant!!! Love it!! #sackcitybitch
I love the Dadi sack where savage just got out of it then went to the ground as three Hokies were swarming him like "OH SHIT"
Sack city bitch sack sack city bitch
The O-line neutralized when we hit it bitch.
this just made my day, made the bye week easier to get through
Holy crap- I need to tackle somebody. Is SACKCITYBITCH an acceptable excuse for tackling random strangers walking down the street???
There's only one way to find out
If you're in Charlottesville, don't ask questions. Just go for it.
there is only 1 sack where you can't see Dadi somewhere in the play
I think he might actually be in every play where there was a sack. Hard to tell whether it's 98 (Skip) or 90 (Dadi) on the ground at the beginning of the second to last sack.
Camera angle for the 4th GIF down where Gayle is running up behind Savage is glorious.
so many sacks to choose from, i dont know which one l like best
...said Debbie Does Dallas....
high five
Call me a stick-in-the-mud, but I really don't find adding "bitch" to "sackcity" to be all that great.
You must not be a Breaking Bad fan.
Never watched it. Heard great things about its production values, but just can't get into rooting for bad guys.
whoa...
I didn't downvote you for this (it was close) but who ever said you have to root for the bad guy to enjoy a television series? Or any type of creative story telling? Not trying to pick on this too much but here is a list of what is considered to be the top ten books of all time:
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Hamlet by William Shakespeare
The Great Gatsby F. Scott Fitzgerald
In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust
The Stories of Anton Chekhov by Anton Chekhov
Middlemarch by George Eliot
(not to mention Catcher in the Rye, On Golden Pond, Of Mice and Men, To Kill a Mockingbird, Count of Monte Cristo, etc)
Not a single protagonist in any of these are a "good" guy. They are all complicated, rich characters with serious flaws. Some much more than others. And this is why Breaking Bad is so good. It is quite rightly referred to as a masterpiece of literature on television. Walter White is a "good" guy who gets caught up in circumstances of his own making whereby his decisions to delve deeper are more often then not done for what he feels are righteous reasons. You don't have to root for him. It's obvious which direction he is headed but his decent is what makes it so fascinating because of the very fact that he is at his core a common, "good" man.
done. go and enjoy one of the best shows ever
.........

Breaking Bad is a good drama but it's not that good.
It's great.
I upvoted you because you make a great argument.
My problem isn't that there aren't many good ways to tell a story about bad people, or even good people doing bad things. And I'm not saying Breaking Bad isn't one of those. I wouldn't know, because I haven't had the time or inclination to include it in my limited rotation of entertainment options.
My problem is that so often anymore, people root on the bad guys doing bad things and don't give a second (or in many cases a first) thought to the deeper story being told. And in many, many cases, there really isn't a deeper story being told at all, rather the film-maker is creating a revenge-violence fantasy vehicle for the lowest common denominator. And sadly, in many cases, the story is crafted specifically to create a sense of moral equivalence between a person doing terribly evil things, and the rest of us squares who follow the rules.
This is really as far as I want to go here. This isn't a place for me to have deeper philosophical debate on the merits of Hollywood -- I have other places I do that. I like this place simply for VT football.
So, without knowing that adding "bitch" to something made it "breaking bad cool", I opined that it cheapened what are really great football plays.
That said, even knowing that it makes it "breaking bad cool", I still don't see how it does anything but cheapen really great football plays. I'd like to really think that our sack-masters aren't calling opposing QB's bitches either on the field or even off the field. I'd like to think that respect for our opponents is one of the first things our players learn, because anything less than that and we're trending back towards Marcus Vick territory.
I had no idea I was going to be taken to task or down-voted over a simple differing of opinion. I certainly didn't down-vote all the "blah blah blah, bitch" comments.
I'm not sure why I'd get down-voted for having an opinion, but hey, if that's how some of you roll, them's the breaks, and I'll take it into consideration on future up/down votes from my end.
I upvoted your comments to offset people being trolls. I seriously hope that TKP doesn't devolve into a downvoting, tit-for-tat pissing contest over silly things. You know what?
You had an opinion and you expressed it. I have never been afraid to do the same here on TKP because we're a very constructive community. Leave the other stuff to Sting Talk and The Sabre (which in my head is absolutely pronounced "le sah-bwah").
I applaud your high-minded ideals for how our team should behave. I think they are doing a good job of that. As fans, we can do as we like and I, for one, have been known to get a little (shall we say) boisterous after big hits. I think that's all that is at play here. Our D is crushing people and it's fun to watch. I have fond memories of watching Darryl Tapp annihilate opposing QBs, then offer them a hand up after having demolished their souls. That's the kind of Hokie football I love.
Keep posting and being part of the discussion. Just pull out the Bender gif above as needed.
Thank you for that. I'll definitely put that pic in my collection. I paid you one mostly uneaten turkey leg for it. I hope that's enough.
I was being sarcastic when I said "it was close" to me down voting. It wasn't. I only do that for offensive things.
And appreciate your opinion back. Well played and turkey leg for you good sir. But you're still wrong .. haha..
Nicely explained your point of view. You sir are a scholar and a gentleman.
1) Portrait of the Artist, Joyce
....
The rest
sorry - I had to down vote you. Writing such an eloquent defense of "literature on television" CANNOT include TWO grammatical/vocabulary errors.
"Walter White is a "good" guy who gets caught up in circumstances of his own making whereby his decisions to delve deeper are more often then (should be than) not done for what he feels are righteous reasons. You don't have to root for him. It's obvious which direction he is headed but his decent (should be descent) is what makes it so fascinating because of the very fact that he is at his core a common, "good" man.
Otherwise, I could not agree more with your defense. It is nearly Bud-esque.
uh... Thanks, I think...
Down voting for grammar is not cool, but thanks for the the compliment on my eloquent defense.
I wrote that at nearly 3:30 AM my time after a long flight and work all day, so I'm comfortable with my mistakes.
It's all good Fernley. Most of us can look past grammar errors...since this website is just for FUN.
Not like we're all writing a #1 seller here. Geez people....
It's been fight on which I have given up. To correct the grammar of all is simply unobtainable, as frustrating as that may be. There will always be people who don't care enough to change their errors. Just ask every 'Hoo.
i dunno wut your talkin about
Thanks AMB. And by the way, still working on the Battle at Bristol crowd funding initiative. Will contact you on the boards once I get it sorted.
No prob Buddy. Work your funding magic LOL!! :)
I also haven't watched Breaking Bad, but I'll still nitpick on the books that I have read, but commenting on the ones that I have read. Also High School was over a decade ago for me, so I apologize if I get any of the details wrong:
First can I get a source on the list of Top Ten books because I would probably come up with a different list.
While Huck Finn certainly has flaws, especially at the beginning of the book. It's a coming of age story and many of his flaws are related to his youth, as he grows up he makes choices that move him towards being a "good" guy.
Hamlet is a play not a book.
I personally wasn't a huge fan of The Great Gatsby. Maybe I was just too young at 16 to "get" the book, but I don't think its a top ten book. No quarrel about the characters not being "good" though.
I would consider Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird a pretty clear cut "good" guy. I'm not sure if he would be considered the protagonist since most of the story is told from Scout's perspective (once again if I'm remembering correctly).
In The Count of Monte Cristo(working from film version, haven't read the book), I agree that Dantez isn't a "good" character, but I do find myself rooting for him anyway.
I also think the list is missing some very important books. I think that either Animal Farm or 1984 deserve to be on there. Out of the two Orwell classics, I prefer Animal Farm, but 1984 would probably be considered the better book by English teachers/professors. Several others as well but its time for me to head home from work.
haha... a literature spark on a TKP thread. awesome, only on TKP.
some caveats though:
a) I stated that some of the protagonists are more flawed than others. My point was that the protagonist is flawed in some measure, not completely flawed and not following the same path as Walter White.
b) the list I used was by no means meant to be definitive. I just did a simple search to find one that had been used in two different locations. I certainly did not research this more than a google search, but here are the 2 websites I found as a cross reference:
http://content.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1578073,00.html
http://www.openculture.com/2013/09/the-10-greatest-books-ever.html
As I said many great and equally justifiably top 10 books are missing from the list. Such as: Ulysses, Portrait of the Artist (shout out to HOAT), Brave New World, Sound and the Fury, Catch-22, etc
Huck Finn: Yes you are right, it is a coming of age story but one that deals with the serious topic of racism in the south. Huck is flawed from his rough upbringing that shapes and distorts his views on society at the beginning of the book. The rough upbringing whereby he was forced to raise himself mostly also allows him to overcome societal norms and make his own decisions about race and thus helping Jim. This is contrasted with Tom Sawyer. Starts flawed and makes decisions that lead to good.
hamlet: agreed. it was just on the list. dude is seriously flawed though.
gatsby: agreed. not my favorite book. again just on the list.
Mockingbird: Atticus is the closest to a truly "good" character but you have to remember that the book is told from Scout's perspective. She loves him wholeheartedly and believes he is a paragon of truth and morality. This may or may not be true, but it is true from this perspective. Atticus' main flaw is likely that he trust too much in the morality of others and thus is naive. Example being when he believed the mob would not try to lynch or that Ewell would not act out his threats of revenge.
Cristo: Agreed. Not a good guy but you root for him. This is a classic revenge scenario where you want the slightly less, and much cooler, bad guy to win.
You must accept that you are the bad guy
It's actually from a song called rack city that goes "rack city bitch, rack rack city bitch." Insert sack for rack and yeah.
Downvoted for all this?
Seriously?
That's pretty shallow.
Love this! So awesome! I could watch these GIF's all day!
(in my Count Dracula voice:)
Eight.....eight sacks!
Ah - hah - hah - hah!
These are great! #6 is my favorite! Love how he just resorts to the fetal position!
Like Buster Bluth in Arrested Development
Too bad VT won't have any huge games at home this year. I can just imagine Musberger, "You are looking live, at Sacksburg, Virginia. Home of the Hokies, Fosterball, and dominating defenses."
I hate Musberger, but I completely read that whole thing with his voice in my head
well done
Whoa, how did he know?
When Morgan Freeman decides that something shall come to be it comes to be.
Love him or hate him, he does have that iconic opening phrase and a reverberating voice.
Me too, cuz I'm so old, I remember when Mushburger was one of the new breed of broadcasters. Man! I miss Keith Jackson, old Mushmouth isn't worthy to fill his coffee cup.
Gotta give a turkey leg.....Keith Jackson was simply the best.......
Agree totally. Jackson was the man!
Sack city!
One smart thing about Tom Savage? When he knows the sack is inevitable, he just goes down instead of letting himself get destroyed.
Good way to play longer.
Thanks for the new Desktop Wallpaper!
This is what happens when opposing QBs see the Hokie D Line coming at them:

I'd be curious for French, or others in the know to weigh in:
Does Dadi have any kind of technique, or is he just a raw MoFo?
From what I can tell, he has a blindingly fast first step and stays low. Once he gets his inside arm around the OT, he's gone, game over.
As the guy in the LED bulb commercial said, "Goodnight, sweet prince..." [to tom savage]
I'm in the Navy, but my site is run by the Department of Energy ('nucular' stuff...)
The acronym "W.I.N." used by the safety folks if you encounter dangerous situations is "Warn, Isolate, Notify". This could be an alternative to "what's important now" applied to our DL or backers when approaching the back field.
I like sacksburg better than sack city but that's just me.
I would propose that "Welcome to Sacksburg" be considered for the next TKP shirt.
We could then add a #SackCity to the end.
...so...beautiful...*tear*
