Honestly, I think we are a little high... Yeah chaos, bye week, whatever. Gotta keep improving. Gotta run the ball. Gotta #BEATDUKE. Gotta #SACKCITY. AHHHHHHHHHHHH

We have to take care of business and just play smart football. Imagine if we finish regular season 11-1 with a match up in Charlotte with undefeated FSU. Good for the ACC

I understand completely. it was more directed at the world at large in case anyone is forgetting that if we get ahead of ourselves we set ourselves up for disaster.

Honestly, I can look past anyone because I'm not on the team and my mentality doesn't affect how the players perform. In the event that I overlook a team and they beat us, it only affects me since I become more frustrated since I would have seen it as a game we should have won. The team needs to worry about Duke, then BC, then Miami, but as a fan, I can look ahead to any game I want. So don't mind me as I go ahead and start planning out our starting lineup and the final score for the Battle at Bristol.

I posted a similar sentiment earlier, in 100% agreement.
I keep going back to 2007 because it was so crazy. Things do happen- they did back then and they are right now right in front of us...too tempting to pass up the "What Ifs" as a fan.

Tech's computer average is 8th. That's really strong considering they might have two top-5 wins down the road. If they keep winning they'll move up in the human polls. It's going to be a fun end to the season.

I think the computer rankings throw out your highest and lowest, as a sort of sanity check. I'm also pretty sure that one of them looks at your last 12 games, stretching into last year, so they won't be perfect until the end of the season.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm also pretty sure they throw out the highest and lowest rankings when they do the calculations, but the "NR" is due to the fact that one idiotic computer poll has us at #32... since it's below 25 it's "no ranking." If you look through the computer rankings for all the teams, you'll notice more and more NRs as you get to the 17-25 range

No, that we have the fewest chances of losing compared to everyone ranked ahead of us. If they all lose those important games there's a chance of moving wayyyyyyy up.
I'm giddy. Gotta focus on Duke.

Duke can score points. Any team that can put up numbers can be a problem. And BC has this way of making teams forget they know how to play football. FSU and Clemson both had issues with them. Lulling opponents to sleep is what they do.

I don't think bama is the key..winning out and beating two top 5 teams would be enough..I think Oregon is the team that needs to lose but if bama loses then that's basically the same thing. I don't think ohio st will have enough good wins..

So obviously I'm more focused on Duke because they showed us last year that they aren't a joke anymore. But in 2 weeks Miami plays FSU. I expect FSU to spank them, but who do we pull for?
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I can't root for Miami. Besides, if FSU keeps succeeding, that's good for the ACC, and maybe, just maybe, if a lot of things go right for us, we get a chance to avenge 2000. But you're right, that sequence of events starts with Duke so that's where the focus needs to be - our next game and not anybody else's.

I think the only way we play two top 5 ranked teams is for Miami to beat FSU. Then Miami will stay in top 5 and possibly FSU will be ranked 5th in the ACCCG if we make it that far. If FSU beats Miami then Miami will possibly drop to 10th...if not lower.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Yup our best case scenario is FSU losing a close game to Miami, which legitimizes Miami as a top 5 and keeps FSU's ranking as high as possible. Then FSU bounces back and reels off 4 wins to close the season by dominating WF, Syracuse, Idaho and Florida.

The polls are great and wonderful until we loose! I hope this teams ignores the ranking and just comes out fighting Duke and BC are the real deal... Giant killers both. We still need to improve in order to earn a trip to the Championship. Too much football left to play before we can dream! I want us to be 11-1 and fighting FSU but I don't want us to pull a clemsuck along the way! Go Hokies!!!

I've heard this but I'm not sure I agree. Oregon has UCLA and Stanford next. They both already have a loss. If Oregon wins out, Stanford has at least two losses and UCLA has at least two as well. Then Oregon probably plays UCLA in the PAC12CG, presumably giving them another loss. So UCLA has at least three losses, Stanford two, meanwhile FSU has to play Miami (1 or 2 losses before ACCCG), beat Clemson (1-loss so far), then maybe Miami (1 loss prior to ACCCG) or VT (1 loss before ACCCG, then Miami has 2). Oregon beat Tenn, but Clem/FSU have USCe/Florida before season's end, and I believe your opponents' first-degree opponents factor into your schedule strength. Seems like a toss up to me.

I agree it is a toss up, I feel Oregon's flashy numbers will ultimately put them back ahead. The only way I see FSU staying #2 is if they do to Miami what they did to Clemson and then do it again in the ACCCG.

It is fun to dream but we have the toughest part of our schedule coming up here as well. Worried about Duke first and foremost but also BC @ Chestnut Hill is a very tough outing...Beamer has to get the boys ready for that one and not look ahead to Miami

Seems about right. Can't let up though. I trust that these boys understand that, though.
and FSU is #2. Miami is #7. Clemson #9.
With VT @ 14, that's 4 ACC teams in the Top-15! #goacc
The Hokies are 9th in the CBS power poll:

Its awesome!!!! Also great that the ACC has 4 teams in the top 15
FSU over Oregon at 2 as well.
Started from the bottom now we're here.
With strong computer numbers and continued winning..the sky has no limit haha Duke is next!
Honestly, I think we are a little high... Yeah chaos, bye week, whatever. Gotta keep improving. Gotta run the ball. Gotta #BEATDUKE. Gotta #SACKCITY. AHHHHHHHHHHHH
Gotta GET DAT
Time for VT to play spoiler
Excellent news. We control so much of our own destiny, and I think this team knows it. Keep preparing, keep fighting, keep winning.
The typical KP reaction .gif

We have to take care of business and just play smart football. Imagine if we finish regular season 11-1 with a match up in Charlotte with undefeated FSU. Good for the ACC
Being 14 now, by the time we make it to the acccg we could easily be top 5 ourselves.
Duke. Focus on Duke.
THIS^^^!!!!
I agree, but my hypothetical response was to another hypothetical statement.
I understand completely. it was more directed at the world at large in case anyone is forgetting that if we get ahead of ourselves we set ourselves up for disaster.
If VT cannot look passed Duke, to Miami, then maybe we should not even be talking about a BCS game.
Honestly, I can look past anyone because I'm not on the team and my mentality doesn't affect how the players perform. And a turkey leg for you sir...brilliant logic
I've been focusing one game at a time and wearing the same t shirt every weekend. THESE THINGS EFFECT EVERYTHING DAMMIT
I posted a similar sentiment earlier, in 100% agreement.

That Duke crowd will get after ya
I don't know about anybody else, but to my surprise, this one never actually gets old for me.
Duke actually loves it when we play them at home. They always post how that was the most tickets they sell to a football game is when we are in town.
ACC baby, its about time!
Would be nice if VT could get into the top 10 of the BCS heading into the Miami game.
Tech's computer average is 8th. That's really strong considering they might have two top-5 wins down the road. If they keep winning they'll move up in the human polls. It's going to be a fun end to the season.
Thanks Joe, I saw the projected average earlier today (11). Your right, two top 5 wins would move us into the top 5 at the least.
We would be even higher in the computers, but one labeled "RB" has us NR (Not Ranked)?! Maybe the RB is for our running backs? jk
I think the computer rankings throw out your highest and lowest, as a sort of sanity check. I'm also pretty sure that one of them looks at your last 12 games, stretching into last year, so they won't be perfect until the end of the season.

That computer is probably programmed by ESPN and has coding that says only 2 ACC teams MAX can be top 25.
So you're saying there's a chance...
That we lose to Da U? Lol
No, that we have the fewest chances of losing compared to everyone ranked ahead of us. If they all lose those important games there's a chance of moving wayyyyyyy up.

Duke can score points. Any team that can put up numbers can be a problem. And BC has this way of making teams forget they know how to play football. FSU and Clemson both had issues with them. Lulling opponents to sleep is what they do.
So BC is the Jigglypuff of the ACC.
No, BC always plays hard. They played other teams hard this year.
Jigglypuff is a pokemon that sings people and pokemon to sleep and then sharpies their face because they have their shoes on. I thinks its a pretty accurate analogy.
I fully agree with this. There's a reason why Jigglypuff is banned from Super Smash Bros. tournaments.
Even if we win out, the only way we'd have a shot at a MNC is if Bama loses two games or the SECCG to knock them out of contention.
I don't think bama is the key..winning out and beating two top 5 teams would be enough..I think Oregon is the team that needs to lose but if bama loses then that's basically the same thing. I don't think ohio st will have enough good wins..
These rankings don't mean squat right now. Hopefully the players don't even look at them.
for the record, I personally don't need to focus on Duke (and probably neither do any of you). I sure hope the players are though.
I'm a dreamer, I can't help it...and right now there still is a hope and a prayer...
Dook
So obviously I'm more focused on Duke because they showed us last year that they aren't a joke anymore. But in 2 weeks Miami plays FSU. I expect FSU to spank them, but who do we pull for?

good point, although I think more like 8, not top 5 if FSU loses.

hmmm...I take back my earlier statement. A 1-loss FSU in the ACCCG might be back in the top 5 at that point.
I'd say our Hokies have quite a bit of fight in them this season, too.
i'm not sure i would dub duke and bc "giant killers" or anything
FSU will be jumped by Oregon if Oregon wins out. They have the beef of their schedule to come still.
I've heard this but I'm not sure I agree. Oregon has UCLA and Stanford next. They both already have a loss. If Oregon wins out, Stanford has at least two losses and UCLA has at least two as well. I think the point to be made is that your thought process is entirely too reasonable and well founded. The polls....well...
I agree it is a toss up, I feel Oregon's flashy numbers will ultimately put them back ahead. The only way I see FSU staying #2 is if they do to Miami what they did to Clemson and then do it again in the ACCCG.
If FSU wins out I think they get more credit for their schedule. Also by having a r-FR QB who wins the Heisman.
It is fun to dream but we have the toughest part of our schedule coming up here as well. Worried about Duke first and foremost but also BC @ Chestnut Hill is a very tough outing...Beamer has to get the boys ready for that one and not look ahead to Miami
