Angel vs. Devil: Boston College Edition

It's time for the first (and possibly last?) Angel v.s Devil!

The Angel on my shoulder says:

After a brutal game against GT, the VT Defense and takes a leap forward. The line backers look sharp and make up for some of the lack of depth at DT. Watts and Farley continue to hone their pass breakup skills while showing significant improvement in placement and run support.

The offense begins to hit on all cylinders and our backs and receivers keep the BC defense on their heels all afternoon.

VT goes on to win in convincing fashion by two touch downs. Final score: 35-21.

The devil on my should says:

The VT defense can't recover from a demoralizing loss to GT at home. They have no answers for stopping AJ Dillon and just to make matters worse BC's tight ends and receivers have a record night as BC puts up a balanced performance and fully exploits a weakened VT defense.

On the offensive side of the ball BC's line and defensive backs combine to limit opportunities on the ground while also coming up with big sacks due to VT's receiver's not being able to break free.

BC prevails 45-14.

What do the angel and devil on your shoulder's say?

Angels vs Devils is all about which sport. Devils are a lock in ice hockey and probably soccer. Angels are a lock in baseball and probably american football. Basketball is probably a tossup.

and my head tells me NOOOOO TE with out the last name boykin is going to eat us. and bud is NOT ever going to lose to lofty no matter what the talent differential is. see WF vs VT gif below and the talent disparity there for my reasoning to the madness. VT 28-bc 20

There are only two things I hate in this world; people who are intolerant of other people's culture and Boston College. Eat your toast this week. Jesuit schools hate toast.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

But you're intolerant of cheese.

And not even for a good reason.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

We are going down 3-0 this weekend. I feel it. It's going to be Wake Forest-epic

Angel. I think the offense pulls it together and it turns into a shootout that neither defense can stop. VT wins 49-42 after a Lefty trick play ends in an interception.

I wish that was the case, but all of UNC trick plays seemed to work pretty good. for a D that can get out of position on a normal play. a trick play would have our guys feet really tying up our minds unfortunately.

Hokies win 4-3.

Two safeties?

You know another way to score only 4 points in football?

Well, yes. 4 blocked extra points returned for touchdown. Except in that scenario, we'd lose 24-4.

False, blocked extra points are worth 2 points if returned

Damn it.

I don't but wasn't sure if you did...

With Ron Cherry in the ACC officiating head offices, anything is possible.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Four one point safeties

Because BC has a more traditional running style than GT, I would surmise that our defense will be able to key on plays with a little more regularity.

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

I agree here...if Dillon ends up gashing us, it will be late in game after we are down a few scores and the DBs are gassed. Outside of a run here or there we've been pretty good (minus GT).

___

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

44.5 hours till kick-off

We've got this. Dillion will break a couple of long runs, but we just need keep up the energy in the stands. VT has an offense that could come from behind if needed.

Confession: If we do beat a ranked team in Lane I'm going to start 4 different FAM threads.

Angel:

  • Fuente is 7-1 the week after a loss.
  • Foster has been pretty good against Lefty recently.
  • We had a little bit of extra recovery time after our Thursday night game.

Devil:

  • Our offense may be trending up, but it's not yet 'reliable'.
  • Our defense needs some (good) experience.

Conclusion:

  • Hokies beat BC 35-24
  • Lose to Pitt 17-37
  • Beat Miami 27-17
  • Beat UVA 20-17
  • Lose to Clemson 21-41
  • Too soon to know how our bowl game will go

I could get down with this scenario. It actually would be idea.

Devil
if the defense gets less than 4 stops.... we loose

5 stops ,,,,50/50

Angel
5 or more stops .....we win

Angel
5 or more stops .....we win

5 or more stops and we catch 5 or more punts .....we win. FTFY

the more I think about it the more I feel better about this game. its just how our season has been. beat the ranked when everyone is down on us, get hype just enough to get back up on us, and then lose to pitt, lets hope UVA is still ranked at the end of the season, so we can beat them and then get hype for the off season.

the closer I get to game day, the better I feel about this game. The week started with morbid depression, somewhere in the middle I was tepidly logical, but now I'm at full on maroon and orange colored glasses optimism.

Angel: VT wins 28-27. Just enough defense to hold BC to a few field goals that prove to be the difference.

Devil: BC wins 31-24 . This is primarily based on looking back to the matchup 4 years ago. I could see the game going eerily similarly to this:

VIDEO: 2014 BC @ VT

Get well!

Lee Suggs!!

Angel: VT wins 28-27. Just enough defense to hold BC to a few field goals that prove to be the difference the thing that worries me the most about this is UNC was abysmal in the redzone. but everyone else has had little to no issue scoring in the RZ on us. I hope I am wrong and you are right.

I was hoping this would be another bourbon thread. I prefer the Angel's Envy to the Devil's Cut, although part of that is probably liking Knob Creek better then Jim Beam. The port wine barrel second aging adds a hint of a Manhattan flavor, which I also like.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

I agree. Knob Creek > Jim Beam. I have never been a fan of Beam. It has an aftertaste I can't describe.

When talking about non-premium stuff JD is my go to. Maker's isn't bad.

In terms of top shelf you can't go wrong with Jefferson's.

When talking about non-premium bourbon stuff
JD is my go to

ftfy

If we're nit-picking (and it's a bourbon sub, so we are haahhhaha), get that Tennessee whiskey outta here

/ssssmoothfinish

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

You are correct sir!

But JD is only not Bourbon because the definition of Tennessee Whiskey includes the final filtering process which is absent in Bourbon. Having said that, JD is by far the best Tennessee Whiskey... Though Pritchard's makes a pretty good case but not sure I can get over the name given the abject foulness of Pritchard Hall at VT.

I'm leaning towards angel.

Leg for perfectly executing the spirit of the article.

Do you think it could be improved with more content from me or is it fun because it invites people to participate?

After seeing this defense through over 1/2 of a football season:

Angel: BC 24, VT 21
Devil: BC 52, VT 16

Hokies 35 BC 21

The taste is so divine
A chemical come alive
Welcome to your vice
Good luck with life
'Cause you can't
You can't
You can't kill me that easily

Head: But how do you stop AJ Dillon with a depleted defense that's even more depleted.
Heart: Bourbon.

Ah yes. Bourbon (or JD) is close to my heart

Angel: it's a shame I can't watch the game at the beerfest, the Hokies will bounce back and with a huge effort and win 31-23.
Devil: thank God I'm not watching this shit show. Let me get piss drunk at a beerfest instead to brace myself for the result. 45-24 BC.
