I have the game being recorded. We are celebrating my Mom's 95 birthday today. Her birthday is not until 21 December but with kids, grandkids and great-grandkids, Christmas time was not conducive to the party so this was the best weekend. We have three family members from the UK (my Mom was a WWII war bride) join the 65 folks stateside from as far away as Massachusetts and Mississippi. We will have a great time and the VT grads and near grads in the family will be checking their phones for the score updates. Let's go HOKIES!

Man this is a rough season. I'm not even mad, but I really have no expectations for next season either.
We have few players to start with, and even less with these injuries
our 2016 recruiting class failures are evident. Beamer's final years of apathy and poor recruiting is finally showing itself. We shouldn't have to rely on such a young defense even with the off season attritions.
I don't disagree that those recruiting classes were less than average for us. But no team in the country not named Alabama could overcome the type of attrition that we have seen on D.

I mean... do you expect to have a WR completely uncovered and unaccounted for every play? I've seen opportunities on the WR screens and the receiver has made the first guy miss a few times but the problem is much more that blockers have failed at maintaining their blocks.

Or just a simple I formation to run the ball instead of this read option where the runnning back is seven to eight yards deep starting off. I just don't see any fire or passion in these guys on either side of the ball. I think the team has folded. Bowl streak is over.
Nobody runs I formation anymore for a reason. It's been figured out.
You do realize a standard I-formation has the running back the same 7-8 yards off the LOS, if not further.

You do realize it helps having a fullback as a lead blocker through the hole. Instead of having a TE/FB line up offset behind the tackle or guard. There's no down hill momentum. In our read option the running is damn near at a standstill when he gets the ball.

Any perfectly executed play can be a homerun. But that's not the real world. You design and run plays to give yourself the best chance to move the sticks and score points. When we need to move sticks we call dumb shit like a 2 yard out route instead of the inside slant that they couldn't stop earlier.

During the Beamer years we never got beat the way we have this year even during the 6-6 seasons. Did we give Fuente too much credit winning with Beamers guys? It just seems like these players don't have the same attitude. Maybe Beamer got a 2* but they had heart and cared about the name on the helmet but these 4* that we got don't seem to have the same motivation.
I personally believe the ODU and GT losses this year, were the most inexcusable and pathetic I've ever seen since I started watching VT in the 90s. We all know about JMU, Temple, and the 2OT loss to WF.
ODU and GT, we had AMPLE time to prepare. ODU and GT, our offense and special teams, ALONE, should have been enough to win.
If cornelson is back next year we have no chance of getting where this fan base wants to go. Fuente needs to make the change.

It's sad moment when you realize how long this re-build could take at VT. We'll hold onto Fuente for another 2-3 years in mediocrity. Then if we let him go, we have to convince some coach that we could be a decent football team again. By then will there be any magic left in Blacksburg? How long will it take said coach to recruit his players. We could be looking at 10 years or maybe never. We just aren't a tier 1 team so we're always on the edge irrelevancy and appears our worst fear has come true. The only real answer we can control is donations and VT doesn't do that very well.
