Because regardless of how much we may not be happy with the on-field performance at some point we have to trust that what the coaches see in practice is going to be similar to what we see in a game. It is very rare for a player to be better in a game than they are in practice, especially at this level of football.

Ok... the question was how can someone make a declarative statement over arm strength/accuracy of RW vs QP... what was the basis? I don't have a judgement either way, because I've only seen QP throw via the ESPN 11 footage (where his arm didn't seem to be a question)... I just get tired of people phrasing opinions as facts.
Per your comment, RW is the best option for the team to win at this point because he's the starter per the coaches decision. I am not questioning that decision, though I think it probably has something to do with RW having more experience, not simply that he has a better arm than others.
I was just saying it a matter of wanting QP to get in-game experience. If you're gonna put him in then at least catch the defense off guard, even if it doesn't result in a long catch.

Yeah, I think absolutely everyone was extremely excited for the hire. To be honest, that's probably why everyone is so low. They had a lot of faith in Fuente and they feel let down. Not on wins and losses, but on coordination, discipline, fight, passion, demeanor, and sideline body language.

As fans you don't have to be capable of hiring the right coaching staff or even know if it was done. That's the the AD's job. If being an AD was easy and anyone could do it then it wouldn't pay well. The same is true for being a head coach. None of us have to be able to do better as a head coach to not be satisfied with the product.

We took what 2 shots downfield the whole game when again our big WR's were feasting on Pitts Db's. If it wasn't a catch it was a 15 yard PI flag coming out.
I mean Pitt lined up and ran the ball down our throats continuously because it worked. Why did VT not continue to do what was working?
Minnesota (PJ Fleck) fired his DC last week for giving up 55 to a bad Illinois team. Oklahoma HC fired his DC Mike Stoops after an embarrassing loss to Texas. If things continue to look abysmal on the offensive side of the ball HC Fuente needs to think long and hard about a change.
Defensively our team is a mess. Poor Recruiting/lack of roster management going all the way back to 2013 is killing us. Injuries are pilling up and our defense which was expected to be bad looks worse than expected. Surprised not really, just sad to see it's fallen off the tracks.
Only positive thoughts guys, nothing wrong with this team. Everyone is giving their all, the coaches haven't lost the team. Just a few minor tweaks needed, everyone is super earning their paychecks.
Could it be that some fans accept this is a lost season after all the attrition and just enjoy watching Hokie football? Heck, they may even hope that this is a single down year for a coach who had two good years before it?
Took Beamer 7 years to have a winning season. I know the program is in a different place then when Beamer took over, but yes this year the bowl streak is likely over. At this point we may not win another game. Move along, life will go on tomorrow the same as if we won the game today.

I totally understand that there will be a transition period with a new coach; however, in "Year 3 of The Fuente," there should be more promise shown with the younger players on the field. Of course, we should also see mistakes due to inexperience; however, the coaches appear to actually not be good at "coaching" at all. The team doesn't look like a team that just needs a few more games and an off-season to be good again.

Yeah, the attrition has been absolutely nuts. Loosing isn't what's frustrating, it's the apparent lack of fight. Peoples stands out because his drive appears to be so different from everyone else. Loosing is one thing, not being competitive is another. That, to me, is what is most disappointing.

i don't get mad at things that can be attributed to talent or lack of experience, but it does piss me off to see the lack of fire and aggressiveness. Defensively we seemingly have people in place on alot of big plays to cut them off but we don't tackle and it goes for 40. Offensively we are either apparently making the wrong reads (which i am not qualified to evaluate) or dropping straight dimes when the right read is made. Mentally this team just doesn't even seem to be there.

The players didn't execute, it's not our gameplan or coaching. Remember we set school records year one, so definitely not us. It's the players that we recruited, but these actually weren't the ones we wanted, so will take some time to get the ones we really wanted. But our scheme and coaching decisions are great. We're continuing to get better each week, next week we may only lose by 20. 1-0.

I want to throw this out there early....there is a whole lot of expectation for game-changing heroic stature being placed on QP by this fan base. Go look up his 40 time he's not breaking the field. He's a young freshman qb with a large stature and power running capabilities. He's not going to be able to extend plays with his feet like Tyrod did. That means he's gonna need to learn to play legit college football first. If your looking for a big savior by next year look elsewhere. That doesn't mean he can't develop into something great just setting expectations though

Reggie Floyd has played probably the worst game of his VT career tonight. A lot of these huge busted runs seem to have come from him not filling the proper gap and taking just head scratching angles all night long. Not to mention Caleb Farley who should never play another down of defense a day in his life.

Back 7 is completely lost. They don't know where to line up, which gap to fill, nothing. This is game 9. That's coaching. You simply can't field a team that gives up this many chunk plays week in and week out. That only happens in high school football or an Alabama game.

If I'm Bud, I would almost want to hang it up after this season. This is historically bad defense. Nobody knows what they're doing and everyone is lost.
Also, I understand the decision to play Farley at CB because he's a great athlete, but if the performance by another player would be no worse than this (pretty awful) and Farlet would have more impact as an offensive player, I think his time on defense should be done after this year.
Definitely an athlete; however, he must not understand defense at all.

But can this coaching staff develop the players? That's one thing I think Beamer and his staff excelled at. 3 star players that would kill themselves for the team. Kids who weren't recruited heavily. Maybe one or two Division 1 scholarships and had a chip on their shoulder. Walk ons who busted their asses to be apart of the team and then become starters. I just don't see that with this team. Whatever you want to call it, passion, fire, intensity. It's just not there.

The dryer broke halfway through the second quarter, so by the time it was fixed it was fourth quarter. Looks like the team never gave up. Lack of experience in defense hurts, but worse i am not sure i see the talent or potential there.
I want Frank back. Hank can serve as the offensive coordinator.
Has anyone noticed how terrible reggy Floyd has played? Several of those long runs appeared to be the result of him being in the wrong gap, late to the gap, or taking a terrible angle. He seemed to dance and several times took a wrong step or a few steps away from the play. It's too bad that we have zero alternative to him. He looked very good in run support last year and was always attacking down hill. This year he looks like the weak link on a terrible defense full of freshman. Also, the d-line is terrible this year and unless we find a few diamonds in the transfer market, it will likely be worse next year. There is no penetration, even from walker and Mihota was straight blown up on several occasions. How many times last year did we see the d line make a play in the backfield? This year the not only aren't making plays, but they are allowing blockers to get to the second level. I expect and hope the back seven will improve next year, but who knows.
French has highlighted it in the last couple of film reviews and after a conversation with him, he's poised to do so again this week. Not great, Bob!
