I wasn't sure if it was just me or if this was a real thing....
I don't know the numbers or anything but it's sure felt like every time our defense gets some momentum going, there's some penalty on the 3rd down stop (granted that one was a holding and likely influenced us making the stop, but a lot of the time it seems like it's a personal foul after the play or something)

Willis just isn't doing it for me anymore. He's out there just throwing it up into coverage and inaccurate as all get out. Just put in Hooker and ride this thing out. I've supported him but now I've seen enough.
Willis isn't the problem
He's not the main problem but he has been horrific for the most part the end of the first half and into the second. He's making bad reads and just throwing it up into coverage, and when he does find the open man on these slow developing plays, the receivers have to make an acrobatic catch every time. It's just reckless. But I suppose the best we have at this point. Don't get me wrong I love his fight and he doesn't quit, but he's just spraying the ball all over the place right now.

OFFENSIVE LINE - That's our real problem. They can't control the line of scrimmage, open holes for the run game, but, they are good at helping the QB or RB's up after runs for loses. A good O-line will make Willis great, and Peoples a Heisman candidate. It would also remove 87% of our complaints of the offense.

I'm glad someone else is seeing the same QB play this game as I am. I like Willis and he's tough, but he has been bad most of this game. No QP when he's actually struggling, but we alternate him in and kill momentum when Willis is hot. The offense makes no sense at all.
Staff didn't plan well. They can't play qp now because you won't be able to play him next week. If only we would have executed the insertion of qp better. I mean it's the same guy that had success with jerod. Nothing's changed.

For the first time since November 1995 I decided not to watch a VT football game. Then my plans ended early and I thought I'd check on the score. It as 14-10 with VT driving. Within 20 minutes real time the game was another blowout. I can't imagine what the coaches could say at this point that would draw me back in. I've actually had VT football beaten out of me, and I didn't think that was possible.

He's the coach, they are not. They should listen and follow instructions. They need to learn to respect and follow authority. A football team is not a democracy. I think in the Pitt games the announcers were talking about player insisting to know "why" before following instructions. This is the root of many of the problems. The players are not in charge. They need to grow up and learn it's not all about them, it's a team game. (This is sounding like UVA was for many of the years past... but they are coming out of it now).

Reset all the streaks this year. Bowl streak, UVA streak. Start afresh. Remove the whole '25' jersey tradition. The players don't deserve it right now anyway. Distance the program a bit more from Beamer, I love the guy with all my heart but I still feel there is a shadow over Fuente and his staff that won't go away until the program separates itself from the past a little more.
Fire the appropriate assistant coaches, start afresh and use the youth we have on this team to become better. This comment will probably we controversial but maybe a shit sub 0.500 season might be a good thing in the long run because this has exposed some glaring weaknesses in our mentality and staff that need fixing ASAP if we want consistent, long term success.
College football is a sport where seasons build on each other. A bad season is not just going to spark a revival. This isn't a movie. It's far more likely we just fade into mediocrity because of it. We need to continue to fight and build, not raze the program to the ground
I disagree. Bad seasons spark change. Mediocre seasons sometimes do not. A bad season is often what is needed to make the appropriate staff changes that a mediocre 6 win season might not bring about.

With all due respect to French, we gotta Pickup as many halfway decent JUCOs to replenish our DLine, as possible. I have actually seen improvements from these young defenders, especially the LBs. Then we can start winning games again, with the defense carrying the team.
I can't say the same for the Offense, as a whole. I am not at all impressed with their output. They haven't suffered nearly the attrition as the defense. What's the point in having an offense, if they can't outscore the opponent can carry the team?
This offense will not improve under Cornelson, period. He is overmatched by every DC we go against.
He was fortunate to pickup the previous staff's players and Jerod in Year One. Since then, our offense disappears for great stretches. Especially in Conference Play.

Fuente does bear some responsibly for how deflated the players are. He has talked about how we "don't have the talent" too...
You can't do that as head coach, even if it's true.
You have to phrase it differently. These guys look up him to him. When the coach says, "we don't have the talnet", the guys believe it. They will quit.
What he needs to communicate is, "Those guys on the other side of the ball. They're really talented. We need to play it tighter and cleaner than they do. We can do that. One snap at a time".
But saying, "We don't have the talent," isn't going to get the team to fight.
Then let them prove him wrong because they are proving him right, so far.
That's not how that works. As a leader, if I tell my team they're not talented (which I never do), and then expect them to perform against all odds, they won't. Period. Stating they don't have talent is not the same as challenging them to do better. Team members who respect and feel respected by their coach will rise to the occasion.

This team is young etc etc but after 10 games it is showing no improvement. That's a coaching failure. Another year like this and changes will have to be made regardless of the buyout. Multiple late and unnecessary hits after game was decided, including one on Willis very late going. Plus some petty shit like swatting away Keene's hand when he offered to help a player up that I'm more pissed about because we lost.
I don't know where else to say this, so I guess here is as good a place as any.
Never forget this season...and I'm sure many will say that's contrary to their thought and that's fine.

Adversity can help you grow. I have experienced it in my life. I think the players will grow this year by getting shellacked and humiliated so much.
But ... this is a results based business. It's like saying we lost money this year but have grown and will do better. It doesn't fly.
The defense we can understand. Attrition, injuries, and youth. The offense is relatively healthy and has been downright awful. These guys need to look in the mirror. Fix it or get someone who will.
Elite coaches have had no problem dumping assistants who do not deliver. I seriously believe Fuente needs a new offensive coordinator.
I take it all back. Fuente is a great coach. He's so good he needs to go to one of the elite prgrams right now! Please go and dont leave any of your offensive game plans or team moral building methods behind.
I can hear the comments now. We did not execute well. Time to go back to the films go back to practice, try hard, and face the next opponent. What he won't say is we will get blown out for the fifth time in a row.
