OT: What's Your Favorite Moment From The UVA-VT Rivalry?

It doesn't matter how long that you have been invested in this rivalry, we are all bound to have a great memory from the game. The games during the 1990's had some incredible moments, as it was right as Beamer was making a turn in the series, having only won twice over George Welsh prior to the 1995 game. From 1990-1999, the series was split at 5 wins a piece.

Beamer went on to be 6-8 vs. Welsh, but along with that came my favorite moment:

Druckenmiller to Holmes

I'll never forget this moment- my parents had gone to this game, and my brother, sister, and I were watching the game at our grandparents. We missed the radio call since we had the game on the tv, but it is one of the best radio calls in Virginia Tech history. This clip still gives me chills.

This year marks the 100th meeting of UVA and Virginia Tech. What's your favorite memory? Doesn't have to be a single play or game, but a tailgating moment, or "I remember where I was when..." moment...

I went to the "38-0 bro" game with my dad and that was a lot of fun. 2016 was a good time. I just really like beating the shit out of UVA

What was sweet about 38-0 was coming into that game, many of the local papers were touting UVA, and many were picking UVa. That was not to be. Logan's block on a Wilson TD (which was called back for holding) was awesome too.

Correy

1990 - LOLUVA was ranked number 1 earlier in the year before a couple of losses. The Athletic Department saw fit to sell all the student tickets to LOLUVA fans (I guess they had them back then.) The students made a big stink and the AD brought temporary bleachers at the North End Zone to allow some students to attend. We ended up beating them and the students rushed the field and tore down the goal posts.

I am pretty sure this was one of the games that may have gotten Beamer the extension to continue coaching in 1993.

Had no idea about the Athletic Department selling tickets to UVA fans - that's a nice tidbit there, dzilla!

My first game at Lane Stadium!!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

I was one of those students carrying the goal post. I've got a pic of the goal post almost down, and Maurice DeShazo (who was redshirting but dressed out) sitting on the goal post celebrating. Also, a leg for the Left Hand in your avi.

Druckenmiller the shotgun snap, fakes short, fires it deep into the end zone it is....caught! It is caught for a touchdown by Jermaine Holmes with 47 seconds left!

From start to finish, the 38-0 bro game was top notch 👌 I can still see in my mind LT3 trucking that poor defender on a block.

Druck to Holmes for sure, with an honorable mention to 38-0, bro.

2004 @ Lane. Start of the streak. What a magical season too.

Sam Rogers wearing the 25 jersey and running wild on the Hoos. That player and that game just embody what Hokie football is, IMO.

Upvoted, then reset and found another random non-25 score comment of yours to upvote.

Was a rough season to start to finish, but the Chuck Clark interception in 2015 was awesome to me. It seemed like it happened in slow motion.

Edit: Was thinking of the 96 game with earlier post. 22 years later it is a bit of a fog.

I do remember this one though. I watched it from home.

Which game was the one where a UVA coach tried to trip one of our players running into the endzone? I forgot which year that was.

'95 game. I was there as part of the MVs at the time.

I was there too as a guest of some 'hoo lawyers. Joe Gieck (sp?) was the trainer who stuck his leg out. Didn't see that from the stands, but what a game. After the Druck to Holmes, the 'hoos were driving and looked like they'd score with time running out, but we intercepted for a TD and that's when the trainer stuck out his leg. He wasn't even close to near enough to actually trip the D back (sorry, I always forget who that was), but it got a lot of attention after the game and showed what dicks those 'hoos could be. The win sent us to our first Sugar Bowl and a win over Texas for a top 10 finish. Funnest college football game I've ever attended and my #1 VT-UVA game ever.

So weird. I looked up Wilson's 40 time and it came up as 4.49. I swear he looks faster than that.

Man I miss having game breaking RB's! It hurts to look back at videos and see so many great backs. Feels like we haven't had that in a very loooooong time

2014, I think. Night game, brutally cold. It was a close exciting game but the moment I remember most was Wahoo QB Grayson Lambert getting smashed by a Dadi/Ekanum sandwich. I almost felt sorry for him.

I may have been the coldest I've ever been at that game. My memory and it has to do with tailgating in lot 9 I believe. A drunk UVA fan came out of the woods and tried to climb the chain link fence at the end of the lot and fell over it. Good times.

His head snapped. That looked painful.

Correy

And...

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

If Ekanum had arrived a split second earlier, Lambert might not have survived.

He legit looked like a crash test dummy.

Or Drew Brees

Why does the first part of that gif look like it was taken from VHS footage?

pretty sure it was taken with a phone.... and not a very good one.

Watching this makes me remember why we've had the Commonwealth cup for so long. This video reminded me that in 2008 we were using the Wild Turkey formation to beat UVA. On a roster with Sean Glennon and Tyrod Taylor, Greg Boone is playing quarterback against our rival a week before we WON THE ACC. AGAIN! Beating UVA is about doing more, forgetting "the system", breaking tendencies, and doing whatever it takes to win that day!

I'm hoping for nasty weather and UVA getting punched right in the neck!

EXPLICIT LYRICS

We ran a risky but ultimately successful D that year too. Vic Hall started at QB for them and Bud made an adjustment where we crashed Macho (I believe) to take away the run to the edge. Then he threw a pick in the EZ to seal it for us.

OH CRAP! This thread has me feeling something funny... like when I was climbing the rope in gym class. Is that hope?

So many. Like the beginning of the Streak:

My dad's family is from outside Hooville, and we were driving back to Blacksburg after Thanksgiving with them in 2004. Happened to switch the radio on for a split second coming down rt 250 towards Afton, just long enough to hear LOLUVA's one TD being called by their asshat then-PBP guy, Mac McDonald. My dad cursed and ragequit the broadcast, and we feared all was again lost. Somewhere around Dixie Caverns we turned the radio back on and heard "24-10, Virginia Tech Wins." The dumb luck of us tuning in for their only TD. Pure jubilation, which continued that night as we watched the taped game. I still have the videocassette somewhere.

Clint Sintim, their (pretty good) linebacker in the mid-late 2000s, running his mouth/playing semi-dirty every game and going 0-4.

The only matchup I've been to, the 2010 entry of the Streak where Tyrod & co had their way with the hoos in TMobile's final home game.

Watching 38-0 bro home on break with my high school buddies and giving the one guy that went to LOLUVA endless shit.

21st century QBs Undefeated vs UVA:
MV7, MV5, LT3, Grant Wells, Braxton Burmeister, Ryan Willis, Josh Jackson, Jerod Evans, Michael Brewer, Tyrod Taylor, Sean Glennon, and Grant Noel. That's right, UVA. You couldn't beat Grant Noel.

The spectacular way they're going to blow it this year. #IBelieve

Don't give up on your dreams.

A fun twist for another 38-0 bro game post. As we all know, the game took place in November 2011. I got a soda and didn't realize the date on my cup until I was nearly done. UVA had more 2010 cups than they had fans for 2 seasons.

Mike London flying off the handle because Stroman clocked a man with two feet inbounds never gets old to me.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I never saw a coach complain more and whine about penalties. I went to the UVa UNC game his 1st year and I swear, every play he was yelling at the line judge about a no call.

Correy

Brewer separating his shoulder in '14, then coming back in and winning the game throwing the ball highlighted by a huge catch and run by Bucky late in the 4th.

Bryan Randall taking over the game in 2004 and cementing his ACC POY award.

my favorite moment was sitting in the student section at Lane North in 2015 2005. I had my face painted orange and was wearing a blue blazer, oxford blue dress shirt, and a blue and orange striped tie. At kickoff, I stripped down to the waist revealing a maroon painted torso and cheered my face off until my friend who had gotten me in asked me to stop at halftime when we were up 24-0. By the end of the 3rd quarter, when we were up 52-7 (after 4, count em 4 rushing TDs in a single quarter), her boyfriend was just sitting crying with his head in his hands. I wish I'd had a smart phone so I could have documented it.

You ain't the only one!

I feel like you mixed multiple games together. Completely understandable considering they all kinda mesh together as a giant ass-whooping at this point. But we won by 3 in 2015 at Lane North, won 52-7 at the Mecca in 2016.

Rip his freaking head off!

Crap. You're right. I meant 2005. Don't drink and post, kids.

1990 for sure. The Hoos came in ranked 17th...the Hokies were just hoping for a winning season. ESPN was in the house...back when ESPN covered 5 or 6 games a week. There was no ESPN3 and ESPNinternet. It was a big deal to have ESPN there. We had fun storming the field and pulling down the goalposts after the game.

but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

I was gonna mention this one. This was my first Tech-LOLUva game. I played on the drumline for the MVs, and I think we would have helped with the posts, if not for The Wrath of Harry Price.

Amen! That was my freshman year-first time watching the rivalry game. We were getting 9 yards on our rushes (God I wish we could have THAT nowadays!) and yes tearing down the goalposts in a ROAD game!

PS even though we lost in Lane the next year, memorable from that game was UVA fans trying to return the favor with goalposts but being repulsed by hundreds/thousands of Hokie fans in a melee on the field. Bonus for the grounds crew turning on the sprinklers to make it end up as a mud brawl ala the big fight scene with John Wayne in McClintock!

From the 2018 VT-uva game-"This is when LEGENDS are made!"

They even played the National Anthem in the middle of the fighting to try and stop it

My favorite moment was that time in 2018 when everyone thought we were going to lose and the team came out and bitchslapped UVA into next week, making them our bitch for the next century.

(I hope this ages well)

Bless your sweet, delusional soul.

If you play it, they will win.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

It was that moment in November 2018, right after Bryce Perkins fumbled the ball when he ran into his own player and Belmar jumped on it to secure an instant win for VT, as I processed exactly what had just happened.

That time that I was so insanely wrong to doubt this team and they showed me the error of my ways. I think it was November 2018.

Steve Greer getting lit up by DJ Coles. Women in front of me at the game said "He was the one that was on TV this week." "Well he's about to be on it again."

There are a few tidbits about the rivalry in today's GameDay Final:

First, on rivalries in general:

Rivalries require Dan Mullen to interrupt a postgame interview to break up a fight at midfield and Egg Bowl officials to flag literally every player on both teams on the same play. They allow the worst Virginia Tech team in decades to still be sipping champagne from a battered cup 24 hours after a stunning win.

I think I enjoy quotes like that because I've already accepted how this year's team compares to the rest of the teams I've seen in Blacksburg. But then...

Virginia Tech over Virginia is Wawa vs. Sheetz: It's only fitting that the one state where the two convenience stores overlap is Virginia. And we're not saying Sheetz is bad. We're just saying there's no real competition here.

Atrocious. Sheetz pummels Wawa in every feasible measurement.

That is the worst take I've ever read in my life. Sheetz is head and shoulders better than wawa. Frankly I don't see how anyone could disagree with us.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they meant the only state other than Pennsylvania where Sheetz and Wawa overlap.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Pretty sure Maryland has both. And it isn't close, Sheetz is amazing.

Rip his freaking head off!

We do. Royal Farms beats both though.

I been here since day 0.

In my experience, people who prefer Wawa spend every waking moment raising it up and shittalking Sheetz. People who prefer Sheetz just go to Sheetz and enjoy their food and the only time they mention it is in response to someone saying Wawa is better. I think Wawa people have an inferiority complex.

This post made by the #SheetzGang

1. Sheetz is better than WaWa you heathen
2. My favorite moment is more of a collection of 15 moments occurring when the clock hit 00:00

Was it 2011 or 2012 when UVA came into Lane and the winner was going to the ACC Championship Game and we shut them down.

2018 when we had the worst VT team in forever beat one of their best teams in a decade.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

I have to admit, that's my personal favorite for now.

It took me a moment to realize what had happened and that we had won. So the moment after that was my favorite, as I celebrated the victory.

Oh, and the lamentation of their women.

That is what is best in life.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

This guy gets it.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!

My favorite moment was that time that UVA thought they would win, but Tech won instead.

I shit you not, LOLUVa is hosting a wine tasting as part of its Belk Bowl pregame activities. I'm not one to judge. If you like wine tastings, I'm not gonna tell another man what he can and can't do in the privacy of his own home. But you don't do that instead of tailgating, it's just not...I don't know...natural.

Come on people, it's coke and jack, not zinfandel black

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

The best wine tasting is the one where all the wines are actually bourbon.

If you play it, they will win.

"How the ass pocket will be used, I do not know. Alls I know is, the ass pocket will be used." -The BoD

So do people actually drink wine when there is bourbon? I always thought wine was for when all other spirits were finished.

They really do try to make themselves look like this, don't they?

I'll take captain and coke while I tailgate/watch football

Wine tasting is all well and good. But wine tastings do NOT go with football.

Nothing says class like cash bar.

They've been doing "More than the Score" for quite some time now. The fact that they're bringing it to the Belk Bowl is no surprise.

If their fans want wine and an interesting lecture prior to a football game, I have to applaud the university for giving the people what they want.

UVA and their fans have their identity (albeit ridiculous). They will continue to be a mediocre football program and we should continue to laugh at them mercilessly.
