I've seen people saying that this team had quit, or given up, both in this game and the past few games. I think we can all see now that this wasn't a team that gave up. They have a lot of problems, the defense was gassed and giving up a bunch of big plays, but they dug in and came up clutch when it mattered. The offense started stalling out, but they took the shots they needed to win the game and somehow, some way they came up successful. So happy for this team right now, they straight up willed their way to the win!

I seriously think that Willis's touchdown saving tackle may have been the most critical play of the night. Sure, every point we scored and every point we stopped them from making were all important. If uva had scored seven on that play not only would they have gone into the half only down seven, I think their momentum would have been sky high going into the locker room.

I admit it, I faltered. I wrote off this game weeks ago, figuring that all great things must end. I was wrong, not wrong to doubt or to question, but wrong to lose faith, wrong to be tempted by buzzketball season, wrong to give up.

I have to take credit for this win. Watched the entire 0-0 first quarter. Had to go to the store (long story) at start of 2nd Q. Got home in time for the start of the 3rd Q, puzzled but happy we were up 14-0. But as soon as I start watching the hoos start scoring - quickly!
After the weenies scored 14 on us I took one for the team and went up the road to get a pizza. Took my time. When I got home, regulation had just ended and my wife told me that multiple miracles had occurred, and now it was going into O/T! We both decided I should make the sacrifice and stay out in the garage until the game was decided, while she and my kids cheered on our team. And so I didn't so much as look at a TV (or listen on the radio) until it was OVAH! Thankfully I found the game on Watch ESPN and watched the 4th Q and O/T just now. AHHHhhhhhh......

The 15 virgins, someone's first born, a mouse (we had a mouse in our house duringthe Ohio State game at the Shoe. We heard it get caught in the trap but it didn't die. I made the mistake of checking out the salt over on the Sabre (my eyes are still recovering from that layout) and my gosh it was worse than I thought. I really thought it was going to be just the usual excuses, but some of their posts were completely over the line. Most had nothing to do with football. Pure shitposting. I know that I'm not saying anything here that's surprising but I am curious if anyone else has ventured over there and seen some of the stuff they're saying after the game? The only thing that restores my faith in humanity is personally knowing a good number of UVA fans and the fact that 95% of them are rational, good people. Not trying to rhyle anyone up, I just think it's sad to see some of that crap. I've been over there many times and just don't remember it being that petty, elitist, and just downright sad.

As in just a better class of people. I try not to pay it too much mind because it pisses me off, but it's the main reason I want to beat them for eternity. They may think they're better than us but we keep beating their smug asses and it kills them. Fuck em. Win with class lose with class. I'm convinced that most of the "elitists" on their boards didn't even go to UVA; they just know that's a typical stereotype that they can bring up. I work with plenty of UVA alum and know plenty of others and they're all good people who aren't arrogant. I'm with you though; it's really frustrating that they refuse to accept that Virginia Tech is a world class institution. I think they all know that deep down, but it makes the ones that spout that narrative feel better.

Yeah, what was odd to me was there was no voice of reason. They want their OC fired in a season where they had the best offense in years. They talk about what it takes to play championship football but they have had 3 good teams in the last 20 years, championship football is way over their head right now. Winning post season football is where they are at. Or just being competitive in post season football.
Now we have people that are critical that we haven't won the natty even, but there are tons that keep it in perspective that we have like 14 fresh in our defensive deep.
The layout needs to be nuked from orbit. I would assume that fans that look down on us would use a more elegant site, but nope.

I've shared this before, but the last time we lost to UVA was the day that I proposed to my now ex-wife. It was a colossal mistake and upset the cosmos and we all saw what happened. After many years together and 2 kids, I was running out of excuses to postpone any longer and got engaged again in April thinking it was far enough away from football to cause any disruptions. My actions jeopardized the season, but ultimately was just the right amount of time to avoid ending the streak. I'm sorry, but at least it won't happen again.

My wife, our son, his girl friend and I intend to be in the stands. At least three of us will be LOUDLY cheering for the HOKIES. My son's girl friend claims to never have been to a football game of any kind - clear evidence that she is from a different universe. [Actually, she seems like a good catch.]
To state the obvious, there is a lot riding on this game for the streaks (bowl games and consecutive wins over uva) and the seniors. On the personal level, my son may be heading off to teach in China in the coming year for (?) years, so this could be our last time cheering in the stands of Lane Stadium for awhile. The streaks will probably end at some time, but please not this year!

I seriously think that Willis's touchdown saving tackle may have been the most critical play of the night. Sure, every point we scored and every point we stopped them from making were all important. If uva had scored seven on that play not only would they have gone into the half only down seven, I think their momentum would have been sky high going into the locker room.

I heard excitement and disbelief. They were leaning toward whoever was winning in the moment. A couple years ago they pushed a big "this is the year for uva" narrative, that was not the case tonight.
Excitement and disbelief is Hokie football. I can't stop imagining if Settle and Edmunds (LB) played one more year, Hill and Reynolds were not dismissed, we would be 10-1. I think we would have still lost to ND or Pitt.

I have to take credit for this win. Watched the entire 0-0 first quarter. Had to go to the store (long story) at start of 2nd Q. Got home in time for the start of the 3rd Q, puzzled but happy we were up 14-0. But as soon as I start watching the hoos start scoring - quickly!

When I got home, regulation had just ended and my wife told me that multiple miracles had occurred, and now it was going into O/T! And so I didn't so much as look at a TV (or listen on the radio) until it was OVAH! Thankfully I found the game on Watch ESPN and watched the 4th Q and O/T just now. AHHHhhhhhh......

I didn't really know where to put this, so I'll put it here:
I made the mistake of checking out the salt over on the Sabre (my eyes are still recovering from that layout) and my gosh it was worse than I thought. I really thought it was going to be just the usual excuses, but some of their posts were completely over the line. Most had nothing to do with football. Pure shitposting. I know that I'm not saying anything here that's surprising but I am curious if anyone else has ventured over there and seen some of the stuff they're saying after the game? The only thing that restores my faith in humanity is personally knowing a good number of UVA fans and the fact that 95% of them are rational, good people. Not trying to rhyle anyone up, I just think it's sad to see some of that crap. I've been over there many times and just don't remember it being that petty, elitist, and just downright sad.
I checked it out. Pretty horrible. A good portion of them feel that we are a bunch of inbred hillbillies. They resort to name calling and insults of our players. The feel they are better than us. As in just a better class of people. I try not to pay it too much mind because it pisses me off, but it's the main reason I want to beat them for eternity. They may think they're better than us but we keep beating their smug asses and it kills them. Fuck em. Win with class lose with class. Act like you've been there before, because we all know they have for 15 years and counting.
I'm convinced that most of the "elitists" on their boards didn't even go to UVA; they just know that's a typical stereotype that they can bring up. I work with plenty of UVA alum and know plenty of others and they're all good people who aren't arrogant. I'm with you though; it's really frustrating that they refuse to accept that Virginia Tech is a world class institution. I think they all know that deep down, but it makes the ones that spout that narrative feel better.
Yeah, what was odd to me was there was no voice of reason. They want their OC fired in a season where they had the best offense in years. They talk about what it takes to play championship football but they have had 3 good teams in the last 20 years, championship football is way over their head right now. Winning post season football is where they are at. Or just being competitive in post season football.
Now we have people that are critical that we haven't won the natty even, but there are tons that keep it in perspective that we have like 14 fresh in our defensive deep.
The layout needs to be nuked from orbit. I would assume that fans that look down on us would use a more elegant site, but nope.
So true on them not having a voice of reason. They were all over the place and there were few (if any) reasonable takes on their team. Same with the out of line posts. I've seen in the past where that happens over there and people jump on them similar to if somebody on here says something way out of line, but there didn't seem to be any kind of community moderation.
Though all the nice UVA alums I know dont really follow football.
Part if it is that they think they have elite level talent. That just par for the course when you are also insular.
I've shared this before, but the last time we lost to UVA was the day that I proposed to my now ex-wife. It was a colossal mistake and upset the cosmos and we all saw what happened. After many years together and 2 kids, I was running out of excuses to postpone any longer and got engaged again in April thinking it was far enough away from football to cause any disruptions. My actions jeopardized the season, but ultimately was just the right amount of time to avoid ending the streak. I'm sorry, but at least it won't happen again.
In the previewing post, I wrote the following:
Well all four of us did cheer and make as much noise as appropriately possible and a new VT football fan (my son's girlfriend) may have been born.
What I did not want to say ahead of time was the last time I took someone to a VT football game who had never been to a football game before, it was to a certain Wake Forest game that shall be left nameless. My WWII English-war-bride mother was not impressed. So much better results this time around.
Did she tell you that she's used to that sort of sorry score at the end of regulation, in *her* variety of football?
She would say, "Yes, but at least they kept playing the whole game instead of stopping to rest and gather in a circle for tea every few seconds." Her words - not mine. ;>)
