I'd like to make this guy internet famous and while I know flipping the bird is something we've all done, it's complete douchbaggery when you are politely asked by the father of the children you are standing in front of to stop and then try to pick a fight with him.
Kudos to the other uva fan that stepped in and asked him to stop as well.

You have so much unnecessary text there. How about "I'm a UVA fan"
I like your thinking, how about simply "34-31"?!
bro
We have a winner.
So close!
Flipping the bird didn't bother me as much as his doing it in front of small children, my niece and trying to pick a fight.
Ah, to be clear, the gif was not a retort to your post, instead it was an appropriate response to the douche in question.
I don't care, flip off small children for all I care, smaller the better.
It's a shame you don't have an 'after' pic to go with the 'before'
Every Hoo is cocky.... right up until kickoff.
FIFY
There.
True. I should have said they are cocky right up until they get punched in the mouth.
Had one sitting by us in 2016 that ran his mouth a bit in the early parts of the 1st quarter. But halftime he was depressed and by the end of the 3rd he was gone.
I was with my 13 year old niece (her first game), so we moved at the end of the first quarter, so she could see better and to get away from a situation I could see escalating.
my 13 year old niece would have flicked him off right back..
Not sure how that's relevant, but...he wasn't flipping her off and if he had it would have been a short Lane Stadium experience for him...I might also mention it was her birthday and a gift to come to the game.
Go Hokies!
Yeah but to be fair, you taking your kid to a college game is like taking a kid to a rated R movie. You know what you were getting yourself into. If you had asked me to stop I probably wouldn't have either. If you didn't want your young kid to see ppl swearing and flicking the bird then you probably shouldn't have taken them to the game.
I know emotions get high in football and we often do things we wouldn't in our day to day lives. However, this is never an excuse for you to ruin someone else's game day experience. Especially the next generation of hokies.
You can't stop ppl from screaming and swearing at a football game, nor giving the bird. Doesnt matter how much you try and block it out for them. Bottom line is: if you're sensitive to your kids seeing that kind of thing, then you probably shouldn't take your kids to any stadium to see a game (at least at the college level or up)
I've been going to tech games since I was 3 and routinely sat near the student section. I have zero memories of seeing stuff like that. Either I didn't notice it, my dad was extremely good at shielding me from it, or it's gotten worse with this generation of college kids. An occasional bullshit chat was the worst I witnessed.
Been going to games since93 and i have never felt the need to give the finger to anybody and i try not to swear in public.
Thats all nice and gravy but not the norm
Dude, I'm a father of 5 young kids. If you sat in front of me, and were acting like that, I'd have a very big problem with your behavior. You need to have respect for those around you. The fella that posted this had every right to be offended, and made the classy move by relocating. I recently took my entire family of 7 to a college game in TX. Didn't see anything of this sort. I didn't do it as a student at Tech, and have almost zero memories of this happening around me, and I didn't miss a home game from 99-03. I dropped almost $1000 to take my family a week ago. If some kid is mouthing off and acting like this, Hokie or Wahoo, you darn bet I'm having words. It wasn't acceptable as a student, and it darn well isn't acceptable as a parent.
I get the reasoning behind not even taking them. But, to argue, I should be able to. Any competent human being can talk and have emotion in a game without f-bombs or the middle finger. Unacceptable.
I'm not saying it shouldn't be like that but it's naieve to think that stadiums are going to be your polite get togethers. Hell it's not even like that in bars where ppl are swearing and dropping f bombs left right and center. My point is yeah we all should be kumbaya at a sports event but if I get frustrated and say fuck at the top of my lungs I don't care if your 5 year old is near by or not.
I try to watch my mouth when young kids are around and behaved pretty well with the two in front of me this game until I heard their dad saying worse things than I would even without kids there so I felt more comfortable letting my emotions out when the situation called for it.
Speaking for myself, I'm not judging you or anyone for showing emotion or dropping f-bombs around kids at public events. I've done it myself, my point is when I've done so and felt like it was over the top, I either apologized to the parents or restrained myself the next time. There is still a level of decency we should all try to show even when in public.
I'm certainly not naive and being a parent know that most kids even before middle school are already hearing much worse things. I also know as a parent, you don't piss off papa bear and you damn sure don't mess with mama bear lol.
In the case of the uva guy I posted, it was the fact that he was combative IMO when confronted and asked to stop. Not just to the father, but to the other uva fan asking him to ease up.
Yeah ok pal. If you think you're going to be in a world where you're going to tell everyone at a football stadium to watch their mouth cuz your little kid is around, else you'll have "words" will them then good luck to you for that lol.
If that is true, that is a pretty sad comment on today's society.
I'm Navy and I understand the difference between polite company and the rest of th m*th3rf¥ch1n world.
That all of the undisciplined world has encroached upon stuff like college football does not make it right nor create excuses
Git yer crap into 1 sock and keep it out of the public space or eventually you will find herself facedown on the sidewalk, confused and lost.
It's a public space, pretend you're a gentleman and welcome in others that are not like yourself.
This is not directed at any particular individual. Straighten yerself out.
I'm having a bit of trouble deciphering your comment here
The downvotes aren't necessary y'all (although i find AXD's post to be a little over-the-top). The fact is that the stadium will have a lot of "kids" (as we like to call 18-24 year olds nowadays for some reason), many of whom are inebriated watching a game that they are passionate about. I think that if you put your kid in the heart of these types of fans (East Stands, NEZ), then it should be expected that this COULD happen. If you believe your kids are mature enough to view this type of behavior without retaining bad habits, that's your biz. If you're concerned about your kids viewing poor behavior and retaining it, perhaps the West or SEZ might be a better bet.
I don't personally like behaving like a disrespectful idiot (and am personally conscious of when children are around), but I think its a little too optimistic to EXPECT everyone to change their own personal behaviors b/c a child was brought around them in that sort of setting.
My point exactly. No one wants to act like a dick, bit it happens. Done expect anyone to change their habits just for your kid.
Being a dick and instigating a fight are two different things!
Another uva fan stepped in and told him it was embarrassing and to stop.
I've found myself cursing at games and when I notice kids around I shut it down and have apologized to parents for said language.
You're right though, you pay to get in and as long as it doesn't break stadium rules for expulsion, what you do is fair game.
This wasn't the only uva fan I saw trying to start fights either, but I get it, there are fans like these in every fanbase.
The problem is you have no way of knowing this person is a UVA fan.
He's literally wearing an asshat. It says "Cavaliers".
You have to zoom in in the picture to read it. That's the only thing that makes him a fan.
Compared to this
Or this:
See it now?!
They spelled "VA Liars" incorrectly.
Nah, I think they got it right.
Oh boy, not again.
Oh Boy, someone doesn't understand that I get their sarcasm, but was making a play on it.
Again.
How about a new term: Double Sarcasm?
I keep trying to interpret your play off that, but it must be too esoteric for me. I'm missing the joke. Apologies; I thought you were just trying to correct me again over something sarcastic or objective.
Nah, just trying to add to the fun, but a joke never works if you have to explain it.
Touché. Totally missed it. Swing and a miss. We'll connect another time. Have a leg, Key.
You, too. Cheers.
Someone took my Zima and brie and now I'm cranky.

Watch this and drink in those Hoo tears
If the picture above is the before, this is the after.
Looks like that guy had too much O'douls.
What a twat
TIL that you CAN get drunk off of Zima
While not as egregious as this, there were a pair of Hoo fans about 5 rows down from me who would stand up and give a golf clap every time UVA did anything of note. It was the most pretentious and lolUVA thing I've ever seen.
Nah, that's just pathetic. This was one of those "we'll stick our noses up into the air and clap like we're more cultured than you" kind of claps.
I love the girls expression, "ugh can't we just lose gracefully, I'm tired of being a pompous ass"
"Carruthers, my gloves!"
this lady deserves some respect. She is positive and supportive of a team that truly sucks. She makes bad life choices sure, but she at least supports the players killing themselves (getting killed) on the field.
Yeah, I always felt kind of bad for her in this gif. lol. She's attempting to rally the troops, but everyone is just doesn't give a fuck.
Virginia CavaLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLiers
Yeah wow. This is the guy in Sec 37 right? My classmate told be about him. The double birds were during Enter Sandman and accompanied by verbal eff you Hokies. Then my bud said Go Hokies to him when he crossed in front of him which illicited a response of "eff you old man".
We had a similar piece of work in sec 13 who was dropping F bombs 2 minutes in to the game and nearly started fight.
Yep, he was in section 37, but like I said, it worked out for us because we moved down to better seats.
There was this group of douchebag UVA guys near my group in the student section and they tried to pick a fight at every little thing that happened. They were all down at the front celebrating at the end of the game and when we won the police officers surrounded them for everyone's safety. I enjoyed seeing their tears
Those guys might have been the ones captured by the TV crew
During Enter Sandman, A UVA fan came and stood right behind us at the entrance of Section 14. The entire time he was talking up a storm to me and my cousin (both under 18), about this is the year and how we are a bunch of uneducated "asshats" and howI better go home and "sleep with one eye open to jesus and my mommy" I told him to choke on all 5000+ days. While leaving the stadium I saw this person again and held up the big 15. Dear lord was that sweet.
Probably better to ignore the asshats than to engage them.
Engaging them sort of rewards their behavior - they WANT you to respond in kind.
For some reason the gif won't work but here's the "After"
Saddest Hoo in all of Hooville
Wups just saw this was already posted.
Drinks on me.
Change the file extension from mp4 to gif. Now for captioning.
When Whole Foods is out of Zima
I bet that pizza box came from behind and whipped his ass during overtime
Now that is funny LMAO
"I said NO arugula on my pizza cuisine!"
There is a fan shot just after the punt block recovery. It's all giddy VT fans.
And one sad dude in a blue sweatshirt and white hat........
Now that's just a waste of a pizza box that could have been thrown in celebration!!!
There were a bunch there last night as they thought it was finally their time for a win.
I don't understand the people that don't act civil.
inferiority complex. It'll get after ya
Won't somebody think of the children....
They are the children.
Wish I had some cool stories like the rest of you, but the Hoo fans around me were *somewhat* tolerable.
I was looking over at Le Sabre and was honestly shocked at how horrible they are to each other.
I know we get on each Other at times but I rarely see people curse at each other or anything to that extent. It's almost like they hate each other.
I was hoping to see some reasonable responses from them on their thoughts but didn't find any really. I did skip around some so maybe I missed them.
There was a ton of "we're trending up and they are trending down and Fu sucks". Ummm I guess we can look at recruiting classes but one bad year doesn't make us trending down. And I know some were disappointed in Fu this year maybe from our own ignorance but I doubt by and large people are calling for his head like some tried to say over there.
Anyhow end result I want us to smash them next year. Love hearing Fuente say if they are gonna beat us it better be this year. Too late for that now so here's to another decade of dominance.
that message board is a cesspool. And a terrible, antiquated format.
Everything I saw was about how we're inbred hillbillies and how they'd never trade a win over VT for being more intellectual and higher class of society...
Then the traditional, we've never won anything before, and have never been ranked #1..
It must be lovely... the life of a Hoo...
As soon as we joined the ACC, we did something they've still never done in football, and that's win an outright conference title.
But they don't wanna hear that though...
Me showing up at their message boards to see their pain...

This is me strutting into work tomorrow.
The VP across the hall from me has a son that went to uva, she's already asked me to get it out of my system by Monday! lol
LOL
I'm seriously thinking about throwing the flags back on the car and blasting Enter Sandman as I roll into the parking lot.
Request denied.
The Sabre has been claiming that 'trending down' thing about VT for the past 10 years. And yet we still whip their ass when it counts.
Spoiled little momma's boys can't handle when things don't go their way, and that place became a permanent temper tantrum a long time ago.
Just saw this (I posted something similar on another thread). Totally agree; it's atrocious. Most everything they were bringing up had nothing to do with football either. Lots of extremely low blows too. One guy went on a rant about drug problems in SWVA and how that related to this game being the only thing they get up for. Disgusting, false, and unbelievable.
Yet their campus was pretty much home to a racist white supremacist rally, yikes!
Actually one of the more reasonable posters on their site mentioned that.
Sorry, but I find this an inappropriate comment. You do know that those people were not invited to Charlottesville by UVA, don't you? You do know that someone was killed, and two State Policemen died as a result of that rally, right? Like bringing up the shooting at VT, this sort of comment is just unacceptable and disappointing, in my opinion.
Agreed.
Beyond their control, and irrelevant.
"More birds than fans at the UVA spring
gamefestival."I feel extremely fortunate that the three UVA students who were sitting behind me were about as well behaved as one could hope for three undergrads from a rival school to be.
There was one VT fan behind us in section 3 that really let the obnoxious uva fans near us have it when they pulled ahead and they felt it was appropriate to get "rowdy." There was some trash talk about why can't their fans fill their own stadium or go to their own home games. It nearly brought a tear to my eye. They shut up pretty quickly.
A Hoo on Facebook kept using the term "Public Ivy" and referring to Tech as a vocational school. So ridiculously ridiculous.
Hopefully they just mean that little section of town off 250
Im just glad I was able to punch out a research position at MIT then a corporate sponsored MBA coming out of my meager SWVA vocational school. I can tell you the lab I worked at for MIT didn't recruit at UVA lmao and my shit came straight out of the tech career fair back in the day haha.
I saw quite a few UVA fans throughout the day and didn't have a single negative experience including a really nice family of Wahoos in front of us at the game. I was actually embarrassed by a Hokie in front of Sharkeys dancing in front of a group of Hoos, taunting and throwing middle fingers after the game. Come on dude, don't be a douche. We've done this 15 times in a row now, act like you've been here before.
I regret not being able to award more legs to this comment, because it's the correct response.
I posted this in another thread but it belongs here:
We had one dickhead wahoo in our section who almost got into fights with people in my section. I learned later why (although he was a huge asshole and chanted ODU all game)...he brought the shooting into his shit talking. Our sections collective shit talking to him while he tucked tail and left was the best part of the win to me.
wow....that's pretty freaking awful. That's a dude that needs a complete ass kicking.
We are VT.
Respect
No excuses. We represent.
Defend those weaker than ourselves.
Instruct those not as gentlemanly this. Ourselves.
Live to our own guidelines.
