I came across this article on Bleacher Report - and it has some legit points.
As far as I can remember, I have made the VT/Miami game in Blacksburg my annual "must-go-to-game." My first Miami/VT game was November 8, 1997. The most memorable: 1999 when we thrashed them on the way to the NC game. But by far, my favorite game of all time was 2003.

Bleacher Report got something remotely right!
Ha - that's exactly what I thought too. And, AND it wasn't a slide show.
Thanks a lot, Swofford, for giving us a terrible home & away schedule
My first VT vs Miami was the rain game in '09. Miami was coming into Lane ranked #9 (I think we were #11) and they were supposed to spank us. RMFW had other ideas though as we beat the Canes 31-7!

I was at that game. it was awesome!!!!
Before the game, as per ESPN blogger comments:
"swag"
"we bak"
"Jacory 4 Heisman"
"VT doesn't beat top 10 teams"
After the game:
"it was rainy and cold and we're from Miami"
"we're a speed team and the rain messed up our gameplan"
"we got 5 rings, so what?"
"congratulations on winning your Super Bowl"
Killed my 1st iPhone but was totally worth it
Killed my phone as well. Agreed - well worth it!!
Plastic sandwich bags, people. I personally believe they were put on this Earth for precisely these occasions.
I was there too! And it was my first as well. It was so miserable out that day. A few friends left early but I stayed through the rain and cold until the scoreboard was 00:00. I was so happy.
we wuz there, the stands that day were like a giant party.
I'll always remember on the BT ride to Lane from Foxridge, some Miami fans saying it was never too late for us to become Hurricanes...6-hours later, we had the last laugh!
Dorian Porch's hit at 2:55 would've gotten him ejected in today's game and that's some bullshit.
Oh this hit????
Yeah, that stayed as my desktop wallpaper for at least a year!
I think he's talking about the potential "targeting/defenseless receiver" hit. But who doesn't like seeing Jacory getting smacked around?
I just saw 'Dorian Porch' and 'hit' and my mind went straight to that...
#allthehappybourbonblurredmemories!
That was a great win..didn't vent mind getting sick the next day.
I took my little brother to this game (GMU alum). We tailgated in the rain, got drunk, lost his ticket, scalped a replacement and ruined his phone in the rain. Halfway through the second quarter, I asked him how he was enjoying it and he said, "This is the greatest sporting event I have ever been to."
I miss those jerseys
One of the things that stuck out to me that game was Jimmy Graham dropping just about every pass that was thrown his way and thinking, "wow, someone is going to overdraft this complete project."
I think it's safe to say that he has done OK thus far in the NFL.
Miami is my most hated above WVU and UVA
Best game 2003. That was awesome
Worst game 2005. That hurt
Our games vs Miami are typically classics.
Same here. On top of it all, their fans are the most pompous people in the world, especially for a Univeristy that is private and only has 4,500 students on it's main campus in Coral Gables. Have never had an experience where I would invite a Miami fan to tailgate - Most other schools, including UVA, have fans that you can hang out with and still have a rivalry - Miami fans are different.
Ugh, I was at '05 in the NEZ... watched Marcus fumble the game away right in front of me.
there were rumblings back then that marcus threw that game.
i've always blamed the sleeves.
Man, Blue Collar - we post the same thing at the same time and think the same way.
Same here - he played so poorly it seemed he got paid to throw the game away. It's like the orange sleeve was his poison.
The 2005 game was what convinced me that mid-game Sandman was bad luck. Down a couple scores, the crowd finally got into it after Sandman, and Marcus promptly fumbled. Then, when they played it during the '10 GT game for DW4's kickoff return TD, everyone started going nuts and I was standing there screaming, "NOOOO! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?" None of the people around me got it, they were too young. Of course, it worked out fine, but I was panicked for a few moments there.
I am glad to say that I have witnessed many happy Miami memories in Lane - '03, '09, and '11 being some of the best games I have ever experienced.
Agreed, I can't help but spit when I talk about the U. They are such the unhokies.
We need to beat them this year, to continue our Revenge Tour of 2013!
REVENGE TOUR 2013!!!!! I love it!!
My fav is 2011. Easily the best home game I've ever been to.
wasn't there unfortunately, but my favorite home game I've ever seen on TV.
The best VT/Miami game that I saw was 2003..the game in 2009 would be second on my list.
Can a hammer and a nail have a rivalry? Don't they need to win more than every five years?
I was sitting at the south end zone in 06 I believe it was when Glennon hit Justin Harper with that bomb that he caught one handed for a td. I was about 5 rows away from that one. My favorite that I went to was 99 though. That one was amazing
2003 was my favorite game ever in Lane. I still have fond memories of the game in 2001 even though we lost. The blocked punt returned for TD was the loudest individual moment I ever heard in Lane.
I also went to both Miami games in Miami during my 4 years at Tech as I have family down that way. That place was such a pit and the fans were not much better. I really really do not like Miami
I was in the stadium for the '03 game. Best. Game. Ever. It was the last game I attended at VT and I will always hold fond memories of it...and the Miami fans who got kicked out the stadium for picking fights with Tech students.
I like to pretend the season ended with that Miami game and Pitt, uva, cal never happened. Even taking into account last year that was by far my least favorite season since the expectations were so high.
2011 is the highest for me. From the ballsy decision to run a Logan Thomas keeper to me being on my knees in gratitiude when Alonzo Tweedy stopped Lamar Miller to seal the win. It took me all evening and a few beers to bring my nerves down.
2012 is the most painful I have ever watched...the Hokies just faceplanted and some in that game, never have I seen them look so out of sort, but that Logan Run for 73-yard was awesome.
I also remember that pure domination in the rain from the start to finish. What was so epic about that beatdown was Bud Foster posting on every defensive players' lockers, "You have a responsibility to continue the tradition" after citing some statistics. Let's just say the players were Bud Foster angry. (I can't say Sam Rogers angry, because nobody would survive that).
2001 is the only time I've gotten to a Miami game in Lane (Ernest %^&*ing Wilford). One of the best games I've ever seen even though we lost. Also, MV7 stays for that year and we'd have won that game by at least 10.
Has to be 1999 for me. It was my first game and I was only 9 at the time, but from that night on I knew I would be a Hokie.
I was 17. I had gotten a concussion that morning playing backyard football. I can remember the field swimming under me during the game. There was no way I was gonna miss Mike Vick and Corey Moore put on a show.
2001 was great in the stands. Ernest Wilford's catch was the best feeling of my life, followed immediately by the worst. 2011 was probably my favorite, that was a back and forth match that went all the way to the wire and gave us the best Enter Sandman of all time.
Might be the best team or at least one of the best VT has ever played..
I'm of the opinion that 2001 Miami was the greatest team of all time. Let alone whether we played them or not.
Well, I'm inspired. I feel like making a Miami VT trailer.
This won't jinx anything, right?
That would be awesome!
Can't wait to see it. "Give it to me, Dozer!" ~ Bill Roth
2009 for me. Because that loss caused Miami to go downhill fast.
Do you all remember this interview in the 2009 pre-game on TV? This season, interview, and game was the last straw for me in any discussion on Miami being back. 34-0, what a joke. If you can last more than 30 seconds watching it without sticking a fork in your eye to end the pain then you are a bigger man than me.
