Breaking... Bowling Green hires Scot Loeffler to lead program https://t.co/qfr7M5ERF2 pic.twitter.com/5g1KdgzNdR— FootballScoop Staff (@FootballScoop) November 28, 2018
I did a quick google search and this might be the first coach under Beamer to get a FBS HC job. So yea I guess.

That's actually a huge blow to the Fightin' Dudes at BC. Guess I'll be paying closer attention to Bowling Green during MACtion for the next few seasons.
Agree - Leoffler is a good football coach and a grinder, and good recruiter/eye for talent. I think we are seeing now at VT, that you just can't put on a maroon hoodie, be an "offensive" coach and make our offense work. Leoffler got undue criticism while here, IMO.
Especially when your offense has a different risk posture then that espoused by the head coach.
I'll go to my grave saying that point is "overrated". Beamer didn't like mistakes and turnovers on offense- neither does any good coach, neither does Justin Fuente matter of fact. Beamer's offensive "philosophy" was simply control the clock and don't turn the ball over. He was also an old QB that loved to throw the deep ball off play action. He loved "mobile" QBs before Urban Meyer and JoePa did. He was not some anti-offense guy, I'll stand by that.
That mindset at offense complemented our defense very well, too. There's a reason we owned the ACC for pretty much a decade, and had all those trips to BCS Bowls.
I'm not sure that three of our four worst seasons in the decade, when the defense was still pretty solid, gives a lot of room to credit Lefty with anything beyond (perhaps) recruiting well.
You'd be naieve to think that was all on Scotty though. Cupboard was incredibly bare when Lefty got here and you can't bake a cake when all you have are shit ingredients (hyperbole, but you get my drift). Yes he did recruit incredibly well for us and that paid dividends for our first two seasons with Fuente.
This.
But you can bake a pie, and a special pie at that. Haven't you seen or read The Help?
I am so freaking confused right now. Loeffler is undoubtedly a hard worker and likely a good guy, but when did he become a good recruiter/eye for talent? Take a look at his top all time commits list on 247 and you'll see that's total revisionist history. So while we did get some very good offensive players during his time here, Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips were heavily attributed Aaron Moorehead, Bucky Hodges was primarily recruited by Stinespring, and Travon McMillian's primary recruiter was Foster.
As far as Loeffler getting undue criticism, the offense under the new staff has been superior using essentially every statistical measure. Yet people want the new staff fired while now claiming Loeffler didn't get a fair shake. The internet is truly an insane place.
I wonder if Addazzio hires Ryan Day (OSU QB coach) to be his new OC, or if Day is already too hot for a mid-level P5 coordinator job.
Unless BC strikes oil on campus tonight and gives him the rights to it, they don't have a snowball's chance in hell at stealing Day away from Ohio State.
Day played for Chip Kelly at UNH, coached at BC in a handful of different stints. He is from New Hampshire.
BC will make a run at him for HC whenever the Addazio dude experiment ends, assuming he hasn't already got a far better job, which could realistically happen this off-season. He is going to be at the top of many wish lists. Day might even get Urban's job, if Urban retires for another year and a half so he can take his pick of the top tier jobs as they open.
Ta-daahhhh
Yep! Now all that's left is to see what job Urban waits it out for over @ESPN.
Don't think anybody on this earth including him and his wife believe he is done for good.
You think he and his wife have talked? Does she know he is retiring?
They don't share much
Ryan Day was actually already the BC OC... a few years ago, for Steve Addazzio...
He left for an NFL job with Chip Kelly.
Day is 100x more likely to be the next BC head coach than he is the OC.
I don't know how the dudes are gonna do at Bowling Green, but they are gonna throw it to the shade. Good for Lefty.
Tweet from BGSU Athletics:
looking at the responses to that tweet, it seems the BG fans are excited to have him.
I hope he does well tbh.
Same here. As long as he's not in the ACC or one of our regular OOC games, all the best for him.
Who woulda thought that old Scotty L would be the guy to go on and become a head coach? Maybe he has the mind for it.
Well....Good for him I guess.
Also I believe Ron Zook coached under CFB in his first season.
The head equipment manager at Bowling Green was the Graduate Assistant at VT, and held an equipment position at Tech for a long time doing Olympic Sports.
He was also at ODU when they came up with the lion inside the state on the side of the helmet.
Oh I know... he was my superior.
Can we talk about the "Ziggy Ziggy Zoomba" script behind the picture of Lefty? I thought Hokie Hi was random...
I'm not gonna lie, I didn't notice this was a news release at first and thought it was just a meme of Lefty's internal monologue
You need to update your handle to include Ryan Willis and JJ
That would be tempting fate for next season my friend.
Not gonna go over this again
I thought maybe it was his play calling sheet. "Zoomba" = jet sweep.
Could we replace the remaining ECU games with Bowling Green?
I'd prefer we rotate various G5 programs on the schedule, as others have suggested. I believe 2012 was the last time we played Bowling Green.
Yea- my joke aside - I am on board with that too - even if it was with G5 within our recruiting 'hotbed' areas: ODU, UNC Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, App State, then throw in Elon and Richmond to round it out from a FBS perspective.
Well, BC's offense will likely get better now.
BC's offense finished 95th by S&P and 80th by FEI this season, if you were wondering how the advanced metrics lined up for him this year.
Nice headshot Scot
Don't forget about Ricky Bustle at ULL.
Ron Zook would like a word as well.
You got me, but I fixed it!
I bet Florida had wished they hired Rob Zook....couldn't really be any worse, could it?
Rickey was hired by ULL in December of 2001, and Zook wasn't hired until January of '02, so Rickey still gets the nod for first.
Also, how many folks knew before reading your comment that Zook coached under Beamer during his first year as Head Hokie? I certainly did not.
I had read it referenced before, but I didn't actually know when he coached for Bearmer.

Ricky Bustle, QB/WR coach and OC VT 87-93 and OC/QB coach 95-01, became HC at UL-Lafayette 02-10.
Maybe HC is a good move for him, but OC isnt his thing. He did work under Urban Meyer at UF so he might have gotten a good word from a former BG coach. If he can hire some one that can call a drive without having to put a drive killing play in it, then he may go far.
I think he'd be a better NFL OC than College OC
I can see that stylistically, but his play calling was lacking. I never felt like his offensive worked to set up plays later. Or the plays they set up were convoluted and had a small chance of working.
Wow. Tough crowd.
I wish him the best of luck.
Awesome. Good luck Lefty
Why does his picture look like he can't believe he got the job?
He went to mime school and mimicked me when I saw that he got a head coaching job.
That's a five-star get-after-it comment.
Well good for him. While his playcalling was somewhat painful at times, I think he helped improve our recruiting. I hope he does well there.
Hopefully Kent State will hire Curt Newsome away from EHC now. Anything is possible.
This is the equivalent of wishing a plague of locusts on the state of Ohio. Then again, he's still in my state, infesting it. So, maybe that's ok.
I think he might be a good HC. Most of his criticisms are unfair in my opinion. I also think Stinespring would make a good HC if given the chance.
Congrats, Coach Loeffler
Honestly, I think he'll be a really good head coach. Best of luck to him, and I hope he succeeds.
He got a harsh rap here. Good Luck to him there was never any doubt he gave it his all. Hope he gets some competent assistants so he can actually sleep.
Maybe he can land Kliff at OC and Gene Chizik at DC
Now that would be funny.
Spider 2 y banana or something!
Good to see Beamer's coaching tree grow. Good luck, Scot.
Good for him. No ill will towards the man at all, but also glad that we don't have to risk being beaten by him anytime soon.
Unless, of course, we want to replace ECU on all the non-Marshall years with Bowling Green, then I'd risk it.
Yup. Losing to BC this year, was enough.
BGSU message board seems extremely positive about the hire. Says that Leoffler's wife going to BGSU is a huge plus to the school and that he knows the region really well
Thought it was interesting that Lefty hired Warner to be the QB coach. As some of you might remember, Warner was Dwayne Lawson's OC in high school and got a job as VT's Offensive Quality Control coach during Lawson's freshman year. He coached high school for three years until he got this job.
It speaks volumes to Warner's ability that Lefty hired him to be the QB coach in particular given Lefty's reputation as a pseudo QB whisperer.
This confirms it. Dwayne Lawson is transferring to Bowling Green.
(I hate myself for making this joke, but it had to be done)
With Dwayne Lawson at QB and Drew Harris at RB, they are going to be hard to stop.
It's almost the law.
It's the Law, son
