UNC solidly beat Gonzaga and still ranked behind them?
We won't move much until conference play and we can get better competition.
I get it was in Carolina, but still, that was a whooping
didn't UT beat the zags too?
Correct
Zags also beat Duke while we've played a pretty pathetic schedule. If Buzz wanted us to move up the rankings in December, we should have scheduled more than 2 or 3 competitive non-conference games.
Protip: It's not about the rankings in December. It's about March/April.
Loluva tip: it's not about rankings in March/April it's about winning games.
Fixed it:

winning gamesnot losing to a 16 seed in hilariously historic fashion.Go UMBC Retrievers!
I know Duke already is doing the same, but we should find a way to have key members of the UMBC team be honorary invitees to the UVa-VT game in Cassell this year.
(No, really... Duke put out a special invite to K.J. Maura to watch the Duke-Virginia game in Cameron)
Movement up will start once the conference schedule begins.
Or down, looking dangerous on the ACC play this year...
Danger is our middle name
"Virginia Danger Tech"? Yeah, that's gotta hurt recruiting.
/s
I believe it's University of Virginia Danger Tech...
Quality Loses...
Texas Plays duke in a weekday, so there's room to move up at least one spot before conference play.
According to KenPom (created by a VT grad btw), we're 11th with the 6th best offense in the country. (Link Here).
I never knew Ken Pomeroy was a Hokie, according to Wikipedia he lived in Vawter no less. That is pretty damn cool. Thanks for sharing
If we keep winning the rankings will take care of themselves.
How we handle the ACC portion of our schedule will be real test.
We all know how good NAW has been this season, but I just looked, and in the last 4 games (that is since the Penn St loss) he has shot 27/43 overall and 9/15 from distance. That is 63% and 60%, respectively. In those games he also has a total of 14 assists and 8 steals. In the 4 games since Duke's loss to Gonzaga, Zion has shot 33/49 (67%) overall and 0/6 from distance. He has racked up 11 assists and 12 steals in those games. Those stats right there are why people are really starting to talk about NAW. He has been that good. Crazy that we have this kind of talent in a VT uniform.
Reading what you say about NAW gave me pause, thinking you are giving a little bit too much credit to NAW to be comparing him to Zion based on a feeling that Duke was playing much higher quality opponents. So I went to the box scores for minutes played and to the current NET rankings.
Zion is averaging 25.3 min/game in the last 4 [Indiana (20), Stetson (341), Hartford (225), and Yale (93)] against an average opponent ranking of 169.8.
NAW is averaging 26 min/game in the last 4 [CCSU (201), VMI (330), SC St. (350), and Washington (57)] against an average opponent ranking of 234.5.
End result for me? Pleasantly surprised about the stats being competitive/similar, but I would still be betting hard that, given 2 identical teams of 4, Zion's team would beat NAW's team more often than not. But still, great point that it is crazy (and exciting) that we've got NAW on our team!
