LOLVT

With all the hate that we have been sending out to UVa over the last few weeks it is time for us to look past the mirage that this team was. A TERRIBLE offense, when I say terrible I mean possibly the worst Virginia Tech offense I have ever seen. Now we get to listen to the media push us down once again!

For all those Logan lovers out there, "what the?"

We deserve all the criticism we get from anywhere it comes from. Disaster mode.

I don't even..

What am I doing with my life?

I hate everything.

*sobs uncontrollably*

I've done my share of mocking UVa, but we've all gotten carried away and this is a stark reminder of that fact. When we start winning consistently again, then we can talk.

"Exit light..."

Once IF we beat UVA this year, it will resume

I don't want to hear "Decade of Dominance" again until it actually happens, because right now, I'm just hoping it does.

"Exit light..."

BTW I would like to add that I really think both the coaches and the team looked past this game, but I do not think they were the only parties to do this. Most of the people on this website, and Hokie Nation in general (including myself) did as well. WE CANNOT KEEP DOING THIS. This is the difference between a top tier program, and quite frankly, a pretender.

Exit Light, Enter Night....Go Hokies

I may get some downvotes for this, and my intention here is not to be snarky (because I fully agree with you), but any time someone said "focus on Duke," the response was, "we're fans, let us have fun" and continue on like it was a win. This was a reality check for a lot of people.

"Exit light..."

Fans don't need to focus on a team, the players and coaches do. That is all.

True enough, but I think that the pain would be less if everyone wasn't already hoping for an ACC Championship or more. I refrained from saying it in another thread last week or so, but we do this every year. We see some success, get all excited and start planning our trips to the big bowls, and something screws up. I don't mean that to be pessimistic or defeatist about the team, but when stuff like this happens, it validates (in my own mind) the practice of setting very realistic expectations. I knew Duke would give us their best (which still wasn't very good) for what they had on the line. Just disheartening.

Oh well, film review at some point to see what happened and then hopefully this is motivation enough to play like never before against BC. I expect another slog, though.

"Exit light..."

Being a fan for well over twenty years has led me to know that shit happens. I've seen too many games lost in the last two minutes, ricky hall dropping a pass in the endzone versus temple, and other stupid plays to know, nothing is a sure thing with the hokies. Some of the newer fans and students don't remember that and have crazy expectations.

Just hope thus game humbled the team, so they can focus ahead. A hurt md team put it up on Clemson, bc plays hard, Miami will be tough, UVA will be out for blood. It doesn't get easy, and any game could be a lose.

A good dose of humility, in the proper amount and at the proper time, can be good. I'm definitely with you there. How they come out against BC will tell us a lot about this team, more than we thought we had learned already.

"Exit light..."

Football is a game played on Saturday. When Saturday rolls around, anything can happen and teams have to take care of business or else they lose. I was kind of surprised at the amount of 4th downs Beamer went after (some I liked, but some I didn't). I don't think I would pin this solely on LT--I think the wind/tipped passes contributed to 3/4 INT's. This was a team loss, and a bad one at that. It was a huge reality check and I'll be a monkey's uncle if we come out this poorly next week. On the other hand, I don't know why we still have Journell as our kicker. I would have thought some serious effort would have gone in to recruiting and/or training Ludwig, or someone, to start place kicking. Special teams let us down, Offense let us down. It just sucks.

I think that if we had an alternative to Journell we would be seeing him. 42 yards field goals you should make in College and gets you fired if you miss in the NFL.

Oh I completely agree--I say the same thing about LT. If leal were a truly viable candidate to help us win, why didn't he play?

In any case, Journell's inconsistencies aren't new...I know he is our best option, but man....2 misses under 42 yards, that is negative points in my fantasy league.

Well...it's actually a game that's played on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Also Monday's during Labor Day weekend, but I get your point! ;-)

ChicagoHokie

You might have to stock up on bananas for when the nephews come to visit over the holidays.

The offense can come out as fired up to play as anybody, but if you aren't very good, your spirit can't throw/catch/run/block for you.

Leonard. Duh.

fans dont play the game. furthermore, anyone who had seen duke play this year knew they were dangerous

so i guess duke owns the state of virginia?

But do they own North Carolina?

Kicking game is not helping. But LT consistently missed wide open receivers and Beamer should have benched him after his 3rd interception! When a QB is having a bad day it's ok to bench him. I'm not a LT hater... He is what he is... Incosistent! But he needed to be taken out... He was having a bad day!

Shades of 2008 Duke...cold as hell, Tyrod throws 3 picks and I think had a fumble as well...yank him, Glennon was the better choice that day. Also, on field goals, we have a better chance of having Sam Rogers look at the ball and will it through.

we have a better chance of having Sam Rogers look at the ball and will it through.

First time I've laughed in hours. Well done and thank you.

"Exit light..."

For all the LT 3 haters out there he still had 300 Yards of offense 214 yards throwing and 101 yards rushing. He was rusty and made bad throws and reads the four ints show this but he was still our leading rusher and he completed 21 out of 38 attempts.

Dukes QB Boone for comparison had only 151 yards of offense 107 yards throwing and 44 yards rushing. He was his teams leading rusher and also threw four ints and only completed 7 out of 26 throws.

Statistically the better team lost today. I know that means nothing but it is a long season and we can still make it to the ACCG if we win out.

A new season...new hope

Three of his four interceptions were just awful decisions. He missed a lot of other plays as well, not just on those interceptions. Regardless, his play today lost them the game, despite the missed FG. He needs to take responsibility for that, and work to not let it happen again.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

As badly as it stings, we weren't in the MNC picture anyway. Win out, take the Coastal, and SMASH BUTTHOLES IN THE ACCCG

Rusty?

Really? That's the explanation we are going with here?

No. He was awful. 100 yards of rushing? That's nice and all. I'd have preferred half that and a read option game that doesn't rely on a mental coin-flip by the QB that got at least half his yards after contact close to the LOS.

Maybe the film breakdown will prove me wrong, but his choices left a lot of yards on the field, where the RB had room to run.

I hope he is rusty and can bounce back to the form he had going into the bye week. If not hello Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl

A new season...new hope

I think that's one of the most frustrating this about LT he seems to take the ball in those read option plays when he shouldn't. I've seen no one even look at the running back everyone keys in on LT during those plays. I think its not helping our offense. Most of our runs are draws and sweeps from the shotgun and I think that it helps throw the defense off sometimes, but its done too often to be used as a weapon. When our offense lines up in I-form we get zero push what so ever and there's no holes opening. I know that's not all of Grimes fault, but I'm hoping that something changes next year.

To say a quarterback got rusty from a bye is just perplexing. I love this site, but some of the things I read make me really confused. And if any of the film reviews this week have a pro-Logan slant I'll be further puzzled.

How can saying that be perplexing? He wasn't in game situations throwing the ball to his receivers and it appeared to me just watching the game live that he and a lot of other players were at best flat the first half. I put that up to the bye week and losing the momentum from the last 6 wins...His play was terrible there is no way he should have thrown 4 picks and he missed wide open reads (again this is what I saw live have not watched the game again).

A new season...new hope

You are 100% right...this season is far from over...there is no doubt we are the better team. However, the only statistics that matter to me are wins and losses and we lost. My point is Logan is not a reliable Quarterback throwing picks like he does. With the way the defense played (as always) we should have had no problem with this game. Blame Logan, blame Loeffler, blame Beamer for all I care. This was a LET DOWN. And now that I think about it maybe we should blame ourselves for thinking we were more than we actually are.

Exit Light, Enter Night....Go Hokies

Call me a 'hater' all you want, but let's be real here, he's a 5th year senior playing like a true freshman... inaccurate throws, throwing into coverage... 0 touchdowns, 4 interceptions

and he is also your entire offense that is my point....

A new season...new hope

then that just highlights the sad state of affairs the offense is in

Um. He had a touchdown bro. Let's not just discredit what he does in the rushing game. Look. Here's the deal. Beamer believes in LT3 because of his leadership abilities. I think this speaks more to Leal than it does LT3 really. People are talking about Leal being a front runner for next years starter. Really!? He should be head shoulders over everyone else the way everyone talks about him. I can only assume that he must be massively talented and just doesn't give enough of a shit. Say what you want about Logan, but he gives a shit. He gives to much of a shit. He breaks down emotionally when he feels like he is letting his team down.

Passing stat line bro. 4 turnovers bro. Nobody is saying he isn't a good player or a good person, bro. But when asked to do the fundamental things a QB at any level is required to do, he just can't do it, bro.

Reading this exchange made me think of this

bro

Is it his fault the receivers tip the ball and the dbs pick off a deflected pass? No!
Is is his fault we have a Td pass waved off the board due to a stupid penaly by an experienced WR? No!
Is it his fault a Sr kicker misses multiple "gimme" field goals? No.
Is it his fault he has to be the leading running back for consecutive seasons? No!
Im tired of hearing this crap!! If he had some help we wouldnt be having this discussion. The coaches know that. The team knows that. And i think for the most part....most of the fans do.
We've been here before. We should consider ourselves fortunate to be 6-2.
We're gonna b ok!!! Go Hokies!!!

TN_Hokie

We're gonna b ok!!!

Main take away from this right here. If there's nothing else you read on this site today, read "We're gonna b ok!!!"

Is it his fault the receivers tip the ball and the dbs pick off a deflected pass? No!

Except it was in just about every case on Saturday - he threw to a blanketed receiver often in double coverage. He was forcing throws and they were getting tipped and bounced around. He got away with a few as well. Several of these plays also had open receivers elsewhere, but he wasn't progressing through his reads and keying on one guy. That is his fault. Not saying he's a terrible QB or Person, but he was the primary reason we lost that game - even with his yardage totals.

Sorry, yards mean squat if you don't win the game. I honestly don't care how many yards you have if you throw interceptions, make bad decisions, and lose the game. In the end, ugly or not, a win is most important thing to get.

We need a team leader who wins games. Who can make the right decisions and do so quickly.

Like it or not LT3 is the closest thing to a winning leader we have this year. No one else on our offense is remotely close to being the playmaker Logan's been. Winning teams don't fall to pieces when there QB isn't carrying the team.

How do you know that anyone else can't be a leader? No other QB has played this year or been given the chance. I also didn't see our team go to pieces. I saw some bad decisions. When you exchange a big play(possible TD) for an int, you lose.

yeah bro i love logan and all those stats... but 7-1 is a lot better than 6-2...with a big fat L to duke

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

I agree with you there

A new season...new hope

My biggest beefs with this are twofold:

1) We've only prepared Logan. No one else can step in because (I'm guessing) no one else gets the reps needed in practice to run the offense.

2) Because we put so much on Logan, he becomes the only option. Logan not throwing well? Well, then I guess we'll have to run him. It doesn't look like we plan for anything except Logan.

I just keep thinking back to my expectations at the beginning of the year. I expected a lot of offensive struggles, tough wins, and some tough losses. I was lulled into a sense that this team was doing great, when in reality, they were just exceeding my expectations. Today, they finally met my expectations sadly. I think LT is the only choice as well, but there was something freaky about this game. Tipped balls, bobbled passes, refs that seemed one-sided...I don't know--this is tough, but this is not a championship caliber team and I never expected them to be in contention for the ACCCG. I also didn't expect their first ACC loss to be against Duke...

I don't care if our qb throws for 200 yrds a game and rushes for 50 yrds a game as long as he wins. Logan was pathetic again tonight, and he deserves nothing but criticism for his performance. And honestly he should have been benched tonight. PITTSBURGH Put over 50 on dukes defense to put things in perspective

I totally understand where you're coming from. We benched Glennon for Taylor. We also benched Taylor for Glennon. When something's not going well, we need to stop doing it. On the other hand, I'm not coaching these guys. I don't know what our other QBs are like. I don't know how hard they work. I don't know what the psychological effect of benching X Y or Z is. I put a lot of faith into these coaches. Sure, it stings sometimes, but they're damn fine coaches and know a whole hell of a lot more about football and this team than I do.

Give JP Losman the same time of possession and he'd likely put up the same stat line (maybe minus an interception though).

"Mountains get big cause they have no natural predators." - Ken M

we just compared one of our players to JP Losman...

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

Yea. My wife's Logan Thomas jersey will someday be stored with my Bills JP Losman jersey in some remote closet to never be opened again.

You read that correctly. I have a JP Losman jersey.

[hangs head in shame]

"Mountains get big cause they have no natural predators." - Ken M

I'm just hoping that an amazing player takes the number 3 after him so I can keep wearing it. Thankfully Keysheon and Coleman are good otherwise I wouldn't have a jersey.

“I hope that they’re not going to have big eyes and pee down their legs so to speak,” -- Bud Foster

I've found 11 to be pretty good since Adibi. Dyrell wasn't bad until his senior year and now I have Kendall for the next 2 -3 years.

“When life knocks you down plan to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up, if you fall flat on your face it can kill your spirit” David Wilson

I don't hate Logan Thomas, I hate 4 interceptions, one being in the red-zone and an offense that doesn't capitalize on 4 turnovers when a defense owns an opponent.

Keep calm, Gobble on

I'm SO happy that people aren't on here making excuses. There aren't any. Has Beamer spoke on the radio yet?

logan sucked, but journell....what has he done to jump in beamers pocket and be protected by this coaching staff. honestly this and bc are both trap games which i think we all felt coming.

we're a horrific offense and great d. the d played its ass off and the offense did nothing to help.

there are so many question marks in this offense, shane and his "rb coach" postion, logans true skill set, receivers and their catches, the offensive line and pass protection/run blocking....kicking situation for field goals (cause yes thats offensive)

we have so much to work on, and realistically were not a 14th ranked team. we need to get back to old school vt football

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

I FREAKING knew the first thing Beamer was going to say was, "Gotta give them credit

Wtf. I'm tired of hearing that. I'm DONE with hearing that.

Frank has 'coach speak' down to an art form... dont let it get to you

I know it is the respectful thing to say, I really do. Sorry if I sounded rash, just a little butt-hurt over here. But for once I would love to hear Beamer say what we did wrong without sounding like a broken record and saying that we have to give credit to the opposing team.

Everyone knows Frank will be diplomatic with the media. That's all irrelevant. It's what he says to the team and the coaches that matters.

"Exit light..."

Checkout the post I just made. Irks me too.

As bad as the offense played, Duke played better than we did today. When we were on offense, at least. So, credit to them. I'm tired of hearing that after a loss, too, because I feel like we threw this one away (literally and figuratively), but Duke of old would have still lost. This one didn't.

Yeah, Duke definitely was the better team today with our help. It just hurts when stupid mistakes cause a loss and then Beamer praises the other team. I understand it is classy (I love that we have one of the classiest coaches in the nation!) but tonight I would've rather heard him say "we made mistakes, we did this wrong, and this wrong and it's inexcusable" rather than making Duke sound like they played great. Neither team played great.

I'm getting really sick of being down-voted for my opinion...

Thanks, but hey, I'm not the only one who needs to recover. Things will be brighter in the morning and we'll come back against BC.

True that. Just hate all these willy nilly down votes.

We got a lot to fight for this season. Still a great season and better than last year.

Uh you do realize (and this is just based on yesterday) that we could very well lose our remaining 4 games and end up with the exact same reg season record as last year.

DFWTF...DON'T FUCK WITH THE FULLERS

It is a possibility. But then there are a lot of possibilities. Like only winning one more game, making this regular season still better than last. I suspect that our boys didn't give credit to Duke, and Duke played to win. I'm hoping the team doesn't make the same mistake.

The chip on the shoulder has returned.

This game reminded me of a few others I saw in years gone by. Temple 98, JMU 10, Cincinnati 95. All of them had some of the same tell-tale signs; missed opportunities in the red zone, over confidence etc. etc. We'll be fine. Wouldn't want to be on the practice field this week though.

"I'll put a quote here to distract you from my inane comment."-Me

We have more than just Cinci 95 as examples of games we just didn't show up for. I think the only time I've felt good about playing Cinci was the time we played them for our bowl game.

In the end, we are the team we though we were before the 6 game run.

And that's not a horrible place to be. I'm looking forward to seeing where we are after Lefty & Grimes have a couple years for their recruits to matriculate.

Also, I will never say that it is time for Beamer to go. He has done way to much, but as Hokiegirl said, I am so tired of hearing his coach-speak. Say the team played like shit. Say the coaching staff did not give the team the best chances to win the game. Light a fire under some asses Frank!

Exit Light, Enter Night....Go Hokies

preach!

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

If he says that, he will have to change his last name to "Spurrier".

And to make everyone's night that much better... remember all those recruits we brought in for the game?

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

hey at least the defensive players saw what they could be a part of

VT CEE Class of 2016/2017

5 years, 2 degrees, 33 football games as a student, and 2 Cassell court stormings later, I bleed Maroon and Orange

Yeah. Any chance for a pity commit?

Was thinking that during the game. I saw the camera crew pan over some of them I.believe. Hopefully the rest of their visit was good. Maybe we can use this to say "LOOK HOW BADLY WE NEED YOU!"

Maybe we can use this to say "LOOK HOW BADLY WE NEED YOU!"

Ahh yes.

The "Hoo" strategy.

Well played, my friend.

Snark aside, I think it might actually work with the new set of coaches. If it's ever going to work, it'll be now.

Haha, I thought of that when I posted it but just went with it. But we do have tons of new, great recruiting coaches that can spin this, maybe not in quite as desperate of language as UVA might use, but in some fashion. If anyone could find recruit reactions to the game and post them, I'd be interested to see what they said.

That is what UVa says to recruit players dawg.....I had to reply to this so I could work in the word dawg to one of the threads today (sorry, not sorry)

Exit Light, Enter Night....Go Hokies

1) What the hell did Frank eat for breakfast? 4th and 11? Fuck it let's go. Frank didn't play field position.
2) Logan said after the bye his arm felt live again. I never said it, but I didn't like the sound of it. Live = overthrow every receiver like the beginning of the season.
3) Lefty's game plan frankly sucked, and he didn't adjust during the game. I thought the power run game with Tray looked good at the beginning of the game. We should of pounded 14 up the middle until it stopped working.
4) Ke. Fuller had 3! And a loss... Gonna call a spade a spade. Offense wet the bed. Coaches and players.

But enough of the doom and gloom. Your neighborhood airplane bottle of bourbon is here to raise your sprits. Drink up my friends. You can feel the pain of the lose when you wake up tomorrow.

I totally forgot that we went hurry up with nothing but Trey Edmunds on that one drive and got first down after first down after first down. It seemed to work the whole time we did it. Why we stopped it and never went back, I'm not sure I'll ever know.

This is what frustrated me the most. As soon as we developed a rhythm with something that worked, we stopped it and struggled. Made no sense to me.

"Exit light..."

The running game was working. And we stopped doing it. Logan sucked, but I'm looking at Scot.

If I divide up the blame in my mind here, I go:

Logan: 20%
Cody: 40%
Loeffler: 40%

"Exit light..."

Yeah. I am about as big of a Cody hater as they come, but he didn't stop us from getting in the endzone. And you're not going to even give Frank 5% for all the 4th downs?

Given that we converted 4/6, and since Frank must know that Cody is struggling, I agreed with the 4th down calls. Not the play calls, mind you, but the fact that they were going for it. The end-around that got blown up was stupid, but that's on Loeffler.

"Exit light..."

when he started going for more fourth downs, that is when I started to wonder about Journell's health...still not sure what is going on.

It's not health that's the problem, it's inconsistency.

I'm reasonably forgiving of most Of the 4th downs, lights out defense, 0 faith in your kicker, and close enough that it doesn't make sense to go for a 25 yard punt...go for the 4th & 3. Maybe not the 4th & 11.

The 4th-and-11 was just a case of no-man's-land. On the 31, that's a 48-yard FG that Journell is not going to make. No point punting, it's going to be a touchback, a return by Crowder who is very dangerous, or you risk getting it blocked, in which case Duke gets better field position than the 31. Hindsight is 20/20, but Duke didn't get anything out of the resulting drive, so it wasn't really a mistake.

"Exit light..."

Good eyes. I think most of our early 4th downs were in the same space.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

The officials didn't give us much to work with either. Those two phantom block in the back calls on the same play... If we start that drive at the 31 and move the ball the same amt of yardage, Journell os kicking a field goal from extra point distance.

Something that the announcer pointed out frustrated me a lot (not just because the announcer didn't do any homework and continued to call him Anthony Exhume, but I digress):

We had a 3rd or 4th and 1 at a point, and Logan gets into the huddle and looks at his armband. We tried to run off right tackle and got stuffed. The color commentator said, "Why aren't you just sneaking the QB? He's [some variation of 6'6", 240, 250, or 270 lbs]." He also noted that when Logan gets into the huddle and doesn't look at the armband, it's a sneak.

I feel frustrated every time we don't sneak Logan on a short down. We did it on the goal line, once, too, right before the DJ Coles completion was called back for, I think, DJ Coles. I'm certainly not a football genius, but when we get into these short yardage situations, especially at the goal line, I feel like it should be an easy call. Logan sneak. But we don't. I don't get it. It seems so obvious, but, again, I'm not an OC.

Because if it seems obvious to us, it's obviously obvious to the opposing defenses... I was frustrated at the announcer saying that bit about sneaking it because if you do it on every short down and distance, everyone is going to stack the box against it and stuff it like they did last year time and time again. I feel like maybe we could incorporate a play-action sneak where LT takes a step toward the line and does something similar to the Tebow jump-pass.

But Im sure defenses know that if he looks at his armband its not a sneak, and if he doesnt it is... so surprise advantage negated

We need to incorporate the fake fake sneak! Look at the armband and then QB sneak. But in all seriousness, did opposing players notice Logan looking or not looking at his wristband? I know the commentators pointed it out on TV but with everything going on on the field, I'd be surprised for a defensive player to notice.

Part of the problem is that Logan doesn't seem to take enough snaps from under center for it not to be obvious what is coming.

Great point..we should be kicking extra points and not FGs.

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

I....I cannot condone this. Logan, your defense did what takes. Your special teams did a decent job (save Journell's fuckery). YOU lost this game. You single-handedly lost this game. You haven't had a cleaner pocket in your time at tech. You haven't had an easier chance to not fuck it up. And still, you did. You did fuck it up.

And another thing, why the fuck did we wear the carrot stick unis? They were cursed from the get-go. The last time we wore those curses, we lost to the fighting Cav-men. NEVER AGAIN. Never again. Kill those unis with fire and blood.

Fuck. And fuck.

Goodnight Blacksburg. Goodnight and never forget this feeling. Never.

"You know when the Hokies say 'We are Virginia Tech' they're going to mean it."- Lee Corso

Deep breaths. Deep breaths. In. Out. In. Out.

Good? Ok. Logan laid an egg. There's no other way to put it. But I'm putting some blame on play calling (see above). Calling for Logan's head wouldn't have won the game.

I think the issue most have, is how many eggs can we allow Logan to lay? And only one or two is not a realistic count.

Agree. I'm not trying to start up the Tomas vs Leal thing. My only point is there is blame beyond the QB play.

We can't debate that. Coaches pick the players to play. But when a kid lays an egg, we can point it out. I just think he lacks consistency. I think he is slow in process and decisions. Makes me wonder about Leal if the coaches don't put him in.

Though, could be practice versus gameplay issue. Ie playing difference. Some kids excel in pressure situations.

I agree, but some it should also be on Cody Journell. His two misses could have been the margin of victory.

Yes. I think we all agree. I'm simply trying to preach patience and that no one person/coach is to blame. They all are, but let's not start calling for anyone's head after a loss.

Agreed, we're all frustrated today, but this is a game. Hell, I went to my first one as a 4 year old in '86 and we got smoked by whoever, don't even remember, but it was the most amazing experience of my 4 years and I would have sworn on the spot that I would be a Hokie forever. We've been spoiled to have reason to have such lofty expectations. I'm not saying we lower our expectations, but I'm going to wake up tomorrow and be just as happy to throw on orange and maroon. More maroon than orange though.

more maroon than orange though

Haha, good one. I don't think I have one orange VT shirt

My girlfriend got me a mostly orange polo from a thrift store. She didn't know better, I'm still teaching her. Actually I have a few orange tshirts, I like it on its own, Michaelangelo was always my favorite turtle and whathaveyou, but maroon on the football field please.

Logan laid an egg, sure, but as I see it, Cody missed 2 field goals, that were more than makable. Last time I checked we lost by 3. LT throwing 4 picks was negated by Duke doing the same thing. It comes down to Cody just as much LT. Ultimately this rests on the team...Too many missed opportunities to win this game.

Next season I hope Trey Edmunds moves to linebacker. Did you see the hit he put on the Duke defender after the interception on the Hokie's last drive. Though they needed him there this year, he's not a natural running back. Also looking forward to upgrades at quarterback and field goal kicker. I think Logan would have been better developed as a Tight End.

I agree with you but not on the Edmunds front. Logan probably would've been a better TE. I always think back to the Wake game where he caught the fade route one handed from Tyrod. I'm not saying he isn't a good QB, he's " serviceable," but as you said about Trey, Logan to QB was about depth. I think Ford coming in and possibly starting as a T-FR will pay dividends in the long run.

You think Ford can beat out Motley? He looked really good in the spring.

Key word is "possibly." I feel like there will be one heckuva QB competition next spring.

I'm glad someone else remembers that LT catch. That was one of the most awesome play calls/executions I've ever witnessed in person.

forgot he was in serious contention for that until I saw that hit.

It was a brutal hit. Loved to see it. But it was a little too little a little too late. I thought he might have gotten called for...something...when it happened. Stanford got rocked after the first pick, too.

i said this earlier in the post but cody is hiding in franks pocket and protected it appears. logan fucked up bad, but so did cody. he shouldn't get a pass with all his off field issues as well. his misses almost cost us the ecu game and today it cost us the game. the offense drove the ball into makable fieldgoal territory and he missed

tyrod did it mikey! tyrod did it!

Worst game ever for Logan; 70% on him and all his bad decisions. Hardly ever looked deep to keep the defense honest, so they jumped all the underneath stuff. Inexcusable for him to play this bad coming out of bye week mid-season.
The other 30% was the special teams, which was outplayed by Dook. 1-3 on makeable field goals, while Dook was 2-2 on unmakable ones. I knew the poor kicking game would catch up to them. Beamer got out-Beamered today.

Smh, at least UVA can score points! Wtf?! Bring back Billy Hite to train the RB's. Fuck I would even love for LANE KIFFIN to come to our school.

We'd for sure have better recruits...oh god! I forgot about the recruits who were visiting today! Oh no....

Go home, man. You're drunk.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

You know, I'm incredibly pissed off at how Logan played. Everyone else has stated his faults already. Same with Cody. But the one guy that I don't think anyone mentioned yet is DJ Coles. How freaking hard is it to get set before a play? You'd think after the debacle against Alabama he would have learned that he should try to get lined up quicker. That was an easy touchdown and he blew it. Next play was a pick (an incredibly dumb decision by Logan). What a freaking joke.

Rip his freaking head off!

Coles had more than one lazy block that Davis taught him too.

Not to mention that DJ is a senior.

Lol, yep. You know? Pretty much all of our walk-ons are more solid than our scholarship players.

I'm going to blame the 330 start time

Rain doesn't bother us. Cold doesn't bother us. Snow doesn't bother us.

But those damn shadows, they'll get after ya.

"Exit light..."

3rd and 1 or less with a quarterback thats taller than yard.....running back power O play.... THAT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE what the hell, I thought Stiney didnt call plays anymore, this was awful on so many levels, say what you want logan supporters, and trust me I've supported him through thick and thin but he missed SO MANY READS he had open WRs deep at least 4 or 5 times, and threw it into triple coverage over the middle, he's hesitant to throw it deep now which I find highly ironic considering how well he throws deep, anyway our offense needs to take a big look in the mirror and decide RIGHT NOW who are we?

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

It's because he's made a living off of those 7- yard underneath throws with YAC from Byrn this season.

My biggest concern now is the inability for our new OC to adjust on the fly. Yes Logan did not help and quite frankly should have had another half dozen picks but why can we see the power run game was working and the coaches can't?

"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works every time!"

cause were a bad team...great defense...horrible offense horrible special teams....I gotta say first that this loss was not on Journell but I also have to say that I am done with that clown. He has been nothing but trouble for us and he isn't even any good. I dunno I am not in a good mood at all...pathetic, DUKE, I don't care how much the program has turned around its DUKE. We are probably going to lose the next two games...UGHHH

Plus 1000 for Jounell thoughts. He can't be gone fast enough

Im going to get negative votes on this but i agree with Vtrumpet, we sit and joke about UVA and how they lose in all but when we lose we do the same thing they do at the Sabre we tear down our own team as if we were never fans at all of VT. You can't be a fan of a team only when things are good, I've seen posts from some people saying they don't want to watch VT again and that's fine that is a opinion and i respect that, but you can't have ''one foot in the door while the other is out the door''. I truly understand that our fanbase is hurt after this loss, but we'll pick it back up next week. We have to enjoy the good times while they're good and come together when the times get tough. I don't want to see us calling for Loeffler's job when he's only been here for 8 games when he got here he was the most like person, because he was replacing Stiney and O'cain. We just have to give him sometime.

Go Hokies there will be brighter days I can honestly say that.

Maybe this lose will help weed out some bandwagon fans?

Actually the knock on that particular site has been how their fans are delusional and make excuses for their losses.

Now on this site, people are not happy because our 14th ranked team got put down by a below average team at home....they are the bandwagon fans? Stop making excuses and realize that we arn't very good

My first Virginia Tech game that I remember watching was when I was 4 years old. If you've ever watched football with a 4 year old, you know they're selfish little douches who root for whoever is winning because they want to have the rush of winning. The people I was watching it with though, they rooted for this team even when they were down an insurmountable amount. Do you know the fuck what? I wanted to be a part of that. I wanted to root for the team in my hometown no matter what the fuck was happening. People loved them. I came to love them. Every heartbreaking game has been followed by tears, and then hopes of a better game. I fucking love this team. I love the players. I love the coaches. I don't fucking care what the scoreboard says, I'll still be there till the very end. I want them to win, that's the fucking point of me rooting for them. But if you stop rooting for them because they're not winning you never really rooted for them in the first place.

Does anyone want to talk about the BCS game we will play in if we keep winning? I regret jumping on that bandwagon and not focuses on Duke but I had a bad feeling about this game..

The only offense we have had is the short passing game. Well, Duke took that away and and we all saw the result. Now what? The blueprint for victory has been published to the teams remaining with better talent.

Well this :

Fortune Favors the Bold

Journal is an easy target based upon his struggles this year and the off field issues, but the past few years he was solid. And let's face it, he has to perform EVERY time he's on the field; no chance to get a rhythm like the rest of the team. That's his job and I'm sure he gets it. Truly frustrated by his results but I'm sure not more than him. Logan, on the other hand, does have the chance to find a rhythm, and just can't seem to make most of it. Sure, he has grit, will, etc. But he's not the QB we need, ironically despite his records. He's not alone in terms of disappointing play, but since he touches the ball more than anyone, he gets the glory and the blame.

ChicagoHokie

true, but Journell also has a much more limited skill set. He ONLY does place kicking. Doesnt punt, doesnt do kick offs, and doesnt have to read defenses or know plays like the rest of the players on offense. And its not like we are talking about 1 or 2 missed kicks over the course of the year here. He was pretty clutch (at least <40 yds in) last year, and is extremely inconsistent this year

Just for funsies, I'm gonna point out that yes, he kicked off to open the game.
