Welp...

A loss like this makes my football watching night not happen. And if I do watch it, it's torture because all ESPN is going to do is play the upset highlights on loop and point their fingers and say "See? We told you VT didn't belong in the national conversation. Well, except for maybe to talk about their defense."

Oh, and if I hear that Beamer gave his coachspeak " gotta give them credit" line, I might take out my own eyeball. Duke did not play well in that game, despite what Frank will say. They gave the ball to us four times. What did we do with it? Don't give them credit Frank. Credit your offense for gifting the win to the Dookies.

If this team is who I think they are, they shake off the sorrow and rally. UNC beat BC decisively today. There's a lot of football left to play. Can't mope for too long.

Yeah that automatically means we should beat BC right! I fully expect BC to be another gut wrencher to watch because they play good D but their O is as bad as ours! Will have the appeal of watching midget wrestling!

I agree, next week is a completely different ballgame. Gotta learn from what we did wrong and work on it. I'd rather lose to Duke and then turn around and beat Miami on the road. This team can do it if we move forward. I have faith.

Yeah, pretty much the only positive is that we ( hopefully) won't sleep walk through the BC game now.

We had better not Clemson this thing up.

Umm... 60 minutes too late?

Not by the real definition of Clemsoning. It's not losing one game that you shouldn't, it's letting it spiral out of control. Today wasn't pulling a Clemson.

I love this post, you pegged my frustrations with that line.

I'll get a solid amount of down votes here. It's time for Beamer to call it a career. I appreciate everything he's done for us, probably to a fault. There is absolutely no reason for what happened today. Time for a reboot

Sorry, I don't agree. If you had no kicker, would you keep putting him in or go for it on 4th down?

This year was a rebuilding. Offense still needs to continue building up. Can't be calling for Beamers head here. The team did well overall, take away some poor decisions and bad kicks and we win this.

I definitely agree.. Let us not forget this is supposed to be a rebuilding year and is already a heckuva lot better than last year--I am personally spoiled by how good this team has been and so this sucks more.

Really a down vote? And why down votes for vt andy? It's an opinion. You down vote for non constructive bs, or inappropriate posts. This is getting rediculous.

And this is why I avoided coming on this site all day saturday and all day today. Kind of like the guy sitting behind me saying we were going to lose to Duke when there was still 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter. Yes, we ended up losing, but don't be a sourpuss when there is still that much time left. And don't downvote for opinions. Redonkulous.

Ugh, a down vote for stating what down votes are supposed to be used for?

It should show who down voted. That would make things interesting.

Playing devil's advocate:

Beamer always says that if he has a good quarterback and a good kicker, he's ready for the season.

So what does that mean now?

It was obviously a bad loss. But I don't think you've thought that one through. We have absolutely no clue how good of a HC Bud would be. And if we get anyone other than Bud then he's gone. Way too many unknowns if Beamer leaves.

Rip his freaking head off!

I tend to believe that a lot of the recruits we're getting are not just a product of the new coaches bringing some energy, but the legend of Beamer and Foster. Come play for legends. If he goes, who among the recruits bolts? Continue to reload under the proud tradition that Beamer built. What we're seeing now is the product of a few down years of incoherent recruiting. We have talent, but it doesn't necessarily mesh well.

Kendall fuller though.

Can't get rid of Beamer after one close loss. They should have fired him after the JMU debacle with this logic, and they won 10 games that year. This can still be a 10-win season if they can get it together on offense and get a few more kicks through the uprights.
By the way, defense was lights out again with two starters in the secondary out. Dook was held to under 200yds, had 4 INTs and 0-11 on third downs. So there is that.

I wasn't saying to get rid of Beamer.

Agree but the fact that we did jack shit w those 4 ints is really sad.

You say sad, I say "exactly what we've come to expect" after years of the Stiney & Newsome clownshow.

Feel bad for Logan. His lack of good coaching until Lefty showed up isn't his fault. I'm sure he's playing to the best of his current ability, and that he could be a great project QB in the pros.

But he just doesn't have the automatics that a 5th year qb should have.

Going through progressions.
Hot reads.
Touch (vs the heater).

Etc...

These things had all improved dramatically before today. Big step back today.

Just looking forward to the future, and looking forward to watching our D against anyone, no matter where they are ranked.

But I'm getting to the point I only want to watch our Offense through beer goggles.

Even my bourbon goggles didn't work today. Turned into yelling and throwing shit at the tv.

"They've done studies you know, 60% of the time it works every time!"

I know he is our QB, and the best option. But maybe all this is happening because he really isn't a QB?

He is a great athlete, don't get me wrong. But I'm not sure he is mentally there. I also think this may be partially why Bucky won't be a QB down the road, based on what everyone says about his development. You want these athletes on the field, but you want them in the right spot.

Next couple of seasons will be interesting.

Did Logan get confused that he was actually supposed to be playing football after 330? He is so used to the games being over at that point that maybe he forgot that even when its not a noon kickoff the games still count.
