Yup. Counts toward record but not toward a bowl.
We get two chances at that one victory! I kid I kid, but seriously... You can read a whole 26 page pdf about bowl eligibility that the NCAA had time to put together instead of ruling on the Nolley situation.

Yes only 1 and only if the FCS team has awarded at least 90% of the scholarships that FCS rules allowed it to award over the last two years.
The 90% thing really doesnt matter, FSU got away with it last year. The issue is that the schools don't review the scholarship allotment until after the season, but bowl invitations have been accepted but the time the data is known. So why it's in the rules, it's very hard to enforce.

URI football had their first winning season in the last decade this past year. They were also UCONN's only win of the year, losing 56-49 in an epic matchup.

I thought they announced the price was going up $25 when they announced they were adding a seventh home game and you would get a $25 concessions voucher for each season ticket.
It is my understanding season tickets were going to be 375. They were upped to last year's price of 400 which had a better home schedule.

We should also talk about how as the season progressed I started testing how many unopened beers I could get into the stadium. The UVA game I got in 9 and didn't even scan my ticket. I just walked through the open freight gate in South East. Even the event staff DNGAF
Nobody was giving a crap by that point. We are just going to have to start tailgating extra early next year. I see a overabundance of nooners next year with this schedule.
If there was ever a year that I would not buy a ticket and just watch all the games in the lot, it would be next year. Probably could save a ton of money picking one up the day of. There will be an abundance of extra tickets.
Season ticket sales are going to be SO bad next year. If we crack 60k in any game next year, I will be shocked. Not the tickets sold number, I mean actual butts in seats number.

Question, Home schedule was already crap before, but now you get an extra game. Shouldn't that make the situation better?
Exceptionally difficult to do so 8-9 months out. As I said before, this isn't basketball -- schedules are set years in advance in football and we were forewarned that it would likely be an FCS team. The only question now is if ECU bails on the home half of the contract. If they don't, we know we're playing ECU at home in 2020. If so, hope it's soon or we could be in the same situation next year.
I fully expect ECU to bail at the last possible moment to put us in the worst situation for scheduling a replacement.
Just got to remember that puts themselves in the same situation.

I think the firing of McNeal and the handling of this past season shows that the ECU athletic leadership has a hard time looking long-term and seeing the bigger picture in any given situation. I have little faith they won't cut off their nose to spite their face in 2020. And their fanbase will cheer it on because of a $100k check from 2007.

There is no FCS team on the 2020 schedule so it would work.

I think the answer to that question is a very obvious yes.
Yes. We aren't going to ecu for 2019. I just dont think we get better as a team by playing cupcakes. If this is the only alternative, then fine. But just because we got into a pissing match over the hurricane game, we are now stuck with this. Ecu is a better opponent., whether the consensus on this site is against the game or not.
ECU is the better opponent next year. That doesn't mean we stick into that contract because of that. We got out of the contract and are going to take a hit on SOS for this year because of it.
Dude, chill. Re-read that entire article and forum thread. We were told at the time that the rescheduled game would likely be a lower division opponent. Unlike basketball, football games are generally scheduled years in advance so trying to find a new opponent 8-9 months out is an exceptionally tricky prospect. It happened to FSU a few years ago after the ACC backed off on the 9-game conference schedule for an 8-game one. FSU had to scramble to find an opponent and ended up playing two FCS teams that year.
Let's work on beating these not great teams and then revisit this whole "good team and lose" prospect.

It just goes to show how much of a bumbling idiot Swofford is. First and foremost, the ACCN is literally ten years late. Secondly, the ACC is leaving major money on the table and potential network/tv contract leverage by not finding some way to get its best name brand teams playing each other more often. It's a complete and utter travesty.
Swofford is just punishing VT for rolling up in here, kicking ass and taking names, as soon as we got our conference membership card in the mail. We were supposed to be the whipping boys brought in to steal our membership money and round out the numbers.
So to add to this the rumor is Tech will play AT BC to start the season. Today is was confirmed Furman was moved off the opening date to clear it for an ACC team.

Not trying to shoot the messenger here, but uh, we play ODU at home on September 7th, 2019. So exactly how does moving Furman from September 14th to September 21st free up the"opener to be an ACC match-up" ? We already have an open date on August 31st / Labor Day Weekend which is the true opening weekend to the season, and the 14th is not an opener in any sense of the word.
Are we seriously considering a bye week after 2 games (8/31 and 9/7) on 9/14?

I'm cool with it. An opponent we haven't seen, at least in a while not sure when/if we played them last. And it's definitely just a placeholder to replace ECU. Great move.
Great to dump ECU, but Furman, ODU and Rhode Island out of conference confirms we are a hoops and bass fishing school.
I'm hoping this is /s because the ODU and Furman games were scheduled years ago. The only reason we're playing Rhode Island is because of what I pointed out above -- Babcock said when it was announced we were dropping the road games vs ECU that this year we'd likely be replacing them with an FCS team. Just like FSU had to pick up two FCS teams back in 2012 when they played both Murray State and Savannah State because of losing WVU due to their moving to the Big 12.
I did make a mistake in thinking it was 2013 when that happened, because originally the ACC was going to move to a 9-game schedule then the agreement with Notre Dame happened.
I'm not even kidding, our best hope right now to win a Natty in any sport is to open the checkbook for Buzz this year and try to make him an offer he can't refuse.
Buzzketball is on the verge of making us a hell of a lot of money during the winters. We need to capitalize while we can.

At Tech's recommendation, I'm taking some of my core curriculum classes at New River so I still have to pay them as well (once I take their placement tests x.x ) but it's a start toward something better in the end! :)
Placement Test is a piece of cake don't sweat that part. There are prep materials, that are worth a look. But that check to NRCC is going to be a whole lot smaller than the one to VT. That's a really smart move on your part.

We're light years away from football success. We're knocking on the door in MBB if we can keep the talent coming and keep Buzz as captain of the ship.
I'm a football first guy, but I want VT to win something for once.
Why do people think Buzz is leaving VT???
He's signed thru 2023, just inking the extension this past August. He's #19 on the list for this year, and that number is increasing in the subsequent years.
This. No reason to think Buzz is going to leave, and honestly, not really any reason to think VT isn't willing to pay him like one of the best coaches in the country either. It would be a tremendous oversight to invest in the training facility, a high end coach, and eventual Cassel renovations only to lose all the gained momentum by not doing whatever is in your power to keep Buzz for the long haul.
The thing is, there's basically no buyout. If another team wants Buzz, they can come in and poach him and leave us completely and utterly high and dry. There is no penalty for bailing on us.
Now, I don't think he will do that, and I don't think he'll get anywhere near the kind of sweetheart deal he has here (which in its own right could be a major incentive to stay. The flexibility of being able to leave might make our job not suffocating as all, actually making it desirable in its own way) so if he was going to leave, it'll have to be for the absolute perfect spot.
Then again, Texas did just announce a $300m renovation of their arena, it would move Buzz closer to his family, and they have deeper pockets than we ever could. They're not ACC, though. If we get announce a state of the art renovation for Cassell and ensure Buzz is one of the best compensated coaches in the sport, there might not be many better opportunities for him outside of, say Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, and UNC.
I don't "think" that he's leaving and I cannot speak for others if they do. But, as Alum stated his buyout is very manageable for a top program if they wanted to poach him and technically speaking he has done what he came here to accomplish: building a nationally competitive program from basically nothing. What he's done here in BBurg in the ACC is one hell of an audition for the big boys if the right spot opens.
I think the point is that we'd all like to see us do what is needed (if we can) to keep him here and make a run at a Natty soon.

Texas is one of the schools that keeps popping up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they hire Shaka to do the same thing we hired Buzz to do? And he's in the process now as well...
And if he came to VT to build a program, why leave it when it's at it's peak to go build another program? Enjoy the success. We are ranked 7th in the country. Why drop that to go to a team that is 50-50 (literally) the past 3 seasons?
Just saying support Buzz hear. Don't give him reason to leave. Embrace him. Cheer him. Give him a follow on Twitter. This is Home! Make him feel a part of that and he won't leave.
The difference between Shaka and Buzz is that Shaka built up VCU from the ground up in the CAA and Buzz built VT from the ground up in the ACC. One is a much more significant accomplishment than the other, even with VCU having that Final Four run. Building a legitimate power in the ACC gives you serious clout in basketball circles that you really don't get anywhere else. It would be in Texas' best interests to throw every resource they can into hiring Buzz away from us this offseason. If he can build VT up in the ACC, he can build anyone up anywhere.
Which is why we need to do whatever we can to keep him here this year.

I for one am excited. I did part of my undergrad work at URI. I took summer courses for transfer credit when I went home for summer.
While URI had their best football season in a decade last year, they are still a bad team. This should be a great opportunity for our second and third string to play and gain practical experience. We should win something like 63-10.
Somebody better be scouting Rhode Island's backup QB right now.
