Logan had time to throw. He had open receivers. Time to face the facts....Logan. Is. Terrible.
At this point I would support Leal starting the remaining games so he can get some game experience.

Duke played their worse football of the year...and beat us at home.
Think about that
false.
True by 3 HUGE reasons.
1.) 0 3rd down conversions for Duke the ENTIRE GAME.
2.) 0 Completions in the 2nd half.
3.) Held Duke to 198 yards on the game and 4TO's
Our Defense did their job and forced Duke to play their worst game of the year. The offense had 2 WEEKS to prepare for Duke's lackluster defense and pooped an egg.
Sean Glennon never lost to Duke....
Ok. People need to calm down. Logan was terrible today, but when you're 6-2 with a huge game against Miami coming up you don't bench your quarterback. He had 3 really good games before this and then a bad one today. Everyone needs to calm down. Am I pissed off? Absolutely. But you're stuck in the moment. In 4 days when this feeling of disgust is gone you'll have a completely different tune.
I know I'm still looking forward to "Foe"rensics this week, as always.
Logan struggled because he is a great tight end playing QB. I think he is a great kid who did what the coach's asked of him and moved to a position that requires "football thinking" and he has a God given great talent that will hopefully get him to the NFL where real coaches can work with him at the correct position, wherever that might be. But right now, he is not a "thinking" QB, not only with reading routes, but also knowing when to throw it hard and when to have touch. I think he did much better in the previous games because he had no choice but to put touch on it and think quickly because he was banged up. I remember him saying his arm after the bye week was "live" again... I thought, great here we go again...
Thought the same thing with the comment about his arm being live again. He'll be better next week, of that I'm 100% confident
People need to stop with this NFL talk. Training camp invite at best.
If your favorite NFL team were (hypothetically) QB'ed by Blaine Gabbert, how high would you draft LT? History is not kind on college QB's with poor accuracy working out in the pros. More worrisome to me is the total lack of development in scanning the field and working through progressions. Almost every time it's: stare down primary and then scramble or launch it regardless of the coverage.
...at this point we need to support the coaches, the team, and each other.
VT fans literally pushed a good recruit away (Mike Glennon) after booing his brother off the field several times. Who knows how good Mike would have been if he came here and had a tight end LT to throw to like everyone seems to want him to be.
I am damn proud to be a Hokie, and it make me so upset when everyone hates on players and coaches like they do. This is a team sport, and today they dropped the ball. Do you seriously think the players don't know that? Do you think they were laughing after the game? Do you think that LT sits at home thinking he just played a good game?
We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.
I'm actually glad that the next two games are away. Imagine if people really are down on the team to the point of booing or just not showing up. That would be ugly. Let today be a learning experience for the coming weeks. Good effort and preparation will pay off, and hopefully there will be a great crowd for the Maryland game with a VT team that has another win or two on its record. We played like crap today, but that doesn't mean we will play like crap again.
Could not agree more on being glad the next two games are away. The last two home games I've had people behind me that would chant criminal whenever Cody came on to kick and then against Duke, people were giving up and talking about leaving early basically at halftime. I sit in a section that isn't all that far from the VT bench and other sports including Basketball have their recruits in or near that section. Do you really want those types of fans being the ones the recruits see and hear? I know I don't and I can't stand when people act that way towards 'their' team. If you don't like the team, don't show up or pick another team to root for.
I agree with supporting the team, and each other... and you are correct, even the coaches. You are also correct, who knows what Mike Glennon might have been at Tech. On the other hand, I don't think "everyone" wants LT to be a tight end, it is actually what he wanted and what he was recruited for. I pull for LT as a QB all day long, he is doing what, united, the coach's, the team and himself bought in as the best move. At the end of the day we are 6-2 bowl eligible at this point in the year, which is a heck of a lot better than last year.
I think everyone is a little uneasy about losing tonight, but something positive must come out of this from the team/coaching side moving forward. Go hokies!
I was being bitter when I said that. I know what LT was recruited for, and I know what the coaches asked him to be, I just get frustrated with all this bench logan nonsense. Let's support the team and let the coaches coach.
Completely Agree!!! I am a huge LT fan, the kid wants to win, plain and simple! Look out BC...
I agree.
Diagnosis and adjustment is one thing, bad mouthing is quite another.
I'm going to rewatch the game as I was there and missed some stuff and probably misremembering some others.
What I do know is we had a couple decent drives, we got 380+ yards and have a heck of a D.
There were some big errors that cost is the game but, there were a lot of things that went right.
Next time, we need to get Sam Rogers the ball.
And make him mad so he shows the other team his teeth.
On that note, I had other guys in my section cheering when we saw Sam come in the game and people asking for his number so they can watch for him at the away games.
We have 1/2 a NC team. Let's keep the guys encouraged so they can learn and get ready for the ACCCG.
We do not have half of a NC team.
Bad offense
Bad running game
Bad receivers
Bad place kicking
Bad returns
Great defense
Still unfortunately not 1/2 a NC team
Well if you break it down like that, here is the other side:
Great defensive backs
Great defensive line
Good Linebackers
Great Punter
You can't dissect the offense and not the defense.
You just dissected less than half of the team.
Analyze it how you want. Teams like Baylor have more credibility than us these days... Baylor!!
Having half a great team and half a bad team means you are not that good of a team.
He was responding to your dissection, where you counted parts of the offense and the overall offense separately. You double-counted the badness. Put the two posts together and it's pretty accurate.
I think I dissected half the special teams (p, k) and the defense. All I am saying is you can't say we have a bad offense and half bad/decent special teams but then just list great defense. It could also be summed up:
Bad Offense
Great Defense
Average Special Teams.
That looks like half of a NC team to me. Why is it offensive that Baylor is good? It happens...teams get better, teams get worse.
If you are going that route, how can you claim average special teams.
Terrible FG
Great punting
Terrible return game
The point is, in today's game, you can't be "half a team". aTm is one, and guess what...their most relevant season in a decade has already come and gone. Having a terrible offense now means you are not a good team, or half a NC team
Great punt block schemes, no mistakes like we had against alabama...look, I am just saying that this is really half a team---or actually a little more than that. Our defense is one of the best in the nation, our special teams is average and our offense is bad, but they are not the worst. If we had the nations 50th ranked offense, like Duke does, this team would have had no trouble yesterday. They are more than half a team. We can dissect and analyze any way we want, but it is a huge discredit to the coaches and the team. They laid an egg today, but the sign of a truly 'good' team is how they respond next week.
Things change dude. Baylor is a legit program. Use them all you want as an example of a team that should be less credible than us. I know I would prefer for us to be winning more games. That's what I would always prefer. But on the otherhand, we've been bowl eligible for 21 straight years. I would way rather have a successful season every year than have a few good seasons and then burn out.
Baylor should have more credibility than us; they're good.
I assume this credibility you mention comes from the football polls. It should, as it's a measure of how good you are this year. If you want to measure over a longer span, I've seen a few analysis that puts VT between #10-#15 over a 5 year span as a program. Not bad, and maybe a little ahead of where I would rank us.
Now the polls aren't perfect, and there are teams that will benefit from them by about 10-15 spots, usually based on conference bias. Miami anyone?
But don't put down Baylor; they're a good team with good recruits and a good system, and probably the best in Texas.
THIS MAN/WOMAN/HYPERINTELLIGENT-SHADE-OF-BLUE SPEAKS NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH
For me, the glass is half full.
For you, the glass is 2/3 empty.
Revel in what goes right and correct what doesn't. It's the only way to win.
Really? A down vote for that?
Seems to be an epidemic. People are extra snarky after a loss. +1 because I like your sentiment; must have missed it in the cascade of posting yesterday.
Did you mention UVa!?
I agree you didn't deserve a down-vote. Don't worry TKP regulars got your back.
For me, it doesn't matter if the glass if half empty or half full. I'm getting another drink either way.
I like how you think. A "the glass will be filled again" perspective. Sounds like the most optimistic perspective possible.
He seems to have no feel to the game at times- I thought we were past the forced throws and the ball delivery issues but here we are with time to throw jamming the ball into coverage. Had Byrn running free down the seam, staring him down then delivers ball 2 seconds too late missing out on a huge play. Yeah we need play makers to help him but man is it frustrating
I'm so tired of hearing about how Logan is tight end playing QB. He has played QB for 5 years, he is a QB chill out
I don't solely blame Logan for the loss, i understand that he produced most of the yards. But people do have to recognize that 4 INTs is an absurd amount and you can't win doing that. Throwing it away and settling for a FG is better than forcing it and ending up with nothing. Only putting up 10 pts on Duke is indicative of a lot of offensive issues. And i still don't understand why we can't recruit a better kicker, clearly Duke can find one that can even hit 50+ yarders...
I was at the UCF-UCONN game today and even UCF has a kicker who drilled 3 in one game (37, 45, 50)
I think the UGA kicker booted one from 56 yards out last week against Vandy, too.
I agree--I just thought the 4th down play calling and offensive play was less than smart. I think beamer knew the defense would be good enough to help if they didn't get their fourth down conversions, but this is one of those games, in hind sight, would have been better played conservatively. Take 3 points when you can, punt the ball when you can't. I like some of the risk but not all of it. Gotta move on :/
When your offense is bad.. always take the points. Always. Fans might not like the call at the moment, but walking out of stadium with a 16-13 win feels a lot better than 13-10 loss.
People need to chill out. First off, it's ONE GAME. Even the best of teams come out flat and get upset one week. Secondly, quit calling for Leal - it's not going to happen, so there's no point in arguing about it. You can be mad all you want, but accept the fact that Leal isn't going to start. Thirdly, it's BC week - time to quit whining and support this team.
If you still feel bad, just think how much better we're off this year than last.
SPOILER ALERT: We're a lot better.
Sometimes we can be all Gloom and Despair. We're already going bowling, and there are plenty more games ahead we stand a good chance of winning this season.
Do we have another kicker worth two shyts? Cody isn't dependable this season..missed 4 FGs at ECU, nearly cost us the marshal game with a miss, and did in fact cost us the Duke game..if he makes the other two it's 16 13 HOKIES.
Keyserling was the kicker for Marshall because Journell was suspended. In an indirect way, then, we can blame the misses on him. Keyserling was 0-3 on the day.
This is why Brooks Abbott leaving kind of hurt. Keyserling and even Cody look great in practice, but kicking in a game is completely mental and right now neither have 'it.' Both look great in warm ups and I hope one of the two can put it all together and be the man for the rest of the year.
news flash: Logan Thomas NEVER PLAYED TIGHT END.
he's the best QB we have. That is a fact. Accept this.
