Will not let you go let me go (never)

Oh mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me

Counterpoints: 1) that song DID define a generation, 2) it captured the same teen angst as Bohemian Rhapsody, 3) it's a great song that still holds up, and 4) look what passes for music now.

Oh, I'm saying it was overrated. Nirvana is overrated. Cobain was a grunge elitist who tried to claim anyone outside his circle wasn't grunge, trying to save it all up for himself.
That song set a template for most of the radio rock that was to come. Talentless guitar players hammering three or four chords.
Mind you, i find myself enjoying the occasional nirvana song, but I'm not buying into the claimed greatness. Nirvana helped make the sound palatable to the masses, but they were far from the best of the lot.

I might agree that Nirvana wasn't the best of the bunch. Personally, I could go Soundgarden in a top-to-bottom comparison of their respective discographies. Pearl Jam is in the mix, but I'm A Nirvana-over-Pearl-Jam person. There are so many genres in that time period that delineating grunge from alternative from anything else is tough.
I also don't think you can measure how good anything is by how many chords are in a song.
And also note that I'm not saying Nirvana was great - though I think there is a solid argument to say they were - I am only commenting on the absolute greatness of that culture-changing, era-defining song.

If you're going to go with Metallica, it has to be One, doesn't it?
I can't remember anything
Can't tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me
Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up, I cannot see
That there is not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now
Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God, wake me

Don't cry, don't go
Won't lie, I fuckin' love you, whoa
Why y'all staring into the clouds
Am I rising or they comin' down?
I see death around the corner
And the U-turn sign's lookin' like a smile
What do I do now? Who gon' find me, how?
Nowhere to turn but around and round
Just another nigga who done lost his head
No, a fucking king that forgot his crown
I am not number one, it's true
I'm number 9-27-82
Color blind, even if I may be blue
A lot on my plate, ain't my favorite food
But I'm hungry, so hungry
Need my family tree next to a money tree
With a bunch of leaves in the Garden of Eden
With a bunch of Eves, no fruit punch for me
I sip from the fountain of youth
So if I die young, blame the juice
Bury me in New Orleans
Tombstone reads "Don't cry, stay tuned"
Bring me back to life
Got to lose a life just to have a life
But if heaven's as good as advertised
I want a triple extension on my motherfuckin' afterlife
Rest in paradise
Don't cry (don't cry, don't cry), don't go (why, oh why?)
Won't lie, I fuckin' love you
Don't cry (don't cry, don't cry, don't cry)
Don't go (why, oh why, oh why, oh why?)
Won't lie (don't cry, don't cry)
I fuckin' love you (don't cry, don't cry)
Talent is god-given, be grateful
Fame is not a given, be humble and
Conceit is self-driven, drive carefully
Stay in your own lane, seat buckled
And sometimes when there is no music
We toot our own horns, rum-bum-bum-bum
That woman carried the future
And Tunechi was born like "dun-dun-dun-dun"
Don't call it a comeback
It was dark, now the sun back
Hit me hard, but I punched back
The wheels fell off, I rode the hubcap
It's suicide or it's do or die
It's newer days and it's bluer skies
I told myself "It's just you and I"
Then the breeze came and it blew my mind
Lord knows who I'm there for
I'll give my last breath of air for
Mama tell me to be careful
Voice in my head give me an earful
But I got mind control over my control
I lost control but knew I'd find control
I let God control what I cannot control
Can't control the tears, let them drop and roll
Don't cry (don't cry, don't cry)
Don't go (why, oh why, oh why?)
Won't lie (don't cry), I fuckin' love you
(Triple extension on my motherfuckin' afterlife, rest in paradise)
Don't cry (don't cry, don't cry)
Don't go (why, oh why, oh why?)
Won't lie, I fuckin' love you (don't cry)
Don't cry, stay tuned

Every time we had a positive play come back for a penalty, this song runs through my head. Some of the most boneheaded fouls away from the play this year.

You are my fire
The one desire
Believe when I say
I want it that way
But we are two worlds apart
Can't reach to your heart
When you say
That I want it that way
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
Tell me why
I never want to hear you say
I want it that way
Am I your fire?
Your one desire
Yes I know it's too late
But I want it that way
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a heartache
Tell me why
Ain't nothin' but a mistake
Tell me why
I never want to hear you say
I want it that way
Now I can see that we've fallen apart
From the way that it used to be Yeah
No matter the distance
I want you to know
That deep down inside of me
You are my fire
The one desire
You are (you are you are you are)
Don't want to hear you say

You turned away when I looked you in the eye,
And hesitated when I asked if you were alright,
Seems like you're fighting for your life,
But why? Oh why?
Wide awake in the middle of your nightmare,
You saw it comin' but it hit you outta nowhere,
And there's always scars
When you fall that far
We lose our way,
We get back up again
It's never too late to get back up again,
One day you're gonna shine again,
You may be knocked down,
But not out forever,
You're rolled out at the dawning of the day
Heart racin' as you made you little getaway,
It feels like you've been runnin' all your life
But, why? Oh why?
So you've pulled away from the love that would've been there,
You start believin' that your situation's unfair
But there's always scars,
When you fall that far
We lose our way,
We get back up again
Never too late to get back up again,
One day, you're gonna shine again,
You may be knocked down but not out forever,
Lose our way, we get back up again,
So get up, get up
You gonna shine again
It's never too late, to get back up again
You may be knocked down, but not out forever,
May be knocked down, but not out forever!

Dare You To Move by Switchfoot (my personal theme song when I had to learn to walk again).
Welcome to the planet
Welcome to existence
Everyone's here
Everyone's here
Everybody's watching you now
Everybody waits for you now
What happens next?
What happens next?
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Welcome to the fallout
Welcome to resistance
The tension is here
The tension is here Between who you are and who you could be
Between how it is and how it should be
Yeah
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor
I dare you to move
I dare you to move
Like today never happened
Today never happened before
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here

Bohemian Rhapsody
Hot Take: Bohemian Rhapsody is most overrated song in modern music.
Nothing really matters, anyone can see
Nothing really matters
Nothing really matters...
...to me
Any way the wind blows...
Smells Like Teen Spirit would like a word.
Smells Like Teen Spirit is the greatest song released in my lifetime (1982+)
It's not the best song. It's not my favorite song. It's the GREATEST song.
Fight me
Don't look now, but you're making his point.
Counterpoints: 1) that song DID define a generation, 2) it captured the same teen angst as Bohemian Rhapsody, 3) it's a great song that still holds up, and 4) look what passes for music now.

Oh I thought he was saying that it was overrated. I thought I was disagreeing.
A denial.

Oh ok, then we are definitely disagreeing 100%.

[See what I did there]
The problem with most other songs is that there are too many notes
LOL. That's gonna be a leg from me, dawg, cause it's the right response.
However, most songs these days have 99 problems, and too many notes isn't one.
PLUSE spare us the lyrics!

Baby Shark
Of all the songs?!?!?!?!!!! Srsly?!????!
Edit: only because my kids have played this song infinitely too many times π
funny when i first heard it, played out soon after, lingered around for too long, stuck in my head and won't leave, haunting
We all know that this is where you really wanted to go, and why...

Yakkity Sax btw
Probably more descriptive if you throw in a video of Benny Hill and some other assorted characters running around.
"some other assorted characters running around"
How about our defense trying to tackle someone? Oh god...it actually fits too perfectly.
Literally the first thing that popped into my head when the thread appeared.
The classic and my favorite literal music video.
"Man In the Mirror" - Michael Jackson
"make a chaaaange"

They all sound the same and its literally all I hear when I think anything football.

i don't even think he knows what hes saying most of the time.

Lit - My Own Worst Enemy
I was going to add this one too.
Every time we had a positive play come back for a penalty, this song runs through my head. Some of the most boneheaded fouls away from the play this year.
Such a great cover, different perspectives between Trent Reznor when he first made the song and Johnny Cash that hits the feels.
