Crud still has me down and out and I dont expect that to change as today progresses. Lets do a Universal Club writeup, where you post any nuggets you have on this game that havent yet been added, including stats, personal stories on past WF games, and any current news or trends for either team. Been a hell of a week so far.
Thanks
Rob

I remember beating #1 Wake Forest on the road in 2009!
Edit: 2009 is TEN YEARS ago. Wow.
LET'S GOOOO
Not to be morbid, but I will always remember that game because on that same night, a girl was decapitated at ABP. I was crammed in my dorm room with a bunch of friends watching the game and our phones were going off every ten minutes with automated VT Alerts.
That entire situation was just weird. I could be wrong, but the next day ABP was open like nothing ever happened!
Also, how the hell was I a freshman a decade ago 😩
... how was I a senior 10 years ago?
How was fernley 55 ten years ago?
Ahhhhbb gooodddddd
55?! Wow, i just turned 41. I must read a lot older
If it makes you feel better, i just turned 44 and am still trying to figure where the time went.
I don't mind being 41 but jhalf is thinking I am 65 now. That's crazy talk I tell ya
Man I almost forgot about that. I was across the street in Hokie Grill when it happened and I remember thinking that it would blow up in the news especially since it was just a few years after the 16th. For whatever reason though it thankfully didn't gain much traction in the national news.
That Wake Forest team will get after ya
The game is at 4:00 on AACN. Be nice if 5 could find his groove.

ACC Stats:

Edited to correct starting stats. They get converted to dates when I download and I screwed up the translate back to stats.
Here are pictures and indvidual stats. Anyone who wants to add comments about individual players is welcome.
0 Brandon Childress 6'0" Junior Guard

10 Jaylon Hoard 6'8" Freshman Forward

23 Chaundree Brown 6'5" Sophomore Guard

35 Ikenna Smart 6'10" Redshirt Senior Forward

2 Sharone Wright, Jr. 6'5" Freshman Guard

4 Torry Johnson 6'3" Redshirt Senior Guard

1 Isaiah Mucius 6"8" Freshman Forward

30 Olivier Sarr 7'0" Sophomore Center

20 Michael Wynn 6'6" Freshman Guard

Childress, Hoard, and Brown can play. Everyone else is not really ACC caliber. Childress would be first team all acc on any other team, he'll probably be the best player on the floor today. Sarr (their center) will probably grab about a million offensive rebounds as I think he leads the ACC in o-rebounding percentage.
Don't know what to expect from Wake. They lost to Gardner Webb at home, but they beat a good NC State team a few days ago. No easy ACC games, but this is one that we have to win if we want to be a good team
FWIW, state may be overrated. I think their SOS is like 320 or something
This is not a team to overlook. They have not played well in many games; but they beat no 17 NC State at home their last time out. I think NC State did not take the game seriously enough and got too far behind to catch up after they woke up.
Wake is not a 3 Pt team. Although they shoot about 20 3's per game, they only make 5. However they are also holding ACC opponents to 31% from 3. If the Hokies can shoot well from 3, this game should be a snoozer. If we struggle from 3, their height could cause us real problems.
Wake has had 2 starters foul out in four games; Hoard against Miami and Brown against GT; and they have four players averaging nearly 3 fouls per game. Aggressive play by the Hokies could be a good thing in this game. As usual KJB needs to limit fouls; so he can stay on the court. Without him, we may have real problems rebounding.
85% day from 3 confirmed.
They played their best game of the season against NC State on Tuesday. I expect them to have a huge letdown after that game, especially on the road and in a good environment
Is this gonna be blacked out on the espn app again?
Regardless of where you live or what cable/streaming service you have (me= Arlington & SlingTV) I've watched every game via a stream from reddit.com/r/ncaaBBallStreams/, as all the games have been blacked out on ACCExtra for me.
They usually post about 15 mins before the game starts.
I'll check it out, thanks!
May be a little late for this game, but the HD stream from sports24.fun has worked for every game I've needed it this season
Glad to see us wrap up this win, we'd been in a bit of a rut with GT and UVA, glad to see us able to ease into a win today
Fyi for those in the northeast the game is on YES here in NJ.
In the Pittsburgh area, it's on ATT Sportsnet, which is channel 659 on Directv. May miss the beginning as they are showing Pitt-Syracuse now.
Why in the world are they just sitting on this 10 point game
Both teams fouling each other...
Game's already started, yet Watch ESPN still shows "Your Event is About to Begin." Come the hell on already
I imagine some of you North Carolinians who got stuck with Wake Forest/NC St. game over the VT/UVA game Tuesday know more about WF than I do.
Becoming increasingly annoying getting blacked out in the 757.
Also blacked out in Key friggin West.
Why?
Anyone know what channel is showing this game in roanoke/Blacksburg? Blacked out on ESPN and not on CW
NBC Sports Washington?
Go ACC/Raycom! They're showing Gt-Louisville in the 757 , with ESPN blacking VT out online just for good measure. Top notch planning there. I think it's the third game this season Raycom has stopped me from watching the Hokies in the 757.
Update for those of you not able to watch:
At 12:54 VT13 - WF13
VT D looking like it did against UVA. Bad rotation leading to open shots and bad fouls
Big fan of allowing the opposing teams. Let's see how it works out.
God damn our 3 pt defense is terrible
Damn, really need to tighten up on defense
Wake shooting 60% from 3 to stay in the game. They are getting wide open looks.
Do opposing teams shoot like 98% from three against us? /s
You left out the first word "How"
I think we know the how!!
I get that we don't have any size but I really wish we didn't double the post every single time
Stop doubling the post and just play solid D. Smh
I'm glad Robinson saw the ball go through but these past four games have been extremely sloppy from him. Hopefully he can get out of the slump.
This should be more alarming to people than what it is. Robinson hasn't had a "good game" by his standards at least since mid-December. I don't know if he's playing thru an injury, something off court on his mind, or just a run of the mill basketball funk, but some thing is off with him. He isn't having the same impact on games we saw last year and games earlier this year. We definitely need him to be at his peak if we want to go beyond the goal of just being a team that makes the Tournament. We've got enough talent if everyone plays their A game, but our margins are razor thin since we have no depth without Nolley and Clarke. If one guy is off, it's gonna be hard to stay at the top of the ACC when we play the better teams. It was nice seeing Bede having probably his best game of the year so maybe he can continue to step up, but still. It's best if 5 is at his best.
Technical fouls on dunks always amuse me.
Lol finally a T not on us
Fam! Have we seen Buzz this fired up yet this season?
Great final 10 to close out of half. 7 guys contributing, but only NAW in double figures. If 5 can get going and two others can step up and get into double figures I think we roll in the second half.
Wake has taken 20 free throws, while we have taken 6. Thats the difference in it being a 10 point game and a 15-20 point game.
I think we have seen the best Wake has. I expect them to fade in the second half. Tech should win going away.
Stats at the Half:
Hokies doing well from distance going 6-14 for 43% while holding the Deacs to 36%.
NAW leads all scorers with 12, followed by Hill and 5 with 7 each.
Hokies have 11 fouls, 2 each by Hill, Horne, KBJ, 5 and Outlaw, 1 by Wilkins, so it's not great that the 3 forwards have 2 fouls each.
hopefully blackshear won't do a stupid foul in the first minute of the 2nd half
I love how we've all accepted that our starting PG's name is just a number now.
Anyone know what happened to the third ref????
..../s
Hurt his knee. Tripped over one of the lines on the court.
hurt his knee (felt something pop) in the first minute or two of the game. said he couldn't continue.
The white ref is terrible.
checking in from the Emergency room. Things worse than ever. Yay fun times.
You should see a couple of officials there really soon. The two in Blacksburg are missing eyes and are in dire need of medical attention.
Edit: Also, I hope you get well really soon.
Love blackshear but man does he have about four super "clumsy hands" moments a game
Bede is putting in some solid minutes running the show with 5 out.
Agreed. After seeing Bede play extended minutes at PG I'm feeling a lot better about his future as starter there
Agree with you guys, to have that defense, shiftiness, and handles and we've seen bursts of scoring potential I think he'll step into the role just fine next year
Those refs were determined to get WF back in the game. Good job by the team (especially NAW) for keeping the gas pedal down to finish the game!
keys to victory...
more assists than turnovers... 15-11
over 70% from free throw line... 81.8%
42.3% from 3pt
56.9% FG
scored more points than opponent!
God I love watching this team pull away in the second half.
The one ref had a mad on for us for some reason. He was getting booed in Cassell, the other guy was at least fair.
Whelp, we won. And (most importantly) LOLUVA got Dook'd.
*sees UVA lost....but Dook won*
I think a reversed Alonzo Mourning gif will fit this statement a lot better
I think LOLUVA losing to Dook vs the alternative is the lesser of 2 evils.
