I thought they did a pretty good job of sizing up our strengths and weaknesses.
Even without Horne, we still match up better with UNC than most other ACC foes. They have two 6'10" players on the roster; but they only play a couple of minutes each per game. They have two 6'9" starters and the other three are 6'5", 6'8" and 6'4". If we can keep KJB on the floor, we should match up pretty well. They do however shoot lights out. Maye shoots 39%; the rest are over 45% from the field.
We just need to play to our strengths and their weaknesses. Louisville killed them playing fast.
Cam Johnson may score 30+ on whoever is guarding him.... But beyond that, I like the prospect of a good game if we are landing shots from deep.
Just here to say that Luke Maye definitely threads his eyebrows. Bothers me every time I watch them play.

-North Carolina is 6th in Division I in pace. As usual, Roy Williams likes to get his teams running up and down the floor.
-UNC is also 6th in the nation in rebound percentage. We're not going to have many second-chance opportunities if we miss shots.

Yes, the officials are trash but it's terrifying how quickly we lost composure. We haven't scored in 4 minutes because we haven't taken a good shot in 4 minutes.
We do need to settle down but when we are getting hammered outside the arc and then not getting the blocking fouls UNC is getting, it is tough when we try to create.
This is going to be an uphill battle with the officiating, but we need to play in control more. Their defense is speeding us too much on the offensive end.
With NAW and 5 on the bench, we don't have many guys who can create scoring chances. KJ has been cold on his turn arounds
Yeah we aren't getting in any rythm on offense without Robinson and NAW. Hill, Outlaw, and Wilkins can't create their own shot and Bede struggles as well. That means you have to get Blackshear a paint touch to open up the shooters or have Blackshear take it to the basket.

The best defender on the team. Hasnt looked good tonight but is usually smart with the ball and provides 6-8 points a game. As much as it sucks right now, glad he is getting to go through the gauntlet of ACC elite teams so he can learn to be better when 5 leaves.

Bede might not be playing a great (OK good) game, but the kid is in a difficult position. He is forced to play point with Wilkins and Outlaw on the floor together. Neither of those guys move with the offense and neither of those guys make good passes. Even if Jrob were in this situation, UNC would have gone on a run. Maybe not to the same extent, but still a run.

Well short answer, we started out as an agricultural land grant institution with an emphasis on technical skills and coursework for students, eventually it got shortened to "Virginia Tech", or "Vah tech" for short. We collapse on the post because of our lack of size which leaves shooters open for 3 on the kickout. At this level if you get guys that open that consistently they will torch you.
They are hitting contested 3s and deep threes behind screens. Those aren't all wide open shots. They are hitting long pull up jumpers too. It is incredible how shooting % goes up against us.
They're hitting now that they are in rhythm. Mentally they're in a practice now against our poor defensive play. They aren't even seeing our defenders because we haven't forced them to respect us.

I don't know why I am so surprised when the ACC officials have such obvious home cooking, especially at NC or Duke. Every time I think it might be different, I am disappointed. Just watched NAW get thrown to the ground at the officials feet and he just looked away. I feel bad for the kids playing. It's 5 on 8 and its impossible to beat that.

Well boys, I think with our depth cut in half this year, we're better in talent, but still the same team as last year. Probably could have been really special if the season kicked off like it was supposed to. With our depth cut in half and half the team leaving in the off season, I suspect we're the same team next year. Makes me think we've punted our progress two years down the road.
We need size. We have shooters for days but we need size to a desperate extent.

This season is a bit of an exception for Buzz in that area. We were supposed to have Clark and Nolley. Sy was looking to be back as well for a while. Just bad luck with that. The no bigs in any recruiting classes is more annoying IMO.
We won't be elite without a big man better than blackshear.
I'm a bit more worried about the future and will be until we have someone else over 6'7" on the roster or in the pipeline. Our future class has no one above 6'7" too.
With the ability for first and second year players to make as much as an impact as they do I think we'll be okay after growing pains next year.
To put it simply, I believe in buzzs ability to weather a storm like this more than Fuente. Maybe sometime soon they will allow 128 teams in the cfp.

In this draft? I'd say there's a 70 to 80% chance he's a 1st round pick and that might be a little conservative. This year's potential class is really top heavy with Zion and Barrett at the top but once you get past the first 3 to 5 picks, there's a big drop off. There's not a lot of depth. It's one of the weaker drafts in the last couple of years. A guy like NAW, who has blossomed this year, would be a safe 1st round pick imo, possibly even a lottery pick (1 thru 15)

Where we screwed up was taking the lead and playing well. The officials woke up and realized the upstart ACC team was schooling a blue blood so they started calling everything their way. Got the two best players to the bench with foul trouble, which allowed a 20-0 run. If that third foul on Robinson is called correctly this would be a very different game.
Never easy to play against the zebras at UNC but we still were very poor my expectations for this season get lower by the game

At some point you have to say it's not hot shooting, it's just a poor defensive scheme that doesn't work against high end competition. Buzz has said it himself that our defensive scheme (cover 2) allows for teams to shoot hot from the arc. I think the grind house of the ACC is going to take it's toll on the short rotation in the coming weeks.

Tough loss to watch. Blackshear deserves a medal for constantly competing against multiple bigs in the paint. Lack of size and lack of depth are very hard to overcome against top tier competition. Second chance points, and rotating D to protect the paint leaves the arc open. ACC road is tough, and an L is an L whether by 1 or 20. Hope we can bounce back and protect the Cassel.

When making a call against VT
It's disappointing getting blasted by two top teams in a week (this and UVA), but at least this one is a little more understandable. I was more upset at the total ass whooping UVA put on us in which we looked totally unprepared. This one, we were in it when Robinson and NAW were out there. They had to sit because of fouls (don't get me started) and UNC went on that huge run that we never made up for the rest of the game. You can talk other players stepping up, adjustments, whatever, but when like 85% of your offense is out on the bench, there's nothing you can do. We have no one that can get their own shot when both are sitting. It sucks, but its just reality.
I didn't get the opportunity to watch it, but I was watching the score early when we were up by 10 points. I got home later and saw the score and wondered what happened. Reminds me of our first year in the ACC when visiting UNC and Duke. I can't remember which one it was, but I remember our entire team sitting on at least 2 fouls each within 3 minutes of the start of the game, and 2 of the players sitting at 4 within the first 5 or 6 minutes.
They're the biggest bunch of homer refs and I'm not even sure how it stays that way.

This team is the definition of overrated.
This team is going to put it behind them and come out and throttle Syracuse. The shooting was good and is generally better at Cassell. I am calling 85-63 thrashing of Syracuse. We have been playing well against the 2-3 zone that Syracuse runs.

Heaven help you when your opponent has one or more rule working for them.
I dont think we get well with Syracuse. They are long, and they will throttle is into fouling out.
