The Ladies travel to Pittsburgh for a 7PM game. The game is on the Regional Sports Network and VT/IMG radio. If we don't win this one, we may not win an ACC game this year.
PItt is 9-12, 0-7 ACC. Losses at #2 Notre Dame(100-44), at #8 NC State(63-34) and their most recent game at Louisville(70-42). Comments:
PItt's best 3 pt shooter averages 40%; the team averages 29.7% from 3. Overall they only shoot 31.4% from the field. They have been outrebounded by an average of 10 rebounds per game. No one averages double digit scoring or double digit rebounds per game. Their leading scorer averages almost 4 fouls per game.
This is a team we should beat easily, if we can play a complete game. Or maybe we can get far enough ahead that Pitt can't catch up when we go cold in the fourth quarter. This would be a good game for several of our players to regain some confidence.

Glad no one's sugarcoating it. I fully expect us to dominate for 3 quarters and then call it a game only to see Pitt make a run and win in the waning seconds...
Does Brooks survive this year if he continues to lose in conference play?
I would give him another year. He's got some really good players coming in and some height to replace Magarity. We lose Emery, Magarity, Camp , Jean and Errin Brooks. The replacements should be a significant upgrade. And I expect Mabrey and Baptiste to continue to improve. If he could just convince the players he has to play a complete game, this would be a really good team. And next year should be better; but they will be young.
I really think it's more of a concentration thing. They get ahead and think they have it under control. They get lazy and the other team gets aggressive because they have nothing to lose at this point. Then they make a couple of bad passes and miss a couple of shots and then they start stressing. They just need to be ready for the last ditch flurry from the other team and not panic. They are good enough to beat every team we've played, except probably Notre Dame. They just need to realize that.
I want to believe, I really do, but I will wait and see if they actually hang a W at the end of this one.
The disparity this season in Women's ACC is pretty incredible. You have seven teams 5-2 or better in conference play. You then have 6 teams 2-5 or worse in conference play, with two other teams floating at 3-4. That said, because of how soft most of the teams make their OOC play, you only have three teams with losing records so far. In terms of being able to get wins, the Lady Hokies still have five games against the bottom six teams, including tonight as well as one game against one of the 3-4 teams.
I think the men's standings disparity is extremely similar. Really unusual.
Up by 20 with 2:00 left. I don't think even this team can lose this one...
Happy to see the girls break the drought and get a W.
Hey there we go time to get some momentum
Finally!
