Do recruits get free VT or whatever college gear they visit for free on their visits, or is that against NCAA rules?
I know they get t-shirts from when they camp during the summer, but I'm talking about other stuff. For example in the pic below from 247, Isaiah Ford and the other kid are wearing matching VT beanies plus Ford's super nice VT jacket (All Nike). Just curious.

If someone with knowledge could answer that'd be appreciated!!

That's a really good question. I'd assume there's a certain amount of stuff the NCAA allows us to give recruits, and I base that on absolutely nothing.
Works for me!
Deon Newsome is the guy in the grey shirt.
Just so we're clear, he's not related to one Curt Newsome, correct?
Not unless Deion tans. A lot. A WHOLE LOT.
Based off a quick Google search, all I can find is that they are allowed a "reasonable" amount of entertainment expenses. My guess is that apparel would fall into that category. There was an article on Yahoo the other day that had an itinerary for an official visit and part of it was taking pictures in the school's attire.
Where do boats and hos fit into the entertainment expenses? I would be rather entertained with a few boats and a ho. Or a few hos and a boat.
Ask Miami. They apparently figured out a way to do it and get off.
I hate to say it, but I can't help but think the whole Penn State thing really distracted the NCAA from Miami (and rightly so) but that's probably the real reason they 'dropped the ball' in the Miami case.
Eh, sure that probably had a small effect, but the bigger issue was that the NCAA badly botched the investigation because they are one of the most disorganized organizations in the world and can't get their shit together.
They got off. Lol hos.
pun IN...tended??......
Don't forget about the post-Boat and Ho abortion. Gotta fit that into the budget.
So wrong. Yet. So funny.
It is so wrong. That's actually what bothered me the most about the Nevin Shapiro case. The fact he paid for abortions for strippers that the players (maybe recruits?) knocked up. That is truly atrocious.
I says gotdamn. That's fucked up.
I know that when we were in high school, Lalich would bring back dozens of UVA shirts, hats, sweatbands, pairs of gloves, etc. from the coaches every time he visited and give them out to our team (who wore orange and blue).
And then he was a huge bust and it was funny.
That last sentence wins.
IDK, but I saw a kid today with a Duke hat on in Walmart here in Alabama, so I smoked him with a trident.
Griffer killed a guy.
I saw that!
Griffer, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You may want to find a friend and lay low for a couple of weeks because you're probably wanted for murder.
Typical hilariousness. You TKP fellas are just classic. Turkey legs all around. And I just leave this right here:
Well, that escalated quickly! I mean that really got out of hand, fast.
where in Alabama are you?
Hanceville, near Cullman which is off of 65 in between Birmingham and Huntsville.
My family and I (6 of us) stay off of 72 near MooresMille just east of Huntsville. I know where Cullman is. North Huntsville has a VT alumni association (https://www.facebook.com/VirginiaTechAlumniNorthAlabamaChapter) check it out.
On official recruiting trips, no matter the sport, the hosting VT athlete is given an envelope with per diem in it to spend on entertainment for the recruit.
The host player isn't expected to spend their own money if they order a pizza etc. There really aren't too many limits on what you can spend the money on (unless you're at Miami of course).
For instance, on my trip to VT we polished off the last of the cash by buying me a VT shirt and then going to Owens and loading up a BIG bag with candy (better than a beanie and a jacket IMHO).
Deon Newsome is Myron Newsome's son. In case people were wondering?
In that case, I don't even need to see him play. Get this kid a scholarship and a helmet.
Good news. He's already on the team. A freshman
Any new news on Tim settle?
He said we would be in his top 5. Tim Settle that is.
CJ mentioned that he buys a lot of his own VT stuff, because he wasn't allowed to be gifted it. I'm sure Dozer is correct about the per diem, but anything outside of that, and for unofficial visits, I'm sure its out of their pocket.
Not like all of that stuff is expensive. I remember you could snag a t for like 5 bucks if you were willing to enjoy "last years" t...
