Thanks for actually updating it to say Feb 2019. The January threads that said December 2018 bothered me
I posted this in the countdown to signing day thread as well, Tyreem Powell commits to the Hokies!
"It sounds like a strong possibility because they are unhappy with the two quarterbacks left," Kadum said.
Hopefully, he meant the coaches are unhappy with the fact that they only have two quarterbacks at the moment because this could be taken out of context very easy.
Yeah, I think he just means they were unhappy with the numbers.
right, could be "unhappy with just having two quarterbacks" or "unhappy having two quarterbacks who just left"
TKP members can provide Kadum with phrasing training.
Every damn time he reels me back into believing.
Hell Yeah!! Getting guys for the 2020 class as well!!
Nester apparently had a nice long chat with Vice and Fu
FTF Guerry
This made me laugh way more than it should
I totally used this GIF earlier today in a chat w/ friends. Totally unrelated. It must be a sign!
I was reading the post about kadum visiting blackburg and there's 2 salty Jmu fans😅😅
Lots of salty fans
Can't be as salty as ECU fans
I have JMU siblings that are holier than thou about JMU. It really is funny.
I thought I read about the JMU coach withdrawing the commitment after the announcement he was taking the VT visit.
Yes
#petty
Didn't Fuente do the same with Capehart?
Either you're committed or you're not. Very simple.
And then the medium sized dogs came in
Blessed to say that I am committed to Virginia Tech!!! pic.twitter.com/3uhQmxeaI9— Matt Johnson (@therealMattyJ27) February 1, 2019 " target="_blank">
Got a PWO commit from a LB from Richmond
Matt Johnson will be a fan favorite.
Anyone got a link to the 247 page on OUR Matt Johnson? I Google his name and there are 1000 Matt Johnsons.
PWO commit out of Deep Run High School. Great kid. We're lucky to have a quality young man like him.
I don't think he has a 247 profile, but per a couple of comments on the 247 board he comes to VT as a well regarded PWO. He's a 6', 210ish safety / DB
His HUDL tape has some sick tackles from the LB spot. Also, some RB work too. Interested in what role he will have on this team. Antone Exum's HS here in Henrico.
HUDL
We've gotten three CBs for Jalin Hyatt since yesterday morning. High priority wide receiver
He says on the Twitter big news coming today. He's all Hokie.
Is he slated to play in the slot?
He's an outside guy, big play wiggle and a burner.
Thanks. A little undersized?
He's skinny, but a very natural "16 year old in high school" kind of skinny. Has the frame to fill out to a more college type WR body and probably pretty quickly. He's listed at 6'2 so height is good.
Big Play Wiggle band name

Is that you, hokiemacgruber???????
There it is!
I'm so excited and I just can't hide it
Not sure how excited you should get. I doubt it's Nestor so lower it down it a bit
I'm excited about anybody who wants to be a Hokie
I am too but sometime people overthink it. Just enjoy it
As long as they make us better, it's a good pickup in my book
I'm still excited and I ain't hiding it
Do you know who it is? Is this just based on the 247 VIBES threads?
Just let them discuss it. It's not about me and what I know.
FWIW 2 new CB's for Eugene Asante to the good guys!
During his ov to UNC?
They were both added yesterday. Kinda have the feeling he has always been a hokie and is just enjoying the ride.
These are the good times. Let's Go 🦃 pic.twitter.com/oTcAj3SXHi— Mark Diethorn (@MarkDHokies) February 2, 2019 " target="_blank">

247 reporting we added Knox Kadum
Revenge is sweet. Suck it, Dukes!

I know we all say this staff can't recruit, but it feels good to steal one from JMU
I hate to be a negative nancy, but I wouldn't really say its impressive to steal a recruit from an FCS school.
Umm Lsu and Uga wanted him but only as a PWO.
I don't think that's his point. JMU fans talk a lot of trash and act like they're rivals with us....just because they got lucky and beat us once and they play for national titles at a completely different level.
I think they've done a lot of great things as a program. But come on...
He was very close to being a take for Georgia when they thought they would lose Plumlee. Obviously he ultimately wasn't offered, but he was being viewed as a potential backup take for bigger schools very similar to why we ultimately snagged him. He's a bonafide winner at a high level of Georgia HS football, and that's what I want in a backup who might have to come in and finish a game one day.
Apparently LSU was another school showing interest.
Yea who wants to do things like Bama does, seems like a good recipe there.
JMU fans act like they're the greatest thing ever.
Is this a guy we were recruiting?
I assume we were interested. He was all Michigan until the Mack attack and the recruiting bunch at UNC got involved.
Yes we have offered, also plays Eugene Asante's position
Offered is different from actively recruiting. I have never heard of him. I don't know that we actually tried to recruit him. Asante yes we are trying hard. Hyatt is a priority. Nestor=pursuing.
Not really
2020 start has a familiar feel in the VA top 10.
Anything on how Nester's visit was this weekend?
I think it went well. The 247 Crystal Ball is trending our way...
Fortunately their offense is lethally simple so anyone can succeed in his system
Listening to the video his ex put up yesterday it's nice to see FSU take swift action
So when did FSU get anything resembling morals?
When they went away from the Bobby Bowden Coaching Tree, apparently.
Even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while
Doug Nester removed his OSU commit from his twitter bio
Edit: Darrisaw had the eyes emoji tweet but has since deleted it. Can't give details on the visit for Nester because it behind a paywall but my hopes are up again
I tell myself every year not to get excited but here we go
If we manage to land this kid, then Vice deserves some sort of bonus, like TWO Hardee's coupons or something ridiculous
Hardee's always sends me buy 1 get one free chicken biscuit coupons once a month. I wish Chick-fil-A did that :(
What how I want them coupons!!!
Download the chick-fil-a app for your phone. I usually get a free sandwich or biscuit every 2-4 weeks.
im sure if you tell them they will give you 2 buy one get one free chicken biscuit coupons twice a month. and itll be "there pleasure" they will not be outdone by anyone elses customer service.
Apparently he also plays basketball
OSU insider just gave a crystal ball for Nester to VT
Edit: and so did Wiltfong
:D
Get Vice a damn raise. Also knocked Burden off as the top staff recruiter. Can we get him to work on d-linemen?
OSU getting big dogged
Sticking it to PSU is more satisfying even though he's an OSU commit
It was a good weekend!
Aaaaaaaannnnndddddd......
Hold onto your butts boys. Wiltdong flipped his cb to VT
look at the list and note the affiliations
Penn state insiders OSU insiders Tech insiders and national experts are flipping there picks
Could end this year on a very high note
When he is expected to announce? NSD?
I saw someone say Monday.
Wednesday
I've been very hard on this staff and their ability to recruit, but signing Nester would be about a significant of a flip as I remember in program history, and would likely be our best OL class by far.
Time to move VV to DL!
I think he means in a recruiting capacity
Even so, I will have no part in Vance Vice being switched away from the O-line in any capacity.
WE. BIG. DOGS. NOW.
YES WE ARE!
Also everyone go donate so we can close the gap
It's funny how Vice went from the coach everybody wanted gone to now being the coach that we can absolutely not lose.
Flipping Nester from tOSU would arguably be the best recruiting job from any coach thus far in the Fuente era.
It almost as if fans should chill the fuck out and wait a few years to gather data points and create an informed opinion on something
Edit: my top rated comment, the first to go plaid, was me being sarcastic. My wife would be so proud
Edit 2: spoke with wife, can confirm she is very proud and has no idea what going plaid means. She noted that I do look handsome in plaid shirts.
I think a big part of it is our OL had been porous for so many years, people were going to be skeptical of a guy who had yet to really prove himself.
But thus far he has far exceeded expectations, and I think everyone should be excited for the future of the OL. It's been a LONG time since we could all say that.
I think all of these coaches had proven themselves to get this job from their success at Memphis. Whether or not they succeed at VT is one thing but they were objectively good hires based on VTs status then, money, and prominence in the football landscape.
VT was never as big as we thought it was and it showed in their first years worth recruiting. With the renewed focus on recruiting I think we are seeing just how behind we were
Just because you succeed once at on level does not mean you will succeed again at another.
I think you missed the point
That would require people on the Internet to have patience and make measured, logical decisions and we all know that isn't going to happen.
I love you Jolly.
Miss ya bud hope you're doing well!
This is a Jolly post I can 800% support.
So emo
I agree whole-heartedly with the premise, but Justin Fuente just went 6-7 in Year 3. That's starting to become significant data.
He also went 10-4 his first year after 4 straight 500 years. If we go 6-7 again next year maybe you have a point. It takes time
TIL 8-5 is a .500 record.
?
We went 8-5 in 2013, so we in fact did not have 4 straight .500 seasons.
Ah... shoulda read that more closely lol.
Then again, it didn't feel much better than the other 3 seasons that we actually finished .500. A temporary reprieve from struggling for bowl eligibility into late November, but still not great, Bob.
Well, if he goes 6-7 next year it'll mean we went 6-6 and got a bowl game waiver due to a lack of bowl eligible teams, since we play 2 FCS teams next year.
That, or we lose to one of the FCS teams........
Would leg, but...

He's not lying. And he sucks at Super Smash Brothers.
I can always count on you :D
Hahaha full disclosure, the all time record is 17-1 you-me, but that's besides the point.
This all sorta looks like there might even be a master plan that the coaches are sticking too and have faith in...
If we can land Asante and Nester this week, as bad as the Devyn Ford miss and Cam'ron Kelly disasters were; this class could still end up being great for the good guys.
You care about Cam'Ron Kelly? I think I feel better about our class without Kelly than I would with him. That kid has underperforming headache written all over him.
Yeah, but I'm saying from a highly regarded recruit perspective, I do agree it's addition by subtraction .
Personally I'd argue the disaster portion was when he held a commitment ceremony and had to commit to a team that wasn't in his top 8 because none of those offers were committable.
That's like the definition of chasing recruiting stars.
Agreed. I'd be more concerned over Sainristil. 2020 will be important for locking down some good talent for DBU.
Sainristil went to MI to play WR, not CB.
He would have played CB for us.
I agree that we recruited him as a CB, but apparently he wanted to play WR. If so, I'm not sure this is a real miss on our part.
Not saying it was one or the other but I would take JR Walker over Cam'ron Kelly any day
Is Walker going to play corner?
Nope.. FS/RV type player. That's why Murray and Carter are key members of this class.
Asante is far from a done deal and UNC actually has me super worried

Potential Flip
https://247sports.com/college/virginia-tech/Article/Doug-Nester-Virginia...
Flipping Nester and landing Asante would be beyond huge. It would get the momentum flowing in the right direction after a rough start to the off season.
I'd say that's very likely. I'll also say that we're making very good progress on a few players at positions of need.
Cunningham, Kadum, Carter, Asante, Nester + Burmeister, Danna and Hoffman would be one helluva February.
By all accounts, Nester's momentum appears to be toward us.
Asante seemed likely before his UNC OV. Are you suggesting Asante is now less likely? Major bummer if true.
Gonna go with no he's not suggesting that
Ha! Super Bowl hangover I guess.
Tell us about these "Players at positions of need"
More WR are incoming I'm guessing /s
I would get DE, QB, and maybe CB.
DE - the kid from CMU?
QB - the kid from Oregon?

You got my vote just for the fact that wasn't Bryce Harper with an MLB hair flip. Thanks!
Flipping Nester would give us 2 of the top 12 (2 of the top 7 going by 247 rankings only) and 4 of the top 50 offensive guard recruits in the 2019 class. Vice is absolutely killing it right now.
Landing Asante and Nester would also give us eight 4-stars in the 2019 class which would potentially be the most we've ever landed (haven't validated this, but have a good feeling about it).
And those 247 rankings are more accurate in this case. Hudson is an elite lineman and now him and Nester could be the closest to first round lineman draft picks we have than since 2000.
Don't forget Duane Brown.
But our offensive line recruiting is so much better than the Newsome days that it's hard to fathom. If we were pulling in this level of OL and WR during the 10 win season streak, I think we would have been a legitimate national title threat.
I think Hudson ends up at guard personally
I think the coaches like to play the 5 best...and move them into spots. 5 best baby!!! We'll have 5 great ones in a year or two. Solid
That is amazing. Is it common to have 4 OG in 1 cycle though? Or are we planning on moving some of them to tackles?
IMO Hudson is a tackle and Pritchard is a center
looks like we've got more than just four OGs in this class
I was just using the 247 position classifications. I agree the Pritchard will probably be a center. I haven't seen enough film to know if any of the other three will be a tackle.
Vance Vice is an assassin.
Would you say that he's a Vancessasin? or Vicessasin?
.... I'm just going to walk away quietly.
You probably should...
I mean, c'mon.
It's obviously "The Viceassin".
He's got a vice grip on this whole recruiting thing. He keeps this up he is looking at an adVANCEment
OL crootin' is really revving up
For what it's worth, I heard Nester plans to make his announcement either Tuesday night or Wednesday morning. These things are always in flux but figured I'd pass it along.

I'm hoping for Tuesday night Joe, because waiting till Wednesday scares the hell out of me, especially with P$U lurking in the background.
Just need to send the coaching staff to his basketball game and take their seats.
It's Wednesday morning.
Any insight into when Asante will announce?
My guess is that anyone undecided will just wait until NSD (this Wednesday).
Or beyond. There is no requirement for them to sign on NSD.
Current 247
VT = 69%
OSU = 31%
PSU. = 0%
"VT = 69%"
Nice
And all anOSU predictions pre-date the Urban Meyer retirement announcement.

Oh shit, the #sauce came from inside the website!
I'm gonna take the "telling TKP" thing as a sign!
Nah. He's just a user on here and he told AssPocketFullofWhiskey on the balcony at TOTS.
Think it bodes well he'll be signing Wednesday. We're the long time favorites. He just visited UNC. Doubt he'd let one visit momentum change his decision with 4 days left.
I feel good about him...but thinking that last OV can't sway someone would be misguided. It's hurt us a number of times over the years
He is jumping therefore start jumping am I right?
Spring Valley High School is an offensive lineman factory. Landing Nester could hopefully help us get our foot in the door there.
does anyone know if any of the crootin' services have a function where you can see what players have come out of which HS programs historically? i'm poking around and can't seem to find an obvious way to do that on 247
Rivals does but it can be difficult to use

2021 and 2020 will be high priority DE classes. We've sent out a lot of offers already, and I really like the look of the guys we have been offering.
I can't find this kid anywhere on 247, and ESPN hasn't even released their 2021 rankings yet.

Wiltfong CB to UNC for Asante
Last OV matters....¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That would suck
Any idea of where this one lands?
I've only ever heard very positive things regarding VT, but anytime Wiltfong puts something out there you have to pay attention
Asante's dad had a lot of positive things to say about Mack Brown in an interview after the visit to UNC. Take that for what it's worth. We'll see.
Guy on TSL who has some connections said Asante has backed off from VT. Didn't say he will go to UNC, but that he's certainly not solid to VT now. Also from TSL it sounds like Kumah is also in his ear and that's certainly not helping.
That guy doesn't know anything. He posted last week that Turner, Hazelton, and Holston were all transferring. On Sunday he posted that it would be announced yesterday that Mitchell is being fired and D Hall would be hired in his place (a post which he has since deleted). He also posted a few days ago that Asante was silently committed and that UNC was a visit just for fun.
Well I like the last sentence
If we have to land one of them, I'm taking Nester. It's been a long time since we've had an elite offensive line and we're showing that potential. Would suck to lose Asante though.
Why do we have to land one? It certainly would take the sting off to land Nester, but that can't be used as a means to ignore losing Asante and CRS to UNC. Both of those guys could, and should have been locked up by our staff. If we want to get back to competing for and winning the ACC, we can't continue to lose talented guys to those marginal peer schools like UNC.
Come on man. I was just saying I see Nester as the bigger need for us and going into their announcements I'll be more disappointed if we miss on him. Of course I'd like to get both of them. Go pick a fight on 247 if that's what you're looking for today or better yet, apply to join our coaching/support staff because you've got all the answers on this shit.
Relax. No one is picking a fight.
Replies are often in context to, and enhancements on the point you're making. They're not personal attacks.
Ok buddy
You have a lot of great points, and maybe it's just me, but boy does the tone of some of them come across as combative. Maybe not a "personal attack" in an ad hominem sense, but definitely in a "your point is laughable" sense.
I agree with you both: it's possible to be happy about flipping a recruit from OSU and annoyed about losing a recruit to UNC at the same time. One doesn't negate the other. If we're going to get to where we want to be, we need to be winning both of these kinds of battles.
No arguments there. I've just mentally prepared myself to lose both of them because that's how we roll but was stating I think Nester is the bigger win for us.
It isn't my intention. I do let the rah-rah, O&M glasses-only crowd get to me at times and that may come out in responses unintentionally. I don't edit posts, either. Likely things for me to be aware of going forward.
You speak like our staff can tie his hands and make the decision for him. If he goes to UNC on a visit and likes it more, that is his choice. We can't control the preferences of teenagers. We can sell what we have to offer but everyone doesn't place the same priority for what we can offer versus what other schools can offer. If he decides he wants to go to UNC because it is better for him for whatever reason, our staff can only do so much. It isn't like they dropped the ball in his recruiting and ignored him.
Just to reiterate, Dre Bly coached Roseman-Sinclair in high school. I know we like to get caught up in perceived leaders and crystal balls and whatnot, but if anyone can't see how that could immediately and drastically alter a kid's recruitment and wants to pin it on our staff, I'd contend that those expectations are fairly unrealistic.
In the case of Asante, I'd point out that VT only extended an offer in December and essentially all the major programs pursuing him offered at the same time. If he doesn't choose VT, I'm sure people will be upset because we were perceived to have the lead; however, this was an extremely fast-developing recruitment and created a situation where a single visit, especially a final visit, potentially had a severely inflated impact.
I don't have any insider info but I wonder if our coaches decided to swing for the fences scheduling a December official visit in hopes of having Asante sign in the early period. Then once he decided to wait until February, it became a much taller order to sustain the excitement.
This is a level-headed, enlightened take.

#recruitingstaffsmatter
I take it unc is promising him he can start, I can respect that. Wish him the best at unc even if their a basketball school.
This would be a major wet towel on what should be one of our most triumphant NSD's ever.
I can't blame him. The current starters at LB and Mike are young. He'd have to push past Ashby, Dax, Rivers, and Artis or 100% redshirt. He could probably start at UNC.
Agreed
This is completely illogical.
Playing for a big dog like VT >>>> playing for a baby blue cream puff like UNC.
Heck, those guys don't even turn up if it's not 80o and sunny. Hard to win championships when everyone's focus shifts to to the hard court once the leaves start to turn orange and maroon.
But Mack Brown has won championships before, surely he can do so again!!!
I could agree with this philosophy if we are talking bball. He has to stay 3yrs regardless in NCAAF. His choice should be on which school can get him in position to make it to the L in 3yrs.
I mean, if he goes to UNC, he'll catch plenty of Ls for the next 3 years
He'll also "earn" plenty of degrees too
Recruit goes to a blue blood: "He wants to play for a big dawg."
Recruit goes to a lesser school: "He could probably start there."

Grades man. I know how much it sucks, I was a bad student my Sophomore year and it fully figured out till it was too late for what I wanted to do.
Via the grapevine of Huntington, WV, I can say we're all going to be pretty happy tomorrow regarding Nester.
So help me...you better not be wrong!!!
👿🤨
I'll be just as upset as you.
Nester to PSU confirmed, then.
PSU was at his basketball game not too long ago wearing his name on their backs. They made a push. Penn State won't big time us this time though.
Ok cool. Makes my stomach calm down a little. Now we just gotta push for Asante. C'mon, Fuente! Land him!
Regarding Asante, we have to remember these are young kids who may not play every sport but most likely enjoy them in their spare time and watch on TV. Although we are clearly the better football school and have an up and coming Buzzsaw of a Basketball team, UNCheat probably spends more time taking these young recruits through the DeanDome than they do at Kenan Stadium which I imagine blows them away. Additionally, it's hard for them to say no to the baby blanket blue when it is now emblazoned with Jumpman 23. Gear and Facilities matter even when the football sucks donkey balls.
The comments on this on twitter are hilarious!
More please!
First tweet has major error... this checks out.
What was wrong with the first tweet? I didn't see it.
I can almost guarantee no one has any clue what Asante is going to do tomorrow. I still like our chances personally, but the kid hasn't said anything
I 2nd this
I like this.
I'm sure the quiet period near signing days isn't honored. How do schools break it? Intermediaries ganflingbthe communication or just blatantly calling and texting kids from burners?
My understanding is the dead periods do not mean no calls/text. Just no face to face visits.
Now I do not know if facetime/skype etc is allowed.
Correct me if any of this is wrong.
The dead period is just on face-to-face meetings. Coaches can still call/text all they want
Edit:

how does this work for saban since he doesn't call or text? maybe he just uses cash app or venmo.
I hate it when other schools' intermediaries ganflingbthe communications but I'm ok with ours doing it.
I hate to be a downer but I'm doing my best to keep expectations in check. My gut on Asante is that we lost him on his last OV. It looks like people with connections to VT are saying "no one has any clue" but people whose job it is to have a clue (Wiltfong and Dohn) seem to think UNC has the late edge.
Long story short: I'm expecting disappointment in the case of Asante.
I am expecting disappointment as well. Also wouldn't shock me if Nester picks someone else as a "shock" and we find out he has been gaming everyone to believe we had a chance just to get that extra shock factor.
I'm an eternal pessimist so hopefully I am wrong.
I don't think he has a clue either. Just going off what others are saying is my guess. UNC is giddy and over reactive lately
FWIW Wiltfong is saying he's not very confident in his pick and Dohn said he's sticking with VT for now as of a few hours ago
I guess we'll just have to pay attention to the CBs right up til his announcement... I've just been burnt getting my hopes up in these high profile recruiting battles one too many times.
That said I think this is a really good class without Nester or Asante and outstanding with either of them (or both).
And now Dohn and the NCSU insider have CBs to UNC....
We've seen this before, and know how it ends.
Edit: And Watkins this morning... at 5:30, get some sleep dude, and so long Asante.
"No one has any clue"= "it's bad news, but we're holding out hope until Evan Watkins flips his CB"
Speaking of Watkins flipping his CB...
Former 5 star Bama LB Eyabi Anoma enters transfer portal. He was only a Freshman. We are seeing a NCAA free agency in the works.
Locksley and Maryland all the way.
I've seen some people thinking he ultimately stays, but he possibly almost left in December as well. Seems the guy is homesick/having trouble adjusting to college.
If he does leave, UMD seems an obvious choice but he will have his choice of just about anywhere.
You mean to tell me that college football players are people or something?
Amare Barno got a small recruiting bump today, he is still a 3 star, but brought our overall recruit rating to over .8700
Slim Shady on TSL reports Asante to UNC. CB's this evening starting to go that way too. Sounds like Kumah may have influenced him pretty heavy too per 247.
This has two down votes.... why? I'm legging you...
And if the Kumah rumors are true then screw that guy.
I legged him as well. Guess some can't handle bad news...
Agreed.
While I was bummed that Kumah wanted to transfer, if this is true, I'm really glad he'a gone.
Although this was a painful purge, it seems like it was an absolute necessity - cut off the necrotic limb to save the body.
I didn't downvote but it's clearly breaching paywall information from another site, which is against community guidelines.
We could all sense that Nester and Asante to VT on NSD is too good to be true. Thus the plight of being a VT fan. Hope the reports of Asante to UNC are wrong, and happy to have Nester coming to B-Burg. Let's get it done in 2019 CJF.
I heard some of the rumors about Kumah but didn't want to post about it because I haven't seen anything concrete. I feel like this happens with us entirely too often. I'm sure it happens elsewhere but it seems like we always get the most blowback from disgruntled players. It's hurt us in a few areas/high schools.
I'm glad he's gone then
Edit: As much as this situation frustrates me, I've decided it's poor taste to mention names without knowing the details with any real certainty. I hope any VT player who decides to continue his career elsewhere can let bygones be bygones and move on without intentionally causing harm to the university, especially considering VT will be the alma mater for many of them. That strikes me as an especially sad and unnecessary situation.
If this is true, I don't have too many nice things to say about Kumah going forward.
As far as I'm concerned Trevon is already headlining the VT shit list, and if Kumah wants to take the undercard, so be it. The more time passes the more it seems like there were some grade A douchebags in the locker room that just needed to GTFO this year.
Yep. Fuck em. It's one thing to give up on the team but it's a whole different story to reach out to a recruit & talk shit about our program
Is that rumor originally coming from Twitter? Because if you search "Eugene Asante Eric Kumah" on Twitter this guy is the only one who shows up, and he has 8 followers and 3 total tweets, all about this "situation":
If this is the rumor we're going off of, then I don't believe it and none of us should.
Yeah there is absolutely no reason to believe this guy. He continually says sources to make it sound like he knows something in his FOUR tweets.
SOURCES tell me this guy's twitter is bullshit and we shouldn't spread this on tkp
I don't know the guy and wouldn't take it as fact but I don't think it can be completely dismissed as BS either. He is active with replies and has never reported any stories before. I'm not saying he has a legit source but I don't think it's likely he created a burner account 18 months ago just to stir up drama on Asante. His location is listed as Chantilly, which would be a potential connection to Asante. Ultimately we've heard similar rumblings from a few places at this point.
Yeah, he listed on Twitter that he's from Chantilly but how tf do we know he's not full of shit?
We don't. Twitter is essentially designed to spread information as quickly as possible without fact checking. Everyone on it is full of shit at one point or another.
Feels like Kumah is insecure about his choice and wants to get validation by getting others to go with him - kind of sad honestly.
Good player, but that mentality will limit him and other people won't respect that once the initial attention wears off.
People are worried that they're going after Tre to transer. Some dude on 247 nailed it when he said something to the effect of "I don't get what Kumah's angle is, 'Tre, I'm mad you passed me on the depth chart, let's both tranfer'."
That shit is too funny.
I get not liking Kumah for influencing a recruit's decision, but like, if the kid asked Kumah what he thought about VT and why he transferred, what's Kumah supposed to say?
Keep it classy at least
I think the context here is trying to sway others to make the same decision as you, negative commentary (aka if I didn't like it then nobody could way of thinking) and initiating that negative discussion versus just responding about your own individual opinion and situation.
It's a great school and I enjoyed my time there. I'm just looking to go somewhere that I can be the #1 receiver and show off my talent.
"Wasn't the right situation for me. In the end you have to do what's best for yourself."
Anything more, and any attempt to persuade others to follow you is unbelievably petty and vindictive and shows more about your own character than anything else.
conversation I had on a conference call with one of our transfers and a Syracuse coach (both friends of mine trying to help said kid find a new home) Syracuse coach asked a lot of questions. one part of the convo ill leave below and leave at that. but this is how you answer the question. to anyone that asks you anything about VT.
Syracuse coach: why are you deciding to transfer?
VT player in portal: looking at the depth chart and the direction the coaching staff informed me they were going I didn't feel like I would be utilized to the best of my ability, I feel like I bring more to the table and I want to showcase my full skill set, this is my last chance to really have an opportunity to do that. I know what I am capable of and I just want to find a good fit for me to show out and try and get to the next level and help a program take that next step.
and that was the end of that part of the conversation. no mention off locker room/ coaching staff/ team issues/ etc. Even when the coach tried to probe a little more to get him to respond he kept the conversation focus on ONLY himself and what his goals were and what he wanted to accomplish next, the thing these kids don't understand (and some do clearly like the one in the convo above) is that coaches talk, NFL teams talk to coaches, character matters especially if you aren't a top 10 draft pick. When you get to the draft and its the 6th or 7th round and they are picking between you and someone else. They aren't going to want someone who is going to cause problems and while these little social media rants and back door BS may not seem like anything, more often than not it represents/ portrays a certain attitude that as a player you should just not want to be associated with your name.
This makes sense talking from player-to-coach. It's like leaving one job and interviewing at another one; you don't badmouth your previous employer, but if your boss sucked then you'll tell your buddy who's thinking about taking your old job.
Y'all we really have no real idea why Kumah left, and plus this isn't like a professional job setting where you just say "I worked at this location from 2016 through 2018" and that's it. If Kumah really felt like it wasn't the place for him then he had his reasons, and I for one don't expect him to just take those reasons to his grave. If he tells someone else that he thought the coaches were trash then so be it, we've got 80 other kids on the team that think otherwise who can tell the same recruits.
Expecting a player to "be classy" aka not saying anything about his personal situation to another player or recruit is Orange and Maroon Expectations.
VThokies904 nailed it above. And kudos to that young man. Hope he succeeds.
And THill has a ton of talent - talent that could allow him to play on Sundays - but I'm going to bet his antics come back to bite him. If you're not a sure fire talent - coaches and managers ain't going to take a chance on that crap.
As for Kumah - he was a borderline NFL talent anyway so I imagine his attitude will only further diminish those chances.
To me it comes down to Kumah seeking out Asante, or did Asante seek out Kumah?
Kumah tweeted his conversation with Asante since some fools had been reading into it too much.
1) he told him coach foster is the best
2) people need to stop tweetin at 'cruits
Anybody else notice that Tayvion Land committed to Liberty.
Also getting Kei'trel Clark. We all know about Tank's size and Clark's academics, but Liberty is definitely getting 2 talented CBs.
That has to be a tough pill for Land. Going from one of the top rated DBs his sophmore year to finding a last minute place at Liberty.
Karma
why? tank wanted to be here, wasn't a take
You must be new around here.
He decommitted from us to try to find a better team and then after the decommit we were not interested.
I knew that name (Land) sounded familiar when I saw it on twitter this morning...forgot the whole story. Thanks.
Losing Asante is a bummer but of the 2, I would rather get Nester. Having a strong OL will fix a lot of other issues on offense if we can run the ball
I think I agree, but I'm not 100% sold. We obviously can't be sure that Asante was Tremaine 2.0 but the tape made it look like it was possible and that type of player completely changes a defense. We do have solid young LBs right now, so he wasn't a critical get but if you let yourself picture him as Tremaine 2.0 it is a really tough pill to swallow.
Nester is obviously an amazing get, if we land him.
I'll give you 5:1 odds that Asante is not a 1st round draft pick in 2 years.
edit: misread. Nothing to see here
I'll give you $1million/1, especially considering you have to be out of high school 3 years to be pro eligible
I meant after 2 years of play as a junior
My point isn't that he will exactly replicate Tremaine, only that he appears to have that potential physically. A lot can change that and a lot of other factors can impact his post collegiate career.
I'm not saying I'd take Asante over Nester... Just that its tempting. Nester isnt going to drastically improve our O next year Asante appears to have the physicality and athleticism to be a factor on D right away.
Missing Asante definitely stings but I have faith that Bud can find LBs and field a good defense more years than not. Having a strong OL is something VT has needed for a long time so shifting gears and building momentum there I think is more beneficial long term for us.
I agree with this a 95 OL is clearly a bigger win than a 90 LB is a loss. Any thought that it might be the other way around is an over reaction to how horrible our D was this year and residual butthurt from our long string of recruiting losses on players we were supposedly in the lead for from Sweat through Ford.
I liked Asante's film a LOT and am bummed we missed on him, but I'm not sure I see the comparison to Tremaine, physically. Edmunds was like 6' 5" 250 with stupid reach and Asante is like 6' 1" 210 and can probably carry like 225 well. If he got a lot bigger he'd start getting slower. He plays physically, but at the D1 level he's gonna be a little small ish. I'm not saying Asante won't be a heck of a player, only that I'm just not sold on the comparison and potential at the next level.
To me he's a cookie cutter Xavier Adibi....
Yeah I think that's the best case scenario/ceiling. Which obviously is quite high. But not Tremaine.
This staff is able to recruit in general. Guys like zohn and VV are exceeding my personal expectations. There is still one issue and one question mark.
The question mark is how well can this staff develope talent? We want to see these higher level recruits turn in to consistent and reliable starters. We have seem glimmers, but need to see it week in and week out during this upcoming season.
The issue is roster management. We can pull upper level recruits but we have got to do a better job at anticipating holes in the roster one to two years out. A hole at one position can torpedo a season regardless of a good flip or two in recruiting. We should have gone after an elite QB this entire recruiting cycle for instance. I know all the arguments, two many guys already blah blah blah. If I know 1 to 2 of those guys are leaving months in advance, and if I have people I. The program telling me QP is still not able to get the ball to his receivers then the coaches sure as hell know these things too.
So recruiting is fine to me. Need to see development and depth moving forward.
They offered six QB's prior to the transfers. Not saying it was a priority but they at least made contact.
Fair enough. I just didn't hear much about QBs on the recruiting front this cycle. Perhaps internally they worked much harder on that position than I know. The result though is that we pulled none of them.
Charleston Daily Mail reporting this morning that Nester has chosen the Hokies quoting him saying he loves it there (VT-Blacksburg).
