Loeffler really seems to have a potentially great QB with Ford. Can't wait to see how the offense looks in a few years, when we establish ourselves with the new system.

I for one am very excited for the QB battle between Motley, Ford, Bucky, and Leal next Spring. I think all have their pluses and minuses and will be desperate to win the job. Ford though may have the inside track. He is obviously talented and is Lefty's guy.

We'll get the best of the 4... Competition will bring out the best in them

oh my god... that is an amazing image.

It was a catch

Ok, I'm giving you a turkey leg for the screenname, but you gotta explain it, dude.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

haha ohhh I played a lot of soccer growing up and have abnormally large calves, and this kid in my high school said that they were like goat legs and called me goat. During high school soccer my teammates find out about the it and said I played like a "goat" but in a good way and would actually use that nickname during games. Eventually it spread throughout the school. My last name is Chapman so people would call me Chappy the Goat. I embraced the ridiculousness of it and use it as an online alias.

At first I was like

ford

but then I was like

horse

I lost my shit when I saw the horse. It was my initial reaction as well.

Well done Horse, thank you for giving me a big smile and a LOL during my last night in Honduras, likely the last one forever. Guess I am going to need a new avatar. Now back to packing...

Our quarterback (Ford) was on point tonight. He scrambled, ran for his life,

Imagine what he could do with a decent OL...

#ENFUENTE #BALLSOFSTEEL #Livefor32

I've been saying that about VT quarterbacks for the better part of a decade.

Seriously. All Glennon-bashing aside, he could've been a much different qb if he had a line.

I was not a popular man when I said that in the stands one game.

But it's really true, he was usually running for his life & is clearly not a runner. He made some bad decisions (coughUGAcough), but so did Logan, Tyrod, etc. Given the time in the pocket, he was a quality player, he just rarely had that time.

It's cause our fans are racist against white QBs

Explains why most fans are salivating for Ford to play over Leal and Hodges.

Glennon never lost to Duke... just saying.

Someone's still upset...

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

All Glennon bashing aside, him and LT are somewhat similar in that they both are/were frustratingly inconsistent. Had Glennon had LT3's running ability or LT3 had Glennon's team's talent, they both could have been thought of differently.

Noticed the PSU fans are wondering why no offer and saying they can offer him and he'll go there- I doubt it. I think the guy is all VT

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,
but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

Hard to say. They're Hackenberging it up around here, and the guy is only a true freshman. Ford would have to sit behind him for a long while before getting in the game. I think Ford is better off coming to Blacksburg, but the schools are so similar and the opportunity to get top notch QB coaching exists in both places. But the playing time is more readily available in Hokietown.

Not sure why this got a DV, so I balanced it.

Thanks. I've been a bit callous around here the last few weeks, so I figure it might time for a little bad karma to come back around at me.

Karma is an awesome concept. I love the idea that I can troll Hoos all day and be confident that they probably deserved it.

A message to rest of college football: Be afraid, be very afraid. The chosen one is coming.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

I don't know why but he kind of reminds me of Connor Shaw back when he got picked up. To me it will be really refreshing to see someone who actually plays QB take the reigns of this offense. No offense to Logan Thomas I mean no disrespect but, LT is a TE not a QB. Looking forward to seeing this dude come through in Loeffler's new system.

Keep calm, Gobble on

As many have said now, Logan Thomas is not a TE. He may have a tight end build, as far as size, athleticism, etc, but he's a QB. He's been a QB, he is a QB, will continue to be a QB, and most importantly, he's our QB. Not to mention he holds a good number of VT quarterback records. Saying "oh, he's a TE, not a QB" after having a bad game is like coming out after the Alabama game and saying our receivers were DBs not WRs because they can't catch.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Not denying Logan being a quarterback, but this catch as a WR was absolutely sick. One can only wonder what would've happened if we would have gotten Tajh Boyd or EJ Manuel to stay in-state...

Sorry. Could only find phone recordings of the TD on youtube.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

I'll never forget watching that from the East Stands and wondering why we didn't see a little more of that goal line fade his R-FR year. Awesome play.

I saw this from the front row on the 10 yard line (and it was my birthday!!!! Ahh, youth.). Glory, hallelujah, it was beautiful.

This. I don't see how we wouldn't win it all with an offense with just as much potential and lethal as our defense.

If we had Tajh or EJ, they would have been more like Tyrod & Logan respectively because of bad QB coaching. O'Cain would've ruined all that potential.

#ENFUENTE #BALLSOFSTEEL #Livefor32

He is an athlete. And yes, he currently plays QB and has for most of his football career. However, that does not necessarily mean he is a QB.

In high school, a lot of coaches place the talented kids in certain positions. Some giant comes along, can sling the ball, "Oh, best make him the QB". When you have so many other kids that aren't that talented in the high school game, you make sure the ball is in your athletes hands. If he played high school ball at another school with other top talent, I bet he wouldn't have been a QB. This is why he was recruited as a TE. In fact, it's well documented that he never wanted to play QB at VT.

And yet he didn't transfer after being told that he would play QB. Makes me think that he wants to play the position. So the guy that didn't want to be a QB now holds nearly every offensive record for the program.

We'll never know. Not sure he'll play QB in the pros though. Hope he doesn't become he next tebow if that's the case.

Oh, and made me think of McMillan, he is in a similar situation.

I don't know about anybody else, but I can toss a regular football pretty well but I really struggle with smaller footballs. I wonder if maybe Thomas has trouble throwing sometimes because his hands are sooo big and the ball is "small" in his hand. From thumb to his middle finger he can hold the ball at the widest part and touch 3 seams! That's a huge hand. He can toss the deep ball, I agree, but he doesn't display the ability to put touch on short passes. He routinely misses screens and he struggles with check downs. He launches rockets at receivers 10 yards away. I wonder if throwing it hard is the only way he can throw a decently accurate pass. (not sure if that would be related to the size of his hand or not)

just some observations. I like LT a lot but I don't think he's a "natural" QB. Yes, he's been playing QB for years now and he's our best option at the position (or he wouldn't be starting, right?) but I think his physical characteristics fit a different position better than QB. I'm not a Leal (or Ford for that matter) truther and I support LT when he's on the field, but I just can't agree that he's a natural QB.

Onward and upward

He's gonna get redshirted most likely. Leal has been in the system and waiting for his shot, which he should get imo next year while Ford redshirts.

They'll really get after ya

I wouldn't redshirt him. If he isn't ready to start, but could play backup I'd keep him on the sidelines involved and ready to play - whether that be mop up duty or in relief for an injured starter. If he is as good as we hope, do you honestly think he will stick around for four years, let alone five?

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

We can redshirt him and still have him as the backup. As long as he doesn't play a snap, he's still redshirting. Redshirting doesn't mean you don't dress for the game, it just means you don't play. It can be pulled at any time and he can be put in the game, see Tyrod against LSU in 2007 and again in 2008 after ECU.

Yes, I know how the redshirt works. My feeling is that if the kid has the talent I want him stoked. I want him dying to get into the game. I want him working every second to pry his way onto that field. If he is Loeffler's guy, make him salivate for that opportunity and who is to say that after four, five, six games he isn't the starter and the rest is history.

Maybe I'm dreaming.

"The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. " Rocky B.

idk if you read Frank's book, but he mentioned that he made MV7's highschool coach and parents a promise to redshirt him.

Sometimes a redshirt season is best for a QB's development. Beamer/Loeffler have been in the business long enough that they'll make the correct decision.

And that's fine. He can work his tail off to get in the game, but if he hasn't won the position by game 5, it would be stupid to burn his redshirt. Keep him on the sidelines and have another serviceable backup that has already used their redshirt like Motley or Bucky. If something like Maryland's situation last year where they lost 3 or 4 QBs to injury occurs, then you play him because you have to. But don't play him just because you can only as a backup. Save a year of eligibility at all costs if possible

Michael Vick redshirted but he still traveled and dress with the team as if he wasnt redshirted, you can still dress and travel despite being redshirted. And honestly it would be better for him to redshirt. We had to deal with the growing pains of Tyrod's first cuz because he wasnt. Quarterbacks perform better when they get redshirted

They'll really get after ya

I hope he can enroll early and be here for spring. If he blows people doors off make him the QB as a True Freshman, otherwise lets try and redshirt him behind Leal or whoever.

He will be enrolling early.

UVA: Jefferson's biggest mistake

@pbowman6

He will here in January.

In Sam Rogers we trust.

There was an interview with his HS coach, and the kid has a phenomenal football IQ. Coach sounded as if he'd let him call plays. I would not be surprised if he knows the playbook front and back by second week of spring practice. And I believe he's running Loefflers offense now in HS.

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,

It has been too long since a lefty played QB in Blacksburg. I anxiously await Mr. Ford's arrival.

A lefty coming to play for Lefty? It's so crazy, it JUST. MIGHT. WORK.

I've asked this question on here several times and have yet to get an answer....

but is Scot 'Lefty' Loeffler ACTUALLY left handed? Does anybody know? Did he get that nick name just because of his last name or is he a true South Paw?

Onward and upward

I'm pretty sure it's just his last name.

I cannot wait for Ford to get on campus. I have a feeling this guy makes a Facyson style statement and doesn't redshirt but gets playing time.

Behind Leal :)

DFWTF...DON'T FUCK WITH THE FULLERS

If Ford beats Leal in the spring and summer camps, go with him. As much as I feel bad for Leal, play the better QB.

Better QB=More experienced
More experienced=Leal
Therefore, Better QB=Leal

DFWTF...DON'T FUCK WITH THE FULLERS

So what you're saying is Ace Fierro is better than Johnny Manziel?

"Exit light..."

I can only assume based on his name that if football doesn't work out for Ace Fierro, he's going into porn.

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

That's it. You win the internet. Case closed.

DFWTF...DON'T FUCK WITH THE FULLERS

It's often the case, but not necessarily. At Stanford a few years ago, Tavita Pritchard led the Cardinal's shocking upset of USC and I for one thought he had the starting QB job on lockdown, no question. Then, his senior year, he got beat out by some r-Freshman named Andrew Luck.

Not saying Leal won't play or that Ford is the next Luck, but experience isn't everything all the time.

Notice that Andrew Luck was a REDSHIRT freshman. That extra year makes a lot of difference.

Sarcastica, I presume?

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I hope so...

It was a catch

You never know once a kid get's on campus how their star rating will pan out. Ford might just be the best Sr QB out there..we can only hope he is as good or better then his stats and star rating.

Touchdown Tech - Bill Roth

We'll need a good O-line for Ford to succeed. Otherwise a more athletic qb will win out.

Bingo. We may not have a decent offensive line until 2015, and Ford will be a R-Fr at that point in time. I'm personally not in favor of getting our prize QB recruit dinged up in his true freshman year just because some folks want him to play right away.

Yes, Ford is a very good QB as a senior in high school, but he needs a year to get used to the speed of the college game, especially playing against college seniors who may be much bigger, faster, and stronger than anything he's seen at the high school level.

Seems to me the OL has played pretty well, with the issues being qb and rb reads. And they return 4 of 5 starter next year.

'Its easy to grin, when your ship comes in, and you've got the stock market beat,
but the man worthwhile, is the man who can smile, when his shorts are too tight in the seat'

You're right. I fully expect a very good O-line by next year and beyond. 4/5 starters + Gibson return. The depth will be much greater with Teller, Osterloh, and Chung all redshirting this year. R-Freshmen Conte, Smith, and Willenbrock should all improve greatly under Grimes tutelage. Then the "Fab Five" all come in next year (I think some may gray-shirt...). The O-line will have a renewed competition in the spring and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the current starters end up being supplanted by some of these freshmen. The future is bright, friends.

๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ ๐Ÿฆƒ

Our Alumni Association is going to the Cedar Cliff Game tomorrow night to watch Andrew Ford play. (As long as the monsoon does't cause issues) I'll be there and will report back.

Ford for 4 year starter.

Ford's aren't known for lasting a full 4 years reliably....I think we should start him right away because Ford's are at their best fresh from the factory. He'll probably only be productive for 3 years before he starts to break down and have problems. Hopefully we'll find a good replacement before any major components falter and we can trade up while he's at his prime before his value plummets.

(this is all satire...take that into consideration before blasting me)

Onward and upward

That ^ made me smile. Turkey leg for you.

glad you enjoyed that! Here, have a leg. I took a risk because I don't know what the general opinion is on Ford and I expected a slew of downvotes. I work with a bunch of super pro Ford homers and they would have torn that comment all to shreds.

Here's some satire:

It's a good thing we're going to start this guy as a freshman because we all know FORDS ARE ONLY GOOD FOR FOUR YEARS

Yup. I said it.

YES!

aww man..you missed out on the redesign when they stole all the parts from Aston Martin. The new Fusions look pretty cool..

My mom has a newer one. They are cool. Fast too. Would def buy one again.

@AMB4VT

They look good but I refuse to buy a front wheel drive vehicle and avoid driving them when possible. Also, my 16 year old Ford product, a Town Car a.k.a the pimpmobile (sarcasta font as she has stock parts), is still going strong.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

just curious, why do you refuse to buy front week drive? works better in the snow than rear wheel.

I hate torque steer, and I don't have problems with my car in the snow and she doesn't even have traction control.

"Hokie religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid." Han Solo

I'm really excited for how the spring competition goes between Leal, Motley, Hodges, and Ford.

We have Leal the RS - Senior that Loeffler said had a great fall camp. Then there's the 2 athletes in Motley and Hodges that can definitely help out the team at other positions (safety, TE respectively) if they don't show the ability to compete at QB. Lastly there's Andrew Ford who has been to a surprising amount of games this season traveling from Pennsylvania and is "Lefty's Guy" as far as being his recruit.

I'm assuming that Leal will start. I'm guessing that Ford will RS and possibly travel, well be interesting to see how he progresses in the spring.

I'm looking forward to Ford, because he is Leftys guy. He is a pro style QB and that is what lefty wants. I think the dual threat QB may be causing some issues with the game plan.

I am excited about QB battle next year.
