Another ugly one, but did you expect anything different?
The Hokies had the lead the whole way and even though the Irish cut into it, the good guys kept the buffer around about 5-9 the majority of the game. KJ had another fantastic double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. NAW put up a quiet 12, followed by Outlaw with 9, and Hill and Wilkins both with 8.
It wasn't pretty, but it was enough. Also, other than the Clemson game and {very arguably} the Louisville game, we've won the games we should and lost the games we should in 5's absence. With a possible return of 5 set for the FSU game and the way this team has handled adversity, there's a lot to be happy about.
Enjoy your weekend FAM! GO HOKIES!

It never felt like Notre Dame would be able to string together enough buckets to take the lead even when they'd cut it to 5. Another ugly offensive night but it felt more in control then some of the other wins we've had recently.
Ya, we definitely benefited from their offensive ineptitude being less than our offensive ineptitude. It scares me that we're not hitting wide open open looks the last 2 games, but the looks are there. I really think our defense is silently paying huge dividends. How else do you win these games with these shooting percentages lol.
Should keep us in the top 25 for another week! FAM!
Every win without J-Rob is a huge win. Keeps us in the hunt!

Edit: ignore. Wrong thread. Juggling a 3month old and trying to post from mobile obviously did not go well.
Not sure how this link applies to the thread.
More FAM
2 commonwealth clash points FAM!!!
Unfortunately, LOLUVa took 2nd in women's swimming and diving so we went 2-1 this weekend for clash points π
Deserves its own thread
There already is one, but I think the title of this post sort of makes a track and field comment appropriate. :)
Cole Beck looked real strong in the 200m against the ACC best (6 of the 8 who made the finals were from FSU). Missing out on the finals by 0.01 as freshman, bright things area ahead for him on the track team.
Is this a GIS joke? ;)
Blackshear has played his nuts off.
There are places in Florida that can take care of that

What a time to be alive.
And you can quote him on that shit too

That's preposterous. I can chug down WAY more maple syrup than him. Plus, my significant other is a literal, actual, factual human female & not some inflata sex doll. Also, I'm not as fat as him.
Good night all around. Hokies win and Florida State, Syracuse and Louisville all lost. Bit of a buffer regarding potential double bye
Catching Duke at the right time as well- they have to travel from Syracuse, NY to North Carolina tonight, have a 48 hour turnaround and then come to Cassell without Zion.
Are we sure ZIon is out
It is against us, of course he will be back and score 43 points, 27 rebounds and 0 personal fouls.
Also, Alex O'Connell will come off the bench and go 21/21 from behind the arc.
Damn, you're right. If the regular season ended today we'd have the double bye. That's crazy to think about considering how we've had to lower expectations with 5 out.
The crazier thing is that if we had had 5, we would probably have beaten Louisville and Clemson and may have beaten UVA. Those results would have us at 13-2....1/2 game up on Duke and UNC.
Even without the win over UVA, we'd be at 12-3, 1/2 game back of the top 3, with the double-bye almost locked up.
But here we are with just 2 weeks remaining and we're in the #4 spot; not trying to win out and have a few other teams lose (although that still helps)
Am I getting this right?
We need to beat FSU and Miami to finish 12-6
We need Louisville to drop one more (to LOluva?) and finish 11-7
We need Syracuse to lose one more so they finish no better than 12-6
Beating duke would change all that, but let's be realistic
Those are correct.
FSU plays Notre Dame, NC State, Virginia Tech, @ Wake Forest (must lose to VT)
Louisville plays BC, Notre Dame, @ UVA (must lose 1 or more)
Syracuse plays @UNC, @Wake Forest, UVA, @ Clemson (must lose 1 or more)
Couldn't believe my eyes at this quote:
Says a lot about the way this team has been fighting. Go Hokies! FAM!
Too many men? We play with like 7 guys.
And we only have 7. Maybe 8. Most teams have 10-13.
Right? Wilkins is like 16 years old. - fresh out da' motha.
Emphasis in context is on "men" (rather than "boys") and not on "many". This is a seasoned team, even with the underclassmen contributors.
Aw c'mon, there just a bunch of kids. Give 'em a break /s
They got a break. That's why 5 hasn't been playing.
We absolutely could have beaten loluva. Buzz's scheme worked, we just went stone cold from beyond the arc.
I think this stretch is going to pay dividends next season, when JRob is playing in the NBA.
Good point, I agree. I meant it more from a macro level - looking at our schedule with 5 out and circling games we should win and ones we should lose. Before the game, I don't think many people had the home game against UVA circled as a W. The way the game played out, totally agree that an even slightly better 3-point shooting night gets us that dub.
Hopefully, it will pay us dividends this season, when 5 returns. Everyone else stepping up their game, plus J-Rob returning (albeit maybe on the rusty side), should make us more formidable offensively, and with the additional depth, also help with the energy on defense. Also, nice to see us rebounding like we've been, especially during 5's absence. If it all comes together like it should, it could result in a fantastic finish to our 2019 season.
It speaks volumes that this team was 3-1 on the road in the ACC during 5's absence.
