Non Hokie News: UNC QB Surratt switching positions

Surratt is moving to linebacker, UNC coach Mack Brown confirmed in a text message on Tuesday

He didnt play much in 2018, being suspended for 4 games then injuring his wrist and missing a lot of games. In 2017 he passed for 1342 yards with a 58.5% completion rate and 8-3 TD/int ratio as a freshman. He didnt play vs us in 2018 (suspension) and replaced Brandon Harris in the game vs us in 2017, which I believe led to him starting more games the rest of 2017.

Obviously a mistake, he should've been moved to Tight End. Considering Mack brown is close friends with CFB, you woulda thought he would learn from Beamer's example.

Linebacker sounds like such a completely unnatural move. At 6'3" 215lbs he'd be okay at hybrid linebacker role but he'd have to gain a significant amount of weight to be a traditional NFL linebacker.

Searching through the interwebs, it also looks like he didnt even play defense that much in high school. He only had 21 total tackles for his career. I'm wondering if their linebacker situation is that dire that any able'd body would be better than what they currently have. So I agree, not sure what kind of future he has at linebacker...even at UNC

They'll really get after ya

Maybe he's got good sea legs.

Nope and he's not exactly a hard hitter. Receiver would be the best position imo, his little brother is a pretty good one I think at Wake Forest

UNC likes smaller LBs

I dont want to down vote you, so

BOOOOOO!!!!

Wasn't Kam Chancellor recruited as a 2-star QB?

Same guy who wanted to make Johnny Football a safety.

Something something old dog, something something new tricks.

Though it would seem Robert Kraft had no problem with new tricks but I digress.

I expect the Kraft story to infiltrate many a thread here.

Well the Mack Brown coaching experiment is going about as well as expected. (As is the recruiting, but let's not talk about that)

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Plenty of time for the recruiting to fall apart. He's got to be close to retirement and the results are going to have to be demonstrated on the field. I think the margin of error is really slim for UNC.

Listen, move to linebacker, take a few fake classes and you'll be good!

QBs don't switch to linebacker. They switch to TE.

Mack brown is such an amateur.

People can make fun of this move but Surratt should have never been a QB at UNC. That was a criminal move by a Fedora to make him the starter. Hope he can succeed at the position he should've been recruited for.

So were the stats where he only had 35 tackles in high school not true? Because if true why would any P5 school recurit him for defense with 35 tackles?

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

I believe most of his offers where of the "we'll let you start at QB and then move you" variety.

A lot of kids play QB in highschool and don't play a lot of D. I fail to see the correlation between tackles in HS with moving to a defensive position in college.

I think Surratts body of work at QB in college showed he wasn't a college QB. But he is a pretty good athlete, and that's why most saw him as a fit on defense eventually. Hes not a WR like his brother at Wake.

It worked well for Joel Lanning at Iowa State so you never know. I do agree that Surratt was never going to be successful at QB.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Mack Brown showing signs of confusion in his old age?

"Nooooooooooo!"
~What happened?
"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."
~*squints eyes in disbelief*

seems logical...both positions play about the same distance behind the LOS

Something something Mack browns to old to recruit at a high level something something he's 70 years old something something the be tekin er cruits blah blah

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

It worked for Iowa State.

Classic Chazz

And now Graduate QB Nathan Elliott has left UNC to become a Graduate Assistant at Arkansas St....

Yep. Here is the article about it.

So UNC will have a redshirt or true freshmen QB next year.
