Edit: Yes, Carrier Dome, by far. We have a won 20% of our games there. WVU is 36%. FSU and Miami are 32% (same record). Clemson is 40%. Pitt is 40%. The rest of our conference opponents (BE and ACC) we have a winning record at their stadium (minimum 5 games).

I know this is the fam thread and this will get overlooked but we need to have a serious discussion about the progression of KBJ. That guy for the past 3 years has been a decent player committing dumb fouls and fouling out a lot. I think he's finally realized his value. Even early this year he had a lot of bonehead fouls at the top of the key. He has been absolutely lights out on both sides of the floor during ACC play.

Yes. He always was good for that random 3 in seasons past but he's a legitimate 3 threat. His pivot at high post is great because he can kill you on the dribble, throw a damn lazer pass, or just decide to drain one over your dumb face (looking at you Bolden)

Going a full year without any stretches of dumb foul trouble could definitely improve his resume. He still showed some flashes of the old Kerry in the early part of the season.
Cutting down the nets in the 2020 NCAA tourney could only help as well...

The NBA doesn't really care about production at the college level. It's mostly about athleticism, measurables, and potential. Blackshear is tearing it up lately and may start to get some attention but I'd bet that scouts don't view him as having the ceiling to be a 1st round pick.
Either way I'm going to enjoy it because he's playing better right now than any VT big man in the last 20 years.

You are right on all levels. VT has come a long way from Alvaro Tor.
I do not know that he can do any more than he is doing right now. Every game (sans Louisville), the opposition D had no answer for KBJ without consistent help defense.
Right now, KBJ is efficient at:
1. Taking his defender off the bounce;
2. Hitting a jumper if his defender sags off him;
3. Playing in the low blocks with his back to the basket;
4. Passing out of double teams;
I can not remember a VT post play this well rounded and consistent. If an NBA scout does not want him now (and they may or may not be right that his skills will not translate to the NBA), I don't know how will do anything to change their mind next year.

February 26, 2011 I was lying in a hospital bed stuck in a 2 minute loop from a concussion due to a motorcycle accident. My dad got to tell me Tech beat Duke over and over and over (between my then-fiancee messing with me).
I'm glad I didn't have to go to those extremes to secure the win today.

Blackshear will be a preseason first team all ACC forward next season if he finishes this season on his current tear. He's is averaging a double double and 20 points and strong assist numbers since 5 went down.

Only Cavs can take an abundance of negative and embarrassing attention from last year and twist it into a blessing for what will be more negative and embarrassing attention; while replays of last year's said embarrassment are played ad nauseam the first weekend of the tournament and throughout every game they participate in.

Some FAM analysis from a wanna be basketball guru:
1) Bede grew up a bunch (or Duke was really overplaying him for no reason.) He got to the rim and distributed, just like Robinson would have. Robinson's finish isn't there, but with your point guard it doesn't always have to be (see Ed Cota, who couldn't hit the ocean if he fell out of a boat.) VT should have won by more because a bunch of solid open looks didn't drop that would have earlier this year.
2) Blackshear is playing with a ton of confidence. However, he needs to be better at getting position on the block so he can get more touches. When the color commentator kept saying Blackshear needed a touch, usually he was being overplayed and didn't roll to the hoop. Otherwise, he played an immaculate game. Ahmed Hill also delivered a really good defensive performance, which may get lost in all the hoopla over his shot falling.
3) Duke is not a team, even with Zion back, that I would predict makes a long run in the tournament. They really lack a point guard to get the offense set up and get the right people the ball on the right spots on the floor. RJ Barrett had to play a point forward, and he was going to take the shot every time he got a window to go left. When he couldn't, their offense was a shambles. They remind me of some of Caliperi's Kentucky teams which had a bunch of talented swing guys and couldn't get good looks because they don't have a distributor.
4) The other thing- why doesn't Coach K make the adjustment to play off Bede and keep him out of the lane? I know they doubled off him and zoned some, but when he had the ball, the Duke defender would step out on him. He wasn't a three point threat, and it took Duke's primary rotation/help defender further from the basket. Yet, there was no adjustment.
I am very pleased with that win. VT controlled the game, hit some rough patches, and righted themselves to execute in big spots. Outlaw hit the money shot at the right time, and NAW/Blackshear made critical free throws after the two missed threes that gave Duke a glimmer of hope. Best yet, everyone (except Kobongo... that was hilarious) acted like they expected to win the game. I like that.

Watching Bede grow in JRob's absence has been the most fun I never should have had this season. Seriously, go back and watch him against Georgia Tech, then watch his level of play tonight. Watching this young man gain confidence and realize this can be his show someday has been a microcosm of what Buzz does as a coach.

Okay, Bede is very hard to judge. The guy is much different than 5. Let's start with he's an absolute monster on D. Now on offense, in games previous he's been hesitant to really do anything. He'll dribble around and usually dish off the ball early. To me today Bede looked like a different player on offense he attacked with confidence. He didn't always go up with the ball but did it enough for player to respect that he might.
Don't get me wrong I want 5 back but Bede is also visually developing with the ridiculous amount of time he's been on the court.

Agreed. He was a totally different player offensively tonight. I believe he shot a three to start the game (can't remember if it was first or second possession) and it rimmed out. Blackshear clearly told him to keep shooting. These guys know they need him to shoot and be productive and Bede appears to be figuring that out. How he didn't score on that layup where he didn't even hit the rim was baffling, but at least he was attacking the rack. Good things happen when you put pressure on the defense and the more he attacks the better he'll get at finishing.

You need the TuneIn app so you can stream Laze and Burnop. I live in New Mexico and when I get the chance I sync video from ESPN and others with Sonos audio of the home team play by play for Basketball and Football games and there is NO SUBSTITUTE unless it is a really big game and we are the story. Otherwise Hokies are always second (I.e. Blackshear's ankle story tonight) and it just stinks. No better way to spend a long drive than the visuals painted by radio play by play!

Been camping in that area of the Jemez Mointains quite a bit. My daughter does a weeklong music camp about ten miles north of Jemez Springs every summer and I'm always jealous. When you were in NM did you ever fish the San Juan river below Navajo Dam? Really good rainbows there

On the first of my cross country road trips (April, 2008) I passed through NM and my dad flew from VA out there to meet me for four days. We stayed at a B&B in Jemez Springs and did some hiking around there. I did some fly fishing up in the mountain streams and caught some browns. I remember drinking at a bar called Los Ojos and hearing stories of Native Americans getting massacred on a ridge. Cool little town and I would definitely go back.

Such an awesome game! I loved seeing Hill get some time handling the ball to initiate the offense as well. It's good to mix up the ball handlers since their styles and talents are all a little different. Hill just has a quicker first step than NAW or Bede and that can help break down the defense

3) Duke is not a team, even with Zion back, that I would predict makes a long run in the tournament. They really lack a point guard to get the offense set up and get the right people the ball on the right spots on the floor. RJ Barrett had to play a point forward, and he was going to take the shot every time he got a window to go left. When he couldn't, their offense was a shambles. They remind me of some of Caliperi's Kentucky teams which had a bunch of talented swing guys and couldn't get good looks because they don't have a distributor.
4) The other thing- why doesn't Coach K make the adjustment to play off Bede and keep him out of the lane? I know they doubled off him and zoned some, but when he had the ball, the Duke defender would step out on him. He wasn't a three point threat, and it took Duke's primary rotation/help defender further from the basket. Yet, there was no adjustment.
I am very pleased with that win. VT controlled the game, hit some rough patches, and righted themselves to execute in big spots. Outlaw hit the money shot at the right time, and NAW/Blackshear made critical free throws after the two missed threes that gave Duke a glimmer of hope. Best yet, everyone (except Kobongo... that was hilarious) acted like they expected to win the game. I like that.

For #4 I wonder if the lack of agility of some of dukes players affects that decision. These guys couldn't get out of their own ways at times.
I think this is the downfall of these superfreshman teams that have been popping up in CBB. Point guard - the traditional type - is a position that a college player has to grow into over time, especially against top competition.
Watching Bede grow in JRob's absence has been the most fun I never should have had this season. Seriously, go back and watch him against Georgia Tech, then watch his level of play tonight. Watching this young man gain confidence and realize this can be his show someday has been a microcosm of what Buzz does as a coach.

Okay, Bede is very hard to judge. The guy is much different than 5. Let's start with he's an absolute monster on D. Now on offense, in games previous he's been hesitant to really do anything. He'll dribble around and usually dish off the ball early. To me today Bede looked like a different player on offense he attacked with confidence. He didn't always go up with the ball but did it enough for player to respect that he might.
Don't get me wrong I want 5 back but Bede is also visually developing with the ridiculous amount of time he's been on the court.
Agreed. He was a totally different player offensively tonight. I believe he shot a three to start the game (can't remember if it was first or second possession) and it rimmed out. Blackshear clearly told him to keep shooting. These guys know they need him to shoot and be productive and Bede appears to be figuring that out. How he didn't score on that layup where he didn't even hit the rim was baffling, but at least he was attacking the rack. Good things happen when you put pressure on the defense and the more he attacks the better he'll get at finishing.
He's only a sophomore. Robinson was a shooting liability as a sophomore. He seems to have the intangibles though.
Yeah I mean I didn't want to get into the gritty [gif] of it but he's been much more than just a shooting liability. He's gonna grow as much as I miss 5, having Bede play this much is really helping our future.

This game has to lift us to the 4 line, right? We're certainly a 5 at the worst. We beat Duke without Robinson when we're looking at getting him back before the dance, and any sports talking head who wants to devalue this because Duke was missing Zion can kiss my entire ass.
I don't think it is out of question and I would argue that 2 wins next week would put us in the 3 conversation. 13-5 in the ACC is worthy of a 3 in my opinion.

You need the TuneIn app so you can stream Laze and Burnop. I live in New Mexico and when I get the chance I sync video from ESPN and others with Sonos audio of the home team play by play for Basketball and Football games and there is NO SUBSTITUTE unless it is a really big game and we are the story. Otherwise Hokies are always second (I.e. Blackshear's ankle story tonight) and it just stinks. No better way to spend a long drive than the visuals painted by radio play by play!

Been camping in that area of the Jemez Mointains quite a bit. My daughter does a weeklong music camp about ten miles north of Jemez Springs every summer and I'm always jealous. When you were in NM did you ever fish the San Juan river below Navajo Dam? Really good rainbows there
On the first of my cross country road trips (April, 2008) I passed through NM and my dad flew from VA out there to meet me for four days. We stayed at a B&B in Jemez Springs and did some hiking around there. I did some fly fishing up in the mountain streams and caught some browns. I remember drinking at a bar called Los Ojos and hearing stories of Native Americans getting massacred on a ridge. Cool little town and I would definitely go back.

Such an awesome game! I loved seeing Hill get some time handling the ball to initiate the offense as well. It's good to mix up the ball handlers since their styles and talents are all a little different. Hill just has a quicker first step than NAW or Bede and that can help break down the defense
