That's a HUGE stat, last night after we went up, I just never felt like we'd let go of the lead. I didn't know our record was THAT good though with 5 min rem.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

My freshman year at VT was 2008. I went to every single basketball game and watched almost every away game. That was the must difficult season of fandom of any team I've ever followed. So many last minute losses, collapses, and buzzer beaters.

Since then, VT has largely been the team that can keep it close with almost anyone, but can't actually close. Seeing Buzz reverse this trend is more than just a breath of fresh air; it's a complete relief. We're no longer trying to get lucky, we're a legitimate threat.

We're 22-6, so the game is basically over with 5:00 remaining.

2026 Season Challenge: TBD
Previous Challenges: Star Wars (2019), Marvel (2020), Batman (2021), Wrasslin' (2022)

That settles it. How can Buzz continue to set these records if he doesn't stick around? Shaka's leaving Texas worries me, but Buzz is a different kinda guy. I heard that he values some things more than money. Let's hope so!

In Bud we trust

Regardless of how much emphasis Buzz puts on money we should pay the man. Texas is paying Shaka $3.1m a year to our $2.75m for Buzz. The show of faith in matching that kind of salary could be worth as much as the money itself.

If we clear this offseason with Buzz still on board I have to think he'll be around for a good while. We're losing two quintessential Buzz guys in 5 and Med as well as the likely early departure of NAW. On paper next season is shaping up to be the first season since Buzz got here that could be worse than the previous one if only because this one has been so good.

But it's Buzz so trying to predict any of his movements is a fool's errand.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I don't think Buzz cares so much about money as the culture/the challenge of coaching in a different environment.

Whether Buzz leaves next year or in 10 years, he has proven you can win basketball games at VT and has completely changed the culture surrounding the program. I'm not making any wagers on when/if he leaves, I'm just enjoying the moment and loving having one of the greatest on/off court coaches in the game today.

Just in case... we need to dig deep to make sure he stays... I for one will follow the gif's example and offer my watch.

"Nooooooooooo!"

"James Franklin to Virginia Tech...."
~Fuck me......*sigh*
"Oh my God.... They're gonna take all our recruits... like WTF bro...."

this thread needs way more "currently 5th place (needs x wins to be 1st)"

Chick Patty w/ Cheese

Honestly, depending on how "regular season" is defined... I went through last night and found that we have the 2nd most "regular season" wins in school history right now:

2009-10: 23-7
*2018-19: 22-6*
1995-96: 22-4
1985-86: 22-7

These numbers exclude conference and postseason tournaments. The only way I can see that we are "tied for 5th" this season in regular-season wins is if you count conference tournaments, which isn't fair since we haven't even finished the regular season yet.

Buzz can move up only with 2 more wins (all this is regular season). So with 2 wins...

Single season: can move into sole possession of 3rd, 1 win from a tie for 1st
Back to back: t3rd, 3 wins from tie for 1st.
Three year: 1st.
Four year: t1st.
Career: 6th. 115 games from 1st

Conference single season: t1st
Back to back: 2nd, 1 game back
Three year: t2nd, 1 game back
Four year: t3rd, 1 game back
Career: t4th, 30 games from 1st

IF Buzz leaves, I am confident Whit can and will find an acc-level good coach for around 3mil per plus Buzz's 50 person staff. This is not Weaver giving the job to James Johnson because he was affraid EriK Green would transfer and we would be 2-16 in the ACC instead of 4-14. This is a different ballgame now. Whit is committed to hoops.
