As much as I am a Logan fan, if he's selected in the 2nd round, that's going to be a recipe for disaster. I don't think he has NFL-starter material. His potential is off the roof, but you can tell he's not a gamer. His reads, both running and passing, aren't good. I don't think he handles blitzes well; his movement isn't great in the pocket and although he looks down field, he doesn't seem to find the open receiver. Unlike Rothelisberger, he can't throw well when tackled or held on to. Drops or not, he's a sub-60% pass-completer.
He's a hell of an athlete, but his deficiencies will prevent him from becoming an NFL starter. Much like Josh Freeman, his potential will always be greater than his realization.
Also, I should reiterate I'm a huge Logan fan. I would love nothing more than for him to become a complete QB and take it to a level that proves me dumb.

Any chance a team picks him up to develop him as a TE as he was originally slated to be? Is it too late at this point? How long would it take to get him up to speed? I mean, look at Kalvin Cline, that dude picked up the position in one season. Granted he is playing college and not NFL, but still......

I feel that Logan could definitely transition to TE. He has the athleticism to be an incredible Pro Bowl caliber TE. Or he could be a 2 or 3 deep project for a QB coach. He would make more money, have better longevity and potential at TE in the NFL.
However...Who knows he could go to a team have great receivers and grow into an amazing quarterback.

Well, they draft QBs and switch them to other positions all the time. Ronald Curry and Antwaan Randle El to WR (among many others, Denard Robinson to RB. And for what it's worth, Josh Nesbitt to DB.
He'd have to learn how to block NFL guys VERY quickly, though.

Jason Campbell is probably the most screwed with QB in NFL history. If I remember correctly, every year of his time at Auburn, and subsequently, for the Redskins, he had a new OC/QB coach. He learned something like 10 new offensive systems in a row, and now he's a journeyman, meaning since HS he probably hasn't had two consecutive years in the same offensive system.
Not disagreeing with you, just what I remember about his time with my Skins.

I could see a lot of the defensive seniors being in the 5-7 range. Teams should take a chance on guys like Gayle, Tyler, Edwards, Collins and Fuller. I think we will have a lot more than normal go to those senior bowl games just to showcase what they can do.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
As much as I dislike the Steelers, I would love to see Logan go there, learn under Big Ben for a few seasons, play some games in case of injury to show off (you know it will happen) then go to another team to start

Logan Thomas is not going pro. I liked the Carolina Panthers announcers last week when talking about Cam Newton. One of the announcers said that LT may be the next Cam Newton. The other retorted, "Except his passing is not as accurate, and makes poor reads on the field. Thomas' is not even as good as Tebow and we can see where he is now." That summarizes it.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That's too bad. I like Thomas and am impressed with his arm strength and all-around toughness. If he does not make it to the NFL because of the (lack of) training from the previous coaches than he was definitely done a huge disservice.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The game moves WAY too fast for Logan; he needs a position where he doesn't need to think. If you work for an NFL team and you actually think he can play QB at that level, you should be fired on the spot.

how we may have ruined his probable NFL career by forcing him to play qb
Interesting...I would never have thought that it was forcing a kid to play a position that's the exact same he played in High School. Nobody knows if Logan could block, run routes, and do everything he needs to be a TE because HE WAS NEVER A TE AND NEVER HAS BEEN. Despite what the recruiting services wanted to call him, he was a QB in high school and his skill set came from that. So as far as ruining his "probable NFL career" as a TE, you can also say that we ruined his possible NFL career as a Punter, Safety, LB, and any other position other than QB as well.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
He didn't want to play qb and even voiced his opinion about it early in his career. Before his first year as a starter, I read articles that clearly said that he didn't want to play qb initially.
But Thomas didnt always envision himself as the man behind center.
Growing up, Ive always been told, I need to play quarterback, I need to play quarterback, Thomas said.
I knew I could play it, I knew I could lead the team. I just kind of didnt want to because I grew up picturing myself catching the ball instead of throwing it.
At Brookville High School in Lynchburg, Va., Thomas did just about everything. He played wide receiver, tight end and defensive back before converting to quarterback his junior year.
In all four years at Brookville, Thomas always felt most comfortable making plays downfield rather than behind center. It showed in the recruiting reports, too many recruiting experts tabbed Thomas as the No. 1 tight end in the class of 2009.
Edit: And you're right about not knowing what kind of TE he could have been. I don't know if he would have been good or bad. My bad for implying he would have been a good TE for sure.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
While he may not have grown up wanting to play QB, that's what he played and excelled at. And honestly, I don't think that this article is entirely factual considering his cousin, Zach McCray, has gone on record several times saying Logan has NEVER played TE before. While he may have been a receiver before converting to QB, he was not a TE. Logan is a team player and team players play where the team needs them and where they fit best. I didn't want to play goalie for my high school soccer team but that's where they neeeded me so I did it and got the job done. If Logan didn't want to be a QB, he would have transferred after his first year when the coaches said "hey, you're going to be our next QB." Instead he stayed and played QB, setting nearly every offensive record at the school. Just because when he was younger, he saw himself catching touchdowns instead of throwing them, it doesn't mean that he's not a QB or shouldn't have been one. Coaches are paid the big bucks to see the skills and attributes a player has and to determine where they fit on the team and how to translate it to wins. Our coaches weren't the ones that moved him to QB so if you want to say that anybody potentially took away any future catching touchdowns, it was his coaches at Brookville.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Not trying to jump on you about it, but I just get tired of hearing people complain about the guy who will have his name next to every record other than career wins being trashed and told he's just a TE. He may not be the best QB in the nation, but he could have led us to a national title in 2011 and he's been the best QB we've had from 2011 to the present.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
No worries. I was always under the impression he didn't want to play qb but you're right, there's probably a bunch of players every year that don't want to play the position the coaches tell them to. I just jumped the gun in my post.
But I still don't think it would be wise for a NFL team to draft him for qb at the next level. I honestly don't see him playing at all in the NFL (my opinion, please don't kill me for it). That was my initial point, and I guess I should have just left it at that.

See this is what bothers me tho. No one can sit here and say that logan is the best option we have because we haven't tried anyone else. Everyone knows that beamer is super loyal even if he shouldn't. We all know logan is up and down when it comes to his play on the field. And the way he was playing against duke I would have liked to have seen a series or 2 of Leal. And as far as records go, only reason hes breaking those is because hes a 3 yr starter. We was WAY more efficient with tyrod and he didnt turn the ball over as much as logan

I have learned from this article Bitter is no judge of talent because Kyle Fuller wasn't even discussed. Kyle's stock is way up. Scouts really didn't know what he could do due to injuries last year. Healthy this year, he has played outstanding. I would expect him to be the first or second CB taken in the draft. Compare that to LT probably not even being drafted at all. Bitter doesn't get it with LT. There is outstanding talent on VT's team and the initials aren't LT.
Bitter mentioned today Miller could be a potential draft chose. LOL. He doesn't see talent, at all. But he does a good job reporting on the team. I will give him that.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Kyle's too light to be a linebacker and not quite fast enough to be a CB. Could find a place somewhere as a safety, but he's never played there before. Kyle is a spectacular player in college, and perfect for Foster's system, but probably doesn't project really well to any position in the league.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
You really don't think Kyle will get drafted in the first half of the draft as a corner? I think he will. He's a great corner with great man to man abilities. Whatever he lacks, he makes up with instincts. If speed really is his problem then I think he can be a good slot corner (I never really noticed a lack of speed myself but maybe that's why he's such a liability on the double move?) This is honestly the first time I've ever heard/read something like this about him.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
First half of the draft? Maybe. But he isn't a first-day guy when you look at all the other corners out there. And what is it now, 2nd and 3rd rounds on the second day? I could see him being taken on the second day, but I'd think third round would be all I'd wager on. Even if he went at the top of the fourth, that would put him in the top 100, which I wouldn't disagree with.
I'd just say that he is going to be better in his role in our defense than he would likely be viewed to be at the pro level.

As far as why he wasn't discussed, Bitter mentioned in the comments that the conference call wasn't very long.
Another VT writer got the first question in about Logan. I was next, asked about Exum and if there was anyone else worth monitoring. McShay only mentioned Gayle
So it's not necessarily a perceived lack of talent keeping him out of the discussion.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't think it was a matter of choosing based on talent. I suspect he chose to ask about Exum, Gayle, and Thomas because (1) those were the guys generating draft buzz last year and (2) they chose to come back for their senior seasons.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I don't understand why you're trashing Bitter for this article. He was interviewing McShay who said everything that was said about LT's draft potential. Don't shoot the messenger. Bitter was probably (and I could be wrong here but I think it's a fair assumption) just asking the questions that his readers posed to him. He's probably had a lot of his readers ask him where he thinks LT will go in the draft and if Exum's late return from his injury will affect his draft stock. So he went into this interview with the goal of asking those questions for his constituents. I don't think it's fair to blast Bitter for interviewing McShay. I didn't see anywhere in this article where Bitter put his opinion down regarding who was going to be drafted and when. He's just relaying information that was probably asked for by other people.

Kyle is faster than Exum, and will be drafted before Exum.....my point is he had the opportunity to discuss talent and missed out on discussing the top VT prospect for this draft. Sounds like our own fans under appreciate his talent.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I disagree. I think the only way that happens is if Exum's knee doesn't prove to be healed and he struggles at the combine. Exum has great physical coverage skills that you need in the NFL and has a bigger body. Don't get me wrong. Kyle is fantastic, but Exum has a higher pro potential. I only hope that both of them get drafted, but I think it's feasible that we see at least 4 Hokies on defense drafted this year.

Sounds like Todd McShay disagrees with you. If Kyle isn't even on the radar for the draft right now, I doubt that he'll end up being the "top VT prospect for this draft." I think he'll end up in the league, but may not be drafted initially. The guy is crazy talented, but size matters in the NFL (see Horse's point above).
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
it doesn't sound like he had the opportunity you speak of. He was limited to one question. He's probably catering more to his readers' questions and not being self centered like you're suggesting he should be. I'm sure the biggest questions he gets are "Will LT be drafted and where?" and "How has the injury and time off affected Exum's draft stock?"
he has an obligation to answer those questions first, regardless of who he thinks is the most talented player on the team. It's not Andy's fault that readers are less interested in Kyle. You have NO idea what Andy Bitter thinks because HE NEVER ONCE SAID WHAT HE THOUGHT. He's just putting out the info he can glean from the "analysts"
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
As a reporter he can direct the conversation into any direction he wants. When discussing NFL top prospects from this team, Kyle should be the first player mentioned, not completely excluded.....C'Mon Man!
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
again, you think Kyle is the most talented and that is your opinion. But until you show me credentials I won't respect your opinion since it doesn't align with those of the draft analysts. If you read above you'll see that Andy DID in fact ask McShay, who is a professional at this, who else besides Exum. Clearly, since McShay didn't even mention Kyle, his draft stock is not as high as you think it should be.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
If I'm not mistaken, this was not a one on one interview. McShay was fielding questions from several people. So Bitter got to 2 questions regarding the highest rated prospects from last year. That was how LT is looking in the draft and how Exum will do with a follow-up of who else catches his eye. I'm sure if Bitter could, he would have asked about every defensive senior, but he didn't so just calm yourself down.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
no you're completely missing it...first of all, it's YOUR opinion that Kyle is the best NFL prospect on this team..and I don't think you're qualified to make that decision. You're more than welcome to your own opinion. And you're welcome to disagree with other peoples' opinions. But this ISN'T Andy's opinion. He's just giving us the info he was able to get. He had limited time and it sounds like he was only able to ask one question. He tried to get a broad answer by asking who else would be considered and that was McShay's opportunity to mention Kyle, if in fact he's the best prospect as you think. Get off your high horse and don't trash AB for doing his job.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
He interviewed someone who keeps tabs on draft stock. Some scouts still have LT as a 1st or 2nd rounder, so I don't know that his stock is "way down". The article wasn't about Andy ranking VT's draft prospects, just what Todd McShay thought about a few of them. And like others have mentioned, it's not hard to see why Logan, Antone, and James were mentioned: quarterback, return from injury, and pass rush/first target that came to McShay's mind.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
CBS sports and draftscout maintain active player rankings that are up to date. CBS has Kyle ranked as the 5th corner and 51st player overall. Draftscout has Kyle ranked as the 2nd corner and a 2nd round draft choice.
Player rankings change. Kyle has had a fantastic year and his stock has gone way up. I say we all appreciate that!
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think everyone does appreciate Kyle; he's one of my favorite players. Just be careful what argument you're trying to have. It's one thing to start a discussion about how CBS is predicting Kyle to be highly drafted but ESPN is not. That's a debate worth having. Accusing Andy of bad/incomplete reporting or sucking at analyzing talent is totally misplaced.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
No one here is bashing Kyle. If his stock is up, great for him, he's having a good year and deserves it. But it's not Bitter's job to hype draft prospects, just to report on interesting ones. And the impact of Exum's return from injury is more of an unknown than Kyle's play obviously improving his draft stock.

NFL starter? Probably not. But he is very well suited for a team that is looking to develop him further.
Any chance a team picks him up to develop him as a TE as he was originally slated to be? Is it too late at this point? How long would it take to get him up to speed? I mean, look at Kalvin Cline, that dude picked up the position in one season. Granted he is playing college and not NFL, but still......
Julius Thomas played d1aa football for 1 year before being drafted his senior year. Not saying that's what Logan Thomas should do, but its been done
There's a football team up in NE that's hurting for TE right now. I can totally see coach Bellichik trying to convert him to a TE.
LT as a patriot? The conflicting feelings...
If Mike Glennon can start in the league, there is hope for Logan.
Logan Thomas reminds me of Jason Campbell. Great arm. Always seems calm. Can't make progression reads.
Well he's only been doing progressions for 8 games now....
I always felt kind of bad for him. It's tough to succeed when you're learning a brand new playbook every single year.
And Auburn was an undefeated SEC school and still didn't get to go to the NCAA Championship Game.
That's because the SEC wasn't viewed as the be-all-to-end-all in CFB back in 2004. That was reserved for USC.
What about Kyle Fuller? Seems like he should be drafter. And JR Collins?
Fuller could be a first rounder.
I could see a lot of the defensive seniors being in the 5-7 range. Teams should take a chance on guys like Gayle, Tyler, Edwards, Collins and Fuller. I think we will have a lot more than normal go to those senior bowl games just to showcase what they can do.
I'm thinking the third round to a good team that wants to take a chance. A team like Denver or Green Bay..
Baltimore has proven they have the cajoles to take chances on players a little out of the norm.
Tyrod and LT3 competing for the Joe Flacco backup job? Interesting...
Nothing would make me happier than seeing James Gayle drafted by Pittsburgh, and become the new cornerstone of their defense.
Worilds isn't even a regular starter in Pittsburgh...
Gayle is miles better than Worilds is
As much as I dislike the Steelers, I would love to see Logan go there, learn under Big Ben for a few seasons, play some games in case of injury to show off (you know it will happen) then go to another team to start

That was how LT is looking in the draft and how Exum will do with a follow-up of who else catches his eye. I'm sure if Bitter could, he would have asked about every defensive senior, but he didn't so just calm yourself down.
Bitter didn't take advantage of the opportunity to give Kyle much deserved mention.
Again, my point is Kyle's stock is way up. LT's stock is way down. All due to performance on the field. Recognize that!
no you're completely missing it...first of all, it's YOUR opinion that Kyle is the best NFL prospect on this team..and I don't think you're qualified to make that decision.
We get it. You like Kyle. We all do.
You can ask AB directly why he didn't specifically mention Kyle. No need to start three threads here saying the same thing.
